April Updates Welcome to April! We hope you are all well and are ready to enjoy the warmer weather. As spring makes an entrance and Covid seems to be making an exit, things are picking up at our centers. Harry is back in person for his Thursday classes. Wednesday Bridge has returned this month at Joslyn. We are also working on bringing back more activities to the centers. To stay up to date on all program changes, sign up for our email list. You can leave your name and email at the front desk. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! We want to thank all our volunteers that selflessly give their time to serve others. We are grateful to those that help in the kitchen, front desk, and those that direct a class or program. Without their help, our centers would not be what they are today. We have a few events planned for the month of April. Welbe Health will be hosting a Mini Farmer’s Market at Tuttle on April 5th. Welbe Health will also be hosting a Scrapbook Journal Event at Joslyn on April 12th. Check the events page for additional information. We hope you enjoy a nice start to spring!

PERSONALIZE YOUR PLATE

HOME DELIVERED MEALS PROGRAM

Include foods that you prefer from each food group. Including a variety of foods can help you get all the nutrients that are needed for good health. These tips can help you get started:

The City of Burbank Home Delivered Meal Program provides eligible adults age 60+ residents with nutritional assistance by delivering a well-balanced meal and opportunity to monitor wellbeing of the homebound elderly during the week. • Eligibility for receiving a home delivered meal is based on a screening assessment of the participant by telephone or a home visit. Verification of the need for this service is determined through a home assessment within one week of the beginning of the meal service. • Voluntary suggested donation is $3.00 For more information regarding the program, please call (818) 238-5366. This program is partially grant funded by the County of Los Angeles Workforce Development and Community Services.

Fill half your plate with fruits and veggies. Get creative with produce by trying an assortment of colors and textures.

Experiment with different grains. Try substituting whole grains for refined grains in recipes.

Choose lean protein foods. Vary your choices to include seafood, beans, peas, and lentils, as well as eggs, lean cuts of meat and poultry that are prepared in a healthful way, such as baked or grilled instead of fried.

Complete your meal with dairy. Include low-fat or fat-free options like milk, yogurt, cheese, calcium-fortified soymilk, or lactose-free milk.

BURBANK BUS Burbank Bus Senior & Disabled Transit provides transportation service to Burbank residents age 60 or over or disabled (with doctor’s certification). This service offers efficient, comfortable, and reliable transportation within the City of Burbank. Reservations are required.
