Welcome... Did anyone see that freight train that ran me over?

When March feels like April or even May, things get busy awfully fast in a garden center and landscape contracting company. This business is cyclical to be sure and we all want our properties looking great as soon as the weather breaks in the spring, but this year was a bit more extreme than usual and the numbers in the garden center proved it. I always describe the peaks and valleys of our business by comparing days to months... like Mother’s Day Saturday being bigger than all of January and February combined. That stark comparison came earlier this year when over 1000 of you showed up for Pansymonium on March 18th after only 24 of you were here on February 29th. Now that’s what I call a freight train!

We really enjoy the pace when we’re just a bit frantic. Gives us a sense of accomplishment to see all of you responding so enthusiastically to what we spend so much time during the slow
days preparing. We actually planned to be in “show time” mode by April 1st and we hope you forgave our “not quite ready” appearance in a few spots around the garden center in the middle of March. I promise you we’ll be as ready as ever by the time you’re reading this and our upgraded Flower Yard will be bursting with your favorite annuals, perennials and vegetables and herbs. This year we’ve introduced an expanded certified organic section of edibles, expanded our line of custom planters and hanging baskets, and are featuring weekly specials on the most popular annual and perennial flowers and gardening supplies. And just in case you’re wondering, the fish and aquatics department is still here: it just moved a little bit south. Hope to see lots of you in the garden center real soon. We’ll be ready. Big
Expectations two fabulous new Plant Introductions
Begonia BIG Series (above and right) and SunPatiens (far right) are robust new introductions that make bright colorful statements in pots, container gardens and landscapes. Two fantastic must-haves!
Are you looking for annuals that make a huge impact in your beds or containers? Look no further! These new varieties of Begonias and Impatiens will not leave you disappointed. Now available at Bucks Country Gardens.
Begonia BIG Series As the newest addition to the hybrid Begonia market, the Begonia x benariensis BIG Series is truly a force with which to be reckoned. BIG really says it all: BIG flowers, BIG habit and BIG show in the landscape. Plant the BIG Series in those hard to design spaces where the landscape bed spans an area comprised of full sun in one area and shade in another. Plants are often used en masse throughout these areas to promote continuity and overall aesthetic aspects of the design. While other plants have difficulty thriving in this type of situation, the BIG Series is so versatile that it will thrive in all landscape settings creating a burst of color.
SunPatiens SunPatiens is a revolutionary new hybrid Impatiens which represent a breakthrough in flower breeding: robust, sunloving, heat-loving Impatiens that thrive in full sun or part shade and deliver continuous color from spring through frost. Whether used in baskets, window boxes, patio pots or in the landscape, these beautiful plants combine massive flower power with tough, low maintenance plants that flourish almost anywhere. Advantages With their unique genetic makeup, these plants grow fast and are easy to maintain. They thrive in either full sun or shade and excel in hot and humid conditions. There is no need to remove old flowers–new growth covers faded blooms quickly from spring through hard frost. SunPatiens give outstanding color late in the season when other annuals are past their prime plus they are unaffected by diseases that can plague other Impatiens, such as downy mildew. Compact SunPatiens are perfect for beds, patio containers and hanging baskets. Bred for shorter internodes and excellent branching, the Compact Series has a dense, bushy growth habit. Compact SunPatiens are the perfect choice where a more controlled habit is desired.

Advantages The BIG Series truly sets itself apart from other popular landscape plants such as Petunias and Marigolds, which commonly have disease issues when water sits in the flowers. Intense breeding in the Begonia BIG Series offers a breakthrough in flower structure and habit to combat these issues. The BIG Series is sterile and does not set seed. As the flower ages, the petals begin to detach and fall away. The long flower stems that display the flower clusters allow the spent flowers to fall onto the ground rather than onto the foliage, thus reducing disease incidence.
Very few annuals are able to handle the range of climatic and geographic conditions under which the Begonia BIG Series thrives. From Texas to New York, and Detroit to San Diego, nothing outperforms the BIG Series.

edible gardening organic herbs & veggies from peace tree farm This spring, Bucks Country Gardens is proud to sell organically grown herbs and vegetables from Peace Tree Farm. Located in Kintnersville, in the countryside of Bucks County, Peace Tree Farm encompases an acre of greenhouses on a historic 25-acre farm. To provide the freshest plants to customers, our buyers place weekly orders based on current inventory levels and grower’s availability.
{ }
Our exclusive organic supplier, Peace Tree Farm, started as an environmentally conscious company in 1983, recycling and reusing pots and trays before recycling became a household practice. In November of 2008, Peace Tree received its Organic Certification from California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), one of the strictest state organic certifying organizations. Since then, Peace Tree Farm has been producing USDA Certified Organic herb and vegetable starter plants for greenhouse growers, farmers, and Community-Supported Agriculture groups (CSA) across North America, and potted organic herbs and vegetables for garden centers across the Tri-State area under its One Earth Edibles brand. Since 2008, Peace Tree has sold over 850,000 organic herb and vegetable plants.
Organic Herbs & Veggies available this season: Cucumber Oregano Pepper Parsley Tomato Rosemary Zucchini Sage Dill Thyme Basil
In preparation for organic certification, Peace Tree Farm began using beneficial insects as their primary means of pest and disease control in 2006. Beneficial insects are released on a daily basis at the greenhouse to attack pests such as aphids, white fly, and thrips. Since the end of herbicide and pesticide usage, Peace Tree growers and customers have visibly seen an increase in the quality and health of the plant material grown and have successfully kept pests and diseases at bay. In 2011, Peace Tree Farm made the One Earth Edibles brand mobile, adding Quick Response (QR) codes to the redesigned tags of each variety, allowing Smartphone users to learn more about a particular variety’s growing habit, harvest time, and culinary suggestions at the point of sale. In the first three months of the program, total visits to the Peace Tree Farm website increased by 46%, and total number of new visitors increased by 63%, as compared to the first three months of 2011. This spring, Peace Tree is looking to add content to the One Earth Edibles webpages. Stop by Bucks Country Gardens today and experience the organic difference for yourself!

Hydrangeas
Awesome Summer Color
The most popular summerflowering shrubs at Bucks Country Gardens are Hydrangeas. Their flowers are always large, sometimes immense, and come in various shades of pink, blue, green and white. Hydrangeas are relatively easy to grow and with the recent introduction of “Ever Blooming” varieties, they’re guaranteed performers.
12
Bucks Country Gardens
I like to classify Hydrangeas into five groups: Arborescens/Annabelle Macrophylla/Lacecap Quercifolia/Oakleaf Macrophylla/Mophead Paniculatta/PeeGee There are literally hundreds of varieties, but we’ve narrowed down our collection to a dozen of our favorites.

There are numerous web sites with great detailed information on Hydrangea care, culture and use. Hydrangeashydrangeas.com is a good one that details fertilization and pruning to keep your Hydrangeas blooming their best and blooming the color you prefer. For information on the newest introductions, best to research them by name and locate the hybridizer’s web site. Now, get planting and enjoy your favorite Hydrangeas this summer!
edible gardening Burpee Home Gardens® is changing the gardening game with the introduction of the Burpee BOOST high-antioxidant vegetable collection. Burpee BOOST is a collection of six nutrient-rich garden-ready vegetables– three tomatoes, one cucumber, one pepper and one salad mix–that provide higher levels of antioxidants than other home garden vegetable varieties. Available at Bucks Country Gardens, BOOST leverages the need for fresh foods with higher nutritional value and the desire to take more control of personal health and of how food is produced. Plus, BOOST varieties are not genetically modified (no GMOs).
Gold Standard Cucumber Produces up to five times the amount of beta-carotene of other garden cucumbers and differentiates itself with gold-toned flesh.
Healing Hands Salad Mix Produces up to 20% more lutein, 30% more beta-carotene, 30% more carotenoids and 70% more anthocyanins than other garden salad blends and can be harvested every three weeks for several salads throughout the growing season.

Bucks Country Gardens
Delivers 30% more vitamin C and 40% more lycopene than the average garden tomato. This indeterminant small-fruited variety is very prolific.
Power Pops Tomato Delivers 55% more lycopene and 40% more carotenoids than the average garden tomato. This indeterminant, prolific variety produces grape-size fruit that is lifted above the leaves. Burpee Home Gardens®
Solar Power Tomato Provides three times the level of beta-carotene than the average garden tomato and produces orange-fleshed, baseball-size fruits.
Sweet Heat Pepper Produces up to 65% more vitamin C than the average garden pepper. The upright, compact plant produces fruit with a Scoville heat rating of approximately 300, compared with a jalapeño at 2,500 to 5,000.
Solar Energy
Our solar electric field is working overtime... but I can’t get it to work nights. The solar energy system at Bucks Country Gardens is operating at 117% of projections and has produced almost 150,000 kWh of electricity in the last 10 months. We are producing more than 50% of our annual electric needs for the Garden Center, Warehouse, Barn, Office and Farmhouse. That’s enough electricity to power 16 houses and saves more than 375,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions annually. In terms of carbon dioxide reduction, the system is the equivalent of planting 459,000 trees per year!

On sunny days, we produce more electricity than we use and send excess power to the grid and into our neighbors’ homes. Even in December, the least efficient month for solar production, we out-produced our needs on numerous days. In October, when we use the least electricity, the excess we sent to the grid was 250kWh, enough to supply a typical residence for the entire month. We are continuing our green initiatives at Bucks Country Gardens as we transition all of our Garden Center lighting to LED over the next year. We expect overall reduced electric usage to result and our production percentage to rise to as much as 65% of our total use.

In Your Own Backyard
Bucks Country Gardens Landscape feature

Bucks Country Gardens
Home Sweet Home The homeowners’ of this Doylestown home wanted to accomplish three main goals. Bucks Country Gardens developed a comprehensive design that achieved all of the objectives, addressing the homeowners’ desire to create inviting spaces in the front entrance to the home, the side entrance to the backyard and within the backyard itself.
Top: New and existing plantings along with a curved bluestone walkway create an inviting entrance into the home. Left: The backyard is transformed into several different spaces centered around lounging, entertaining and dining.
F irst Goal
Reuse the existing plants, creating an inviting pathway to the front of the house. The Hinoki Cypress, Japanese Laceleaf Maple, Montgomery Blue Spruce and several other plants were transplanted to new locations throughout the entrance gardens. The welcoming front walk was designed to flow between the plants harmoniously.
Second Goal
Create a courtyard feel to the entrance of the home. A small area was added to the walkway near the front door to accommodate a small gathering area. A sense of enclosure for this space is provided with a custom spindle fence. Low voltage lighting was used to offer safety and security when approaching the home at night.
Third Goal
17
Gregory Hebel, Landscape Design/Sales
Bucks Country Gardens
Design a warm and inviting space in the backyard with areas for relaxing, dining and entertaining guests. The welcoming entrance to the backyard begins with a Clematis covered arbor and concrete paver walkway that winds its way to the entertaining area. Easy access to and from the space through a sliding glass door from the eat-in kitchen was enhanced with a wrap around EP Henry staircase with custom wood railings. Upon entering the space, you are greeted with a warming fire pit capped in thermal bluestone with ample seating to gather around on those chilly nights. Coming further into the outdoor “room you will find a raised patio area intended for sun bathing and relaxing. Privacy fencing was used to create a feeling of seclusion from nearby homes. The entire outdoor living space is surrounded with lush plantings that provide interest throughout the year. Low voltage lighting sets the mood perfectly as the sun goes down and invites you to use the space long into the night.
Gardening and Fitness
Tips from a Local Gardener and Certified Personal Trainer
Gardening is more than just a hobby for many Bucks County residents; it is a wonderful way to exercise and to get fresh air while absorbing the sun’s great source of Vitamin D. It is also a powerful way to unwind and meditate. Whether you’re building a box garden, maintaining your yard or cultivating the land as a member of a co-op, there are many functional exercises that you can incorporate into your gardening routine that will assist you in staying fit, healthy, and assist with injury prevention.
The area of the body that is the most chronically stressed while gardening is the back. Almost every task incorporates the use of the upper/lower back and hip area–planting, digging, pruning and lifting. Therefore, I recommend that you protect your back by engaging your core–abdominals and midsection–during each task and movement.
18
Bucks Country Gardens
A “primary” movement that you can do to protect your back is anterior (front of the body) hip tilt. If you are pushing a wheel
barrow, be sure that your shoulders are back and your tailbone is tipped under or down. This engages your core and makes your abdominals do 50% of the work; thus assisting your back with the load.
Secondly, refrain from bending over to complete all of your tasks. Kneeling down with good posture will assist your back and help you with endurance while completing all of the tasks on your Saturday to-do list. Lastly, stretch throughout the day by bending over to stretch your hamstrings, this will assist in releasing low back pain and tightness. It is also beneficial to do rotational movements after a period of gardening. As for the shoulders, my favorite stretch is a reach into a “W” position. The benefits of this stretch include releasing tension in the shoulder area, upper back and neck. Stay fit and happy gardening! Shawn Marie Baker, The Cornerstone Clubs, Doylestown

Getting to Know
Don Lee
Don Lee has been an integral member of the Nursery Department at Bucks Country Gardens for almost a quarter of a century. Wow! In August 1988, Don came to Bucks Country Gardens after his working with a local rose grower. Passionate about his trade, he knew Bucks Country Gardens was the place he could expand his plant and nursery knowledge, working among the industry’s finest professionals. A typical day for Don is arriving early in the morning and assisting the Landscape crews load their trees and other plant material for their offsite jobs. He continues through the day, setting irrigation, managing the nursery crew and unloading delivery trucks. While keeping the nursery yard organized and refreshed, Don’s day is spent assisting customers in plant selection, answering questions and providing information about plants, shrubs and trees. With all of his experience, Don can name practically every plant native to our area.
Don in 1980 playing junior league ice hockey; a avid player until age 35.
When asked what he looks forward to most, he replied, “Helping customers select the right plant and making the customer happy.” He told me it’s the satisfaction of helping customers and the camaraderie while at work that brings him back each day. When asked to name his most fond memory at Bucks Country Gardens, he simply replied, “The day I realized I had worked here [Bucks Country Gardens]

for twenty years, that I had survived that long.” To commemorate his twentyyear tenure, Don and his wife enjoyed a Caribbean vacation, compliments of Bucks Country Gardens. Don also enjoys his downtime, spending time with his family and even doing a little gardening and housework here and there. Recently the Lee family adopted a dog, so a typical day off begins with a dog walk, often at nearby Lake Galena, and ends with his feet up and relaxing. Don loves the outdoors and is an avid freshwater fisherman. I asked him to tell me his favorite place to visit and without hesitation, he stated, “Maine”. He and his wife enjoy the vast landscape, outdoor beauty, and sight seeing. He told me, “it’s just so relaxing.”

I suppose I finally figured it out. Don Lee is one of the most passionate, hard working employees to walk through the doors of Bucks Country Gardens. He cares about his family, loves his days off but always enjoys coming back through those doors each week. Come visit Don in our Nursery Yard. Ryan Hebel, Marketing Team

Plants with Panache
Looking to add some style and flair to your garden this summer? Bucks Country Gardens has six new Garden Splendor® varieties that are sure to spice up your beds. These hot, new plants will make you the envy of all of your neighbors, we guarantee it!
kniphofia ‘papaya popsicle’ Garden Splendor® plants are worth remembering...They are grown to provide your garden with the best quality, color and value and are available at Bucks Country Gardens.
Kniphofia ‘Papaya Popsicle’
This compact red hot poker is a prolific blooming plant that bears loads of papaya colored flower spokes from early summer to late autumn. This exotic looking beauty packs a lot of tropical punch and keeps on coming with a never ceasing procession of brightly colored flowers and strong sturdy stems. A dependable grower, it begins to flower as early as June and continues flowering through autumn and perhaps even into the early winter. This Kniphofia is perfect for adding a bold vertical accent to areas with flat spreading ground covers and also looks fantastic popping up in rock gardens and sloping beds and banks. This gorgeous flower is deer resistant and a favorite of hummingbirds.
kniphofia ‘papaya popsicle’
The Lavandula Aromatico Blue is a terrific English lavender with deep violet-blue flowers and uniform mounds of silvery-grey aromatic foliage that stays evergreen through all the seasons. Compared to many other types of lavender, this select variety has larger, deeper colored flowers and is very free flowering. Another major difference is that this select form of lavender is grown from cuttings rather than seed, so every plant is genetically identical and therefore bound to produce superior results. This lavender is fantastic in herb gardens, raised beds, and as cut flowers. You won’t be the only one to enjoy this fragrant beauty–butterflies love them too!

Echinacea ‘Gum Drop’
echinacea ‘gum drop’
This delectable new coneflower is a whimsical summer bloomer that produces fragrant, bright pink pom pom blooms on sturdy stems. Flowering at less than 3 feet tall with multiple blooms, this is a coneflower with real flair. Each flower has a double layer of delight: A domed center of dark pink feathery petals displayed in perfect proportion above a broad rim of candy pink petals. Echinacea ‘Gum Drop’ is stunning in mixed borders, foundation plantings, sunny beds, naturalized plantings, cutting gardens and containers. Butterflies love to visit the nectar-rich flowers and later in the season, small birds will feed on the seed heads. Like other coneflowers, it is a long lasting cut flower. Try picking them early in the morning or late in the evening, just as the petals are unfolding. Condition them by placing them in cool water for a few hours and your cuttings will last for a week or more!
Dianthus ‘Candy Floss’
Dianthus ‘Candy Floss’ is a beautiful compact perennial with plenty of little double carnation flowers that are carried on top of bright blue-green foliage from early summer to autumn. Known for its rich, delightful fragrance, delicate floral patterns, re-blooming capabilities and ease of culture, this sweet little beauty is sure to make a striking contribution to any garden situation. ‘Candy Floss’ has a neat, mounding habit that is perfect at the front of beds and borders. The attractive evergreen foliage will last right up to the arrival of snow, so it is very effective when planted in large groupings of ground covers. The ‘Candy Floss’ Dianthus is low maintenance and also easy on the eyes with it’s sparkling pink flowers and wafting fragrance.

Dicentra ‘Valentine’
Dicentra ‘Valentine’ is an exciting new variety of the highly reliable and much loved Old-fashioned Bleeding Heart. With amazing red and white locket shaped flowers gracefully suspended along its arching red stems, this awesome recent introduction is capturing the hearts of gardeners all over the world. The handsome ferny foliage emerges as plum-colored shoots in early spring, gradually maturing to a soft grayishgreen color, making a perfect background to show off the brightly colored flowers. Because the flowers open progressively along the stems, it keeps on flowering to bring weeks of color that is as long lasting as it is beautiful. Old-fashioned Bleeding Hearts are great for gardens where deer, rabbits or groundhogs are present. This new form of Bleeding Hearts brings the extra benefit of adding even more color to dullish areas in shady or woodland gardens.
dicentra ‘valentine’
Rud beckia ‘Little Goldstar’
Also known as the Black Eyed Susan, this little beauty packs all the punch of a superstar but in a pint size pot. Growing only 14” to 16” tall and carrying more flowers than traditional varieties, ‘Little Goldstar’ is shorter, more compact and generally smaller in all aspects. The smaller leaves and bushy, heavily branched stems proudly display huge starburst shaped flowers. Like common Black Eyed Susans, ‘Gold Star’ flowers in mid-summer through fall and once established, is just as drought and heat tolerant and as easy to care for. This makes ‘Gold Star’ indispensible and highly valuable for late summer display. It will bring glowing color to any sunny or slightly shaded area and is a great choice for bed or border. rudbeckia ‘little goldstar’

Try using a drip irrigation system, which will slowly drip water to the roots of the plants to thoroughly soak them. Or, spray Rot-Stop when you see signs of Blossom End Rot.
Prune shrubs that have finished flowering. lawn care Monitor your lawn for fungal diseases, especially rust and powdery mildew. Spray with Fungonil Ready-to-Use Spray. Continue to mow lawn at 3” in height. This helps to conserve moisture and keep roots cool. Keep an eye out for grub damage and apply control if needed. Garden tools Always bring tools inside! Leaving them outside exposes them to unnecessary moisture which will shorten the life of the tool. Clean and dry tools after each use. Using rubbing alcohol and steel wool will help disinfect and clean tools. houseplants Fertilize houseplants once a week with ‘Jack’s Classic’ 15-30-15

Continue to monitor new ornamental plants for water. If spraying fungicides or insecticides, do not spray when temperatures are above 85 degrees to avoid damage to foliage. lawn care If weather is hot, avoid using fertilizer and weed control until September when temperatures become cooler. Continue to cut grass at 3” to avoid damage to lawn. Garden tools Prevent rust by applying a protective coating to the surface of tools. WD-40 works well. Prevent splinters by sanding wooden handled tools. Protect the handles by applying linseed oil.
Store tools up off the ground in a tool shed or garage. Spend the few extra dollars to purchase quality tools. They will last longer! Our gardening experts use Felco pruners.

A Container trees will require 10–15 gal-
netting. This will deter them from devouring the fruits of your labor.
Q Can I trim and cut back my perennials during the summer months, or should I wait until fall? A Now is the perfect time to do this. You
will encourage new growth and blooming through the late summer months.
Q I have a new garden bed that contains a lot of clay. What can I do to make it better for plantings in September? A It is recommended to add Bumper
Crop Soil Amendment to the soil when planting new trees, shrubs, or perennials. When digging, be sure to mix the clay from the bed with Bumper Crop rather than just putting straight Bumper Crop in the bed. Garden Gypsum is another great amendment for clay soils–best used at time of planting, but can also be mixed into the top inch of soil around existing shrubs.
lons of water applied once per week, slowly with a hose or with a Gator Bag. Bi-weekly watering may be required in periods of extreme heat and drought.
Q Did that rain count? A Most likely the answer is no. So often,
customers say “well it rained last Wednesday...” when the truth is, we had an afternoon shower for about an hour. Showering, short-term rainfall does NOT count when it comes to giving your landscape plants an adequate amount of water. And don’t forget, your investment is relying on you to keep it watered for the first year. If you planted it last fall, it’s still up to you to water it through this summer. Feel free to call us with questions about how much and how often your plants need to be watered. We’re happy to help!

What is design/build? Very simply, it is both the design and installation of a landscape project being performed by one company. The alternative to design/build involves the design and specifications created by one company (Landscape Architect or Designer) and the installation performed by another (Landscape Contractor). At Bucks Country Gardens, each Landscape Designer works directly with their clients from the beginning of the project to the end–literally manages the installation in addition to creating the design. The result is a seamless process, based on direct accountability and personal relationships.
Here’s how it works:
Should you have any questions or additional needs at a later date, our Garden Center is open seven days a week for your convenience. Trained horticulturists, designers and outdoor living specialist are always on staff to help should your designer be unavailable. At Bucks Country Gardens, we have everything you need to add your personal touch to the project–from seasonal planters and garden décor to casual furniture.

Landscape Design/Build Process
Bucks Country Gardens
1. A client phone call or completed Landscape Services Request Form from the Garden Center starts the process. One of our Landscape Designers will discuss with you both your needs and our services. 2. A site visit will be scheduled to review the specifics of your project and how we can provide the most appropriate service. Immediate on-site sketch plans and cost estimates may be used to address simple projects and determine feasibility. In most instances, a complete site analysis and client interview is conducted from which a design is created. 3. Detailed, professional landscape plans and specifications are required on most projects. We do charge a separate fee for our design services which can be credited towards the installation of your project. Clients, with whom we have worked in the past and new clients who have committed to working with us, will not be charged design fees. We will show you examples of our work and provide referrals to help you decide if you and Bucks Country Gardens are a good fit. More than 80% of our projects are referrals and repeat clients. 4. The landscape design and project proposal will be presented. This will take place at the Garden Center where you will have the opportunity to review and approve plant selections and personally select the key pieces for your project. Modifications, amendments and additions to the plan are finalized and the project is approved and scheduled. 5. The installation of your project will be supervised by our production manager together with your designer. Experienced and certified Bucks Country crews and our selected contractors will complete the project professionally, courteously, on time and on budget. 6. Your project will be reviewed and approved and the regular care needed to insure your success will be presented to you along with our seasonal maintenance services.

Keep Pesky Weeds Out of Your Lawn
Weeds love all of the conditions that your lawn doesn’t. Soil that’s too dry or too wet, thin spots, underfed grass–they look like home sweet home to all kinds of weeds. If you keep your lawn healthy, you’ll do a lot to keep weeds from taking over. Just follow these simple tips, and your lawn will look the way you always wanted it to.
mow high
Some people think that healthy lawns look like putting greens. The fact is, longer grass grows longer, healthier roots. By raising the setting on your lawnmower, you’ll do a lot to help your grass grow thick and healthy. A thick lawn keeps weeds out.
feed your lawn
Lawns need nutrients. Regular feeding helps them develop healthy roots and blades. Start with a spring feed around the first time that you mow. Follow with a late summer, fall, and Thanksgiving feeding, and your lawn will be as lush and beautiful as you’ve wanted it to be. If weeds have been well established in your yard, start out with a weed-and-feed product, such as Scotts® LawnPro® Weed and Feed

Maybe you have a battle going on in your yard, and the weeds are winning. In that case, you need to take more direct measures throughout the growing season. In the spring, feed your lawn with a product containing a pre-emergent. This will take care of grassy weeds. If your problem is dandelions, use Scotts® LawnPro® Weed and Feed. It should take care of the weeds and leave your grass unharmed.
ROBERTS AND COMPANY
Bucks Country Gardens
Lawns need water, but not too much or too little. Give your lawn a deep watering about once or twice a week. Frequent, shallow watering doesn’t do much for lawns, but it’s really helpful for weeds. Too little water stresses the lawn, and invites still more weeds to set up shop in your yard.

Fun for Kids!
This summer give your parents another reason to stay up past your bedtime… by creating your very own “Moon Garden”. What is a moon garden? Well, it’s a garden that features certain plants that you can see at night, bloom at night, and even smell at night!
Whimsical Garden Fairy Shadow Place these fairy shadows all through your backyard and have them dance from flower pot to flower pot!
How to get started: Pick your favorite spot in the yard to create your themed garden. You can also plant a moon garden in a container to leave on your patio. Next pick out your flowers and plants. Look for any white flowering plants such as Nicotiana, Cleome, or Phlox ‘David’. The vine Moonflower is great to include since it blooms at night. Also, add plants that have silver foliage, like Dusty Miller, or green and white variegated foliage, like Caladiums or Hostas. After your eyes adjust to the night, the light colors and white nearly glow in the dark. The blooms look like they are floating in the dark, because you can’t see the green stems. Don’t forget something fragrant, like Jasmine or Gardenias, to enjoy while you are in your new moon garden.

Town and Country Players was the brainchild of local residents Florence Weisel, Lenora Dunn and Jean and Milton Rutherford. Together, they began the quest of bringing a non-equity play house to central Bucks County. Private conversations ignited public interest, and the troupe blossomed from 19 to 40 by the debut of their first production “The Late George Apley”, watched by 400 patrons on February 27, 1948 at Doylestown Borough School at Broad and Court Streets. In 1953, Town and Country Players pooled actors and volunteers to assist Pearl S. Buck’s Welcome House in their production of “The Happy Children,” written and directed by Philip Mathias. International icons such as Oscar Hammerstein II and Pearl S. Buck performed alongside T and C members. When a professional children’s theater group scheduled to perform at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music cancelled, T and C stepped in and staged its first children’s play of “Pinocchio.” This started the tradition that exists today of our family productions, first staged at area schools, firehouses, grange halls and arts festivals. In 1957, Town and Country Players rented the barn situated on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Nichols. When the Nichols’ offered to sell the barn structure separate from the rest of the farm in 1962, a permanent home was secured. Through the years there has been an ever-present array of skilled laborers and volunteer carpenters, electricians and craftsmen whose time, talents and skills have improved their facility. Actors, musicians and family members have been known to pick-up a paint brush or hammer to beautify the Barn. Extensive upgrades in 2010-11 included new insulation of the theater and sound booth, house lights, control system, rewiring, house carpet, heating/cooling unit in dressing rooms, backstage monitors and improved utilization of set build and costume areas. Town and Country Players has become known as one of the most successful and “audience-friendly” community theaters in the Greater Philadelphia region. They now boast six to seven professionally-staged productions sifted each year through hundreds of in-demand scripts by the Play Reading Committee, approved by the Board of Directors and ultimately voted on by their general members So, thrill to the anticipation as you approach the new Box Office ticket counter in the luxurious Club Room and head upstairs to the main stage entrance where you are greeted by ushers. Take your seat as the music of the orchestra climbs and the lights fade to black as the show begins. With 64 seasons of fantastic theater presented to you by Town and Country Players, who knows what new surprises they have in store for you! Town and Country Players is a non-profit community theater located on Route 263 in Buckingham. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in theater and the desire to help.
