PENANG AIR ITAM LAKSA Penang Air Itam Laksa, often refer to as Air Itam Pasar Assam Laksa, is an old hawker stall located at Jalan Pasar. It is established since 1955 by Lee Lay Hua and it has been known as one of the best Assam Laksa provider in Penang. Penang Assam Laksa also rated as top 10 yummiest food by CNN as well. Penang Air Itam Laksa is facing brand identity crisis for past two years. Before work on the visual side could begin, BW’s brand strategy team took the lead and initiated an external assessment of their perceptions relative to competitors. Penang Air Itam Laksa brand received a complete visual overhaul. To ensure the visual identity direction resonated with their target audiences, a validation study was done for both the logo and website designs following development.
CASE STUDY:
THE ALLEY CAFE When the founders of The Alley Cafe wanted to launch their new cafe restaurant concept on to a crowded high street, they turned to BW to create an original brand identity and design a branded dining experience that is highly differentiated from the competition. BW’s creative team used our Brand Positioning Strategy to expand and clarify the client’s brief and identify the key values and messages that would connect with the customers. BW developed an environment that retained Penang’s heritage and eclectic nature, but refreshed the brand to give it a 21st century reflection of a 1920’s Penangian bistro.

ABSOLUTE FITNESS Absolute Fitness provide some of the largest and most up-todate fitness facilities on the market at the lowest membership prices. The original identity and communications strategy had served to get the business up and running but was now dated, lacked any sort of personality and needed differentiating to achieve dramatic growth. The club wanted to be seen as the number one choice for value: low cost fitness with high quality facilities. The business needed a brand strategy that not only represented that, but would also appeal to a very wide target audience, from teens to the retired. Following a number of insight sessions with gym managers and directors across all Absolute Fitness sites, BW built a new brand on the grounds that a gym should not be an exclusive facility, but accessible to everyone. A flexible brand architecture was developed and utilised to suit different consumer groups, segmenting the mass target audience and rolling out a more personal approach to sales. The business is now able to appeal to a hugely extensive audience with both their image and communications that have granted unparalleled returns.

BIG FLOOR Big Floor team members were initially hesitant about the changes but, through extensive brand audits and internal interviews with the Big Floor team, all involved began to realize the value of the Big Floor brand. Following the initial research, a national and global quantitative study was done to evaluate Big Floor brands versus competitive brands in key audience segments. Through a competitive audit, global customer research, and internal interviews, interesting competitive gaps were uncovered. It became clear that leveraging these gaps would strongly position Big Floor for the long run. Developing a brand is one thing - ensuring that the brand is expressed consistently across all touchpoints is another challenge altogether.
