You may be experiencing financial difficulty already at this point or anticipating financial hardship during the foreseeable future. There are some actions that you can take to alleviate your problems or reduce the severity of them. Existing debts such as credit cards and commercial loans. Speak with your lenders to see what help that they can offer to you. This might be a payment holiday on some amounts or a pause in payment for a period. The key is to check your lenders website and speak to them about how you can manage your money. Mortgages and Rent: If you are struggling, speak to your lender or landlord at the earliest opportunity. For students with Mortgages you may be advised to switch to an interest only mortgage for a period to cut down on your outgoings. Banks and mortgage providers are reacting to the current situation and depending on who your lender is you may be able to get some relief from your mortgage expenses. For students who rent it is always best to have an open dialogue with your landlord/ agency/council about what deferments of payments they can allow. The situation for private tenants is likely to develop with suggestions of additional measures being put in place to support renters during the period when the Coronavirus is likely to be having an effect on tenants. Additional support can be sought from the housing charity Shelter england. shelter.org.uk/get_help Looking for additional funding: The University has a Hardship Fund that students can apply to if you are in financial hardship. Not all applications to the fund will be successful. To apply for the Bucks Hardship Fund please contact the Students’ Union Advice Centre by emailing suadvice@Bucks.ac.uk. If you could ensure that you send your name, contact phone number, ID number, and a time and date you would prefer to have the appointment at. will need to scan or download the additional documents before returning it to your advisor for checking. The advisor will send the form to the university on your behalf. Bucks Student Success Bursary is open to all first year students. The closing date for applications to the additional fund is on Friday 27 March. Please contact the Student Centre at thestudentcentre@bucks.ac.uk for a form. When completing the form you will need to complete all sections. Additional funding is available to eligible NHS students through the Learning Support Fund if you started your course after August 2017, or August 2018 for Postgraduate Diploma Nursing students. Make sure that you are registered. If you have children under the age of 15 years or under 17 years if the child is registered with special educational needs, you will be able to apply for funding of £1000 paid in three instalments. If you have applied for the Bucks Hardship Fund and you need further support after receiving an outcome from the fund, you can additionally apply for the Exceptional Support Fund. If you are in need of a foodbank, and during the period that the service is not available in the Students’ Union at Uxbridge, you can search for local food banks by visiting: trusselltrust. org/get-help/find-a-foodbank. For now the foodbank at the High Wycombe is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, The food bank may be available at other times – but this is reliant on staff availability at the campus. Additional grants may be available from sites such as turn2us.org.uk If you are having any financial issues and you want to speak with an advisor, please email the Students’ Union Advice Centre at suadvice@bucks.ac.uk.
