As a busy world traveller, you could be anywhere in the world right now, but we caught you right in the middle of Coachella so start by telling us a little bit about how your Coachella week has been so far? Coachella has been a whirlwind of fun and craziness. I’m by the pool right now relaxing before my busy day! Today is the last day of Coachella and Ive been having a blast but I’m also happy it will be over. At 2pm I’m going to get my hair and makeup done and dressed for the festival. One of my favorite things about Coachella is that you can wear your brightest funkiest outfits and as much glitter, braids and color as you want! As you are both working fulltime as a model and being an influencer on the social media, you feel like the 2 parts supplement each other? Or are you Joy at work and then Joy at the social media? As a model travelling and shooting in different beautiful places around the world, it’s easy for me to incorporate brands on set, in my shoots, and when attending events. Good exposure is important for the brands, so when they have a budget they will sponsor me to wear their pieces. I love having a full closet without having to shop! My favorite gifted pieces are always the ones that are hand made by the designer. You can guarantee to see me sporting a unique and crazy one of a kind piece if I get the chance!
You have spend a lot of time travelling, tell us about that journey & how it has influenced you personally? Traveling all around the world has influenced me in so many great ways. The memories I’ve made, the people I’ve met, and the places I’ve seen, have all contributed to who I am today. Getting to experience different cultures has given me an appreciation for all types of backrounds, beliefs, and traditions that many people have. I even enjoy travelling to less fortunate places, because not only can I give back, I can see things in perspective, which is priceless. Where do you feel like ‘this is my home’? I know it sounds cheesy, but home is where my family and close friends are. accent, and the work ethic of NYC. Whenever I get the chance I try to travel with a close friend or family member. This way I never feel far from home. How do you get to find your peace and keep it while having such a busy schedule? I listen to classical music and meditate when I get a chance. Also working out and stretching keeps me sane! And at night I like to finish with a warm bath and face mask. You started The Jade´s Vine foundation, tell us about it and why is it important to you? Jades Vine is a foundation I started to help save and protect endangered species. Animals and plants have always been a passion of mine. And with the popularity and following I have from being an international model, I now have the ability to inform and influence so many more people. 100 percent of donations given to my charity go towards helping stop extinction of our planet’s many amazing species! This is just the start, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Is there a side of you that you rarely show but it would surprise people if they knew? There are many things that many people don’t know about me. I spent 8 years practicing karate, I have 6 brothers and 3 sisters, I grew up on a farm and I was homeschooled! nature hikes, lots of art, cooking, trying new foods and playing my friends in chess or backgammon. What is your all time favourite keep healthy secret? I try to incorporate as many healthy habits as I can into my daily routine. Starting the day out with a quick meditation session and some hearty green juice is a must. When I have the time, you can find me out hiking on nature trails, getting away from the craziness of the city is good for my health and soul! I don’t feel the same if I’m not eating a plant based diet or taking my daily green Vitamins! Right now I’m working on getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Sleep hygiene is so important and I don’t feel my best without my beauty rest! What dreams lie ahead right now? I am currently working on a new clothing line that plans to launch in august of this year. My dreams are inspired by artistic people, unique cultures and beautiful nature that surrounds me. And a huge part of my life includes fashion, so I’m excited to finally share my designs and long time passions! What is the most important that your life has taught you so far? Most importantly you should believe in yourself and never give up. It was so hard for me in the beginning, many agencies turned me away, and many people told me I was, “to short” or “to com-
mercial” or “to edgy”, but I didn’t listen to them. If only then I could have seen the unimaginable possibilities that would lie ahead. The journey and hardships are what make you stronger, now everytime I want to give up I remember how hard I’ve worked and how far I’ve come! We were born imperfect humans, beautiful in every flaw. I try and not forget that or let anyone bring me down! And last what would you say to your teenage daughter if she decided to be an influencer? If had a teenage daughter I would encourage her to influence people in the best way possible. When you have the power to influence your peers, it’s important to be passionate about causes that help and give back to our generation and to the ones to come. So hopefully she will pass down the same values my mother gave to me, parents have way more influence on a child’s choices then you can imagine!
