ACTIVE SMALL GROUP TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD

Welcome to the World of B&R

Several decades ago, we pioneered a whole new way to see France and Italy: biking and walking from exquisite hotel to exquisite hotel on quiet country lanes (while someone else schleps your bags) . Since then, Butterfield & Robinson (B&R to the cognoscenti) has been the leading innovator in active luxury travel . We were the first to explore all of Europe, the first to New Zealand, and the first to Asia . Biking and walking trips from a luxe yacht? Yep, we invented that, too . From how we travel to where we travel, we explore every possibility to bring you the very best With almost 60 years of crafting trips, we know how to find rare, quiet and off-radar places where you can make deep new connections—with our local friends, the people you’re travelling with, and, of course, yourself .

Let your journey begin

WINTER ADVENTURES

Check out Norway in our new Winter Collection . See page 12 .

Breaking new ground.

I’ve been at the helm of B&R for a couple years now— a company that’s almost 60 years old, which means I’m still very much the new guy And that’s a label I wear proudly, because even though we have a long legacy of adventure, “new” has always been at the heart of B&R .

In fact, this year we not only have 21 new trips joining our portfolio, we also launched two new collections – Women’s Only trips and Winter Adventures – and four epic Limited Edition trips that venture to some truly unique and untouched places, like the stunning Faroe Islands

What I love most about my job is getting out on the road with our stellar guides and incredible travellers who share my wanderlust This year has been one for the books: from the ancient wonders of Cambodia & Vietnam to the intoxicating charm of Morocco, the sun-drenched shores of Portugal, and the alpine treasures of Slovenia . But the real showstopper? Guiding in Northern Greece . Imagine wild, rugged landscapes, winding roads that feel like they were drawn up just for us, and locals who greet you like family—it’s a hidden gem I want everyone to see

I hope you’ll find some inspiration for your 2025 travels in the pages that follow . Our team is keen to help you experience the world and make some new friends along the way .

Hope to see you on the road,

Mike Scarola in his second office, guiding in Northern Greece. Can you spot him on page 67?

Only B&R

Often emulated, but never outdone.

At B&R, we’ve elevated the craft of planning adventures to an art form . We’ve gone way beyond the norm to create a new standard of travel for one very simple reason: Your time is precious . When you’re travelling halfway around the world, you deserve a journey that doesn’t just delight, but transcends .

Our Guides Our Experience Designers

B&R guides help you embrace spontaneity, delve deep into the local culture, and soak up every experience They are consummate hosts, and some of the most fun and convivial people you’ll ever meet

We help you bond with all our local friends—the best chefs, vintners, organic farmers, historians, architects, artists—and slip you in the back door of everywhere worth going

Our Experience Designers have spent years immersing themselves in their regions, and know every country lane, quiet path and jaw-dropping view like the back of their hand

At B&R, you always go at your own pace

You don’t feel any pressure to stick with the peloton because, well, there is no peloton And the support van? Always there when you need it

Unique Hotels

Our hotels aren’t generic five-stars —we search long and hard for hotels that are experiences unto themselves Our groups are small so we can stay in intimate, one-of-a-kind gems

We don’t just soak up the local culture, we ingest it Grilling squid on the beach with the fisherman who caught it? Dining in an 800-year-old wine cellar with the vintner? That’s more our palate .

Cultural Immersion Fabulous Food & Wine

France

Almost everyone falls for France after visiting . Us?

We picked up and moved there . That’s why we don’t just do “research”—we get the inside scoop from our neighbours while scheduling our next tasting at their winery, and scout hotels by catching up with old friends in their 13thC castle . In short, we don’t just love France; we feel the love .

Bordeaux & Dordogne

In all our years, we’ve sampled few pairings finer than Bordeaux, land of legendary wine with equally lauded biking, and the Dordogne—verdant capital of foie gras . Explore the endless underground galleries of Rouffignac to discover 13,000-year-old prehistoric art Ride right into the heart of SaintÉmilion, and through the lush countryside of Dordogne . Taste the very best of the region at private wine-making and châteaux tastings

Burgundy

This is our second home (and first love), and we’re dying to show you around So we told Ninie—aka Eugénie Weiss, our Beaune-based Experience Designer— to go wild . And boy, did she ever .

In the ancestral home of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, you’ll drink in stunning landscapes, legendary Grands Crus, invigorating walks and rides, Michelinstarred repasts and some truly extraordinary country fare (at local haunts only we could find)

BURGUNDY, FRANCE

Of all the jewels in the Mediterranean, none shine as brightly as Corsica . White cliffs, azure lagoons, ultramarine blue skies and soaring mountains all welcome you to an island that’s been warred over for centuries (and served as the preferred retreat of celebrities since the 1950s) Not quite French and not really Italian either, Corsica’s spellbinding idiosyncrasies make it a poet’s paradise just waiting to be discovered

In the valley of kings, we’ll roll out the red carpet for you You’ll stay in grand châteaux, where each room whispers tales of royalty . You’ll visit Touraine and think you’ve died and gone to epicurean heaven . You’ll enjoy a sumptuous dinner at the stately and stunning Château du Rivau There are centuries of history here We will take you straight to the heart of it—and treat you like royalty

LOIRE VALLEY, FRANCE
Loire Valley Corsica

History comes to life here—and you will too . More than eight decades after D-Day, let a deep appreciation for life wash over you as you ride past white sand beaches and memorial markers Feel the past and present merge as you sip Calvados with local nobility, learning stories passed down through generations, and experience the ethereal beauty of Mont Saint-Michel, whose rising tides and medieval streets transport you to another time

Provence

With its lavender fields, sun-soaked villages, and endless blue skies, Provence’s picture-perfect beauty can seem almost unreal . Maybe that’s why we’ve always been drawn to the lesser-known, hidden heart of Provençal life: games of boules with our friend Bernard, nights in the magical La Bastide de Marie and wine tastings with local friends . So, is the real Provence as good as it looks in the postcards? No—it’s even better .

Normandy & Brittany

Burgundy Walking

Welcome to our second home, where it doesn’t get any better than exploring vineyards and sipping Grands Crus in the region where they were grown . Burgundy first cast its spell upon us decades ago, and today our headquarters in Beaune beats as the very heart and soul of B&R . Dive into classic Burgundian cuisine as our expert friends provide backstage access to the world’s most famous wine region And when it’s time to rest your legs, we’ve lined up a sumptuous haven nestled amidst the rolling Burgundian countryside, the magnificent Domaine de Rymska

Get ready for the Grand Cru of walking trips . Burgundy’s rolling hills and cascading countryside don’t just make for great wine—they make for great walks .

“We

have only ever biked with Butterfield & Robinson and have come to expect the highest-quality guides and experiences. This trip was another wonderful experience and, as usual, exceeded our expectations.”

“A dream place”—that’s how John Steinbeck described the Amalfi Coast And when you see it, you’ll understand why Hike the Path of the Gods Luxuriate in iconic hotels (we stay at Le Sirenuse, just like Steinbeck) Indulge in sumptuous fresh seafood and unique local fare (hello, limoncello) . Dream place? This is more like a fantasy land—but then, who are we to correct a Nobel laureate?

In the Dolomites, the natural splendour feels more like something out of a dream Mist-shrouded mountaintops rise above fairy-tale villages, while overflowing flower boxes, bulbous domes of baroque churches and log farmhouses dot sprawling valley floors . Traverse the lightly travelled pathways, and indulge in a visual feast for the eyes that’s (almost) as good as the actual feast waiting for you at the end of each day

POSITANO, ITALY

Nestled cosily between the Alps and the Swiss border, the Italian Lakes are grandeur and elegance incarnate A lofty claim, we know, but once you’ve laid eyes on this land of perched villas and verdant hills, you’ll forgive us our hyperbole—and indulge in some of your own Here, truly incredible walks lead us to unforgettable, authentic meals at opulent waterfront resorts This is what a “week at the lake” feels like—the Old-World way

We won’t wax on for too long about this gourmand’s paradise—we wouldn’t want word to get out In Piemonte, you’ll picnic in private vineyards, meet warm, down-to-earth locals, explore rolling hills dotted with medieval towns, and experience the thrill of rooting for truffles alongside the Christopher Columbus of truffle hunters Yes, you can bring home the wine But no, you can’t bring home the Italians (we asked)

Between the sun-soaked villages, UNESCOprotected trulli, glorious olive groves, delicious all-organic food, and perfect Primitivo, Puglia has a way of making everything more sumptuous Mozzarella just tastes more delicious when sampled at a cheese-making demo . Cycling is somehow more serene along the azure coast of the Adriatic And a post-ride aperitivo is even more refreshing when sipped in our friend’s private garden

Italian Lakes Piemonte

PUGLIA, ITALY

From the rumbling giant that is Mount Etna (and the earthy vintages that spring from their namesake volcanic-appellation), legends loom large here And so will you, as we take in the very best the island has to offer . Walk seaside trails that finish high in the Mediterranean sky, marvel at the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, and get up close in baroque Noto, the “Ingenious City,” where every corner holds a story waiting to be discovered

Soak up quintessential Italian landscapes and drink in golden-hued horizons in two of Italy’s – and for that matter, the world’s – most sumptuous regions We’ll languidly follow olive-lined paths along the Celle di San Francesco, journeying to bustling Cortona . We offer a seamless route through these exquisite and iconic regions (And by “seamless,” we mean less climbing on buses, more up-toyour-neck immersion )

In a corner of Italy where the Prosecco is local, the pasta is rolled fresh, and the sun-drenched hills go on for miles, you’ll find invigoration, indulgence and inspiration in equal measure Ride from the UNESCO-protected Prosecco hills to the shimmering Lago di Garda, dine with our friend the Count of Vidor at his home (which happens to be a private abbey), and savour grappa in the place it was born

Tuscany & Umbria Walking

Slow all the way down to a gloriously languid pace, and drink in the lush green landscapes (not to mention the Chianti) . Trace the hills of Montepulciano and Val d’Orcia, where ancient paths wind through vineyards lovingly tended for generations . Wander the charming streets of Pienza, then head to Umbria for a taste of local cuisine and crostata with our friend Agnieska Unwind each evening in stunning hotels like the new Casa Newton, the historic Monastero di Cortona, and the thousand-year-old Hotel Castello di Reschio

Walking provides the perfect pace to drink in everything from charming city streets and endless olive groves to flowering meadows and verdant forests .

Sip your way through Tuscany, the world-famous home of Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, then savour the tastes of Umbria, the “green heart” of Italy

Some trips have hotels But this trip has Castello di Reschio, a thousand-year old castle that’s been stylishly restored into spectacular private villas and rooms

We can’t remember, when, exactly, we first fell in love with Mallorca and its quiet (but equally gorgeous) neighbour Menorca—but we’re pretty sure it was somewhere between the cobalt waters, pearly beaches, and stunning views of the sculpted coastline But then, come to think of it, it might have been while staying in gasp-worthy hotels . Straddling the border between France and Spain, many historians believe the Basques are Europe’s oldest civilization, which makes sense, because this feels like a place that’s been perfecting the good life for centuries The people have undeniable zeal, the coast unforgettable views, and San Sebastian has more Michelin stars per capita than almost anywhere else on earth

TRIP DETAILS

In Iceland, nature’s raw power and serene beauty blend seamlessly . Vast lava fields stretch out beneath towering waterfalls, while geothermal hot springs invite you to relax in the warmth of a land sculpted by fire and ice And the Faroes? With its cliffs jutting out of the sea? Its verdant mountains and colourful villages? Off . The . Charts . We can’t wait to introduce you

Home to Viking myths, fairy sprites, and breathtaking landscapes, travelling here feels less like a trip and more like an epic adventure Wander through the ruins of ancient battlefields, marvel at the grandeur of sprawling fjords and ancient cliffs that stretch out into the horizon, enjoy some foot-stomping folk music, and toast friends new and old with an uproarious “Skål!”

Don’t let the postcards fool you Sure, Ireland’s emerald hills and windswept coastlines are woven with legends and lyrical beauty . But the real draw lies in its warm, resilient and unwaveringly charming people Their hospitality and humour are matched only by their love for life, laughter, and the occasional pint of Guinness . (OK, fine—some aspects of the postcards are accurate .)

Let’s get the obvious out of the way first: yes, there’s world-class whisky—and our friends in the Highlands will be more than happy to pour you a dram of Scotland’s finest . But beyond the spirits, there are also rugged landscapes and misty lochs that evoke a sense of wild majesty, ancient castles that stand as guardians of a storied past, and rolling highlands that beckon you to roam

In the land of windmills, tulips, and legendary paintings, your journey will be nothing short of a masterpiece Meander through a landscape shaped by centuries of artistry and innovation, where endless towpaths, bike paths, polders, and dikes crisscross the charming countryside and picturesque towns Much of the Netherlands lies below sea level, but the highs are everywhere .

From the rolling hills and honey-coloured stone architecture of the Cotswolds to the stunning coastline, lush valleys and mountains of Wales, in the UK, timeless landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see . Wander through a world of pastoral beauty where history whispers in the wind; savour local flavours; and let our friends take you deep into the storied land’s natural beauty

Iceland & Faroe Islands

Northern Scotland Walking

Our trip begins in Loch Ness, which is fitting—because this is an adventure of mythical proportions . Embark on a journey through a magical land, where legends of lost gold ships and Viking castles are whispered along rugged shores . Venture through the wild north, the windswept moors and dark rivers, then hop a ferry to the Orkney Islands, where you’ll marvel at the stunning Italian Chapel We haven’t even mentioned the whisky yet, but don’t worry—our friends will be happy to share a wee snifter

Venture to the far north on a walk that takes you past windswept moors, dark rivers and lonely tors—and that’s just Day 1!

The Highlands are home to the finest malt whisky in the world, and our friends at Glenmorangie will gladly give you a tasting

A converted Victorian Manse, Lundies House is tucked away down a lavenderlined driveway just outside the village of Tongue on Scotland’s north coast

Activity Levels

“How fit do I need to be?”

It’s a common question, and the answer is simple: as fit as you are now .

We create trips for all activity levels, offering flexibility so travellers can comfortably enjoy their adventure at their own pace To help you choose the right trip, we classify them by daily distance and terrain difficulty Activity levels range from 1 (occasional walker) to 4 (avid athlete) For bike trips, e-bikes are also available for a boost .

We also understand that preferences vary within groups, so you can always choose to add extra mileage to a ride— or skip it entirely and head to the spa instead (Bliss!)
