Information and news for families in Wales Helpline, website & social media Helpline / Information source / News / A platform for parents

FamilyPoint is a news hub, a helpline, an information source and a platform for parents to have their say Why Does FamilyPoint Exist? There are a lot of great services for families in Wales, but from talking to parents and carers we found that many of them struggle on their own without knowing what help is available to them.

How Does FamilyPoint Help? We engage with families across Wales, listen to their needs and give them the info and advice that they require. We don’t replicate what’s out there; we fill the gaps where information isn’t available. We support parents and carers to find the best and most relevant information via our website and helpline (phone, text and online chat).

Who Does FamilyPoint Help?

FamilyPoint Cymru: A ProMo-Cymru development, grant-funded by the Welsh Government

Although we are a universal service for parents, carers and anyone responsible for children and young people in Wales, we specifically engage and reach families from low income households and those considered most in need.

How We Help Families Helpline/Chat/IM

Information

Although it’s now commonplace to find information online, there are times when we’d prefer to talk to someone to get one-to-one support.

We have a specialised family search engine that searches relevant, registered organisations, making it simple and reliable for families to find help.

It’s also sometimes easier for parents who may not have the literacy or skills to search online, or who are battling with a poor internet connection to speak to someone directly. If they call our helpline, our advisors will listen to their problem, help them work out what they need and let them know what help is available to them.

FamilyPoint News We start conversations with families and the topics we discuss form the basis of our news articles and videos. These provide relevant, up-todate and important information for families on nationwide and regional matters. Our impartial news always signposts to relevant services and family information.

Information can also be found on your local county page, which lists: Essential and emergency contacts Key local authority services including Communities First, Families First, Flying Start, Family Information Service, and Supporting People Local services listed under: health & wellbeing, childcare, housing, additional needs, money, schools, parenting advice and things to do

We’re always keen to work with new organisations

A Problem Shared... The voices of families are vital to our service. We use A Problem Shared... as a platform for parents to share issues, provide peer-to-peer support and to raise awareness of some of the challenges that families are facing.

Our advisors and relevant organisations also offer advice.

Working With Professionals We consult with a Project Advisory Board made up of representatives from key family and housing support services from across Wales. FamilyPoint supports third sector and community organisations to promote their services through our social media, news, search engine and helpline, providing a complete information resource for families in Wales.
