THE BEST SUMMER

SUNGLASSES

M.V.P. is the Chamberlain, a frame equipped with — get this — tinted clip-on lenses. Since it’s not every day you come across a glasses-sunglasses hybrid like this, we’re betting it’s the out-of-the-box aesthetic that has caused them to sell like crazy. Plus, they offer 100% UV protection (hello, sun protection), an anti-scratch coating (much-needed), a carrying case for the clips (so organized!), and ring in at under $200. They really can’t be beat, especially when you’re essentially getting two pairs for the cost of one. The only caveat? They’re limited-edition, meaning when they’re gone, they’re gone for good. So click through to make moves on these now (just think of the GIF potential!). And if they’re wiped clean by the time you’re reading this, we’ve provided some similar options for your shade-shopping pleasure.

ROUND FACE Oversized rectangular frames always make a stylish statement on women with round faces. Just ask Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who turn to this silhouette time and time again. You never want something until you can’t have it. So, each week in The Sell-Out, we’re getting the scoop from your favorite retailers on what’s selling like crazy. Watch this space to find out what everyone’s buying, sign up for wait lists, and keep tabs on restocks. When someone tells us they’re in need of a new pair of glasses, the first brand we often recommend is Warby Parker. Considering just how difficult it can be to find frames that check all the boxes (fit right, are comfortable, affordable, and mesh well with your personal style), Warby Parker’s options somehow do it all.

Mirrored lenses are having a moment right now - have a quick look at the A/W ‘15 catwalks for proof. However, forget those Eighties iterations that have given the genre a bad rep - you’ll find this season’s mirrored shades are riffs on classic frame

But there’s always that one pair of glasses everyone is trying to get their hands on. And this season, the

shapes (and consequently far sleeker). These Kite sunglasses are a superb example, with a blue mirrored lens slipped into traditional, handmade Italian tortoiseshell acetate, topped off with a smart, metal bar. Tip: round lenses tend to suit people with a more square shaped face best.

Collaborations don’t come more stylish than this paring between Stockholm-based scentmaster Byredo and high-end American eyewear brand Oliver Peoples. These shades are available in blue, black and sand acetate and each fitted with coordinating photochromatic lenses inspired by the colours of Los Angeles.

Montblanc It might be best known for its pens, but Montblanc’s retrostyle sunglasses are also worth noting. Case in point, the brand has just launched a new limited edition tortoiseshell pair that not only throw-back to the 1930s in their frame style, but also come with a one-of-a-kind monocle that can be attached to the frames or thread - all packed up inside a sleek, black leather box. £376.

Polaroid The benefits of buying polarised lenses are plenty: glare-free vision, more natural colours, reduced eye fatigue and 100 per cent UV protection. However, often this kind of increased protection comes at a cost. Not at Polaroid, whose latest Rainbow Collection line of shades give you these advantage at a very reasonable price and in some distinctly eye-catching, summer-friendly frame colours.

Kirk Originals If you want shades that are sure to go with everything you own, choose something in clear acetate. We particularly like the throwback Seventies shape of these Kirk Originals sunglasses - and with a seethrough frame and smoked lens, you be be hard pushed to find another pair this versatile.

Boss Orange by Hugo Boss We’re a big fan of style hybrids, and this is one of our favorites when it comes to shades right now. Traditional tortoiseshell from the front, it’s only when you turn to the side that you get a splash of blue with the contrast metal arms. Perfect with a white shirt, shorts and a pair of breezy Rivieras on the beach. We haven’t hidden our enthusiasm about Henry Holland’s first menswear line, which launched during London Collections Men. Now, the matching glasses he showed are available to go with - and they’re an equally colourful affair, available in navy, deep red and, our personal favourite, army green with matching green lenses and a contrasting orange logo.

FRENCH BULLDOGS

The French Bulldog has enjoyed a long history as a companion dog. Created in England to be a miniature Bulldog, he accompanied English lacemakers to France, where he acquired his Frenchie moniker. Besides being a companion, he once served as an excellent ratter, but today his job focuses on being a fabulous family friend and show dog. He’s a rare dog breed, so expect to put in some time on a waiting list before you’re able to bring one home.

his empty food bowl. To avoid confusing the pup, hammer out the house rules ahead of time (will the dog be allowed on the bed? On the couch? Where will the dog sleep? Are any rooms of the house permanently off-limits?).

Before your new dog arrives

crate food and water bowls food and maybe some treats for training. Try to get the same food your dog’s been easy since a sudden switch in diet can upset his stomach. collar and leash bed toys, especially chew toys

2. Stock up on the right supplies. Buy some of the basics ahead of time, so you both and your dog can settle in without too many mad dashes to the store. Here’s what you’ll need:

1. Have a family pow-wow. A dog is a big commitment, so before you take the plunge, make sure you’re all together on wanting this newest member of the family. Then decide who’s going to be the primary caretaker–otherwise you’ll spend lots of time arguing while your dog stares at

pets stain- and odor-removing cleaners possibly some baby gates to block off sections of your house 3. Prepare your house. This requires a little more work if you’re getting a puppy, since they can be champion chewers and have a knack for getting into things they shouldn’t. But no matter what your dog’s age, you’ll want to do some organizing ahead of time.

For a shy puppy or dog, being taken to a new place and then deluged with lots of loud, lively strangers can be really overwhelming. The first day or two, keep the mood mellow and calm. 2. Introduce your dog to his crate. Crates are the best way to housetrain, but most dogs need a little time to warm up to them. This isn’t hard to do; you just need to know how to introduce your dog or pup to his crate.

Create a temporary, gated-off living space for your dog or pup, where she can’t damage your belongings or eat something that will make her sick. She’ll stay in this area whenever you’re not with her to prevent her from having housetraining accidents.

3. Start your training. The earlier you start, the faster and easier it will be to teach good manners and the better the lessons will stick. The two most important things to teach your dog are:

5. Find a good school. Group obedience classes are great for bonding with your new dog and for learning how to communicate with and train your dog. They’re especially recommended for young puppies, since they give pups a chance to get comfortable being around other canines and people–a key part of raising a safe, friendly dog.

housetraining getting comfortable around people and other dogs 4. Set up a routine. A routine helps with housetraining and is reassuring to your dog. Figure out a schedule for walks, meals, bathroom breaks, and exercise,–and try to stick to it.

Dog training is unregulated, and pretty much anyone can call herself a dog trainer, so you’ll want to do a little research to make sure you’ve found the right class and teacher. 6. Plan the trip home. Find a helper to come along when you go to pick up your dog. Young puppies who’ve never been on a car ride before may get rattled, and even adult dogs can get nervous–and a terror-filled car ride can turn into a long-lasting phobia of car travel. Ask someone to sit next to your dog on the ride home, soothing him and keeping him from hopping into your lap while you’re driving. If your dog’s used to a crate, you can stash him in the crate for the ride home. Just make sure it’s secured; sliding around the backseat will make the drive more stressful. Once your dog is home 1. Keep it pleasant but low-key at first.
