General Precautions
1. Inspect all ARETE equipment thoroughly before each use.
2. Always use PPE when operating and cleaning.
3. Follow OSHA guidelines.
4. Handle the equipment with care to avoid dropping or applying excessive force.
5. Contact your Burkhart Service team if the product is damaged or any problem occurs.
6. Intended for use by trained dental professionals only.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
ARETE Handpieces, components, and stools are guaranteed to be free of manufacturing defects. For detailed warranty information, please refer to each product’s respective sections in this book.
All Handpieces
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
1. Always turn off the power supply when connecting or removing.
2. It is recommended to replace the o-rings/ gaskets every six months or sooner, depending on how often they’re used. Worn o-rings/gaskets can cause issues like water or air leakage, difficulty swiveling the handpiece, and poor water spray.
3. Avoid immersing handpieces, motors, and couplers in disinfectant solution or cleaning in ultrasonic devices.
4. Sterilize before first use.
5. Clean, lubricate and sterilize immediately after each treatment.
A. Clean before lubricating.
B. Lubricate the handpiece before sterilization.
C. Follow manufacturer sterilization protocol.
PREPARATION FOR CLEANING
1. Wear protective PPE.
2. Remove the bur if applicable.
3. Operate the handpiece at the chair-side for 20 seconds to purge fluids.
4. Remove contra angle/handpiece or nosecone from the motor/coupler.
5. Wipe the exterior with a cleaning wipe.
CLEANING & DRYING
1. Wash under running water and use a soft bristled toothbrush for 15+ seconds.
2. Clean around the bur insertion hole with an interdental brush for 15+ seconds.
3. Inspect under proper lighting and repeat cleaning if necessary.
4. Wipe with a cloth moistened with manufacturer-approved disinfectant.
LUBRICATION
1. Use only autoclavable handpiece lubricant
2. Apply aerosol lubricant or use a lubrication station.
3. Lubrication process:
A. For manual lubrication – Connect the handpiece to an air source and run it for 20-30 seconds to expel any excess lubricant.
B. For handpiece maintenance station –Process per manufacturer recommendations
4. Wipe off excess oil.

INSTRUCTIONS
Connecting
1. Secure the nose cone to the handpiece.
2. Next, attach the DPA to the handpiece. Make sure it is seated properly.
3. Turn on the handpiece by pressing the power button.
4. Adjust the speed setting as needed using the speed control button on the handpiece.
Note: The speed control button also acts as an anti-roll support, maintaining stability and ensuring the device does not roll off the surface when not in use.
Removal
1. Press and hold the power button until the handpiece powers down.
2. Ensure that any indicator lights or sounds indicating the handpiece is on are off.
3. Grasp the DPA firmly and gently pull the DPA away from the nose cone.
4. Twist the nose cone counterclockwise and gently pull away from the handpiece.
Sterilization and Cleaning
1. Sterilize the nose cone
2. Wipe down the exterior of the handpiece with a hydrogen peroxide based disinfectant wipe.
3. Do NOT sterilize handpiece.
Note: It is recommended to have 3 prophy nose cones per cordless prophy per operatory. (1 in use, 1 in sterilization, 1 in ready for use.)

INSTRUCTIONS
Cleaning & Care
1. Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water to clean the stool's surface. This helps remove dust, dirt, and grime without damaging the material.
2. Refrain from using abrasive cleaners, bleach, or any harsh chemicals, as these can damage the upholstery and other parts of the stool.
3. Periodically check the stool for any signs of wear and tear. Look for cracks, loose parts, or any other damage that might compromise its safety and functionality
4. If you notice any damage, address it immediately. Tighten loose screws, replace worn parts, or contact Burkhart for repairs.
Adjustments
1. Adjust the seat height so that your feet are flat on the floor and your knees are at a 90° angle. This position helps reduce strain on your lower back and improves overall comfort.
2. If multiple people use the stool, make it a habit to adjust the seat height before use to ensure it is set to the most comfortable and ergonomic position for each individual.
3. Most ARETE stools come with heightadjustable cylinders or levers. Regularly check the functionality of these components to ensure smooth adjustment.
