Esbjerg Trafikhavn The positive development of Denmark’s port to the west has strengthened its position in the traffic-related infrastructure. A lot of people may associate Esbjerg with UK export, offshore activities and the fishing industry. Nowadays, however, the port is an all-round business offering a large variety of services. The progress of recent years is considerable. The annual volume of cargo used to be around four million tons, but today the figure is close to five million - despite the fact that the fishing industry is declining. The progress is due to a decent growth on a broad front and not least the fact that new traffic services have been attracted and consequently the port has acquired an increasingly logistic importance in the European cargo transportation network.

F.v. Søren Clemmensen og Ole Ingrisch Cargo transportation is an important item on the agenda for the future infrastructure and transport by sea is no doubt the solution to a large number of problems caused by the overheated overland transport. In the debate about traffic, transport
and environment, there are unfailing signs that more resources ought to be put into sea transport. This is a challenge for which we will surely be able to offer the right solutions, explains, Søren Clemmensen, Sales and Marketing Manager of Port of Esbjerg. The port is a modern, wellsituated transport centre offering a high level of service. Since 2003, Port of Esbjerg’s activities have increased by five new regular liner services to Iceland , the Faroe Islands, Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Aberdeen among other destinations, and we have no doubt that the services will increase in the years to come.
New Investments We have during recent years invested a three-figure million sum in new infrastructure and suprastructure, among other things in 2 new mobile port cranes, one of which is the biggest port crane in Scandinavia offering a lift capacity up to 150 tons. Inauguration of the Atlantkaj (Atlantic Quay) in the new Sydhavn (South Port) has just taken place. The quay is 250 metres long and the total area covers 30,000 m2 which makes it ideal for ro/ro and project cargo. In late 2008, we expect that Aus-
tralienkaj and Tauruskaj (quays) will be connected with each other which means an increase of 350 metre quay for project cargo (windmills) and rig repair etc. Together with Esbjerg Kommune (the local authorities) we are preparing a proposal to a new harbour road meaning that the motorway will start/end at the harbour. This will separate the port-related traffic and the traffic into town to the great advantage of all parties concerned, explains Port Director Ole Ingrisch. Blue Water’s Activities at the Harbour
Per Jensen and Søren Stougaard Blue Water is today one of the biggest operators in the port of Esbjerg. The company has invested large sums in warehouses, terminals, valuable handling equipment and not least experienced and allround personnel.
Traffic Harbour
The cargo has changed over the last 10 years, and Blue Water has, in close co-operation with Port of Esbjerg, made great efforts to attract new customers and commodities. The activities include all types of vessels and cargo; ro/ro, trailers, containers, heavy equipment, windmills, oil and gas, feedstuffs, gravel etc.

Blue Water’s headquarters is located at Esbjerg Traffic Harbour.
The new Atlantkaj in the South Port with Blue Water’s Ro/Ro-terminal Blue Water is fairly predominant at the harbour scene as our logo is on the majority of the warehouses (10 warehouses covering an area of 25,000 m2 and 30,000 m2 open space) at the Traffic harbour. Here we offer base facilities (office and warehouse) and cargo handling to the companies and subcontractors of the oil and energy sector as well as to the windmill industry. The 30,000 m2 open space at the Traffic Harbour is used as storage for windmills, oil-related cargo
and as pipeyard (storage for pipes to the oilfields in the North Sea). We arrange stevedoring, that is discharging and loading of vessels and containers, project cargo such as windmills and vessels related to

the oil industry including supply vessels, survey vessels and tankers, explains Terminal Manager Per Jensen. .
Sydhavnen (South Port)
The future development in Port of Esbjerg will mainly revolve around the South Port where the 250-metre Atlantkaj (30,000 m2 quay area and platform for ro/ro and project cargo) has just been completed. Furthermore Port of Esbjerg expects another new quay in the same area to be completed at

Oil Discovery At the end of March, the Norwegian oil company, Altinex Oil (the former Denerco Oil) started drilling in the Danish sector of the North Sea. After two months, the drilling operation was declared a success as oil had been discovered. Blue Water has a base contract with Altinex and from the base office in Esbjerg, we arranged coordination of supplies and staff by ship and helicopter to the rig. We are now anxious to see what will happen next.

New Management at Smyril Line Andras Roin, the former chairman of the Faroese shipping line, Smyril Line, is appointed Managing Director of this line. Furthermore the following appointments have been announced: Runi Poulsen as Finance Director and Hendrik Egholm as Marketing
Director (Hendrik has since been headhunted to a job as Managing Director of Shell Færøerne). Smyril Line’s modern ro/pax ferry, Norröna”, which can carry 1500 passengers and 120 trailers, is running between Denmark, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.
Smyril Blue Water is tremendously busy with traffic between the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Denmark. To accommodate our clients’ growing demands for flexible equipment when loading and unloading, Smyril Blue Water has invested in a further 30 trailers. All our new trailers are curtainsiders with sliding cover, making it possible to load the trailers from the back, from the side and by crane
from above. Many of our customers have a need for transport of large, long and heavy loads which are difficult to load into containers or trailers with solid sides. With this investment, we ensure that our customers will have the absolute best conditions both when loading at the manufacturer’s and when unloading at the recipient’s, explains Anders Stenumgaard from the Smyril Blue Water office in Hanstholm.
Heavy Machinery Transport by Sea to Iceland With the super-modern ro/pax ferry ”Norröna”, Smyril Blue Water has a unique way of transporting rolling machinery from the Continent to the Faroe Islands and Iceland. The machines may be rolled onto the ship unassisted so that any lift by crane is avoided and the actual transport by sea happens below deck. This in turn significantly reduces damage to the large and heavy machines. ”Among other things, Smyril Blue Water has transported a large number of machines to one of the world’s largest aluminium factories, Alcoa Fjardaal in Reydarfjordur in East Iceland”, explains Branch Manager Sigfinnur Mikaelsson from his office in Seydis-
fjordur. Further to this, a large number of diggers were shipped for the completion of the large dam at Karahnjukar. The machinery comes from all over Europe and is shipped from Amsterdam/NL, Hanstholm/ DK or Bergen/N.

Smyril Line expands Capacity over the Summer To cope with the demand for freight capacity over the three busy summer months, when the passenger traffic to the North Atlantic Isles is booming, Smyril Blue Water has chartered the ro/ro vessel m/s ”Hoburgen. The vessel - which can take 82 trailers and 50 trucks - is put in on a weekly basis between Hanst-
holm and Torshavn as a supplement to Smyril Line’s own ferry, m/f ”Norrøna”. Due to the increasing volumes, both northbound and southbound, we expect that for the time being there will be a basis for keeping both vessels on the service all year round, says Director of Smyril Blue Water, Bent Rasmussen.

News from the Exhibition Department The spring months have been an incredibly interesting and busy time for our exhibition department. In addition to a large num-
ber of minor exhibitions around the world, we have arranged transport in connection with some very big exhibitions including:

Everybody looks forward to the marine exhibitions in Korea and China this autumn, where the Danish Exporters’ Association will also organise Danish collective stands (Korea 234 m2 and Shanghai 800 m2). Claus Bæk attended the exhibition in Oslo and confirms its extremely large number of visitors. Klaus Bindesbøll and Lasse Reuss were present during dismantling, packing and return loading of the 8 trailers.
This year the Danish Exporters’ Association arranged a collective stand (900 m2) at the leading marine exhibition in Oslo, Norshipping. Once again Blue Water’s competent canteen staff provided meals for the many Danish exhibitors. Our girls have with time become ”fixtures” at the marine exhibitions in both Hamburg and Oslo. 58 Danish companies were represented at the Danish collective stand which attracted a large num-

IELA Conference in Santiago, Chile This year’s IELA Conference was held in Santiago, Chile. Torben Stehmann/exhibition department, Odense and Claus Bæk/Exhibition department, Esbjerg represented Blue Water at the 4-day meeting. 125 members from all over the world participated and as usual we met a lot of familiar faces as well as interesting new faces. Claus Bæk also seized the opportunity to pay a visit to the Chilean member of IELA, DECA Express, which is a major Chilean company with a staff of more than 300 and offices throughout Chile. DECA has been of great help to us in connection with a couple of exhibitions in Chile. The next IELA Conference will take place in May 2008 in Melbourne, Australia.
ESE/SPE, Brussels ESE/SPE is an annually recurrent fisheries exhibition in Brussels with a division for fresh fish and one for machinery. Blue Water arranged transport for 63 Danish exhibitors 22 trucks in total. Smyril Blue Water was represented with a fine stand and a crew of 11 persons (distributed evenly over the entire exhibition period) at the Danish collective stand under Dansk Eksportforening (Danish Exporters’ Association). In addition, Lasse Reuss/exhibition department, Esbjerg was stationed on-site from delivery of the first reefer trailers until the last trailer left Brussels. Rouven Fischer/ Blue Water Padborg came to Brussels to assist with the return loading. The exhibition was a great success. Everybody has expressed their satisfaction with our efforts and we now look forward to next time.

IFFA is held in Frankfurt every fourth year and is one of the most important exhibitions of slaughterhouse machinery. This year we had the pleasure of arranging 25 trucks to and from the exhibition, several of which actually came directly from ESE/SPE, Brussels to Frankfurt. Claus Bæk visited the exhibition and Klaus Bindesbøll and Lars Kristiansen (all three from the exhibition department in Esbjerg) were present at the return loading of the many trailers. It took a lot of efforts to co-ordinate the many trucks within only two days, but luckily everything went without a hitch. The exhibitors we spoke with expressed their satisfaction with the exhibition; many visitors and interesting customers.
6 OTC – Houston Blue Water participated as usual with its own stand at OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) in Houston. The stand, which was part of the Danish collective stand, attracted a large number of visitors and gave us rich opportunity to meet both existing and potential customers. Together Blue Water Houston and Blue Water’s exhibition department in Esbjerg arranged transport of the Danish and the Norwegian collective stands. Furthermore we assisted clients who were represented with their own stand outside the collective stands. The total number of exhibitors reached 2400 and no less than 67000 guests visited the exhibition. Blue Water was represented by Jacqueline Johnston/Blue Water Aberdeen, Jesper Sørensen/ Blue Water Houston and Thomas Bek/Blue Water Esbjerg.

NAFF, the Faroe Islands Once again, Blue Water had the pleasure to arrange transport of the material to the Danish Exporters’ Association collective stand at the North Atlantic fish Fair in Torshavn, the Faroe Islands. Smyril Blue Water arranged customs clearance and unpacking of the goods at the exhibition, together with Blue Water, and packing and return transport after the exhibition. Smyril Blue Water was represented at the Danish collective stand with its own quite big stand manned by Poul Kragesten/Smyril Blue Water, Torshavn, who experienced great activity. A new initiative were introduced and attracted a lot of visitors; Faroese giveaways including delicacies such as air-dried mutton, dried fish and whale blubber. We always look forward to participating at NAFF where we meet a lot of both new and old customers and friends.

Blue Water Sweden Blue Water has now established itself in the facilities at Skandiahamnen in Gothenburg with Björn Jensen at the helm and two assisting colleagues; Janne Ekholm and Cecilia Leinen (see also ”New Employees”). The core activities of the office include road traffic between Sweden/Denmark and Sweden/UK and vice versa in co-operation with our Danish and UK offices. Our Swedish colleagues have spent their first busy months promoting and implementing these services.. Furthermore they have in co-operation with Blue Water Vilnius arranged their first round trip trailer.
After the summer holiday, our Swedish colleagues will be ready to handle any transport job for the Swedish clients as well as assisting our offices around the world with their transport needs to/from Sweden. As from 1.8., we can offer sea freight to/from Sweden while airfreight will be based on our cooperation with Sky Transport. The activities will increase to include road traffic to and from the Czeck Republic in co-operation with Bohemia Cargo and road traffic, full loads, to Germany in cooperation with TWK in Erkrath (the Ruhr) and TTM in Lübeck.

Sales Campaign in France Glenn Ludvigsen/sales department in Esbjerg recently attended a 3day sales campaign at our agent’s - Mory - in Mitry, France. As part of the campaign, an open house was arranged, at which Mory’s agent in Germany and Mory Belgium also participated. Around 50 existing and potential customers came by during the day and were treated to a snack and a drink and given a presentation of Mory in their showroom where they also met Mory’s partners in Belgium, Germany and Denmark. Afterwards they were offered a tour of
Mory’s impressive transport/logistics set-up which includes more than 400 loading platforms and a conveyance system which can sort 20,000 parcels an hour. Mory is one of the biggest domestic distributors in France, distributing parcels for the French Postal Service, among other things, and deliveries to all chemists in Paris. According to Glenn Ludvigsen, there was rich opportunity to learn to know Mory’s sales team and exchange sales leads for future follow-up.

International Football Match at Parken, Copenhagen Blue Water Aarhus seized the opportunity to invite some of their Swedish clients to the international football match, between Denmark and Sweden, played in Copenhagen on 2.6. The group had a fantastic day and both the Swedish and Danish guests were fully satisfied with the result, 3 -3, until the 89th minute when the match was abandoned by the referee. For those who are not interested in football, we can inform that a fanatic (or more precisely drunk) Danish supporter ran into the field to give the referee his opinion of the suspension of the Danish player, Christian Poulsen, due to his very bad behaviour towards one of the Swedish players. Luckily the unfortunate incident did not have any influence on the pleasant atmosphere among our group

Blue Water’s strategy for being ”Best in Town” seems to work. The customer base has now reached a size which makes it possible for us to offer daily, direct departures to and from Holland and Belgium. With 11 Blue Water offices and terminals linked up with an efficient traffic system with integrated data exchange, we control the goods through the entire transport.

We operate with the so-called curtainsiders (loaded from the side), a large number of which is fitted with satellite systems. Some are even equipped with hydraulic lift and electric pallet lifter, enabling the drivers to assist with the handling of major items, for which such equipment is needed. Visiting Newfoundland and Labrador In May, Søren Svennum/Blue Water Aalborg and Jeanette Kjeldgaard/Blue Water Nuuk called on Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Jeanette reports on a fantastic trip with many interesting meetings - mainly with trawler owners with whom we are in daily contact when they land their catch in Greenland. Blue Water is servicing the trawlers, making sure they get the optimal solution in respect of clearance, discharging, issue of documents and further transporta-
tion of mainly Greenland halibut and shrimps to worldwide destinations. Our Canadian clients save a lot of time discharging in Greenland when fishing in their northern quota area. Blue Water Greenland and Blue Water Aalborg have for many years worked closely together on finding the optimal solution for these clients. As the trawlers differ a lot in size, their needs are widely different too. One thing, however, all trawlers have in common, which we also enjoyed in Newfoundland, is their
great hospitality. Another issue, which was accomplished during the trip, were the negotiations with the Canadian authorities/DFO. It has so far been necessary for the Canadian trawler owners to send a person from DFO to Greenland to perform dockside monitoring. This means heavy expenses for the minor Canadian trawlers which again could easily be an economic obstacle to discharging in Greenland. As Lloyd’s agent, Blue Water is now able to offer dockside monitoring.

Caspian Oil & Gas, 2007
The oil show, Caspian Oil & Gas, took place for the 14th time in Baku in June. Blue Water was as usual represented with its own stand at the exhibition which attracted a lot of visitors. The countries around the Caspian Sea are very important for our oil and energy division. We are, in addition to the local activities in Azerbaijan, involved in various major projects in the region and operate a number of regular services to Baku from any destination in the world, including weekly groupage from Western Europe. The ”stand crew” included our colleagues of the Baku office, Oksana Jidkova and Fina Garber, and Thomas Bek from Blue Water Esbjerg. Unfortunately, Kurt Skov and Jason Goh/ Blue Water Singapore were prevented from participating.

Cruise Ship calling at Lorient Blue Water France was appointed sub-agent for Agena Tramp when Saga Shipping’s cruise ship, m/s ”Spirit of Adventure”, called at Lorient on 8.7. The ship carried 213 passengers and 217 crew members were looking after the ship and its passengers who embarked at Barcelona. The ship continued to Portugal, France, the Channel Islands and
ended in Harwich, England after 13 destinations of call. As it was the Ship’s first call at Lorient, an official welcoming ceremony was arranged at which a plaque of the town was presented by members of the trade association and other notabilities of the city who wished to promote the tourist attractions of the region.
Blue Water France had the pleasure of being invited, by MSC France, to the naming ceremony of their new cruise ship ”MSC Orchestra” on 3.5. Magali Neveu and Eliane Plouzane Henault/Blue Water Brest had a pleasant time on board meeting the MSC staff. The ”MSC Orchestra” is built at St. Nazaire Yard and can carry more than 2500 passengers and 987 crew members.

In addition to the daily work in my department, I perform the function of the Company’s safety representative towards the Danish Civil Aviation Administration. I am in this respect responsible for implementation of new security precautions in all Blue Water’s airfreight departments. In the local area we are involved in airfreight of spare parts to vessels as well as personal mail to the ships’ crew all over the world.
It is about being present in the local area and being better than our competitors. In relation to our customers we act as a sparring partner rather than just a supplier. This role often results in our customers’ requests for long-term agreements with fixed limits. Mutual trust is built up and this gives peace and stability for our customers’ and ourselves.

We are service providers and the employees make the difference. ”Road and Rail” The combination of the goods moved to and from Italy is not very different from other destinations. What is different is that we inhouse arrange transport by both road and rail. Furthermore we have established our own office in Milan with a mixed Danish and Italian team. I am very satisfied with our new office building here in Tietgenbyen. The accounts department is checking off the drivers’ reports, collecting money from the debtors, reporting to the management etc. Our workday is always very varied.
Claus Bo Larsen Customs Manager ”Always on the cutting edge” The customs systems of today require that we are constantly prepared with information for customs clearance and export of goods. This makes heavy demands on companies carrying on international trade and on ourselves as consultants. Our advice in connection with customs matters is often all-important for a successful international transaction. The customers may save large amounts of money and frustration if the customs formalities are under control. Blue Water invests a lot of money in training and education, IT, development etc. in the customs field which is absolutely necessary for being able to give the customers an optimal service. My workday is full of exciting challenges. The biggest challenge is to keep overall control of the company’s customs relations including securities, training and education etc.

After a year and a half in the Italian department, I have now moved to the domestic department. Blue Water is an international company with customers and business relations all over the world. It is therefore only natural that we speak a lot of different languages. I myself was born in Iran and speaks Persian and Kurdish in addition to the normally spoken languages Danish, English and German. There is also an Italian girl at the office and French, Spanish and several other languages are also spoken in the company. The entire world is our work area.

Singapore & Dubai Kurt Skov paid a visit to Singapore and Dubai in June to meet some of Blue Water’s major clients there. Kurt also seized the opportunity to meet and talk to the local Blue Water staff and an evening of social
gathering with the staff. In Singapore at a comfortable restaurant and in Dubai on a cruise, on board one of the old dhows (single-masted wooden ship), on the Creek (river dividing the city into two parts).

New Agent in India On 14-15.6, we had the pleasure of signing a co-operation agreement with our new agent in India, FlyJac Logistics. The Domestic Manager, A.V. Ravikumr Ravi, was in Denmark to complete the agreement and the sales strategy. Both FlyJac and Blue Water are privately owned companies and share interest areas. Sea and airfreight will be the core areas of the co-operation. FlyJac is, however, very interested in our reefer activities which we also discussed during our meeting. Another area of interest is our pro-
ject department, as FlyJac operates for some of the leading engineering contractors in India and the rest of the world and would like to make use of our expertise. The visit also included a tour of the port of Esbjerg where Ravikumr Ravi among other things witnessed the handling of windmills which has become a very important import article in India. The sales promotion on the Indian market will be launched in August and we look forward to the future co-operation with FlyJac Logistics.

On 15-16 June, Kaupting Tour Golf Tournament took place at the golf courses of Breinholtgaard and Varde respectively. The facilities were excellent and Blue Water was awarded a prosponsorship and participated with 4 competent players who, via an internal match, had qualified for the Blue Water team. The team consisted of Torben Nyborg (as pro-player), Jakob Thomsen (hcp. 3.4), Lennart Voss (hcp. 10.1) and Thomas Jensen (hcp. 11.1). On the Friday, strong wind and tough very fast greens troubled our

Due to internal pep talk, excellent team spirit and not least cheering from our local supporter, Kim Beier, our team managed to improve their performance in Varde on the Saturday and ended with the best score (116 points) and a shared fourth place out of 56 teams. Jakob Thomsen won the title as the best amateur out of 168 players. Last year, Lennart Voss won the same title so we have great hopes of next year’s tournament.

”Caledonian Challenge 2007” Blue Water Aberdeen was one of the many sponsors of the ”Caledonian Challenge 2007”. But what was the actual challenge ? The participants were to cross Scotland in a kayak, from west to east via the Caledonian Canal, in under 72 hours irrespective of weather etc. The 90-kilometre kayak trip started on
27.4. and if the team failed to complete in under the allotted time period, then the sponsorships would be paid by the team itself. We are happy for our team as they succeeded brilliantly and contributed to raising money for a fine charity purpose; ”Scottish Disability Sport”.

Once again, Fabrice Rolland and Mogens Nielsen (both from Blue Water Brest) took part in the annual tournament, Golf Reflexion No. 4, hosted by our good client Jacky Hamon of Casco. This year, Mogens did not manage to score a birdie, but as usual we had a lot of fun and a great day.
Blue Water Go-cart Race took place for the first time on 19.6. The competition was held on Vandel racing track (an old air field) - a 1000-metre outdoor racing track. On the day of the event, no less than 39 enthusiastic participants showed up (next year we hope to see more female competitors). After some tough heats with 13 racing drivers in each, the competition was decided in the tough but wellperformed final. Whether it was the right drivers who ended in the final is still doubtful as we saw a couple of unauthorized overtakings in the preliminary heats. The winner of this year’s race and
the recipient of the big challenge cup was Lars Skov Christensen/ Esbjerg and coming in second and third we saw Petter Jull/Esbjerg and Ole Haahr/Billund respectively.

Is Blue Water a Great Place to Work ?
At the end of May, Blue Water Rotterdam participated in a football tournament for companies. The team comprised Gerben van Giesen, Danny Twigt, Ruud Langenberg and Serge Geelhoed who received assistance from a few friends and family members. The team managed to beat Den Otter, Barendrecht in the match for the 7th or 8th place.
Once again Blue Water fielded two teams for the annual edition of Denmark’s biggest outdoor 5 a-side football tournament ,”Fanø Cup”. We tried to defend our second place from last year, however, it did not quite work out as neither of the teams succeeded in winning
the first place in their pool, which would have been the entry ticket to the final games. But nevertheless it was a fantastic day for the participants and for once it did not rain. We have already signed up for next year’s Fanø Cup where we expect to take revenge.

We tend to believe that the staff of our many offices thrive in their working environment, that they are happy to go to work in the morning, that they have a mutually good social relationship and that they - after office hours - can look back on a busy but positive day. Whether this is the truth, we have put to the test ...! In October 2006, the management

Based on this group work, a number of recommendations to areas of priority/improment were determined and presented to the

All Danish employees were invited to participate and showed great interest. They were asked to give their opinion of the following issues; trustworthiness, respect, justice, pride and team spirit in relation to their superior and surroundings. We can reveal that we

We have indeed learned something about ourselves and our company. We have started an internal competition for the title of the best workplace within Blue Water Denmark (without use of EPO or other performance-enhancing drugs!).

Jubilees 10 Years Scott Western/Blue Water Aberdeen celebrated his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 4.8. Scott is the only remaining member of the original team from when Blue Water started up again in Aberdeen in 1997. At the start, Scott was placed in-house with BP involved in the Schiehallion project. After two years he moved to the operations department at our Aberdeen office, where he has built up a good knowledge of project cargo and general cargo, and moved up the career ladder and become general manager of the department. On the home front, Scott’s little son, Lyle, who was born at the start of the year, and his wife, Lyne, are in charge. Furthermore the sportsman, Scott, plays five-a-side football and has a respectable golf handicap. Christina Christensen/deep sea department, Esbjerg has been with Blue Water for 10 years on 12.8. Christina started as messenger girl, before she started her apprenticeship - first in the UK department and then the deep sea and reefer department. She has furthermore been round the terminal office and forwarding department before she found her permanent seat in the deep sea department involved in shipment of reefer containers and general cargo to worldwide destinations. At home, Christina looks after the house and nurses her dog, child and boyfriend, Henrik, and in be-tween she also finds time to play handball and badminton. Another colleague who will be ce-
lebrating his 10 jubilee (on 8.9.) is Tony Hayfiled of Blue Water Ipswich. Tony was employed when the office was still in Colchester and he lived within cycling distance. Tony still cycles regularly to and from work despite the fact that he now lives some 20 miles away from the office. Tony was originally employed to control our Moscow service, he then moved on to the CIS department and today he is operations manager of the FSU/CIS department and is also looking after the airfreight of the office. Brian Jeppesen of the Esbjerg Terminal will be celebrating his 10 anniversary on 15.9. If we include Brian’s traineeship from 1990 to 1992, it would actually be his 12th jubilee. The reason why we, years back, decided to reemploy Brian, is a bit vague. Whether it was his qualifications or because he owed his colleagues DKK 27.- , lost at cards, still remain uncertain. Brian is primarily involved in groupage and his voice is familiar to many Blue Water forwarders around the Danish offices. Brian is never afraid of pitching into the job and has often been forced to buy his colleagues Danish pastry due to an excess of overtime on his pay cheque. We look forward to the next 10 years of cheerful mood - at full speed.
Kanan Zeynally/Blue Water Aberdeen (ex-Baku) will be celebrating his 10th jubilee on 24.10. Having taken his university degree, Kanan got a warehouse logistics job with Saipem, before he started in the transportation department of Blue Water Shipping Caspian. Kanan soon proved his talent and was therefore entrusted with important projects as in-house specialist with major clients including BP Shah Deniz and Schlumberger as well as other major projects in Azerbaijan. Kanan is now trying his fortune in Scotland, together with his wife, Zemfira, and his Scottish colleagues enjoy the benefit of his great experience and knowledge of the Caspian region.

20 Years Poul Aarre/Blue Water Aarhus will be celebrating his 20th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.9. Today Poul performs the function of general manager of our Aarhus office and is also overall responsible for Blue Water’s Scandinavian activities. When Poul was employed 20 years ago, his major interests included England and Ireland and his main responsibility was to develop these activities. Poul and his family have also lived in England - more precisely Manchester - where he, for a five-year-period, was the country manager of our UK offices. Dina Voss/accounts department, Esbjerg started as accounting trainee 20 years ago (on 1.10.87) and is familiar with all accounting routines and functions. The department has increased a lot since then and Dina is today part of the international division and among other things responsible for the accounting activities in Brazil and Singapore. Dina is a very helpful, hard-working, dedicated and diligent girl, who rides her bike to work every day (wearing her cycling helmet) no matter whether it is snowing, hailing or lightning. Dina is a sports enthusiast who undoubtedly has the best physical fitness rating - at least in the accounts department.
Unlike her colleague, Tony, Olga Abbott was happy when the office moved to Ipswich as it brought her closer to her home. Every morning we can set our watches by her,

Brian served his apprenticeship with Juhl & Ehrhorn and was in his early days with Blue Water dealing with Far East import for a couple of major clients - with focus on customs and storage. Later on, after his relief period at the office in Sisimiut, Greenland, Brian became part of the agency department in Esbjerg. In recent years, Brian has been busy shipping windmills worldwide for our project department. Brian is also a beer enthusiast and

We see an increase in clients who wish to have only one Blue Water contact attending to all their needs locally, whether it concerns road, sea or airfreight. These activities belong under the forwarding departments which are now better prepared for the many different inquiries.

Summit in Esbjerg A summit meeting (a sort of trade fair) was held in Esbjerg on 30.5. for our local forwarding departments in Denmark and other Blue Water colleagues representing the regular road services across BlueWater’s Danish offices. The purpose of the meeting was to supply information, streamline and hopefully extend the co-operation between our forwarding departments in Denmark and the respective traffic offices. We hope this will result in uni-

Hanne is a skilled office assistant and comes from a job with Post Danmark. 3 trainees started at the Esbjerg office on 1.8.: Kasper Pedersen - 23 years old in the North Atlantic sea freight department. Camilla Grøndahl Christensen - 20 years old - in the airfreight department. Jannie Houkjær - 20 years old - in the forwarding department.
Billund The 48-year-old office assistant, Karin Buhl who comes from a job with Leman, joined our team on 1.4. Karin’s field of activity includes administration and courier. Karin served her apprenticeship with Egtved Kommune and has furthermore worked for Arla for a number of years. 25-year-old Kasper Olesen joined our team as salesman on 15.5. Kasper seved his apprenticeship with TNT Freight Management and has in recent years performed the function of salesman in the company’s relief department in Billund. Kasper will be based at Billund, but will work closely together with Blue Water’s offices in Herning, Kolding and Esbjerg.

On 16.7., Dorthe Bjørnholdt - 40 years old joined the deep sea department looking after administrative matters. Dorthe was previously employed with Esabjerg Godstransport, Roland Munck and DSV. Four new trainees started at the headquarters in Esbjerg on 1.8.: 19-year-old Mette Sørensen in the accounts department.

Per was previously employed with DFDS Transport/DSV for many years. On 1.7., we welcomed a new colleague 19-year-old IT supporter Flemming Kjær Pedersen - in the IT department. Flemming received his training and education at EUC Vest.

Kolding We have taken on Georg Delliehausen - 38 years old - as warehouseman at our export terminal as from 9.3. Georg’s field of responsibility includes loading as well as various co-ordination at the terminal. Georg has several years of experience from his previous job as an export driver. Since 17.4, we have a new colleague - 46year-old Reiner Kuhr - at our logistics warehouse, mainly looking after the storage activities of our client Unicore. Reiner has a long experience from similar jobs in Germany where he is resident. Christian Bebris - 43 years old - forms part of our terminal team since 20.4. Christian comes from Germany, just like Georg and Reiner, and is involved in both export and logistics activities at the terminal. On 1.5., we welcomed 24year-old Jane Skov Jensen as assistant in our forwarding department. Jane received her training and education as a shipping assistant at Jacobsen Bakery Ltd. and was most recently employed as cargo assistant in Billund Airport.

On 1.8., 45year-old Bendt Henrik Lemberg was appointed manager of the domestic department. Bendt served his apprenticeship with Samson Transport where he continued working for 15 years, among other things as traffic manager for Benelux, Germany and UK and later as domestic and logistics manager. Subsequently Bendt occupied a similar position at Combifragt before his latest job where he helped building up the courier company EU-Kurér. 23-year-old Malene Jyrk started in the reception on 1.8. Malene served her apprenticeship at the Hotel Hvide Hus in the town of Køge. Four new trainees started in Copenhagen on 1.8.: 19-year-old Kasper Rasmussen in the Scandinavian department.
As from 1.5., Simon Jørgensen - 23 years old - forms part of the sea freight department. Simon’s field of activity includes Far East import. Simon completed his apprenticeship with East West Shipping at the turn of the year.

On the same day, another new colleague - 42year-old Carsten Verning - started in the customs department. Carsten served his apprenticeship with N.P. Hansen and has furthermore gathered experience in forwarding, customs and logistics from his subsequent employments with S.E.S., ABB, Dæhnfeldt, A. Østergaard, Faber and Kerteminde Klarering. 22-year-old Carina Mark Ryming, started in the deep sea department as trainee on 1.8. 31-year-old Anne Thormose joined the Italian department on 6.8. Anne comes from an administrative position with Nyborg Kommune. Padborg Jan Kristensen - 45 years old - is employed as materials and maintenance manager as from 1.6. As our fleet of trucks and trailers increases, we feel it is necessary to have a person who is capable of repairing and maintaining our equipment. Jan was previously employed with TransAmerica and TTL looking after their agree-ments. Aarhus 24-year-old Lea Kristensen joined the Norwegian department as trainee on 1.5. There is only a few months left of her apprenticeship before she can call herself a skilled forwarding assistant. As from 21.5., Martin Poulsen - 24 years old is employed as forwarder in the Norwegian department. Martin is familiar with geography and the mentality of the business as his past career includes a trucker job in Norway.

Mette has experience from her previous job with Danske Fragtmænd. As from 1.7., Kirsten Pedersen - 41 years old - joined the Swedish department as forwarding assistant. Kirsten comes from a job as service co-ordinator with Scan Vægt Nordic A/S. On 1.8., 18year-old Jesper Ravn started as trainee in the airfreight department. Heidi has a long experience, from the client side, and was most recently employed with Bech Hansen & Studsgaard. 22-year-old Susan Kaas Korabalut joined the Finnish department as trainee on 1.9. 34-year-old Carol Liu (with the Chinese name Liu Yi) is employed as general manager as from 25.6.. Carol has 14 years of shipping experience - 7 years with UNO Corporation, a reefer container line mainly operating between China and Japan, and 7 years with CMA CGM as EB (Eastbound) team manager. Arne Iversen remains overall responsible for our China activities. He will, however, be spending a large amount of time on development of industrial cargo together with Blue Water’s other offices.
Brest 25-year-old Clement Le Tallec, who started in a trainee job in February, was transferred to a permanent employment in the deep sea department on 11.6. In the agency department, we have employed 56-year-old André Le Garrec as from 16.4. Since 1974 , the port of Brest has been André’s destination of work - at Sté le Bras, Scac Jokelson and Agena respectively. Dubai John George 31 years old - is employed as accounts assistant since 20.4. John has accounting experience from his previous job with PWC Logistics in Jebel Ali.

The 38-year-old Dane, Jesper Damgaard (who by the way is the big brother of Henrik Damgaard/Blue Water Billund), is appointed Country Manager for our American branch offices - New York, Fort Lauderdale, Houston and Los Angeles - as from 15.7. Jesper has lived and worked in the USA since 1994 and comes from a job as assistant manager of DSV, Seattle with all-round expertise in sea and airfreight, sales and administration. Jesper lives in Seattle where we do not have any actual establishment plans. He will, however, coordinate the development of the individual US offices in co-operation with the local managers and streamline our American set-up in order to cope with the inquiries from the rest of the Blue Water Group.

Staff Redeployment Bjarke Riber Nielsen was transferred to Singapore on 16.5. after four and a half years with Blue Water Esbjerg, including his apprenticeship in the agency department among other places. On 16.7., Kanan Zeynally was transferred from Blue Water Baku to Blue Water Aberdeen. Kanan has been working in Scotland before, for a short period, but this time his family keeps him company so we expect he will stay for a 2-year period at least. Dennis Sørensen, who formed part of the forwarding department in Esbjerg for a period, will return to Blue Water Transport, Padborg in early September.
