The Presidente Donald Trump signed an executive order to end the separation of parents and children Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order to “keep families together” amid extraordinary public condemnation over his practice of separating children from their parents at the southern border.

“I consider it to be a very important executive order,” Trump said during the signing ceremony in the Oval Office, flanked

by Vice-President Mike Pence and the homeland security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen. “It’s about keeping families together while at the same time being sure that we have a very powerful, very strong border, and border security will be equal if not greater than previously.”

He added: “I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated.”

However, the text of the executive order makes clear that a hardline approach to immigration enforcement will continue.

The order instructs government officials to continue its “zerotolerance” enforcement policy of criminal prosecution for every immigrant who crosses the border illegally, but says that officials will seek to “maintain family unity” by detaining parents and children together instead of separating them while their legal cases wind through a severely backlogged immigration court system.

The language leaves room for exceptions, however, noting that “alien families” would be

detained together “where appropriate and consistent with law and available resources”.

The president’s action also directs the attorney general, Jeff Sessions, to go to court to ask for a modification to a 1997 court settlement, known as Flores, which currently prohibits the detention of migrant children for more than 20 days.

A successful legal battle could see parents held with their children in detention until proceedings have been completed. If the court denies the request, the order will almost certainly face legal challenges from immigration activists who represent families that are detained in the facilities.

“They are substituting jailing children with their families for separating children from their parents and that is not any sort of solution to family separation,” said Kate Voigt, an associate director of government relations at the American Immigration Lawyers Association. “The zero tolerance policy remains in effect and that is the root of the family separation crisis created by the

Trump administration.”

The signing of the order marked a sudden reversal for Trump, who only hours earlier had insisted that the law demanded children be separated from their parents.

He claimed that only Congress could resolve that.

On Monday, Nielsen told reporters: “Congress and the courts created this problem, and Congress alone can fix it. Until then, we will enforce every law we have on the books to defend the sovereignty and security of the United States.”

But as television news channels continued to show distressing images of children in detention and a chorus of Republicans called on the president to act, Trump abruptly changed course.

D

ozens of people have died, hundreds are missing and many more homes were destroyed after separate volcanic eruptions in Hawaii and Guatemala that made headlines worldwide in recent months. And although those volcano eruptions are not part of a trend, experts have said, the volcanoes in question are far from the only dangerous ones in the world.

When assessing which volcanoes are the most dangerous in the world, however, several factors come into play, including population density surrounding active volcanoes, the types of magma that emerge during eruptions and each volcano’s eruption history.

For example, an explosive volcanic eruption in a remote area is not as dangerous as one in a populous region that requires mass evacuations. And volcanoes that go a long time without erupting pose a higher risk for eruption because of mounting pressure inside them.

Magma content is one way to assess a particular volcano’s danger level, according to Stanley Mertzman, a geosciences professor at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. Mertzman says experts will look at the level of silica, a rock-forming compound that affects the thickness of lava and a volcano’s overall shape, according to the USGS. Silica can indicate how dangerous an eruption can be because it tends to crystallize into chains in cooling lava, increasing its viscosity, in turn creating thicker magma that can make a volcano erupt more explosively.

“The degree of danger increases dramatically as silica content increases,” Mertzman tells TIME. “The higher the silica content, the greater the viscosity — the magma becomes stickier, thicker, much harder to stir.”

Rising silica levels in magma also give way to pyroclastic flows, a quick-moving mixture of lava, ash, gas and rock pieces that can be deadly because they cause asphyxiation, Mertzman says. “Picture a hot avalanche of material.”

Guatemala’s Fuego volcano eruption on Sunday, which killed at least 75 people, formed a pyroclastic flow.

Unlike Fuego, the lava flow from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, which has been erupting for a month, is a type of basalt. It poses little danger to people, unless they get in the way — thousands of people have been evacuated in the last month and Kilauea has destroyed several homes.

Regions where volcanic eruptions can be deadly include Indonesia, the Philippines, parts of South America and various volcanoes in the U.S. Below, see some of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes, based on their volcanic history, population densities and magma type.

Italy’s Vesuvius has been a menacing figure since an eruption in 79 CE buried the city of Pompeii. Over

the last 17,000 years, the volcano has gone through eight major explosive eruptions that were followed by large pyroclastic flows, according to the Smithsonian Institute/USGS Global Volcanic Programdatabase.

Vesuvius’ last known eruption occurred in 1944. The Italian government has multiple plans prepared for a possible eruption in the future. At least six million people live in the vicinity of Vesuvius, according to the database.

A number of factors make Mount Rainier one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the U.S. The USGS points to Mount Rainier’s high elevation, chemical composition, proximity to Washington’s Seattle and Tacoma suburbs and the volcano’s ability produce intense pyroclastic flows, lava flows and volcanic ash. The heat from Mount Rainier’s lava flows could potentially melt the snow and ice on the volcano, causing a rapid downstream flow of mud, rocks and debris called lahar. Huge lahars are the greatest risk posed by an eruption at Mount Rainier, according to the USGS. More than two million people would be affected by an eruption, according to the Global Volcanism Program Japan’s famous Mount Fuji has not erupted since 1707, when a major earthquake earlier that year likely set it off, according to a report from Oregon State University’s Volcano World program. In 2014, experts warned that Fuji was at risk for another eruption following the 9.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Japan in 2011.

According to researchers, the earthquake raised pressure below Fuji. The 1707 eruption sent ash and debris into the air that even reached Tokyo. If Fuji erupts again, more than 25 million people in the surrounding area could be affected, according to the Global Volcanism Program.

One of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, Mount Merapi has been continuously erupting for centuries. According to NASA, Merapi’s biggest risk is pyroclastic flows, which can spread over wide areas and threaten people.

May 11, sending plumes of smoke into the air and prompting evacuations from the populous region — more than 24 million people live in the surrounding area, according to the Global Volcanism Program.

Hawaii is bracing itself for even more destruction from the Kilauea volcano as officials warn it is at risk of “explosive eruptions.”

As the Kilauea volcano’s lava lake continues to sink down, the U.S. Geological Survey says it could set off steam-driven explosions, sending “ballistic projectiles,” including ash clouds and rocks, into the air, Hawaii News Nowreported Wednesday.

18 fissures have now opened up as a result of the volcanic eruption, with the latest fracturing on the Kalapana side of Highway 132. It is already spewing steam and lava spatter activity, according to an emergency message update from the County of Hawaii’s Civil Defense department. The 16th fissure, which opened on Saturday, is nearby a geothermal plant, according to the USGS, and workers there removed 50,000 gallons of pentane stored onsite as a cautionary measure, according to the Associated Press.

Una fuente de la Casa Blanca ha confirmado que Trump ha rubricado un documento que permitirá que los niños que cruzan la frontera junto a sus padres indocumentados se queden con ellos en centros de detención de inmigrantes durante un plazo de tiempo dilatado.

Horas antes, Donald Trump había dicho que firmaría una medida “en un rato” para afrontar el problema de la separación de los niños inmigrantes de sus padres en la frontera del país.

Al menos 2.342 niños inmigrantes han sido separados de sus padres entre el 5 de mayo y el 9 de junio, según datos oficiales.

A partir de ahora, los padres serán llevados junto a sus hijos a centros de detención de inmigrantes, lo que probablemente generará demandas contra la Casa Blanca porque contraviene un acuerdo al que el Gobierno estadounidense se comprometió en 1997.

Haley harked back to a speech she delivered to the council one year ago this month, in which she laid down something of an ultimatum. At that point, she told members that they must stop singling out Israel for condemnation and must clean up their roster — which includes Venezuela, China and Saudi Arabia, among others — or the council could bid the U.S. farewell.

Pull Out Of U.N. Human Rights Council In remarks to the Graduate Institute of Geneva, given the same day as her council speech, Haley made the matter plain.

“If the Human Rights Council is going to be an organization we entrust to protect and promote human rights, it must change,” she said. “If it fails to change, then we must pursue the advancement of human rights outside of the council.”

In the year that has elapsed since those speeches, such reforms never happened.

Instead, she said, the council stayed silent on violent repression in Venezuela, a member state, and welcomed another country with a problematic record of its own, the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“The council ceases to be worthy of its name,” Haley said, explaining the U.S. withdrawal.

“Such a council in fact damages the cause of human rights.”

Trump’s diplomatic team is not the first within the U.S. to voice such criticism.

When the council was first established in 2006, the administration of George W. Bush withheld its membership over similar concerns. And when the Obama administration announced in 2009 that it would reverse course and seek membership, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. at the time, Susan Rice, said the decision was made out of a belief “that working from within, we can make the council a more effective THE TWO-WAY forum to promote and Trump Administration protect human rights.”

Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, said the U.S. focus on Israel’s treatment has actually caused American officials to lose sight of the good work the council has done elsewhere.

“The U.N. Human Rights Council has played an important role in such countries as North Korea, Syria, Myanmar and South Sudan, but all Trump seems to care about is defending Israel,” Roth said in a statement to NPR. “Like last time when the U.S. government stepped away from the Council for similar reasons, other governments will have to redouble their efforts to ensure the Council addresses the world’s most serious human rights problems.”

Este asopao para el almuerzo que no es lo mismo que la sopa pues este queda menos aguado

2 cdas grandes de sofrito hecho en casa (receta en mi página) 1 sobre sazón con culantro 1 hoja laurel (opcional) Ingredientes: 1 cdita jugo de limón o vinagre 4 pechugas de pollo a gusto Guisantes y picadas en cuadros zanahorias 1 cebolla mediana 2 cubitos con sabor a picadita pollo 1 pimiento verde o rojo 1 taza arroz preferible picadito grano mediano 2 dientes ajos 6 tazas agua machacados 2 cdas aceite a gusto Aceitunas Para las bolitas de verdes plátanos: al gusto Sal, pimienta 1 plátano verde (no 8 hojitas cilantro banana verde) 1/2 cdita orégano seco Aceite de oliva

1 oz jamón de cocinar o tocineta 1/4 cebolla picadita 2 dientes ajo machacados PREPARACION; A la taza de arroz le añades agua y la dejas ahí por media hora.

Cocina en el aceite las cebollas junto con el pimiento y luego añades el ajo. En fuego medio Añade el pollo ya sazonado con sal y pimienta y ya picado y lo cocinas hasta que esté listo Luego añades todos

los demás ingredientes excepto el arroz ni el jugo de limón y deja cocinar por 15 minutos Botas el agua del arroz y pasados los 15 minutos del paso 3, añades el arroz y lo dejas cocinar unos 25 a 30 minutos en fuego medio Cuando este listo añades el limón. Yo lo serví con bolitas de plátanos Bolita de plátanos: fríes el plátano verde como si fueras a hacer tostones.

Luego los aplastas en

un pilón. A parte en un chorrito de aceite de oliva cocinas el jamón con cebolla y ajo y luego todo lo unes.

Lo sazonas con sal y pimienta o adobo goya.

De ser necesario añades aceite de oliva y un chorrito de vinagre Bolitas de plátanosdurante 10 minutos. Retira del horno, sirve y disfruta. puedes servirlo acompañado de aguacate.
