welcome to the
barry arts festival 2014
Bringing inspiration and entertainment to the people of Barry
Welcome to the third annual Barry Arts Festival programme. Three years ago a group of committed and passionate volunteers launched the Barry Arts Festival with a desire to see the arts in Barry given more prominence. This year’s programme is bigger and better than ever and we really think that there is something for everyone, regardless of age or background. I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone who has made this year’s festival possible. Enjoy the week!

navigating the programme To make it easy for you to navigate this year’s programme, all events have been colour-coded and have relevant icons.
youth zone talking points We are delighted to welcome a host of talented and inspiring speakers to present a series of challenging and thought-provoking interactive talks. These intimate sessions will encourage an atmosphere of dialogue between audience and speaker. You are encouraged to prepare any questions beforehand, or just speak up on the day!
workshops This year we invite the community to get ‘hands on’ with us! We are running a series of workshops in conjunction with various art, craft, theatre, writing and music groups. Whatever your age, ability and interests there is bound to be something to engage and inspire you. Booking is essential.
Our youth programme will help 12 to 18 year olds build confidence, work within a team and grow in their talent - all within the context of fun, laughter and friendship. We are offering various workshops to engage mind, body and spirit. All workshops are heavily subsidised so as not to wipe out your summer pocket money!
The talks take place in the Little Blue Deli in High Street and include a hot or cold drink and pastry on arrival. Book early – only 50 spaces available per day.
evening Entertainment If you are looking for fun, inspiration, innovation, music and drama then this is the place for live entertainment. This year we have the best in local and international talent from genres including musical theatre, comedy, cabaret and folk music. All live events are recommended for an adult audience but younger festival goers may enter under parental supervision and discretion. All evening events will take place at the Barry Island Sports and Social Club. Book early to avoid disappointment.
