K-Ply Mill Comes Back

The former K-Ply mill in Port Angeles, Wa., has been acquired by a group of investors and will be reopened as Peninsula Plywood-the 68-year-old facility's original name.

President and co-owner Josh Renshaw was sales manager of K-Ply, which was last owned by Klukwan Inc.. Haines. Ak. He and the other investors negotiated a long-term lease with the port of Port Angeles that requires the new owners to begin renovating and repairing the mill within 45 days. It also calls for the hiring of at least 60 full-time workers in the next three months.

K-Ply closed in November 2O07, putting 132 employees out of work. The mill equipment was seized by Sterling Savings after loans were not repaid, and mill buildings on the 19acre property were seized after the former owner stopped paying rent.

"Plywood is a big part of the history of this town," said Renshaw. "Now we can see it in the future as well."

JM Buys Montana Producer

Johns Manville Corp., Denver, Co., has acquired spray-foam insula- tion manufacturer Corbond Corp., Belgrade, Mt.

JM will begin marketing Corbond III, a closed-cell polyurethane foam plastic insulation product, to complement its own line of fiberglass building insulation.

"Our customers asked for a spray foam product, and we answered their call with one of the most advanced, performance-driven closed-cell foams available," said Mike Lawrence, v.p. and general manager for JM's insulation-systems division. "The acquisition of Corbond allows us to offer a continuum of high-quality insulation products."

Corbond's employees will continue to work at its Belgrade manufacturing plant, where JM also plans to build a product demonstration and training facility.
