TrusJoist Reborn As RedBuilt
Atlas Holdings LLC, Greenwich, Ct., acquired Weyerhaeuser's former TrusJoist commercial division and will establish it as an independent business to be renamed RedBuilt. The name honors Harold "Red" Thomas. a wholesale lumberman who started TJ in 1960 with inventor Art Troutner.
The newly named company has manufacturing facilities in Chino, Ca., Hillsboro and Stayton, Or., and Delaware, Oh., as well as l3 design and sales offices across the country. Headquarters will be reestablished in Boise, Id., and members of TJ's former management team will return as investors and managers.
Tom Denig, former TrusJoist c.e.o., will serve as chairman of the board, with Bill Walters, former general manager and v.p.-operations. as vice chairman.
President and c.e.o. will be Kurt Liebich, who oversaw commercial and industrial operations at TJ before succeeding Denig as c.e.o.
In all, about 230 employees will transfer from Weyerhaeuser to Atlas.

Roof Supplier Adds In Oregon
Redding Roofing Supply, Redding, Ca., opened its fifteenth R&S Supply branch Aug. 3 in Eugene, Or.
The former Lumber Products facility sits on five acres with 80,000 sq. ft. of covered storage and a rail spur. Marty Janisse is branch manager.
The 32-year-old wholesale distributor now operates two branches in Oregon, two in Montana, three in Idaho, one in Nevada, and seven in California.
Bison Released From Leases
A bankruptcy courtjudge has freed Bison Building Materials, Houston, Tx., from I I property leases that it claimed were preventing it from returning to profitability.
Bison stopped rent payments in
May after closing the yards earlier in the year. They include two in Aurora, Co.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Las Vegas, Nv.; San Antonio, Conroe,Irving, and three in Houston, Tx., and Monroe, Oh. The chain said it had attempted to sublease the shuttered facilities, but could not find tenants for the majority.
Bison traces its problems to overaggressive expansion along the Interstate 35 corridor. Once with 24 locations, Bison now has eight yards in the Houston and Beaumont region.
Weyco Parts With NW Lands
Weyerhaeuser Co., Federal Way, Wa., agreed to sell roughly 140,000 acres of timberlands in northwestern Oregon to an affiliate of Campbell Group, Portland, Or., for approximately $300 million. The deal is expected to close in third quarter 2009.
In addition, Weyco is considering selling up to 82.000 acres in as many as five tracts in southwestern Washington.
Combined, the Oregon and Washington deals would represent about l}Vo of Weyco's 6 million acres of U.S. timberland.
