COVID-19 REPORT CARD Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Bunnings has continued to adapt its business operations to ensure that we could remain open for tradespeople, essential products and critical repairs while keeping team members and suppliers safe in our retail stores and support offices.
We currently employ more than 55,000 team members across 387 trading locations in Australia and New Zealand. Our supply chain has direct impacts for more than one million people, including suppliers, manufacturers, transport operators, service providers, tradespeople and their families. Since March 2020, we have created more than 8,000 additional jobs and employed many workers from industries including aviation and tourism who were immediately stood down due to the pandemic. When the pandemic began we immediately stood down vulnerable team on full pay, along with those impacted by border closures or potential COVID exposure. To date we have provided over $4.2 million in pandemic leave (with no assistance from Jobkeeper) to our Australian team members We strongly encouraged shopping online for non-urgent items, and in early 2020 developed a contactless “drive and collect” purchasing model for customers to purchase and pick up products while remaining safely in their cars during lockdowns. Since June 2020, over 3.6 million orders have been collected using Drive & Collect at Bunnings’ Australia stores.
Mile End, SA
Comprehensive hygiene and safety measures were implemented in all stores to protect the health and wellbeing of team, customers, and suppliers, including COVID Safe plans and bespoke apps to manage customer numbers in-store and limit shopping time. We have strongly encouraged all eligible team members to be vaccinated by providing up to six hours paid vaccination leave as well as epidemiologist livestreams and podcasts to address any vaccine hesitancy.
Stafford, QLD
Weekly livestreams were held for team via our Workplace channel to brief them on COVID impacts and reduce confusion and anxiety. This was further supported by a series of livestreams and podcasts with mental health experts such as The Resilience Project and Graeme Cowan on wellbeing. Additional measures such as care packs, Uber eats vouchers, school holiday packs, after school online fun programs for school aged children, and store buddy arrangements were activated to help those undergoing extended lockdowns. More than $3.1 million in Bunnings’ gift cards has been donated to over 6,000 community groups to assist with alternative fundraising when fundraising sausage sizzles were cancelled due to COVID-19.
