On May 3, 1944,the Jews were gathered and put into ghettos. From May 29, 1944, 6,953 Jews were deported to Auschwitz, and only 1,200 survived.
“What I would really like to do is to perpetuate the memory of our former classmates and finish what we had started almost 65 years ago. Then, we were preparing to immortalize the students and the teachers, working on the so called " tablou " ( panel with our photos ) that was customary to prepare at the school graduation. Unfortunately our plans failed because of the catastrophe. Mark Elemer Former student of the 4th grade ( gymnasium)

Over the years, I've visited our former class several times. The last visit took place in 2003 when I was accompanied by my granddaughter Noa. Thanks to the good will of the current principal, we went in ,in the middle of a lesson, and she told the students that we also studied there, decades ago (1941-1944). The names of the students and teachers who didn't survive the Holocaust are mentioned on a big commemorative panel.

I want to thank Elemer for all what he has done for us by keeping us together! Due to his efforts, a dream became reality. (Ilonka)

“I, a young ,fifteen years old girl , was taken to hell – to Auschwitz, together with some of my classmates. By chance I survived !After the liberation I got married and raised a family. This was my victory over those who wanted to destroy us ! This commemorative panel must remind the future generations about the terrible events we had to live through. It must remind the future generations that the Shoah was possible because we didn’t have a country. Respect and love our country Israel, with all your heart !” Mittelman Ilonka Bruner
Thanks to the material that Elemer gathered (and it was not an easy task ), it was possible to finish the panel that the class began preparing in 1944. I want to thank Elemer for the privilege I had to help a little and be able to make this presentation. Noemi,Ilonka’s daughter
We must not forget, we don't have the right! The surviving victim remains, by some miracle, a witness who has the duty to tell what happened, especially while seeing in the eyes of his contemporary the light of remembering fading away "
