Welcome to the Sherman Theatre’s Autumn season. We are delighted to be able to share some very exciting work with you. Our own main stage production of Ibsen’s ground breaking classic A Doll’s House is at the heart of our programme; this play originally shocked audiences, depicting a woman who realises she is deeply constrained and unhappy in her role as wife and mother. Nora heralded a new female agency in modern theatre. This discourse around accepted female roles in society remains relevant now.

Croeso i dymor yr Hydref yn Theatr y Sherman. Mae’n bleser gennym rannu gwaith cyffrous iawn gyda chi. Yn ganolog i’n rhaglen mae cynhyrchiad llwyfan ein hunain o glasur arloesol Ibsen, A Doll’s House; yn wreiddiol, rhoddodd y ddrama hon gryn ysgytwad i gynulleidfaoedd, gan bortreadu menyw sy’n sylweddoli ei bod yn anghysurus ac yn anhapus yn ei rôl fel mam a gwraig. Roedd Nora yn gymeriad benywaidd blaengar mewn theatr fodern. Mae’r drafodaeth hon am rolau arferol menywod mewn cymdeithas yr un mor berthnasol heddiw.

We have some exciting new plays on our stage, too. Our resident company, Cwmni Pluen, present their new bilingual play Ti.Me, and Gary Owen’s Iphigenia in Splott returns from Edinburgh. We co-produce with Glasgow’s Òran Mór to present Happy Hour as part of the phenomenally successful A Play, A Pie and A Pint series.

Mae gennym ddramâu newydd cyffrous ar ein llwyfan hefyd. Bydd ein cwmni preswyl, Cwmni Pluen, yn cyflwyno eu drama ddwyieithog newydd Ti.Me a bydd Iphigenia in Splott, gan Gary Owen yn dychwelyd o Caeredin. Byddwn yn cyd-gynhyrchu gyda’r cwmni Òran Mór o Glasgow i gyflwyno Happy Hour, fel rhan o’r gyfres lwyddiannus A Play, A Pie and A Pint.

At Christmas, we welcome our family audiences with a playful new version of The Princess and the Pea / Y Dywysoges a’r Bysen Fechan Fach, co-produced with Theatr Iolo. On our main stage, we have The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in a vibrant and visual actor-musician production; full of mystery, fun and live music!

Erbyn y Nadolig, byddwn yn croesawu teuluoedd i’r gynulleidfa gyda fersiwn newydd chwareus o The Princess and the Pea / Y Dywysoges a’r Bysen Fechan Fach, cyd-gynhyrchiad gyda Theatr Iolo. Ar ein prif lwyfan bydd cynhyrchiad bywiog a lliwgar o The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; yn llawn dirgelwch, hwyl a cherddoriaeth fyw!

As ever our fantastic outreach work continues to connect with local audiences and to develop new links with them.

Ac mae ein gwaith allgymorth gwych yn parhau i gysylltu â chynulleidfaoedd lleol a meithrin cysylltiada newydd â hwy.

So welcome to our new season. We are here for you, our audience. Come and join in.

Felly croeso i’n tymor newydd. Rydym yma i chi, ein cynulleidfa. Dewch i ymuno â ni.

“What gets me through is knowing I took this pain, and saved all of you from suffering the same.” Following the major success of its first run at the Sherman and subsequent week at the Edinburgh Festival as part of the British Council Showcase, we are extremely proud to welcome Iphigenia In Splott back this September.

Yn dilyn llwyddiant ysgubol ei lwyfaniad cyntaf a’i lwyfaniad yng Ngŵyl Caeredin fel rhan o Arddangosfa’r British Council, mae Sherman Cymru yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi bod Iphigenia In Splott yn dychwelyd ym mis Medi.

Stumbling down Clifton Street at 11:30am drunk, Effie is the kind of girl you’d avoid eye contact with, silently passing judgement. We think we know her, but we don’t know the half of it. Effie’s life spirals through a mess of drink, drugs and drama every night, and a hangover worse than death the next day - till one night gives her the chance to be something more. Effie will break your heart.

Wrth straffaglu i lawr Stryd Clifton am 11:30am yn feddw, mae Effie yn ferch y byddech yn osgoi dal ei llygaid, gan ffurfio barn yn dawel.

Inspired by the enduring Greek myth, Gary Owen’s powerful drama drives home the high price people pay for society’s shortcomings.

Wedi’u hysbrydoli gan y chwedl Roegaidd, mae’r ddrama bwerus hon gan Gary Owen yn amlygu’r pris uchel y mae pobl yn ei dalu am ffaeleddau cymdeithas.

“…Rachel O’Riordan’s superlative production never once lets it drop the pace.”

Deceit, hypocrisy and power lie at the heart of Ibsen’s tale of a family unravelled by secrets. Revived in a full-blooded production by director Rachel O’Riordan (Iphigenia In Splott) A Doll’s House has lost none of its power to provoke.

Twyll, rhagrith a phŵer sydd wrth wraidd chwedl Ibsen am deulu a gaiff ei chwalu gan gyfrinachau. Wedi ei adfywio’n llawn gan y cyfarwyddwr, Rachel O’Riordan (Iphigenia In Splott), nid yw’r cynhyrchiad hwn o A Doll’s House wedi colli dim o’i rym i brocio.

This is the story of Nora, loving wife and doting mother in a middle class household, seemingly content. Until a figure from her past returns seeking recompense, and Nora realises her life is not her own.

Dyma hanes Nora, gwraig gariadus a mam sy’n dotio ar ei phlant mewn cartref dosbarth canol sydd, i bob golwg, yn fodlon ei byd. Hynny yw, nes i gymeriad o’i gorffennol ddychwelyd i ofyn am gymwynas, ac mae Nora yn sylweddoli nad yw ei bywyd yn perthyn iddi.

“Did we have to do this on a quiz night?” “It was his favourite night. Doubled his takings.” The family have gathered in the back room of the pub ready to scatter Dad’s ashes which currently reside in a Nike shoe box.But bitter resentments and long-held grudges might hinder Dad from resting in peace… Following the success of Leviathan earlier this year, Òran Mór’s award-winning series A Play, A Pie and A Pint continues at the Sherman with Anita Vettesse’s darkly comic Happy Hour, which details the petty squabbles and failed aspirations of one family that will resonate long after the curtain call. Does exactly what it says on the tin, a fun evening of food, drink and drama. The perfect post-work pick me up!

Mae’r teulu wedi dod ynghyd yn ystafell gefn y dafarn i wasgaru llwch Dad sydd, ar hyn o bryd, mewn bocs esgidiau Nike. Ond cyn gwneud dim, mae angen ychydig o siarad plaen… Yn dilyn llwyddiant Leviathan yn gynharach eleni, mae cyfres Òran Mór, A Play, A Pie and A Pint yn parhau yn y Sherman gyda chomedi dywyll Anita Vettesse Happy Hour, sy’n trafod mân gwerylon ac uchelgeisiau aflwyddiannus teulu a fydd yn aros yn y cof ymhell ar ôl i’r llenni ddisgyn. Noson sy’n hunanesboniadol; noson hwyliog o fwyd, diod a drama. Noson anffurfiol i godi’r ysbryd!

We believe that the arts have a place in everyone’s life and will be using the award from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to ensure that the Sherman Theatre is accessible for all people and communities.

Credwn fod lle i’r celfyddydau ym mywyd pawb, a byddwn yn defnyddio’r arian a gafwyd gan Sefydliad Paul Hamlyn i sicrhau bod Theatr y Sherman yn hygyrch i bawb o bob cymuned.

“The night was better than we expected. Especially with the food and the drinks. I felt at ease being in the theatre there and definitely would keep on going. It wasn’t very expensive either so I can continue to take my whole family.” A Play, A Pie and A Pint: Leviathan, Sherman 5 member Stephen Price

“No production has caught my attention quite like Iphigenia in Splott, I really enjoyed it.” Iphigenia in Splott, Sherman 5 member

“The best day of my life… wow! I’ve never been to a theatre before” Stick Man, Sherman Families Feedback

“I literally have not stopped talking about this play, which is a brilliant sign. Amazing!” Iphigenia in Splott, Sherman 5 member Beth Clark

“Since being a member I’ve seen a vast range of genres, from comedy, fantasy, dance, and even a Welsh language drama!” Sherman 5 member Shannon Newman Price

The Sherman, with Kevin Dyer and James Williams, are creating a play based on the stories and the people who live in and around the city. They have already spoken to hundreds of shoppers and workers and visitors and dancers and drinkers and musicians and refugees and cake-makers and romantics and grumpy people.

Mae’r Sherman gyda Kevin Dyer a James Williams yn creu drama sy’n seiliedig ar y storïau a’r bobl sy’n byw yn y ddinas ac o’i hamgylch. Maent eisoes wedi siarad â channoedd o siopwyr a gweithwyr ac ymwelwyr a dawnswyr ac yfwyr a cherddorion a ffoaduriaid a phobl sy’n pobi cacennau a rhamantwyr a phobl sarrug.

This Autumn there will be workshops to develop the script - and opportunities to come to the Sherman Theatre to get involved in making this new, vibrant play about the place we live in.

Yr Hydref hwn cynhelir gweithdai i ddatblygu’r sgript - a chyfleoedd i ddod i Theatr y Sherman i gyfrannu at greu’r ddrama newydd, fywiog hon am y lle yr ydym yn byw.

How can you help? Kevin is now looking for love stories. Stories of how you met and how you didn’t; stories of what you did when you first fell into that messy thing called love – and what happened when you fell out.

Sut allwch chi helpu? Mae Kevin nawr yn chwilio am straeon serch. Straeon am sut wnaethoch chi gyfarfod a sut wnaethoch chi ddim; straeon am yr hyn wnaethoch chi y tro cyntaf ichi ddisgyn i’r llanast hwnnw sy’n cael ei alw’n gariad - a beth ddigwyddodd pan wnaethoch chi gweryla.

So…

Art and culture is for everyone. But if you have an impairment or a specific access requirement, often enjoying a visit to a theatre or an arts centre can be more complicated than just booking tickets and choosing what to wear.

Mae celf a diwylliant i bawb. Ond os oes gennych nam neu ofyniad mynediad penodol, yn aml, gall mwynhau ymweliad i theatr neu ganolfan gelf fod yn fwy cymhleth na dim ond archebu tocynnau a dewis beth i’w wisgo.

Hynt is a national scheme that works with theatres and arts centres across Wales to make things clear and consistent. It’s also a resource for anyone who needs specific access information to plan a trip to the theatre. We are part of the Hynt scheme as we believe it offers our customers the very best practice in fair ticketing policy and accessibility.

Mae Hynt yn gynllun cenedlaethol sy’n gweithio gyda theatrau a chanolfannau celf ar draws Cymru i wneud pethau’n glir ac yn gyson. Rydym yn rhan o’r cynllun Hynt am ein bod yn credu ei fod yn cynnig yr arfer gorau oll i’n cwsmeriaid o ran polisi tocynnau a mynediad teg.

volunteering Gwirfoddoli Since January 2014 over 100 people have chosen to dedicate some of their valuable time by joining our team of volunteers who work hard to welcome our audience and deliver excellent customer service.

Ers mis Ionawr 2014 mae dros 100 o bobl wedi dewis cynnig peth o’u hamser gwerthfawr trwy ymuno â’n tîm o wirfoddolwyr sy’n gweithio’n galed i groesawu ein cynulleidfa a darparu gwasanaeth cwsmeriaid rhagorol.

Sherman Cymru is the only producing house in the capital city, and one of Wales’s most important arts organisations. The Company has embarked upon the next exciting chapter for the Sherman with a commitment to an artistic programme that is ambitious, inventive and memorable for our audiences alongside a drive to make the theatre as accessible to as many people as possible. To achieve this vision we need to continue to grow our team of volunteer ushers who are passionate about the work that we curate and produce, and who will provide a warm welcome for all audiences, existing and new.

Sherman Cymru yw’r unig theatr sydd â chwmni cynhyrchu yn y brifddinas ac un o sefydliadau celf bwysicaf Cymru. Mae’r Cwmni wedi cychwyn ar y bennod gyffrous nesaf yn hanes y Sherman, gydag ymrwymiad i gyflwyno rhaglen artistig uchelgeisiol, arloesol a chofiadwy i’n cynulleidfaoedd, ochr yn ochr â’r awydd i wneud y theatr mor hygyrch â phosibl i gymaint o bobl â phosibl. I gyflawni’r weledigaeth hon, mae angen tîm o dywyswyr gwirfoddol sy’n teimlo’n angerddol am y gwaith a gaiff ei lwyfanu a’i gynhyrchu gennym, ac a fydd yn cynnig croeso cynnes i bob cynulleidfa, boed hen neu newydd.

Whatever your age or background, if you feel you’ve got the energy and experience for this challenge, we’d be delighted to hear from you. As a volunteer usher you will receive a great benefits package including ticket offers and a range of training and development opportunities.

Beth bynnag eich oed neu gefndir, os ydych yn teimlo bod gennych yr egni a’r profiad i ymateb i’r her hon, hoffem glywed gennych. Fel gwirfoddolwr, cewch becyn gwych o fanteision, gan gynnwys cynigion am docynnau ac amrywiaeth o gyfleoedd hyfforddi a datblygu.

So, come and join the team.

Felly, ymuno â’n tîm.
