Royal Visit to Blue Water Esbjerg HRH, the Prince Consort - Prince Henrik for short - paid a visit to Blue Water’s Danish headquarters in Esbjerg on 2.6. In the morning, the Prince had arrived to Esbjerg by ship on board the Royal Danish Yacht m/s Dannebrog” together with her Majesty the Queen of Denmark – Margrethe II. In the course of a very tight programme for the day, 50 minutes were allocated for the visit at Blue Water. The red carpet had been rolled out, and, in a manner befitting his rank, Prince Henrik was received on the stairs by Kurt Skov, Gyrithe Skov and Jørn Bøllund. From a clear, blue sky, the sun shone on the golden trim and rows of medals on the Prince Consort’s
admiral’s uniform. In Blue Water’s reception hall, the Prince and his 7-person entourage were received by the Management under the flashing lights from press photographers. Following a short company introduction in Kurt Skov’s office, a tour among the company’s 192 employees started. Moods were high, and the Prince Consort was especially interested when being introduced to the GPS system, as he could spot a Blue Water trailer – purely coincidentally –at the exact moment when the system zoomed in on his French residence Chateau Caix. It was waiting there in case the Prince decided to book a wine transport. The surprise grew
even further, when we mysteriously produced a photo of the trailer parked between the vineyard and the Prince’s chateau. The Prince took the photograph with him. The local press followed us most of the way around the office, and in honour of the occasion, a young pianist from Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium (Academy of Music) played the piano, permanently residing in the entrance hall. The Prince had a short conversation with the pianist, remarking on his repertoire. Time was short, but we still managed everything. Fortunately, we also had time for a relaxed farewell with a cup of coffee, a glass of French dessert wine and our canteen’s own home baked almond
and marzipan cakes. As a reminder of the day, Kurt Skov presented the Prince Consort with a fresh from print coffee table book by local photographer Bent Medvind – showing in pictures the sea and area around the port entrance to Esbjerg. It was a big day for the company and its employees. Gyrithe and Kurt Skov were dinner guests with the royal couple on Monday evening, and were some of the last to say goodnight on board the Royal Yacht, before “Dannebrog” sailed out to anchor for the night. Tuesday, the royal guests had another days programme, visiting the island of Manø in the Waddensea – Denmark’s newest national park.
2 Galaxy III in Esbjerg for Refurbishment
Flare Boom shipped to Holland
Our agency, project, terminal and stevedore staff had a very busy summer month ahead of them when ”Galaxy III”, the biggest jack-up drilling rig ever calling at Esbjerg, arrived at Sønderhavn (the South Port) in early July. A giant coordination job lay ahead of us together with Semco Maritime, who was entrusted with the renovation and upgrading of the 26,500 ton rig, which normally operates in the British sector of the North Sea. ”Galaxy III” is owned by the world’s biggest rig operator,
In April, Blue Water in Esbjerg loaded a large flare boom on board the m/v ”Wilson Tees” for onwards shipment to Holland. (Flare booms are mounted on offshore installations in order to burn any flammable gasses that may build up around the rig). The 122 tonne heavy flare boom measured 65 x 8 x 7.5 metres and was constructed by Dansk Svejse Teknik (Danish Welding Technique).
Transocean. When the refurbishment of ”Galaxy III” is completed, it will be able to accommodate 120 offshore workers. Semco Maritime is in charge of the actual contractor construction project while Blue Water is responsible for the service part covering all services from transportation of the new accommodation module, from Semco’s yard at Fiskerihavnen to Sønderhavn, to 24-hour gangway security and crew change assistance etc.
Transporting the flare boom from the factory to Esbjerg Port was a logistic challenge and the largest ever road transport in Esbjerg. In order to move the large cargo onto the quayside, a hole had to be made in the fence behind Blue Water’s office building. The subsequent loading went as planned and the flare boom was successfully shipped to Holland.

In connection with the Danish Oil & Gas Consortium, DONG Energy’s, invitation to submit tenders for their stevedoring services in the Port of Esbjerg, our Stevedore and Terminal Manager, Per Jensen, proudly announces that Blue Water has won the contract. Blue Water has since 1.7 taken care of handling and stevedoring of DONG’s supply vessel ”Northern Wave” and the ”Esvagt Gamma”, discharging and loading drill pipes and other drilling equipment from the DONG E&P Offshore Base in connection with DONG’s drilling operation in the North Sea. The
supply vessels call at Esbjerg several times a week, and handling normally takes place upon arrival - all the 24 hours including weekends. Per Jensen participates in the rotation togehter with the 7 other Blue Water stevedore foremen who are excited about this new interesting project. A co-operation between DONG E&P Offshore Base and Blue Water already exist; a modern pipe yard (10,000 sqmrts.), established by Blue Water, for storage of DONG’s drill pipes to the North Sea.

5 Years in Central Jutland
Blue Water Padborg
Blue Water Herning will be celebrating its 5th anniversary on 1.9. At the opening, the number of staff was 3 with Mogens Møller at the helm. The office was originally a service/booking office, offering the local customers in region Herning a regular contact person no matter whether it concerned road, sea, air or courier. Blue Water’s strategy about being close to the customers has also in this connection born fruit, as the number of staff from the modest start until now has increased to 12. Today the office is divided into 2 activities, one of which is general forwarding - by road, sea, air and courier - through the various traffic
On 25.2., Blue Water Padborg moved from their old office - ”the Hut” - to new, splendid and bright facilities. The staff had really looked forward to this day, and it was
offices in the Blue Water organisation. In 2004, Blue Water Herning was furthermore nominated traffic office for the Baltic States, Ukraine and Russia. Today a staff of 5 are handling more than 50 trailers to and from these areas on a weekly basis. Mogens Møller and his diligent colleagues have within few years managed to establish contact with many customers and make a name for Blue Water in Central Jutland. As previously mentioned, it is important for us to be close to the customers, to understand the customers’ individual needs and find the ideal solutions. We do not focus on systems - we focus on our customers.
indeed worth waiting for. Everybody is happy and proud of the new office, which has given their workday a boost.
Blue Water Finland
Blue Water has taken over Gran Spedisjon AS, Oslo Gran Spedisjon is a minor niche forwarder with 30 years of experience in transport, freight forwarding, domestic distribution and logistics. We have known the Gran family - Liv-Mette and Knut-Erik Gran - for several years and know that they run a reputable business. After our takeover of Unifeeder Norway’s forwarding activities earlier this year, we needed to have our own establishment in Oslo, and as the Gran family was considering the future and a possible ge-
nerational change, a merger was the ideal solution for all parties and became reality on 1.7. Liv-Mette and Knut-Erik will carry on their work in Blue Water Shipping AS, Oslo - Knut-Erik as dayto-day manager and Liv-Mette will be responsible for financial matters - together with the 4 other former employees of Gran Spedisjon. Due to summer holidays we are not able to bring pictures/details of each individual employee, but will return in the December issue.
At the signing of the contract left to right: (standing) Liv-Mette Gran, Allan Junge/Blue Water Esbjerg, Poul Aarre/Blue Water Aarhus, (seated) Knut-Erik Gran, Espen Gran and Carsten Eskildsen/Blue Water Esbjerg.
Since 2 6., Blue Water is represented with its own office in Helsinki, Finland. With the employment of the two experienced forwarders, Tarja Saari and Ilse Carita Tolmala, we guarantee our customers a quality service on the traffic to/ from Finland now and in future. We know each other’s strong points as we have been working closely together since 2001. In Denmark, Blue Water Aarhus is responsible for the traffic to/from Finland, and during recent years, the activities in Finland have developed considerably, explains Poul Aarre/Blue Water Aarhus. Controlling the activities in both countries with our own hands, we expect an
even better and extended service. With the opening of the new office in Helsinki, Blue Water is now represented in all Nordic countries - Norway, Finland, Iceland, the Faroes and Greenland - an important milestone is reached in our strategy plan. Blue Water takes over the Sea and Airfreight Activities of Otto Hansen & Co A/S, Vejle Blue Water has taken over the sea and air activities of Otto Hansen & Co, Vejle, Denmark as from 2.6. The acquisition happens as Otto Hansen has decided to focus solely on road transport. This new initiative suits our wish to expand our overseas activities. During recent years, we have seen a reasonable, organic growth in this area. The acquisition of existing activities is, however, always an interesting and somewhat faster process. We have known and co-operated with Otto Hansen for many years.
In our experience, it is a serious company, giving quality and service pride of place. This is very similar to the way we work, and we are confident that we can carry on the activities to the satisfaction of both customers and staff. We have decided to divide the sea and air activities. In future, the airfreight staff will be based at Blue Water Billund, and the sea freight staff have moved in with Blue Water Aarhus and are already integrated in the existing departments there.

Reception at Torshavn
SPE/ESE - Fisheries Exhibition in Brussels
A reception was held by Smyril Blue Water on 24.6 in connection with the appointment of our new General Manager in Torshavn and the inauguration of the new office extension. Our new General Manager, John Frandsen, is, however, not new at all. He is 56 years old and formerly employed with Smyril Line and Smyril Blue Water since 1999.
In keeping with tradition, Blue Water was strongly represented at this year’s fisheries exhibition in Brussels - by people from our offices involved in transport for the fishing industry; Padborg, Esbjerg, Hirtshals, Torshavn, Seydisfjordur and Brest. Customers were looked after and contacts maintained, and it was a pleasure to show the Blue Water flag during the successful exhibition. For our exhibition department it was also a great success, as they arranged transport of 26 loads to and from the exhibition. All customers were happy with the cooperation and we are already looking forward to next year’s exhibition.
Many clients, colleagues, family and friends of the ”family” seized the opportunity to call in and see our new fine facilities. The extension was badly needed and has given us twice as much space as well as a large canteen and changing and shower facilities, explains Bent Rasmussen.
Reception in Ilulissat Renewal of Smyril Blue Water’s Reefer Trailers on the North Atlantic On 22.5. a reception party was held at Blue Water Ilulissat to mark the opening of this new office. We are aware that it was about a year after the actual opening, but the opportunity occurred as Ole Ulriksen and René Jørgensen/Blue Water Aalborg and Nana Olsen/Blue Water Nuuk had planned a visit to Ilulissat. According to Ole Ulriksen, the first birthday is a historically
important birthday in Greenland as there, at the age of one year, is a strong probablility that the child will survive. Clients, workmen and friends of the family called in to congratulate and enjoy the delicious food, and it was a pleasure having the opportunity to talk a little business with old and potential clients.
Blue Water Ilulissat has in co-operation with Royal Greenland arranged that the old local Aasiaat bus will end its days in Denmark After many years of faithful service in Aasiaat, the bus was transferred to Ilulissat to pick up workers for Royal Greenland. In future, it will be used in a good cause in a Danish after-school care.
Smyril Blue Water operates a fleet of 150 trailers on the service between the Faroes/Iceland and the Continent. To meet the ever increasing demands for trailer design and standards, Smyril Blue Water has entered into an agreement for the renewal of all reefer trailers in the existing fleet. The trailers are being manufactured to withstand the rough conditions on the North Atlantic. In order to meet all veterinary standards on the Faroes, an internal groove and reservoir for the collection of ”fish” water are fitted. Further to this, all trailers will be equipped with a first-grade
refrigerator, ensuring superior quality and conditions for all fresh and frozen cargo. Delivery of the new trailers will take place this autumn. In the middle of May, 13 new curtain siders were delivered to Smyril Blue Water. Together with the 30 trailers that were delivered in 2007, these trailers make up our dry cargo fleet. ”Quality transport is an extremely important factor to our clients, and with this new investment we are pleased to be able to fulfil their expectations and demands”, says Bent Rasmussen, Managing Director of Smyril Blue Water.
In order to give our customers an even better service, Smyril Blue Water has in co-operation with Smyril Line chartered the RO/RO vessel ”Hansaland” from May to September. The vessel can carry 90 units, and we offer 2 weekly freight departures between the Faroes and Denmark v.v.

the weekend of 17-18 May, our French colleagues checked into the old Hollywood Tower Hotel - and they had a great weekend with lots of fun, good food and sensations.
Whether the choice of destination will fall on Eurodisney again, time will tell. As you can see from the picture, our colleagues had ”a small accident” when taking the lift at the hotel - it fell down 12 floors.

Blue Water France visiting Morocco Every year, the town of Brest and the local Chamber of Commerce seize the opportunity to pay an official call to a chosen port abroad - to build contacts in the country concerned - on board the famous French navy school ship ”Jeanne D’Arc”. After Algiers 2 years ago and Ho Chi Minh last year, Casablanca in Morocco was the chosen destination this year. Fabrice Rolland/Blue Water Brest was pleased to join the delegation and learn more about the area and visit local contacts and the ports of Casablanca, Mohamedia and Agadir. As usual the mission finished with a reception for 1000 invited guests on board the big navy school ship.

body enjoyed the breezy cruise on the bay of Brest in the daytime and the party on board, alongside the quay, in the evening. Our client, potato exporter Gopex, also took the opportunity to invite their business relations from the Middle East, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Spain, Italy and naturally France on a sail, reports Mogens Nielsen/Blue Water Brest, who had the pleasure of being invited on the cruise on board the Dutch sailing ship ”Wytske Eelkje”. Blue Water Brest acted as agent for the Brazilian Navy’s sailing ship ”Cisne Branco” during Brest 08.

The event was of great importance to the whole city, which showed itself in the most favourable way in bright sunshine, when Queen Beatrix named the ship at a ceremony following a spectacular entertainment programme for invited guests. After the naming ceremony, the guests were welcome to take a closer look at the ship before the gala dinner, more entertainment and a giant firework display took place in

Blue Water Amsterdam visits Dubai Since 1997, Airchem Consumables - supplier of aircraft paints, varnishes etc. to many Middle East and Central Asia-based airlines has been using the services of Blue Water Amsterdam. Blue Water Amsterdam has become a hub for Airchem Consumables and consequently we receive large amounts of dangerous goods, which need to be stored, repacked and then delivered to the airlines or reforwarded by road or sea. In order to cope with this flow, our warehouse is of course prepared and approved for acceptance of dangerous goods. In April, Bob Tisserand/Blue Water Amsterdam paid a visit to Airchem Consumables in Dubai and met
with Monney Javadi to discuss the co-operation and future plans. It was a very pleasant meeting which resulted in a closer co-operation between Airchem Consumables and Blue Water, as Blue Water Dubai in future will assist Airchem Consumables with their local distribution. Antoher successful visit was paid at Ras Al Mamzar Ltd., one of the consignees of NRS Trading, for whom Blue Water Amsterdam sends perfumes, classified as dangerous goods, into Dubai every week. In future they will use Blue Water Dubai for their air export out of Dubai.

Transport of Second-hand Beer Bottling Line Blue Water Rotterdam may call themselves experts in transport of second-hand machinery for the brewery industry. As a result of the successful transport to Vietnam last autumn, our colleagues were once again entrusted with the shipment of a second-hand beer bottling line. This time a machine from Bavaria Beer - 1222 cbm consisting of 25 pieces weighing 401 tons. The
heaviest part, weighing 106 tons, was packed and loaded by Wagenborg at the Bavaria premises and shipped on a barge to Antwerp for onward shipment on board m/s ”Richmers New Orleans” to Laem Chabang, Thailand. Time of arrival in Thailand was extremely important as Wagenborg would attend the discharging. Luckily everything went smoothly.

Large Service Contract awarded to Blue Water Singapore Last summer, Blue Water Singapore and 13 other international freight forwarders received an invitation by Keppel FELS Ltd. to bid for an international Freight Forwarding Contract on Keppel FELS’ drilling package equipment. Over the last 10 years, Keppel FELS has awarded approx. 30 projects to Blue Water Singapore, including the shipping of all drilling package equipment and consumable equip-
ment from around the world to Singapore and also including shipping from Singapore to all 20 Keppel O & M yards worldwide. After 11 months and many meetings and negotiations, Keppel FELS decided to award the twoyear contract, covering continents such as Europe, Middle East & Greater China, to Blue Water Singapore. Contract signing took place on 2.6.2008.

Weber-Stephen Nordic entering the Middle East We are proud that Weber-Stephen Nordic have chosen Blue Water as their new partner in Dubai, says Jesper Kassow/Blue Water Aalborg, who has arranged transports for Weber-Stephen Nordic for several years. The first year, 550 pallets will be stored in our bonded warehouse in Jebel Ali, from which all logistics will be controlled. Furthermore Blue Water will be responsible for transport to the 7 emirates and the other Middle East countries that Weber decides to focus on. To build the stock in Jebel Ali, containers will be sent from both Chicago and Nørresundby. This activity will also be controlled by Blue Water. Line Jørgensen (Logistics Assistant), Kenneth Bindslev (Logistics Director), Paw Sørensen (Warehouse Manager) and Karsten Nielsen (Sales Manager) paid a four-day visit to Dubai to investigate the various logistic possibilities. The Weber team visited a number of different transport com-
panies to inspect warehouse conditions and logistic solutions. Fortunately Weber’s choice fell on Blue Water, whom they already knew for their Scandinavian service. Blue Water Dubai’s competent staff was just another obvious advantage. Weber-Stephen Nordic made their entry into the Danish market in 2000 and covers the Scandinavian markets from here as well. Knowing their onward march, our Dubai team will no doubt have their hands full.

Last year, Blue Water secured a contract for transport of a special tanker (FSO - Floating, Storage, Offloading) in sections from Singapore through the Russian river system to Baku in Azerbaijan. In late August, first shipment -13,000 cbm consisting of accommodation blocks, heli deck and other parts - will be ready for departure. Two weeks later, next shipment
will be ready. This time a semisubmersible vessel will transport the two hull strips - each measuring 132.8 m x 16 m x 17 m and weighing 4000 mt - from Singapore to Kerch at the Black Sea, where Russian tug boats will take over and tow the strips through the Russian river system to the Caspian Sea. The production of the modules and preparation of the transports proceed according to plan.

Distribution of ”Yachtsmen’s Marina Guide 2008” Blue Water has again taken care of distribution of the Yachtsmen’s Marina Guide. It is the silver jubilee year of the Guide and this was celebrated with an open house reception in the Port of Nyborg on 1.7. Printer Bent-Erik Johansen has, since the takeover of printing house C. Schønnermanns Eftf. in 1996, been responsible for the Guide. Launy Søgaard Kristensen and his colleagues at Blue Water Odense have in coordination
with Bent-Erik Johansen arranged transport of the Yachtsmen’s Marina Guide - primarily to; the Danish ports, one collective delivery to Poland and delivery to the annual exhibition in Hamburg. As the entire delivery process of the approx. 135,000 books must be completed within 10 working days, coordination is very important, explains Launy Søgaard Kristensen after the task was accomplished in the middle of May.

Cup Final - EFB / Brøndby, Copenhagen There were plenty of supporters that is for sure....... From Blue Water Esbjerg alone, 5 busses (3 with clients and 2 with staff) came to cheer on their local heroes, EFB (Esbjerg Football Club) in their second attempt, within recent years, to win the cup at Parken (Copenhagen Stadium). Unfortunately they did not suc-
ceed this time either. Unlike last time against Randers 2 years ago, this match was, however, a fantastically exciting match which ended 3-2 to Brøndby. Moreover, we were extremely satisfied with the goal scorer of both EFB goals, Søren Rieks, whose father is a forwarder in our domestic department in Esbjerg.
Friendly against Kvik A/S On 31.3., another crowd-puller, was arranged at Kvik Hockey Arena in Herning, as Blue Water Herning had accepted the challenge of a friendly against Kvik A/S, major client and kitchen manufacturer, at their request. Kvik’s team consisted of players from their logistics department, including warehouse and office staff. Blue Water Herning had to
get reinforcement from Blue Water Aarhus and Esbjerg and a couple of regular Kvik drivers. After an hour’s ”social play” on the ice, the evening finished with sandwiches and a couple of beers. ”By the way, Blue Water won the match 6-5, and I am sure, Kvik will soon want a return match”, predicts Mogens Møller.
Saturday 17.5., 60 sea and airfreight colleagues from our Danish offices met for a workshop in Esbjerg. The purpose of the meeting was to have a broad presentation of all our products and services - and naturally a welcome opporutnity of social gathering.
Blue Water Esbjerg recently received a visit from a young, German travelling journeyman, dressed in the old traditional cos-
tume, a ”kluft”. It is an old tradition dating back to the Middle Ages - young craftsmen travel the world to perfect their skills and support themselves by working. According to the rules, they cannot go home for at least 3 years, and one day’s walk as a minimum should end the tour. Ulrich Schäfer is a skilled bricklayer who has been on the roads for almost 4 years and visited as far-away places as South Africa and Namibia. He is now staying in Ribe for a short period, and being interested in terrazzo, he had heard about our impressive floor. The 2004 floor award has indeed not passed unnoticed in certain circles!
Competent Forwarders with Certificates Our professional body, Danske Speditører (Danish Forwarders’ Association) has for many years offered an education based on modules. After completion of four modules, the student is entitled to call him/herself Bachelor of Forwarding. Many of our forwarders have studied individual modules, and we are proud of being the Danish forwarding company with the highest number of Bachelors. The education comprises subjects such as forwarding economics, forwarding law, sales & service and a road transport, sea freight or air freight module. The lastmentioned modules are fully up to the standard of the internationally
recongized IATA/FIATA Introductory Course. Our latest 2007/08 graduates are Anne Skov/Esbjerg (sea), Mette Lindhardt Sørensen/Aalborg (air) and Lasse Nørgaard Wolff/Esbjerg (sea). When we start our own academy this autumn, we will still consider some subjects of the Forwarding School as fundamental basic expert knowledge. As previously mentioned, Blue Water Academy is a wider Bachelor of Commerce degree, qualifying the holder for project graduate studies and for earning so-called ECTS points.
Euro-parliamentarian paid a Visit to Blue Water’s Headquarters Anne E. Jensen (MEP) paid a visit to our headquarters on 29.4. She is elected by Venstre (the Liberals) and is a permanent member of the Committee on Budgets as well as the Transport Committee in Brussels. It also turned out that Anne E. Jensen is familiar with transportrelated problems. We were in particular pleased to learn that she ap-
preciates the forwarders’ important present and future logistic role. She is well aware that we, being the forwarders, control the transports from door to door and that we decide the transport routes. We have noted her mail address, in case we should need a ”friend” inside the gigantic EU.

Paul Farelly and his new Scania 500 contribute to a high delivery service on the Irish market, reports Alex N. Olesen of the Ireland department in Esbjerg.
As for Blue Water, the number of participants in Vestkystløbet 2008 (West Coast Race) set a record with 126 runners. On 8.6., the temperature in Denmark was high and so was the number of spectators. Lots of people had a great time with their colleagues and friends, eating grilled sausages etc. This annual event has almost become a traditional festival for many Esbjerg companies.

Jubilees 10 Years On 7.9.1998, Steve Earp joined Blue Water Manchester as a trainee, straight from school. Ten years have gone by and Steve is still with us, no longer a trainee but the kingpin of our Swedish export service amongst various other duties. It feels like only ten minutes since he joined us a a shy young man. Steve is now an old married man and appears to spend much of his spare time rebuilding his house with the help/advice of his wife, Claire. We hereby congratulate Steve on his 10th jubilee. ”Always in the mood for a party” must definitely be Heidi’s philosophy. Heidi is and has always been one of the driving forces behind parties and social events at our Kolding office. She is always ready to lend a hand and get the party going. Heidi does, however, possess the ability to distinguish between work and pleasure and is always concentrating 100% on performing the imposed duties in accordance with the existing strategy and morale of the company. She originally started doing invoicing in our Benelux department and successively moved to the reception and became responsible for the administrative matters of the office. Today Heidi is head of the administration department at our Kolding office - including reception, sales secretariat and accounts. 53-year-old Michael ”Forever Young” Marker of the Esbjerg Terminal will be celebrating his 10th jubilee on 1.10. Over the years, Michael has primarily been involved in the MI Denmark activities, for which Blue Water is responsible for the physical handling in connection with the mixing and pumping of chemicals and drilling fluid to offshore clients. Michael was already familiar with these kinds of activities from his 20 years’ employment with Halliburton. According to his colleagues, Michael’s negative point is his ability to win the go-cart race every time the boys go out - but otherwise he is popular and easy to get on with. In private life, Michael has no doubt met his sole mate, Annette, who shares his interests for motor bikes and fashion wear. Sanne Andersen will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Wa-
ter Kolding on 1.10. At the turn of the millennium, Sanne was, as forwarder in the Benelux import department, from the start influential with her straightforward manner. When a decision was made, it was put into practice immediately and on we went to the next job. After two child births, Sanne has found a new position for herself at the office as central figure in all efficiency promoting and implementation processes. As head of the strategy group in Kolding, member of the nationwide staff network, member of the trainee mentor group and last but not least the newly implemented superuser education, Sanne keeps her finger on the pulse in the widespread Blue Water network. Kirsten Skjødt started with Blue Water Aarhus on 1.10.1998. Kirsten has been part of the team almost from the very start at Viengevej in Risskov (a suburb of Aarhus), where she was responsible for all accounting. Before she joined Blue Water, Kirsten worked as an accountant at company Albert Nielsen. She is very popular with her colleagues and is characterized as a quiet and steady person and always very helpful. Kirsten was a single mother for her two children, Louise and Nicolai, until she met Kent and suddenly had a family consisting of 8 members. In her spare time, Kirsten takes lessons in flower arranging, and every summer the family goes to Turkey for their holiday. 3 girls from our accounts department in Esbjerg will be celebrating their 10th jubilees this autumn: Birgitte Grønning Laursen and Susanne K. Hansen on 1.9. and Pernille Vistisen Skærlund on 19.10. They all applied for the same job and they all ended up getting a job, and moreover they were all born the same year and knew each other - a strange coincidence. Birgitte started with the gigantic job of entering all BWS DK supplier invoices, a job which is now done by the individual offices. Today Birgitte is also taking care of part of the Esbjerg accounting functions and sees to it that the ”boys” of our agency department is up to date with the accounting part in relation to the transport. Birgitte is married to Jørgen and has two teenage children, Louise and Jesper. She is the captain of the family and has always many irons
in the fire. Susanne’s field of activities has always included overheads and responsibility for the administrative part of the telephony, fixed-line network, mobile and staff broadband network as well as tax. In 2006 she was appointed manager of the accounts payable department with a staff of 7. Susanne lives together with Jan and has a son named Thomas. She is always cheerful, but also very honourable - the rules must be obeyed. Pernille is accurate with everything - including her job and her front garden, which is cultivated even in the winter. Pernille is on maternity leave until January with her second child Frederik. The family also consists of big sister, Julie, and daddy Jan. Today Pernille’s responsibilities include all Danish BWS suppliers, statements of account, VAT and repayment of VAT from abroad. On 1.10, two members of our warehouse team in Baku will be celebrating their 10th jubilees - Sakhib Isayev and Nasim Gasanov. Sakhib is a fork-lift driver and a very faithful and disciplined team worker. He loves football and his family - wife and a son, 20 years old, who has successfully returned from the Ranks of the Azerbaijan Army, and a daughter, a 13-yearold schoolgirl. Nazim is a packer and the proactive leader of the packers’ team. He is technically well-educated, accurate and disciplined and takes great interest in computers and technical novelties. Nazim has a wife and two children - a son and a daughter who both go to school Svetlana Nikolayeva joined our Baku team as secretary and receptionist on 5.10.1998. In 2000, she was promoted to coordinator of the airfreight department, playing an important part in connection with both import and export. Svetlana is in particular good at relocating personal effects and highly recommended by expats and other clients. Svetlana is a very open and cheerful girl who lives with her mother, her son, Erin, and her beloved dog, Lucia. She loves animals, reading books and hiking. Arnbjørn Madsen will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with
Smyril Blue Water in Tórshavn on 1.10. Arnbjørn originally served his apprenticeship in a bank, but is today attending to our import clients. He is married to Maiken, with whom he has 2 sons and a daughter. We know that Arnbjørn has at least 2 other passions, which nobody in the whole world can change. The first one is the Liberal Party on the Faroe Islands and Faroese self-rule - and he is always ready for a little quick discussion regarding this issue. The other one is Manchester United - and every time they win, everybody at the office will know for sure - so Arnbjørn has been very satisfied for the last year or so. Back in October 1998 (13.10), Shahin Ismaylov became part of our Baku team as supervisor of the road transport department. Shahin is dealing with customs clearance of shipments arriving by trailer to Baku Customs Post. Starting as trainee, he has acquired a wide knowledge of import and export procedures and loading/unloading of project cargoes as well, not least due to his participation in project jobs, such as BP, Saipem, Sedco Forex etc. Shahin is very competent, knows a lot about customs rules, and is always ready to share his knowledge with new employees. At the home front, he is a devoted father of two little girls and loves cars, angling and dancing. Inam Abluch started with BlueWater Baku on 28.10.1998 as freight forwarder in the road freight department. Through his former job, involved in container traffic, he had been in close contact with Blue Water Dubai, and from 2001 until the end of 2004 he accepted the challenge of working for our office in Dubai, arranging transports to Baku. Back in Baku again, Inam is busily involved in projects for CSC, Bos Shelf and Saipem. Inam is characterized as diligent and accurate and he is very popular and respected among his colleagues. His interests include tennis, chess and his young wife, Ramida, and two charming daughters. Kenneth L. Kristensen will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.11. Kenneth is an all-round forwarder who has taken an active share in developing the road traffic to/from Portugal, Spain and Poland. Today he is looking after the daily traffic in
11
Jubilees co-operation with his colleagues at our Warsaw, Esbjerg and Copenhagen offices. At work, Kenneth is always calm and has the administrative matters under control. When it comes to team handball, his temper might, however, rise a bit. This is still one of his main hobbies besides his two children, Malte and Oliver and his wife, Rikke. 10 years ago (4.11.1198), Larisa Cherkasova started as assistant in the road freight department of Blue Water Baku, involved in a project for Schlumberger, where she was responsible for invoicing and filing. Larisa is still an essential part of the project team, working closely together with Inam. Larisa is married to Nikolay and has two grown-up children. Nana Olsen Heilmann will be celebrating her 10 anniversary with Blue Water Nuuk on 1.12. Nana joined our airfreight department after many years with Grønlandsfly (the present Air Greenland) and has therefore obtained a large knowledge of the Greenland freight systems. She is today the airfreight department’s ”first lady” and a breath of fresh air to the office with her smile and laughter. Furthermore she contributes greatly to the social teamwork. Nana is married to Ujarak, by whom she has two grownup sons. The whole family enjoys sailing into the Bay of Nuuk to their cottage to catch trout, which they smoke, and shoot reindeer. Nana is an expert in Greenland cuisine, and choir singing and Dolly Parton also take up a great deal of her spare time.
20 Years Back in December 1988 (1.12.88),
at the opening of the Odense office, Jørgen B. Larsen was employed as terminal manager and will therefore soon be celebrating his 20 anniversary. After 10 years in Odense, Jørgen and his wife, Kate, decided to move to the capital of Jutland, Aarhus, and he got a job at our Aarhus terminal. Jørgen is well-known among his colleagues for his great helpfulness and Funen temperament, and the terminal would not be the same without him. Jørgen and Kate recently bought a flat under brighter skies in Turkey which they visit as often as possible. The following 5 persons were all part of the original team which made up the Odense branch office as of 1.12.1988: Ronald Hansen completed his apprenticeship in 1978 and has during his entire career only worked for two employers, however, always as part of the same team. At the age of 53, Ronald is no doubt the most well-known transport salesman in Funen, and through his large network and cheerfulness, he continuously creates new contacts and good client relations. Ronald is married to Dorthe and has four children, Christian, Trine, Andreas and Sarah. Ronald devotes his free time to his family, house and garden and playing golf. Lea Madsen’s transport career started in 1973 when she was employed as assistant in Inter-Service’s seed department. This special niche remained Lea’s speciality for many years, until she in 2007 was transferred to an administrative role in the continental department in Odense. Lea is married to Bent and the mother of two children. Tommy and Joan. When she is not at work,
Lea is taking care of her family, house and garden and not least her grandchildren. Per Offersen received his training at a timber merchant, but decided to change line and became an apprentice forwarder in 1981. Per has just turned 50, and has in his forwarding career always been involved in sea freight and achieved great expertise in this field. Since 1988, Per has performed the function of manager of the sea freight department in Odense, but has just been transferred to key account for special cross trade and project clients. Per has a wife, Vibeke, and two children, Emil and Simone, to whom he devotes a large part of his free time. His other interests include golf, cycling, and handball. From the start, Claus Bo Larsen made customs clearance his special field, which it still is. A long customs career has resulted in a job as Blue Water’s overall customs manager. A job, he performs with great enthusiasm and specialist pride. Furthermore Claus Bo has a keen sense of humour, for which he is notorious and loved, not only inside Blue Water but wherever he goes. He is also a very active referee, the top referee in Denmark and also in the top of FIFA’s and UEFA’s international ranking list. This very interesting part-time job takes him to fashionable football arenas around the world. Claus Bo is married to Vibeke and the father of 3 children, Nicolai, Nicoline and Jonathan. At the start of Blue Water Odense in 1988, Søren Nielsen was department manager, but has in more recent years performed the function of general manager of the office which today has a total staff of 70.
Søren started his career in 1978 as a trainee with shipbrokers Svane and Gjørding, Kolding, where chartering, stevedoring and ship’s clearance were the main activities. Then followed 2 years in the transport department of Lemvigh Müller & Munch, Copenhagen, before he joined Inter-Service, Odense. For many years, Søren performed the function of forwarder in the Italian department of Blue Water Odense in addition to being overall responsible for the company’s Italian activities and parallel with his managerial position. Today Søren is still overall responsible for these activities in addition to the company’s customs activities. Søren is married to Kirsten, who shares his interest for golf. Having played football for many years, he has now finally put his boots on the shelf.
Silver Jubilee On 1.9., Brigitte Jegou (also called Bibi) will celebrate her silver jubilee in Lorient, where the accounts department for our French offices is located. This was Blue Water’s first location in France and Bibi has been based here through all the years. She is responsible for all accounting which she controls with a very firm hand - almost as if it was her own money. Bibi’s liveliness and good mood are much appreciated by her colleagues just like her contribution to the success of various staff events. On the home front, she is the proud mother of two daughters, Maxime and Charlotte. Despite her scanty size, Bibi coaches her daughter Charlotte’s basketball team, and this year the rumours have it that they finished on the second place. Well done Bibi!
Another ”Outstanding” Transport for Dolly Parton Last year, Blue Water Aalborg and NNR Global Logistics arranged the transport in connection with Dolly Parton’s Europe tour. It must have been a success as Dolly Parton Tours chose the same partners for their 2008 Europe Tour. First concert was in Stockholm, where Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen of Blue Water Aalborg was assisted by our partner, Sky Transport, on both sea and airfreight.
The Dolly Parton Tour team attaches great importance to personal contact and service. Therefore we hope, with this year’s successful transport for Dolly Parton Tours, that it will result in other inquiries from the show business. We know for sure that Dolly Parton will recommend us to others. Blue Water has a fine concept and network ready in case other possibilities within this transport niche
should appear on the scene. In return for a well-performed job we were given a number of free tickets to the concerts in Stockholm and Viborg. Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen and Maria Heick/ Blue Water Billund were both invited backstage. ”What a great experience to meet the grand little lady”, says the proud Dolly fan, Kenneth.
