Welcome... As the crisp fall air settles in, again the blue and white take over at the Hebel household where Penn State Football continues to rule! From left: Tom, Ryan, Barb and Greg Hebel

and yes, from Joe Paterno. Penn State has always been a beacon of how to do things the right way. Of putting academics and building quality young men and women ahead of fame and wins.”

I arrived at Holmes Hall in North Halls of the Pennsylvania State University in September 1973. It was a bit intimidating I must admit, but Penn State felt like home from the very first day. Thankfully, North Halls was the smallest dorm complex on campus with only four residence halls including special interest floors of arts students and athletes. By chance, I ended up with the athletes and not the artists. From my third floor dorm room I watched Joe Paterno walking from his home a few blocks off campus to his office in Rec Hall. Some of my best friends were football players who would go on to professional careers and others who would continue to be great friends to this day. We actually weren’t all that good during my four years at Penn State, but we were proud of Joe Paterno and our “success with honor” athletic programs. But even more, we were all proud to be Penn Staters. My world was shattered last October when the Sandusky scandal hit. While I never met Joe Paterno or Jerry Sandusky, some of my closest friends were theirs. These men had always been held in the highest regard by everyone I knew and I was proud to have their signatures on the Nittany Lion picture above my desk. How was I to reconcile the terrible actions of Sandusky and the accusations of Paterno’s silence after a lifetime of admiration? Truth is, I simply couldn’t and never will. Patterson Weaver, a lawyer who graduated from Penn State in 2001 recently posted a statement that resonates with me and many Penn Staters: “The allegations do not gel with what each of us learned from our university,

“I cannot reconcile these allegations with the culture that helped mold who I am. The culture that helped teach me that success is only sweet when done right. That a loss with integrity is better than a win without it. That who we are as men and women is more important than fleeting glory. I cannot reconcile what people are saying of my school with the school I lived and experienced. But then, that’s how I know that Penn State is what we all know it to be. The apparent actions of a few individuals were tragically void of ethical wisdom or compass. But they are not Penn State. I am Penn State. We are Penn State. All of us. The hundreds of thousands that have become better people because of our school and the unique community it fosters.” “I find it sadly amusing the NCAA handed down unprecedented sanctions in an attempt to change the culture at Penn State. Clearly they know nothing about the culture at Penn State. The actions of a few do not define us. The knee-jerk reactions of others will not end us. Our school taught us more than organic chemistry and music theory. It taught us to persevere. To overcome. To succeed–with honor. That is who WE are. That is what WE are.”

“On September 1, Penn State will play its first game of the season against Ohio University. I wish I could be there. I wish I could hear what the world will hear. The earth-shattering cries of more than a 100,000 people, echoing from Erie to Scranton, from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, of WE ARE PENN STATE. The cheer will not be merely for football. It will be for all of us. It will be a declaration that we are more than this tragedy. That we will not go quietly into the night in despair and shame. That we will improve, overcome, persevere, and excel–with honor.”

I first stepped foot on the Penn State campus when I was a high school sophomore on a career day visit. On my way to the engineering labs to learn about mechanical engineering, I happen to walk through the landscape architecture studio. It was over before it began. I knew from that day where I wanted to go, what I wanted to study and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

Now is the time... to prepare your furniture, landscaping and water features for the cold winter winds ahead. Before you get wrapped up with the upcoming holidays, take a look at our handy To-Do List. We have you covered when it comes to making sure your outdoor living spaces are ready for hibernation. Start today!

We offer a wide variety of covers that fit most sets. 9 Wash and dry umbrellas. Place them back in their original box or in a umbrella storage bag for storage. 9 Store all clean cushions and umbrellas indoors. This will prevent Touch up any nicks or scratches. If needed, replace the feet on the bottom of chairs and tables to protect your deck or patio.

rodents from creating cozy homes.

Lawn & Landscape: 9

Continue to perform lawn renovations before the ground freezes: Aerating, dethatching, lime fertilization and overseeding.

Before shutting off the pump for winter, add MicrobeLift Autumn/ Winter Prep bacteria to the pond.

9 Remove as much debris and leaves as possible. 9 Remove tropical plants, while trimming back hardy aquatic plants.

Leave any hollow stemmed plants (Horsetail, Rushes, Etc.) intact. They may rot if cut short.

9 Remove 25% of the old water and replace with fresh water. 9 Shut off pump and remove any external filtrations (bio-filters, UV lights, etc). 9 Add pond heater/de-icer or aerator to keep a hole open in the ice. Remove the netting after all of the leaves haven fallen, but before the ground freezes.

Fountain Closure: 9

Unplug and disconnect the pump. Clean the pump of any debris.

9 Store the pump in a bucket of water and keep it in a warm indoor place. This will keep the gaskets from drying out. 9 Drain the water from the fountain before the first freeze. 9 Scrub the fountain to remove any algae or remaining debris. 9 Fill each basin with burlap sacks or absorbent materials to keep condensation from building and freezing. 9 Cover or disassemble the fountain for storage. Fountain covers are available at Bucks Country Gardens.

As an integral member of the Bucks Country Gardens team, Greg Orme is the man behind the Lifestyle Department’s transformation each season–the transformation from beautiful garden center to extraordinary Christmas gift shop to exquisite spring vignettes. Greg’s creativity and passion is evident in every display he creates. He helps to design floor plans and merchandise displays. Greg also travels to Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta each year to find outdoor furniture and accessories, Halloween and Christmas décor and Boutique jewelry to enhance the product selections at Bucks Country Gardens. Greg is a busy man. On any given day, you can catch Greg engaging with customers, entering data into the computer or merchandising product. Born and raised in Abington, Greg grew up with his older brother, Mike, and his mother and father. He moved around throughout his college years, and eventually moved to Melrose Park. Greg’s Certificate of Interior Design helped him land a coveted position with Warner Brother Studios. Switching gears, he worked for a retail art store in Newtown for a couple of years before becoming the Assistant Lifestyles Manager at Bucks Country Gardens.

8

Bucks Country Gardens

You can certainly say Greg has a passion for art. He said, “I want to sit down and pick Pablo Picasso’s brain to get an understanding of what it was like to make the transition into contemporary art.” Greg painted the poinsettia flower which is displayed on the front of the Garden Center during Christmas. Second to his love for art, is his passion for music. Any music really. 80’s Punk Alternative could be his favorite, but he’ll listen to Jazz, Classical, and Country, even a bit of Pop. Greg is eclectic in every aspect of his life. Although he isn’t fond of change himself, he wouldn’t mind going back to the Renaissance era or the 1920’s. He loves Halloween for the sake of dressing up and Christmas for its magical theme. His dream car is a Camaro; it’s just something about that muscle car appearance. Greg’s newfound passion is the beach, any beach, anywhere. He enjoys reading and loves history. He has an hour commute to work, but the customers and employees keep him coming back day after day. Greg is passionate about his work and his hobbies. He will surprise you with his varied interests. Come meet Greg Orme and learn some more. Ryan Hebel, Marketing Team

Recipe for Success

Our

We guarantee it! Extend the warranty on your trees & shrubs by following the BCG Recipe for Success.

Feathered Friends Winter is generally a time of hibernation for outdoor wildlife. However, it doesn’t have to be for our feathered friends. It’s easy to keep birds around, as long as you provide the key things they need.

10

Bucks Country Gardens

Birds need you to provide sustenance more in the winter than any other season. With worms and bugs out of sight and hardly any berries or nuts, they are constantly searching for food. To attract several varieties of birds to your backyard, Lyric Supreme is the food to get. Lyric Supreme offers the very best gourmet ingredients plus an assortment of preferred bird seeds and tree nut pieces. Bucks Country Gardens has a variety of Lyric products that also attracts specific bird varieties. We even have festive seed cakes in the shape of pinecones, wreaths and Christmas cottages. Birds also need shelter and a place to eat. We carry gorgeous Mountain View feeders that will stand out in the sea of white and green in your backyard. Mountain View Feeders are unique in that they offer the natural beauty of redwood set in completely original designs, producing pieces that are natural yet finished, elegant yet functional. The redwood, which is naturally resistant to decay, is contoured and embossed with a unique pattern to enhance your garden. They also make great gifts for any bird lover in your family.

The easiest way to bring birds to your yard in the winter is to provide them with water. It is so important to have a non-frozen water supply for your birds so they can stay hydrated and bathe. We recommend having a bird bath heater to keep the water from freezing. They are easy to install and inexpensive. If birds have a reliable source of water, they will continue to return to your yard year after year. Birds are wonderful to have around in the winter months when everyone else is hibernating. If you care for and provide food and water for them through the harsh weather, they will return in the spring and hopefully raise their families in your backyard bird oasis. Bucks Country Gardens

important times to fertilize your lawn, as it

makes it simple to fertilize just about anything. Select the right ‘tone’ for your tree, shrub, perennial or annual to have great growth, budding and blooming. Holly-tone takes care of all your evergreens and more. It is an allnatural, long lasting, organic choice for acid loving plants. Use it on established plants or new plantings. Unsure what qualifies for Holly-tone? Check the label on the side of the package! Use Tree-tone for any deciduous tree. The organic elements in Tree-tone break down gradually to provide a safe, long lasting food reservoir throughout the growing season. If you have planted spring blooming bulbs, it’s a great idea to use Bulb-tone. It promotes bigger blooms and healthier roots. It is a premium plant food formulated specifically for bulbs and tubers. Ask one of our experts to help you choose the right Espoma Organic fertilizer for you.

Microbe-Lift® Autumn/Winter Prep

Ponds are often over looked when it comes to fall clean up and preparation. Ecological Laboratories has made it simple to prepare ponds for the fast approaching winter months. Use Microbe-Lift® Autumn/ Winter Prep (AWP) to stabilize the water’s biological activity even in water temperatures of 40º F. It reduces buildup of dead leaves and organic sediment all winter long, making it a healthier environment in the spring. AWP will help fish too. It helps to maintain a healthy immune system for the fish during the winter months. If there are left overs after treatment this year, don’t throw it out, as AWP has a two-year shelf life. Healthy Eating Tips

to get you through the holidays

and family, but we don’t want to lose the progress we’ve made. Here are three simple tips to help you get through the holidays:

1.

14

Bucks Country Gardens

The fall season is always bittersweet: the warm weather and vacations are fading into memories, but the crisp, cool air and thought of the holiday season help keep us smiling. We have about eight weeks to get back to the gym, get into our routine, and feel good about shedding those few “BBQ” pounds until…BAM!–the holidays are upon us. We all want to have a good time and enjoy ourselves through the holidays as we gather with friends

Be accountable! Many times when we go to a party, we graze. We try one hors d’oeuvres and are already on to the next tray of interesting finger foods before we have finished chewing our first choice. You know those small plates they have sitting next to the hors d’oeuvres? Use one! This way you can control how much you are eating.

2.

First thing’s first! If you find yourself at a holiday dinner with plenty of sides, don’t panic. Start with your protein and veggies, and if you are still honestly hungry then move onto the sides. Sure you can sample a little of each, but don’t go eating a huge helping of stuffing before you’ve had any turkey!

3.

Water is your friend! It’s a party– you’re going to have a drink and that’s OK. But, be smart! If you know you will be drinking that night make sure you have at least 64oz of water throughout the day. If you can, have water with your hors d’oeuvres and save the wine for dinner. Or try alternating a glass of water, then a glass of wine. At the very least, have the glass of water sitting in front of you at the dinner table so you are more tempted to drink it as well. Happy healthy eating & holiday season! Kristin Baldino

Early November is the perfect time to give your lawn a final cut. Cut grass fairly short to prevent matting from the weight of winter snow. By late November, fertilize your lawn for the final time this season. Be sure to use a high nitrogen lawn fertilizer such as Scotts Super Turf Builder.

Lawn & Garden Tips & To-Do’s Continue to plant Tulip & Daffodil bulbs up until the ground freezes. Plant indoor Amaryllis and Paperwhites for January blooming. Trim Evergreens and freshen up outdoor holiday containers. Continue to water evergreens into the winter–until the ground freezes and the water just runs off. Evergreens transpire large amounts of water through their foliage all winter, especially on sunny and windy days. This water must be replaced or the plants can develop winter burn damage. Apply Wilt Stop, a winter protectant for plants and shrubs, monthly through February. Apply an animal deterrent, such as Deer Scram or Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent, monthly through February.

Remember, when decorating your tree or using candlesticks on a mantle, work in odd numbers for a more effective look. Update your dining room table with a new holiday-themed table runner. This is the perfect time to bring out your favorite tableware and display them. Fill a clear glass apothecary jar with brightly colored glass balls to complete the look. Pick up a new serving dish from Beatriz Ball. You can bake, chill and serve all from one platter. Wrap a few gifts with beautiful wrap from Caspari to put under the tree to have on hand for unexpected guests or carolers. Candles are the number one gift and Bucks Country Gardens carries candles from Aspen Bay, Greenleaf, Thymes and of course Yankee Candle! Lastly, remember to enjoy the holiday season with your friends and family. This is when traditions start and where memories are made.

An eye-catching statement piece, Amaryllis plants are perfect as a show stopping gift. Their showy trumpet shaped flowers come in an array of seasonal colors such as red, pink, white, and multi-color. They are full of holiday cheer and fit into a variety of decorative schemes from modern to traditional. Purchase as a potted plant or as a bulb, and watch your centerpiece grow.

Paperwhites

Paperwhites are great for gift giving or creating decorative containers throughout your home. They are one of the easiest bulbs to force inside the house. Producing small white fragrant flowers which resemble daffodils, bulbs can be planted in soil or stone to create a festive planter for the season. Create a merry arrangement by wrapping a pretty red ribbon around the stems or decorate with white birch branches to brace tall flower stems.

Orchids

Orchids are an easy choice for the holiday with their long bloom time and relatively easy care. Elegant and stylish on their own or as a focal point in a centerpiece, they make an excellent hostess gift for everyone on your list.

Norfolk Island Pine Norfolk Island Pines are excellent for adding some greenery to your home. Their appearance is similar to a pine tree, and is perfect for creating a small holiday tree year after year. Layers of branches are ideal for decorating; miniature lights and ornaments add a festive touch to the tree. The Norfolk Island Pine makes a great gift for people living in apartments or who have limited space.

Custom-made English Garden Gift Baskets Whether you are looking for a gift to a last minute holiday party or a stunning centerpiece for the table, custom English Garden gift baskets have a unique mix of flowering and foliage plants, and no shortage of holiday cheer. Baskets range from small gift sizes to large statement pieces, and everything in between. They make great teacher and hostess gifts and are ideal for the gardener on your list. Our lead designer, Tina Sottolano, and our greenhouse staff personally make each basket and would be happy to assist you in picking out the perfect one or customizing your own.

Terrariums

Becky Jones, Green Team

The holiday season is almost unimaginable without poinsettias scattered around the house. Poinsettias were named after Joel Robert Poinsett, the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, in 1825. He discovered the plants in the wilds of southern Mexico. Poinsett, an avid amateur botanist, sent samples of the plant home to the States and by 1836 the plant was widely known as the “poinsettia.” Since then, this plant has become a winter staple for many during the Christmas Season. Did you know? You don’t have to recycle your poinsettia with your Christmas tree when the holidays are over. If you care for them properly, they will last until next year. Carefully examine the plant before purchasing it, selecting plants that have dark green foliage and leaves that are not wilted. The plant should be full, balanced and attractive from all sides. Also, insulate the plant with a plastic sleeve before leaving the store if it is cold outside. Poinsettias like plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. Keep them near the sunniest window in your house. However, poinsettias are sensitive to extreme temperatures, so don’t place them directly in the sun, next to a heater or near a drafty window. Keep the soil slightly dry as often as possible. Let the soil dry out between watering and then water thoroughly with a watering can. Also be sure not to let the plant’s pot stand in water at the plant’s base. If you follow these easy steps, your plant can keep growing from year to year. For more poinsettia plant care advice, ask our experts in our Greenhouse or visit buckscountrygardens.com!

of the Year!

The holiday season is all about family. We spend most of late November and early December cleaning the house, decorating and cooking for relatives visiting from near and far. We run through the malls at the last minute to find the perfect gift for our loved ones. But have you ever stopped to think that maybe the perfect gift is something that can be passed on for generations to come?

Christmas Heirlooms can be anything you hold near and dear to your heart. It can be an angel your grandmother used to put on her tree every year or that homemade ornament your child made in kindergarten. Whatever it is, it has special meaning to you and you are probably planning on passing it down to someone in your family. At Bucks Country Gardens, we have plenty of wonderful treasures your family will love.

Karen Didion Santas Santas are one of the most popular heirlooms all over the world. They come in thousands of styles and sizes so it’s easy to find one that your family will love. We carry Karen Didion Santas, which are best known for their exquisite attention to detail. With soft Santa eyes and plush faux furs, these are heirlooms the whole family will adore. Karen Didion Santas are as unique as your interests–whether you’re a wine lover or proud of your German heritage, there’s a Karen Didion Santa for you. We even have a shadow box Santa who recites the entire ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas story.

Byers’ Choice Carolers

Looking for an heirloom that is handmade right here in Bucks County? Byers’ Choice Carolers are handcrafted in Chalfont by over 80 artisans and are available in a variety of styles. Joyce Byers, the founder, always loved singing Christmas carols. She first dreamed up the idea of these unique carolers in the late 1960’s because she was tired of seeing the same decorations in every store. Joyce designed these carolers as gifts for friends and family by using simple things from around the house. They soon became a sensation and still are today. Through the combination of loving care from each artisan, Byers’ Choice now has a hundred unique, handcrafted Carolers that capture the warmth and spirit of Christmas. These figures are divided among 3,000 retail stores, all of which have entirely different selections. So, when you find the Caroler that reminds you of your niece’s first Christmas, don’t expect to find that same Caroler anywhere else!

Bucks County Ornaments

At Bucks Country Gardens, we have ornaments made exclusively for us and Bucks County. Our Bucks County ornaments, hand painted in Uzbekistan, are personally selected for our store by our talented Christmas buyers, Donna Dentner and Greg Orme. These ornaments feature classic Christmas designs, like cardinals and snowy landscapes. Every year, we select a new design so you can build a collection at home. Our Bucks County ornaments also make great gifts for relatives visiting from out of town.

Tree Toppers

Bucks Country Gardens

Every tree has a tree topper, with the most common being the angel. The angel on top of the tree is about love, family and tradition. We have a large assortment of gorgeous angels for your home. Your angel will be there for the memories and you can pass her along to future generations to keep the tradition going. Every family has Christmas heirlooms. Whether it’s a special sentimental ornament or the china that you use for Christmas dinner, it still holds a special meaning in your family’s heart. If you’re looking for a new Christmas heirloom to give or to receive, be sure to stop by Bucks Country Gardens this holiday season and choose something that you and your family can enjoy for generations to come. Containers aren’t just for the spring and summer seasons. You can still create sensational centerpieces and outdoor containers for the cold winter months. We interviewed Bucks Country Gardens’ Container Gardening Guru, Tina Sottolano Cain, and Custom Arrangement Artist, Zarrus Wind, to find out just how easy it is to create one-of-a-kind containers at home.

Tina SottolanoCain Outdoor Container Gardening Guru

BCG: You work so much with outdoor containers. For the holidays, which ones do you find to be the most popular? TSC: The most popular containers tend to be the ones full of fresh cut greens, berries and lots of pinecones. They are traditional and perfect for any home. BCG: Is there a recipe for creating these at home? TSC: Absolutely! I’ve found you need equal parts Red, White and Green for an outdoor holiday container. Red being the berries, white is the birch branches or frosted pinecones and green is obviously the fresh cut greens. Choose the fullness you desire for each pot but always start with a tall central branch and work out from there. BCG:Any special tips or tricks? TSC: Walk around your own property and cut fresh greens from there. If you have junipers or arborvitaes, those are excellent to use. Don’t be afraid to mix colors and textures. BCG: What greens do you find to be the most fragrant? TSC: I recommend the Fraser Fir or the Incense Cedar. The Concolor Fir is excellent if you prefer citrus notes. BCG: What if try it and I don’t like the end result? TSC: Bring in your container and have a custom arrangement made. Just tell me your preferences and your color scheme and we can create something just for you!

Abby Dentner, Customer Service Manager

Zarrus Wind

Custom Arrangement Artist

BCG: What are some of the most popular silk flowers for the holiday season? ZW: Amaryllis, hydrangea, magnolias and of course poinsettia and ivy. BCG: How can I change up my floral arrangement from year to year? ZW: I like to add unusual things you wouldn’t expect in a floral arrangement. Add birds, ornaments, funky snowflakes or frosted branches to add a pop of excitement to your regular silks. BCG: How do I keep my silk flowers from flopping over in the vase? ZW: I recommend the Sahara floral foam. Simply place it in the bottom of the container and use a butter knife to shape it. The foam will secure your silks and they will hold their form better. BCG: Can I use silks outdoors in my containers? ZW: We do carry a variety of weatherproof silks that you can incorporate into your outdoor containers. We also have a large selection of outdoor ornaments you can use to accent your arrangements. BCG: I would like to create my own custom floral arrangement, but I think I need some help. ZW: You can always stop in for assistance with a custom arrangement. We also have workshops where one of our designers will help guide you through the process. You leave not only with an awesome custom arrangement, but an abundance of knowledge. buckscountrygardens.com 25

O Christmas Tree...

A Christmas tree is the core of the holiday season. It holds your most treasured ornaments and provides shelter for the gifts you give to your loved ones. It’s important to choose the perfect tree for all of these responsibilities. This year, we have the best tree selection we’ve ever had, so you have plenty of options to choose from. You’ll find a spectacular variety of trees in different sizes, textures and colors. Step into Count Von Hebel’s tree grove and explore our newest additions and some of our most popular favorites. Our tree grove features the new Charleston Pine, a tree full of lush, layered branches. With it’s slimmer profile and various sizes, the Charleston Pine is sure to be a favorite this year. Also new to the grove is our Slim Deluxe Layered Austin tree. The Austin has a natural green color with plenty of room for ornaments. The boughs were made to be stronger than other trees to hold larger ornaments. This tree is perfect for ornament collectors. Of course, we brought back some of our most popular trees from last year. The Dartmore Pine was our number one seller last year for obvious reasons–it’s the most realistic tree in the grove because of its full classic full profile and natural light green color. The Iced Layered Aspen was also popular last year. With flocked branches and pinecones throughout, the tree really looks like it has a light coating of ice on it.

We want to make sure your friends and family are wowed when they see your tree, so be sure to shop early for the best selection. We even offer White Glove Delivery and Set-up services (see page 25 for more info) for anyone who needs an extra hand with their tree. If you have any questions, our knowledgeable staff is always here to help.

It’s Beginning to Look

a lot Like Christmas

We believe in Santa’s

work ethic for the holiday season. The Christmas season at Bucks Country Gardens requires a lot of preparation and hard work. Believe it or not, we are just like Santa and his elves: we start planning for Christmas over a year in advance, traveling the country looking for everything from angels to Christmas trees to wreaths and everything in between. To prepare for the 2012 Christmas season, a team of elves headed out to Dallas, Texas for two intense days of planning and shopping in December of 2011. This was where our elves decided on themes for the following year and selected the foundations for them, such as wreaths, garlands and trees.

31

Our featured themed Tree for Christmas 2012 is the Red-on-Red tree, complete with berries, hydrangeas, magnolias and poinsettias in stunning shades of red.

buckscountrygardens.com

So what are the criteria for themed trees? Donna Dentner, our Christmas buyer explains, “When we look for a certain themed tree, we are looking for the tree to evoke three things: memories, current trends and a sense of tradition. If it has those three things, we know it can be a themed tree for our store.” more 1

What would Christmas be without Santa?

Berries, pinecones & greens are versatile picks to use in any arrangement.

Delicate glass balls sprinkled throughout your tree add touches of color.

DId you know that Cardinals are one of the most popular bird themes during the holiday?

Lush Hydrangeas are perfect for f i lling bare spots on a decorated tree.

Clusters of shiny red f i nials add dimension to a red-on-red themed tree.

Poinsettias are so classic! Add this stem to any arrangement or tree for bold color.

This centerpiece is perfect for a traditional home during the holiday season.

Donna also explained that when they are in the showrooms, they keep certain customers and styles in mind. “We know our customer base and what certain people look for with their holiday decoration. We also look at fashion trends in home décor and really try and find what works best for our customers and us,” she said. Next stop: Atlanta, Georgia! After the themes were decided, our elves headed to the Peach State in January 2012 to pick out the finishing touches for each theme. Every themed tree will have Santas, tree skirts and linens that coordinate with it. Ornaments, ribbons, florals and decorations will further enhance the tree’s appearance.

This year it’s all about red–our spotlight theme this year is our Red-on-Red tree. When our elves first spotted the decorated sample tree, it “screamed Christmas!” At a whopping fifteen feet tall, this tree is covered in red berries, magnolias, hydrangeas and poinsettias. Rich, red ribbon is intertwined throughout the branches and delicate glass finials fill the spaces inbetween. Our elves also picked out some fabulous accessories to go with the Red-on-Red theme. We have glass red pinecones and balls to add dimension to your tree and feathered birds to add texture. A standout favorite is our glass poinsettia garland that adds sparkle to any space in your home.

These f loral silks will be featured in our Vineyard section.

Beautiful tree skirts and matching runners complete the look.

White Magnolias are stunning when mixed into a dark green tree.

Platinum silks add an elegant pizzaz to any themed tree.

I bet you didn’t know the North Pole was located in Bucks County! It may not be the real North Pole but our elves work just as hard all year ‘round to make Christmas at Bucks Country Gardens extra special for all of our friends and family who walk through our front door.

Our Red-on-Red theme isn’t the only new collection this year. Our elves added a Vineyard theme full of sage green, purple and gold colors. We also have a Flocked section, which incorporate wintery blues and greens. For the more conservative decorators, we also have a Traditional Holly and Ivy section to choose from.

There’s a Tree in the Grand Hotel

&

One in the Park as Well...

Selecting a fresh-cut

Christmas tree is a longstanding holiday tradition for families all over the world: Bundle up the kids, jump in the car and start the hunt for the perfect tree. The Christmas tree is the center of all of your memories so choosing the right one is crucial. At Bucks Country Gardens, we make the process easy and fun. We pride ourselves in being a one-stop shop for all of your decorating needs. To best capture the aromatic delights of the essence of the season, start with the basics: a fresh-cut tree with coordinating greens and berries. Nothing is more nostalgic than the smell of just-cut greens.

We have plenty of small trees starting at 5’ and others that go all the way up to 14’. In fact, we are recognized for our fantastic selection of cathedral-size Christmas

We are not your average tree yard. With over 5,000 square feet of covered shopping space filled with freshly cut trees, shop comfortably in any weather condition. You can also roast marshmallows at our fire pit, visit with Mrs. Claus and, on November 17th from 1–3pm, take your picture with a live reindeer.

trees that range from 10’ –14’ which are perfect for large foyers, churches and office lobbies. Not sure which variety to get? Let’s break down our two most popular:

fraser fir

Fraser Firs have short, stiff needles that are deep green on the topside with a silver tint on the underside. Many feel this gives the tree an additional glow when you switch on the lights. This tree will stay fresh for the entire holiday season and the branches are firm and strong to hold large ornaments and delicate family heirlooms.

Fraser Fir

douglas fir

A Douglas fir is the perfect pick for a family that likes a big, full tree with an intoxicating fragrance. While most species of Firs have a neat, tapered shape, the Douglas starts out wide at the bottom and stays wide all the way up the tree. The needles are long and very soft to the touch. The sweet, citrusy aroma of a Douglas fir is as distinctive as it is enjoyable. Once your family finds the perfect tree, we will wrap it up, fresh cut the trunk, and load it onto your vehicle at no additional cost. We even have a White Glove Delivery and Set-up crew for those who need a little help.

If a tree cannot be immediately displayed in water, make a fresh cut on the base of the trunk, and stand it in a bucket of water in a cool, shaded location, either indoors or out.

fresh greens planters

Have an existing artificial tree but still want to mix fresh greens into your décor? Pick up a fresh greens planter for indoors or outdoors. With fresh cut berries and pinecones incorporated throughout, it makes a great centerpiece for your dining table or a focal point on a porch or patio. Are you a DIY-er? We have all of the items you need to create your own custom arrangement or centerpiece. Bundles of greens, fresh swags and roping, berries, pinecones and more are available to create your own fresh masterpiece. If you’re short on time but still want something unique, stop by and see one of our designers who can create something custom–just for you.

Douglas Fir

Fresh Green planters are fantastic for gift giving and they make a great alternative hostess gift. Instead of a bottle of wine, present a fragrant statement piece for their home. They will appreciate the gesture and will love the individuality of the container.

36

Bucks Country Gardens

It’s so easy to decorate with fresh-cut trees and greens! Their presence alone gives your home a forest fresh fragance and traditional feeling for the holiday season. Find your perfect Christmas tree with ease this year at Bucks Country Gardens, your one-stop shop for the holidays. Bucks Country Gardens

Keep your tree smelling great all season: clip off a small bit from the end of ten branches every day or two. By exposing the interior of the branches, the sweet freshcut tree fragrance is released!

Custom Design Center

it’s the details that count

Whether you are having a holiday dinner party, need a beautiful centerpiece for your table or want to decorate your mantle but don’t know where to begin, visit our Custom Design Center. The Lifestyle Team at Bucks Country Gardens will work with you to create something special for your individual home décor needs. –Use an heirloom vase or bowl for your centerpiece bringing a sentimental touch to your holiday décor.

O’ Holy Night

What began as a simple representation of the birth of Jesus centuries ago,

nativities have now become a much sought after and collectible art form. With designs so elaborate as to include every person and animal present on that first Christmas Day to the simplest of geometric shapes to represent Mary, Joseph and the newborn baby Jesus, Bucks Country Gardens has a fabulous selection of nativites from which to choose. As a part of Christmas tradition in many Christian homes, nativities are regarded as a special symbol signifying the meaning of Christmas and many families have handed down nativities from generation to generation. For 2012, the vast selection at Bucks Country Gardens ranges in size and style from ornaments to table top to lifesize outdoor, from modern to contempory to traditional. No matter what size or style, we have the perfect nativity for everyone.

44

Bucks Country Gardens

For a traditional, table top nativity with a bit of whimsy, this beautifully carved nativity, below, is made entirely of wood. Earth tone colors and intriciately scribed vine and star details on elegantly draped clothing create a warm and inviting place to tell the story of a baby’s birth. This will surely become a wonderful focal point in any room of your home. The Byers’ Choice Nativity is the perfect addition to your Byers’ Choice collection. Mary and Joseph are hand crafted in the signature style of the classic Byers’ Choice figurines, and are clad in rich, colorful fabric with expressions of awe and amazement. Baby Jesus is swaddled sweetly in his bed making this nativity complete.

For a larger option, there are several nativities for outdoor settings. A wonderful new nativity for Christmas 2012, this nativity has a look of natural stone without the added weight and includes Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus asleep in a manger. With Joseph standing almost three feet tall, this nativity will certainly be a focal point amongst your outdoor holiday dècor. To complete the look, light the lantern in Joseph’s hand! Whether you’re looking for a small nativity or a large one, each tells a very special story. Stop in today and discover which nativity tells the story of Christmas in your home.
