JUNE UPDATES Welcome to the month of June and Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers out there. We can’t believe we’re almost at the halfway point of 2022! Time sure is flying by. Things are picking up here at Joslyn. May was an exciting and busy month for us. We had the return of Ballroom Dance on Thursday nights. We can see how much everyone missed dancing and socializing with each other. It’s great to see it back again. Our Flower Pot Painting Event with Welbe Health filled up quickly and even had a waiting list. There was a lot of laughter and smiles at the event. This brings us joy as it’s a glimmer of hope to getting back to some type of “normal”. Speaking of events, Doc Talks are coming back to Joslyn. Our first Doc Talk, sponsored by Optum, will be in July with Dr. Hacopian. More information can be found on our events page. For some, the time is getting close to renew your BSAC (Burbank Senior Activity Card). This is just a reminder that your card is valid for a year from the date of purchase. If you would like to know when your BSAC expires, you can check with the staff at the front desk. We are always looking to bring in new activities or groups to the centers. Are you knowledgeable or skilled in a certain area and want to share it with others? You can stop by the front desk and pick up an activity proposal sheet.

TAI CHI with Chris and John Tuesdays at Joslyn 10:00am-11:00am Tai chi is a system of exercise developed in ancient China. Technically, a martial art, tai chi’s low-impact style will benefit anyone’s health regardless of age or physical ability. Tai chi enhances one’s balance, agility, joint and muscle strength. Also, increased oxygen in the blood heals the body, restores the immune system, and decreases stress. It may reduce chronic symptoms too. Tai chi’s slow motion dance enhances memory and concentration. Instructors, Chris and John believe in ‘no pain, lots of gain.’ All are welcome to their Tuesday morning class. Wear comfortable clothing.
FRENCH with Mademoiselle Forno Fridays at Joslyn 12:30pm-2:30pm Bonjour everyone! Mademoiselle Forno would like to invite you to learn the beautiful language of French. In 202, Alexa received her bachelor’s degree in Human Services with a minor in Society’s Relationship to Health and Nutrition. She has accumulated nearly nine years of food service experience. She intends to continue serving the Burbank Nutrition Program and the community with hard work, creativity, and care. Congratulations Alexa! HOME DELIVERED MEALS PROGRAM The City of Burbank Home Delivered Meal Program provides eligible adults age 60+ residents with nutritional assistance by delivering a well-balanced meal and opportunity to monitor wellbeing of the homebound elderly during the week. • Eligibility for receiving a home delivered meal is based on a screening assessment of the participant by telephone or a home visit. Verification of the need for this service is determined through a home assessment within one week of the beginning of the meal service. • Voluntary suggested donation is $3.00 For more information regarding the program, please call (818) 238-5366. This program is partially grant funded by the County of Los Angeles Workforce Development and Community Services.
EAT THE RAINBOW Try a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially of those of different colors, tol keep things fresh and interesting. If the thought of piling fruit onto your plate doesn’t seem appealing, add them to ice cream, yogurt, or smoothies. If you don’t like veggies, try roasting them or dipping them in a small amount of dressing for additional flavor.
