Rich Johnson President

Valerie Karg Vice President

Greg Linder Treasurer

Our mission is to promote community participation in leisure activities, learning experiences, and social interactions by providing excellence in service, facilities, and programs throughout the Bensenville Park District. We enhance the quality of life through the preservation of our local history, open spaces and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy.

Bensenville Park District Staff

Nancy Gibbs Secretary

Our vision is for the Bensenville Park District to be an integral member of the cooperative inter-governmental group providing quality services and programming of high impact at low cost to the community. We embrace life-long learning in both recreation and leisure fostered through diverse and unique facilities. By maximizing alternative revenue sources, we are recognized for providing the highest level of services and facilities and consistently exceeding our residents’ expectations.

Administration

Dear Residents,

Recreation Programs & Facilities

I hope you had an opportunity to come out and reconnect with a summer program. We all moved forward with great enthusiasm as we enjoyed once again our water park, our parks and just being around family and friends. We are thrilled to be a gathering place for friends, families and neighbors to get together once again.

We welcome all our families back to the park district. It is with great anticipation of a return to normal operations that we plan, promote and initiate services at the district for the remainder of 2021. Our staff will move forward with caution, and a continued concern for safety, in conducting programs in the future.

The park district continues to plan; we recently completed a five-year capital improvement/replacement plan to ensure your facilities are kept in good condition for all to enjoy. Our board of commissioners continue to look to future trends in leisure services/recreation to determine the path the park district will follow to serve our residents. I would like to take a moment to thank all the workers that took very good care of our community over the last year. We at the district, like many of you, were negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic at work and home. I acknowledge great appreciation to our park district staff that continued to report to work and provide continued services through a very stressful time. I assure you your park district staff are great public servants that have your best interests as a top priority. Stay Safe. - Joseph C. Vallez, Executive Director

Fischer Farm Harvest Fest | Sep 25, 10:30A-6P Details on page 7

Fischer Farm

Fischer Farm is one of the oldest remaining homesteads in the county. The family settled here in 1836 and established a dairy farm. Their success was evident by 1919 when they had the beautiful foursquare farmhouse constructed. This homestead now forms the core of the Fischer Woods Preserve. This preserve is still home to remnant prairie and wetland and provides a glimpse of what the first settlers to the area saw. The land is valued both for these original seedbeds of native plants and for its historical integrity. The nine structures are all connected to the Fischer family and remain on their original foundations. The Bensenville Park District, in cooperation with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, has been working to preserve both the homestead and the native ecosystems while promoting education and recreational opportunities at the site.

Free Admission 16W680 Grand Avenue

Instructors Needed

To find the best classes to choose for your athlete, classes have been broken down to specific levels for the School of Dance and Movement. You can find these listed below. During this time we are making adjustments to help prevent the spread of disease. This includes but is not limited to keeping class sizes smaller, practicing hand washing before each class, and providing at home videos and/or exercises to help prepare students for their next classes.

Level I Classes: Introducing students to the world of dance through classes with more structure and discipline. These classes will develop body awareness and placement. As well as the key points to making a routine and skills, students will learn to develop their individual passion for the sport. Level I classes are intended for 6-9 year olds. Level II Classes: As you move your way through the School of Dance and Movement, you will learn to master your skills as well as develop more challenging ones. Level II classes will be taught at a faster pace and students are expected to show discipline and enthusiasm for the sport they are continuing. Here you begin setting an example to other dancers moving up in the program. These classes are created for 10-14 year olds. Building Block Classes: These classes are made for all levels and intended for strengthening the core classes. You may take building block classes separately, or use them to challenge yourself even more. Created for the dancer who wants to take it a step further, you will find extra practice time and an opportunity to work on your individual skills.

Tumbling will provide athletes an opportunity to learn even more about what they can do with their bodies. Increasing flexibility, strength, and balance are some of the many skills that will improve from taking this class. Learning the basics such as forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels will prepare students to take on even more challenging skills as they continue their education. This is a non-recital class. No class the week of 11/22. Min 3 | Max 9. (LS)

Tumbling II

Tumbling II is for older students who are ready to flip into some trickier material. We will tighten up what you know and introduce the things you’ve been ready to try! This is a non-recital class. No class the week of 11/22. Min 3 | Max 9. (LS)

This flashy, sassy, sexy story of big heels invading a small town shook Broadway and was universally adored by critics and audiences. Now it’s Paramount’s turn to try these shoes on for size. Charlie Price is a reluctant shoe maker. Lola is a fierce drag queen. These two could not be any more different, but when they find common ground in shoes, they see a whole new world of possibilities open up to them that will turn their small town upside down, and just might save Charlie’s failing shoe factory. With a Tony Award-winning score by Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein (Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Hairspray), Kinky Boots tears up the stage and never lets go. The show is at the Paramount and includes lunch, show and transportation. Register by 09/06. Min 10 | Max25. (TG)

Learn to Knit | Scarf

This is truly for beginners, or for those who need a little more help getting started again. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl, stockinette stitch, and to cast off. We will first practice our stitches on a small sample, and then begin with a special small key-hole scarf project. Once you make one, you will want to make another. Just in time for the upcoming chilly weather.

Intermediate Knitting | Hat

In this class you will learn Circular Knitting on Circular Needles, ribbing, the Norwegian cast on, pattern repeats, and how to make a pom-pom. Prerequisite is to already know your knit and purl stitches well, and how to cast on and cast off. The hat is cute and fun, you will certainly be proud of yourself! Make another for a special someone!

Crochet | Shells in a Square Afgan

This crocheted afghan is beautiful and is fun to make. You must have a good knowledge of how to crochet your chain, single, and double crochet stitches. In working this afghan, you will learn how to read and follow a pattern as well as to crochet in a square rather than back and forth rows. It is made with stripping yarn so that there are not too many ends to weave in upon completion. Pick your favorite color stripping yarn, and this will be one afghan that will get many compliments. Afghan may not be finished upon completion of class, depending upon your time to work on at home, but you will have a good knowledge to continue working to finish on your own.
