Blue Water Shipping is now holding an A-Class Licence in China
China is in many ways a very interesting country - in respect of its history, culture, beautiful scenery, gastronomy and people - and not least because of the commercial aspects. This is also the reason why many Danish companies have successfully established production and offices in China. Blue Water wants to secure a foothold in the Chinese market and has therefore aimed at the ultimate registration for foreign freight forwarding & shipping companies - an A-class registration.
With this registration we have, not only towards our customers, but also towards the Chinese Authorities, shown our sincere interest in doing business in China - not just now, but in the long term. We already experienced this at the registration of our new office in Shanghai, when the director of Shanghai Administrative Bureau for Industry & Commerce wished to have a personal meeting with us to hear more about our company and business plans in China. This was a surprising and encouraging involvement from the Chinese Authorities - and extremely valuable for us, as Chinese ”guan xi”, meaning good relationship, is of the utmost importance for doing business in China. Our office in Shanghai is now ready for any freight enquiry, as we have our A Class Licence meaning we are legally registered according to the Chinese Authorities’ requirements and conditions for foreign companies. We can now take on any job within the fields of transport, lo-
Blue Water opens its second Office in China – Shanghai The rapid development in the Chinese wind turbine industry and our increased involvement in this specific field have led to the decision to open an office in Pudong New District, Shanghai. We have been active in China for many years and been represented by our own office in Qingdao since November 2003, primarily involved in global reefer shipments. General sea and airfreight on the other hand are taken care of by our longtime agent, Cargo Services, through their 28 offices in China. Blue Water Shanghai will be benefitting from Blue Water’s wide experience and broad knowledge in wind turbine logistics as well as our worldwide expertise in project solutions for the oil & gas industry. The office is manned by experienced people – both Chinese and Danish – with special expertise in loading, discharging, survey and project transportation. It will be managed by Arne Iversen, who has a longtime background with Blue Water from e.g. the Middle East and most recently from Blue Water’s first office in China – in Qingdao. Today, the Chinese wind turbine industry is the world’s largest with more than 70 manufacturers and a large number of foreign companies having established production in China. Many of these companies are now looking to export to neighbouring countries as 2
well as Europe, the USA, South America etc. In this connection, Blue Water will be offering our assistance based on expertise gained from many years of involvement in the transportation and handling of wind turbines in Europe.
gistics and shipping - by road, sea and air - and we can book directly to the shipping lines and invoice Chinese and foreign clients directly. Furthermore we have permission to carry out survey, tally and similar maritime jobs.

Wind Power Asia, Beijing Again this year, Blue Water Shipping was part of the Danish collective stand at the Wind Power Asia exhibition in Beijing from 23 - 25 June 2010. At the exhibition, we introduced our new office in Shanghai specializing in transport solutions for the wind turbine sector among others. Furthermore we had the pleasure to present our latest project video produced to give an insight into Blue Water’s capacity in this specialized field of the freight forwarding business.

Visiting Sinovel, Beijing Carol Liu/Blue Water Qingdao and Arne Iversen/Blue Water Shanghai have been busy visiting clients in China related to the wind turbine industry. It is quite a job in a huge country like China with frequent flight delays, flight cancellations, heavily trafficked cities and no less than 70 different wind turbine manufacturers. According to BTC Consult Aps, the manufacturers installed, in total in 2009, wind turbines able to produce 13,750 MW, which is the highest volume measured for one single country for one year. The world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturer in China, Sinovel Wind Group, installed in 2009 wind turbines with a capacity of 3,510 MW, which makes Sinovel
the third biggest wind turbine manufacturer in the world. Sinovel is also behind the installation of China’s first offshore wind farm, Shanghai Donghai Bridge Offshore Wind Farm, which was inaugurated on 8.6. During Offshore Wind China, Sinovel introduced a new 5 MW offshore wind turbine, and they also participate in international exhibitions, e.g. in Dallas and Stockholm. Sinovel was among the companies that recently received a visit from Blue Water, and Arne Iversen recalls an interesting talk about the company’s transport needs – both domestic and worldwide.

DWEG Reception On 31 May 2010, Danish Wind Energy Group China (DWEG) arranged a pleasant and interesting reception in the Danish Pavilion at World Expo 2010. DWEG is part of the Danish Exporters’ Association. Blue Water participated with 3 representatives from our offices in Shanghai and Qingdao together with many other people from the Chinese Wind Turbine Industry. Among the interesting speakers were
Siemens Wind Power and Eksport Kredit Fonden as well as a feature on ”Wind Energy Development in China” by Morten Søndergaard and ”the Story behind the Danish Pavilion & the Little Mermaid” by Christopher Bo Bramsen, former Danish Ambassador to China. All the participants enjoyed the sight of the Little Mermaid, who had travelled the long way from her waterfront location in Copenhagen, her home since 1913, to be part of the 2010 World Expo. This is
the first time ever that the Little Mermaid has left Denmark. She will be staying in Shanghai for 8 months before returning to Denmark, when the world exhibition closes. Many Chinese visitors took pleasure in seeing the Little Mermaid and in particular appreciated that this is the original statue. But as Christopher Bo Bramsen, who has been one of the principal organizers, noted: ”You cannot send a copy to China”.

Status 2009 – and the First Quarters of 2010 Looking back on 2009, Blue Water has also had a year in which we - following the onset of the financial crisis in the end of 2008 - stopped and had to think twice before launching new and exciting activities and initiatives. It has been a ”year in waiting” for new and better times not just for us, but also for our clients, colleagues and business partners all over the world. The crisis has affected virtually the entire business, and has forced companies to adapt to the new conditions. Among other things, in Blue Water the consequences have been staff adjustments and a wage and recruitment freeze. These circumstances have forced us to view many things in another light and perhaps apply our resources in a better way. This process, though no doubt a healthy one, has been a hard one for the people affected by it. Fortunately, in the course of the year, we have felt improvements and that the adjustments have had an effect. Blue Water has primarily been affected in Denmark and countries in which our activities are based on traditional transport of industrial cargo, whereas those of our offices which handle niche activities, such as oil, gas, wind energy, project cargo and food products, have been largely unaffected by the crisis. Looking back in the pages of our Blue Water News magazine, we see many interesting assignments worldwide and find that we have definitely not been dormant, but rather have had to run even faster. However, on closer observation, we note that we have had no room for large purchases or investments. New projects have been planned for a long time, such
as new facilities in Holland, where Blue Water Barendrecht moved to new, badly needed facilities in the spring. One of the few places in which we took a calculated risk was in Malaysia with the establishment of an office in Port Klang. This was an investment for our Singapore branch, which had been busy in Malaysia for some time and now has staff on location to develop business. Another branch was opened on the Danish island of Rømø, under direct management of our agency department in Esbjerg. This enables us to offer our services if/when offshore wind farms are erected in the German sector of the North Sea. At the turn of the year, the Blue Water Group employed a staff of 820 in 49 offices in 26 countries worldwide.
Result In 2009, the result for Blue Water Holding A/S was a profit of DKK 20 million (EUR 2.7 million) before tax and a turnover of DKK 2.6 billion (EUR 349 million). The result is extremely satisfactory, especially considering the crisis and the fact that costs of DKK 40 million (EUR 5.3 million) in total were covered in connection with changes to the organisation and a large loss from our Faroese activities due to less cargo as a result of salmon disease. As per 31 December 2009, the equity capital amounts to DKK 122 million (EUR 16.4 million).
2010 We take an optimistic outlook on the year to come - supported by the Q1 report. Many small signs indicate that we are steering our way out of the crisis and we are acting accordingly. Extra office space has been long overdue at our headquarters in Esbjerg, but due to the crisis we have postponed an extension which was already planned before the crisis. Instead, we have erected temporary pavilions, which have done little in respect of beautifying our main entrance. But ……….. hope is at hand. As from the summer of 2011, our headquarters is leased to DONG Energy on a long-term contract, and adjacent to this office, we are constructing a new headquarters of app. 10,000 sq.m. on Cort Adelers Gade 1 - an address which will have a familiar ring to old Blue Water staff and clients. This is the exact address which was originally occupied by us in the port of Esbjerg on 31 August 1973. Other forward-looking initiatives include a newly opened office in Shanghai, China, and a future establishment in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Both offices will be offering activities related to wind energy, oil and gas. The crisis has by no means resulted in Blue Water falling asleep! I am happy and grateful for the 2009 result and for the first quarters of 2010 – and thank all of you for your efforts.
Floating Hotel in Esbjerg This spring, Blue Water was appointed agents for M/S “Wind Solutions”. The ship was chartered as floating hotel for Siemens in connection with the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm project. M/S “Wind Solution” called at Esbjerg to mobilize tool containers and other equipment for the project. The ship is registered in London and owned by company C-Bed BV, which is managed by Monjasa Fredericia. Ship details: Loa 122.77, Beam 19.20, Max draft 5.3, 150 cabins.

Blue Water opens an Office in Rio de Janeiro Blue Water has been active in Brazil for many years, in fact since the late nineties - in particular within the transportation of food products. This was also the reason for the establishment of our office in Sao Paulo in 2003, as many of the decisionmakers are located here. When it comes to the oil and energy activities, Rio de Janeiro is the ideal place of representation. We are therefore in the process of establishing a new office here to become involved in the transport and service in connection with activities related to the oil and energy sector. The new office will be working closely together with Blue Water’s offices in the USA – in particular Houston – Singapore, Malaysia, the Caspian Sea, the Middle East, China and around the North Sea. Brazil has huge reserves of oil and gas along its more than 7000 km coastline and
is therefore a very important actor within this industry. Likewise, the country has its eyes open to wind energy - and last but not least, there is a very fast growing demand for transportation of building materials etc. for the forthcoming World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. One of Blue Water’s major key clients is the shipyard Keppel Fels in Singapore. This relationship was built up 12 years ago, when we fixed our major contract with Keppel FELS for heavy-lift transportation of a jack-up rig from Singapore to Baku, Azerbaijan. Keppel Fels established its own shipyard in Brazil 10 years ago named BrasFELS located in Angra dos Reis, which is close to Rio de Janeiro. With a staff of 6500, the shipyard is buzzing with activity for large projects related to the oil and gas industry. In May, Kurt Skov visited Rio together with Jason Goh from Blue Water Singapore
and Mogens Nielsen from Blue Water Brazil and France who is responsible for our activities in Brazil among other things. Tiago Bitiu from Blue Water Sao Paulo is now placed in Rio de Janeiro to take part in the practical matters in connection with the establishment of this office. Furthermore, the small delegation team seized the opportunity to meet BrasFELS and Danish Companies in Rio: A.P. Moller-Maersk, Lauritzen Offshore Services, MacArtney Underwater Technology, Viking Life-Saving Equipment as well as important customs brookers.

Agreement between DONG ENERGY and BLUE WATER SHIPPING Dong Energy has made a long-term lease agreement with Blue Water Shipping for the takeover of Blue Water’s headquarters (2500 m2) at Esbjerg Trafikhavn (Traffic Harbour) together with a new warehouse (1,000 m2) to be built next to the office. The office will be manned by staff from DONG E&P and DONG Power Renewables, involved in Oil & Gas Exploration and Production respectively as well as Wind Power. DONG Energy and Blue Water already enjoy a cooperation in Esbjerg in connection with discharging and loading of supply vessels to the North Sea and covering warehouse facilities and pipe yard. Blue Water is going to build a new head office (app. 10,000 m2) on the adjoining site at Esbjerg Trafikhavn, where several
old warehouses will be removed. When Blue Water moved into its present head office in 2005, the number of staff was 75. Our new headquarters is expected to be completed in the early summer of 2011 and will be housing more than
200 employees. Subsequently, DONG will move into its future headquarters in Esbjerg and in doing so have office, warehouse facilities and pipe yard centralised at Esbjerg Trafikhavn.
Pulling down old Warehouses Can one have feelings for an old house? Is it possible when the house is in a miserable state and over the years has been renovated beyond recognition? Being a firsthand witness when the bulldozer performs the demolition job, old memories start appearing. It is hard to watch the metal dinosaur eating its way through the walls just leaving the framework on the ground. But there is method in the madness! 10 metres from our present domicile, an architectural beauty will rise from the ashes – a new headquarters for Blue Water. Bigger and zmore impressive than the one we have today and at the very address – Cort Adelersgade 1 – where we rented an office from DLG from 1973 to 1981. This time, however, we can assure you that Gyrithe and Lillian will not be paint-
ing the door frames brown, the toilets in psychedelic colours, neither will they sew orange-coloured curtains. Likewise, Kurt and Jørn will not put up pale brown wallpaper and palisander panels. 2 minutes of silence please!
For nostalgic reasons, our new address ought to be Cort Adelersgade, but for practical reasons – so that people can tell the location just by looking at the address - we have decided on Trafikhavnskaj 7.
By the way, you can follow the construction live on our website: www.bws.dk - We are updating the image every 10 minutes.
Aker Well Service – New Base Client in Esbjerg Aker Well Service has moved into Blue Water’s Offshore Base on Esbjerg Harbour. On 6.5., Aker had an open day (technical day), and Managing Director Ole Petter Thomesen – an old acquaintance from the Norsea Base in Stavanger – and Jarle Gudbrandsen gave a presentation of Aker and their services. The presentation was followed by an interesting demonstration of their equipment, which is used in connection with offshore drilling. It was a great afternoon 6
with plenty of opportunity to talk with old and new contacts involved in the oil and gas industry in the North Sea. Aker’s local representative in Esbjerg, Svend Høst, informs that since the establishment in Esbjerg, they have won several contracts in the Danish sector.
In addition to the activities in Esbjerg, Blue Water is also in contact with Aker Solutions in other parts of the world – among other places in Port Klang, where Aker has become a very important client to us, and in Norway and USA as well.

Interesting Contract with Danish Defence Early this year, Blue Water submitted tenders for Danish Defence’s partial agreements for transport worldwide and deployment in connection with international operations. We are therefore proud to announce that we won the partial agreement for transportation, primarily from/to Northern America and from/to the rest of the world apart from Europe and the North Atlantic. In the bidding round, we were up against 8 other major Danish and foreign shipping companies and consider the nomination a great recognition, as the agreement places heavy demands on both administration, quality & safety and an efficient network. The annual freight turnover is approx. DKK 5-6 million – DKK 1-2 million of which covers sea freight. After the nomination we have paid visits to the three primary offices in connection
with the transportation – Billund, New York and our agent Manitoulin in Toronto – and subsequently, audits have taken place on all three locations. The visits were successful, and Danish Defence has approved all three offices – without reservations – says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen, our General Manager in Aalborg, who is responsible for the contract. Blue Water Billund will be responsible for air freight and Blue Water Copenhagen for sea freight. The contract runs from 1.1.2011 to 31.12.2013 with option for a one-year extension. Signing of the contract took place during a meeting at Danish Defence in Ballerup on 29.6.2010. Heavy demands are placed on facilities, staff and procedures. We will therefore get busy obtaining approvals for offices and staff as well as preparing procedure descriptions for the individual activities.

New Agent in Canada During a meeting, with Dwayne Hihn of Manitoulin Global Forwarding, Canada, on 3 May at Blue Water Copenhagen, we agreed on a future cooperation between Manitoulin and Blue Water Denmark. Manitoulin has during recent years acquired a number of minor freight forwarding companies in Canada, including Paltainer who has a long-standing
cooperation with BW Barcelona and BW Dubai among others. Paltainer is geared towards any kind of transport including project cargoes and food products. Manitoulin Global Forwarding was established in Canada in 1960 and has 66 offices in Canada, a fleet of more than 3000 trucks and 250 service centres in the USA.

Project Cargo from USA to Vietnam In April/May 2010, Blue Water Singapore was awarded the contract for transport of 2 rig cranes (700 cbm each) as well as 12 jacking legs (2,000 cbm) for jack-up rigs being built in Vietnam by our good client Ezra Marine Services at their yard in Ho Chi Minh – Saigon Shipyard. In close cooperation with our office in Houston, Blue Water Singapore made all arrangements from manufacturer in the USA to consignee in Vietnam, including trucking, crating of the cranes, loading, discharging, insurance etc. To reduce the transit time, a chartered vessel was used for direct sailing from the USA to Ho Chi Minh. Due to the draught of the vessel, transshipment of cranes and legs on to two barges was performed at anchorage on arrival in Vietnam. The entire transshipment process was handled successfully together with our Vietnamese partner, SME Logistics, in just 11 hours and one day ahead of schedule. For this project, Blue Water combined the knowledge from our local offices, providing our customer with a full-package solution from manufacturer to consignee.
Windpower 2010 - Dallas The annual ASEA Windpower exhibition and conference took place in Dallas, USA from 23-26 May. This year, we had decided to participate with our own stand manned by colleagues from Blue Water Esbjerg – Michael Rud, Per Jensen and Kurt Skov - as well as Søren Thorup Nielsen from Blue Water Los Angeles. Furthermore Lars Kristiansen from the exhibition department in Esbjerg was present as the exhibition department had arranged transport for a number of the Danish exhibitors on the Danish collective stand. There are no doubt great potentials on the American market, according to our colleagues, who were surprised at the
size of the exhibition - more than 1300 exhibitors with both outdoor and indoor stands, which attracted 20,000 visitors during the four days.

in order to personally meet our contacts there and strengthen the cooperation.
1,000 ton Anchor Cable At the end of April 2010, Blue Water Singapore loaded 1,000 tons of anchor cable on a heavy-lift vessel for one of our major clients, Franklin Offshore International in Singapore. Loading of anchor cable is not a simple lift on and lift off operation - it takes a lot of experience in order to secure a smooth operation. If the cable is not handled correctly during the loading operation, it may be very time-consuming to discharge, as it is impossible to prevent the cable from moving during the ocean transport. Blue Water has good experience from handling many shipments of anchor cable, anchors and other mooring equipment. On this particular shipment, we loaded an additional 10 heavy duty wire reels on deck, which required carefully planned weight spreading.

Visit from Pinto Basto The Portuguese shipping company with proud traditions, Pinto Basto, has a very big shipping and transport department in Angola. On 4.5., we received a visit from the Director of their Lisbon office, Frederico Pinto Basto, and Director Bernardo Soares, who is in charge of the company’s extensive activities in Angola. It was a very interesting and pleasant meeting, during which we discussed the possibilities of a closer cooperation – not least in connection with the extensive oil and energy development in Angola, but also transport of food products from South America/Brazil to Angola in particular. Naturally we also talked about football. Portugal and Denmark were in the same group qualifying for the World Cup in South Africa. Denmark was number one in its group before the Portuguese world stars – but certainly not without an immense amount of luck in the two matches
they played against each other. Frederico was very proud of his Benfica membership – however, after the less fine placing in this year’s tournament, Bernardo cut him down to size.

OTC 2010 - Houston part in the erection of the stands before the show and the dismantling afterwards. It was an interesting and fruitful week, during which we met many familiar faces and made a lot of new contacts, says Esben Flinker Nørgaard of Blue Water Houston. We hereby wish to thank everybody who showed an interest by visiting our stand – and not least thanks to those who joined us on the Wednesday for ”Happy Hour”. We now look forward to repeat the great success on next year’s OTC.
Again this year, Blue Water was represented at one of the world’s biggest oil & energy conferences, OTC (Offshore Technology Conference), which is held every year in Houston, Texas in the first week of May. This year’s number of visitors reached 72,900, and with a sold-out show (52,700 m2), OTC 2010 broke the record. Despite the success, there was a gloomy atmosphere due to the accident in the Mexican Gulf, where 11 people had lost their lives when the drilling rig “Deepwater Horizon” burned and sank only one
and a half weeks before the exhibition. This was naturally the topic of conversation around the stands. Blue Water was widely represented at the conference by colleagues from Blue Water Houston as well as representatives from Denmark, Scotland and Brazil. As usual, it was an extremely busy week with meetings and various other events in connection with the conference. Blue Water is proud to announce that we also arranged the transport of the Danish exhibitors’ stands and part of the Norwegian. Furthermore we played an active

Oil Show in Baku
Blue Water Azerbaijan is very proud to announce that it has secured a contract with the French oil company TOTAL E&P Absheron B.V. for the provision of international freight services, FOB services at point of origin and destination (Azerbaijan and other countries), local deliveries, customs clearance and warehousing. The contract runs for the next 2 years and covers first part of the project – drilling offshore in the Absheron oil field in the northern part of the Caspian Sea. TOTAL is optimistic about finding commercially viable reserves, so that they can continue their long-term successful activity in the Caspian region. Blue Water is looking forward to project start later in the summer, says Fina Garber from Blue Water Baku.
From 1-4 June, the annual oil show in Baku took place, this time in the brandnew and impressive exhibition centre. In keeping with tradition, Blue Water had its own stand represented by people from the local Baku office as well as colleagues
from the offices in Aberdeen, Aktau, Tbilisi and Denmark. The exhibition is a fine occasion to see new and old clients and for our regional offices to meet and discuss the future strategy.

Smyril Blue Water in Torshavn received Delegation from Esbjerg A delegation from Esbjerg – Mayor Johnny Søtrup, Port Director Ole Ingrisch, City Manager Otto Jespersen and Trade Promotion Officer Tom Nielsen – paid a 3-day visit to Torshavn to meet the Mayor of Torshavn, Hedin Mortensen, among
others. They also found time to visit Smyril Blue Water’s office, where we – after a tour of the harbour, our warehouse and newly furnished office – had a pleasant talk and a cup of coffee.
Smyril Blue Water has at its disposal the freight capacity of ro/pax ferry “Norröna”, which sails the North Atlantic between Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark on a weekly basis. With a capacity of 130 trailers and a service speed of 21 miles, “Norröna” provides the fastest freight service on the North Atlantic. To increase focus on sales and development on the Iceland market, Smyril Blue Water is establishing an office in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Smyril Blue Water is already represented by its own office in Seydisfjordur. To manage the office in Reykjavik, we have employed Steingrimur Sigurdsson, who has a broad and detailed knowledge of the market from 20 years in the freight forwarding business in countries such as Norway, Holland and of course Iceland. Agency Meeting in Beirut, Lebanon As newly appointed agent for van Uden Ro-Ro, Kurt Skov and Niels Tolstrup were invited to participate in van Uden’s ro-ro agency meeting in Beirut in May. Van Uden – with headquarters in Holland – has a ro-ro service connecting Immingham, Bremerhaven and Antwerp with various East and South Mediterranean ports. The service primarily carries new and second-hand vehicles, various forms of machines and project cargoes. The agency meeting in the very interesting town of Beirut, oozing history and business, offered plenty of opportunity for Blue Water to meet representatives from the other agents and start a direct dialogue with these, and via a cooperation, increase the volumes that Blue Water can bring into the service.
LTL Service between Dubai and Doha For decades, the two neighboring countries the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar have enjoyed very close trade connections, resulting in a tremendous volume of all types of cargo being transported from UAE to Qatar by road, sea or air. Furthermore the UAE is the primary transshipment point for Qatari imports, and Qatar has now the second highest GPD in the world (and is holding the world’s third largest gas reserves). Since the establishment of our office in Doha in October 2008, it has been our ambition to establish an LTL service by road for general cargo from Dubai to Doha. We are proud to announce that as from 17.5. this has become reality. The service has fixed, twice weekly depar-
tures from our warehouse in Dubai - Sundays and Thursdays - to our warehouse in Doha. All kinds of general cargo will be accepted, and door/door solutions are available for larger shipments on request. Experienced GCC drivers are used, and Blue Water staff are handling the bookings and documentation at both ends, i.e. our customers just have to deliver the cargo to our depot (collection can also be arranged) and can be assured of twice weekly departures.
Visiting Doha For the first time, Jannie Kjær from the accounts department in Esbjerg joined her colleagues, Hanne Bärthel and Dan Nissen, on a visit to our Doha office. This is Jannie’s travel report: “We flew from Billund on Tuesday 8.6. The purpose of the trip was to meet our colleagues at Blue Water’s office in Doha. It was a relatively short visit, only two days, but in the long term, worthwhile. The intention of such a trip is to build a closer cooperation between colleagues and create a better understanding for each others’ responsibilities – and it is also a motivation for our Doha staff to have visitors coming from the head office in Esbjerg. We get to know each other on a more personal level, which is important as the daily contact is usually via mail or telephone. Dan spent the time together with our General Manager in Doha, John Daniel, calling on existing as well as potential clients. At the office, Hanne and I went through the economy part together with Gilna Viju and followed the daily working routines of the office. Wednesday evening, it was time to invite all our colleagues in Doha out for dinner at an Indian restaurant, where we tried different specialities. Indeed a very interesting trip.”

Visiting the Port of Hamburg On 14.6., a Blue Water delegation – Laila S. Teilhof and Susanne Holm Hansen/Blue Water Copenhagen, Jannie Houlkjær/Blue Water Aalborg, Kenneth Falkesgaard Hansen and Kenneth Sindahl/Blue Water Esbjerg – and 10 enthusiastic customers paid a visit to the container vessel “COSCO EUROPE” in Hamburg. “COSCO EUROPE” is one of COSCO’s biggest container vessels and
one of the largest calling at European ports. The vessel was built in 2008, is 350 metres long, 46 metres wide and has a capacity of no less than 10600 TEUs. After the interesting visit, the delegation watched the very disappointing World Cup match between Denmark and Holland at a Tyrolean restaurant in Hamburg while drinking draught beer and eating Wiener Schnitzel.
Change of Partner in France To strengthen road traffics on the southern part of the European Continent, Blue Water Shipping has entered into cooperation with Rhenus Logistics in France. The change in France is a logical development in the relationship with Rhenus, as Rhenus and Blue Water have worked together on the Spanish market since 2007. Rhenus France is represented with major offices in 93600 Aulnay sous Bois (Paris), 69780 Mions (Lyon), 49124 St. Barthelemy (Angers), 33521 Bruges (Bordeaux), 31620 Castelnau, Gevrey Chambertin (Dijon) and Champigneulles (Nancy) among other places. In France, transit time for national distribution from terminal is 24/48 hours, with option of track & trace for all shipments. In addition to road traffic, Rhenus France offers sea and air freight. With sales in excess of EUR 2.7 billion, Rhenus is currently one of the leading European trans12
port & logistics suppliers in Europe. In recent years, Blue Water has seen a rapid development on the French market in terms of increased shipment volumes, more roundtrips of our own as well as several new clients.
Blue Water has known the staff of Rhenus France for years as extremely reliable and service-minded people, who have every interest in a further development of the traffic. Furthermore, having the same partner on the southern European market creates synergies.

Reception at SubCPartner Recently, one of our good base facility and transport clients, SubCPartner, held a reception at Esbjerg Traffic Harbour in connection with the completion of the topside module for the TRYM project for Mærsk Oil. “In 2006, we moved into the Blue Water Offshore Base to be in the centre of the offshore environment, where we can see
our clients and network every day”, say two of the founders and owners Tonny Klein, Chairman of the Board, and Managing Director Lars Wigant. SubCPartner have 2500 m2 production facilities at their disposal right on the quayside of the Traffic Harbour, and the company offers a wide range of services to the wind, oil and gas industry.

Retirement
On board “Clipper Adventurer” in Copenhagen - left to right: Niels-Erik Lund, Niels Tolstrup and Kurt Skov
The management company, International Shipping Partners/ISP, with head office in Miami, Florida operates no less than 20 cruise ships under the management of the Founder and Chairman Niels-Erik Lund. Blue Water’s offices in Copenhagen and Fort Lauderdale, Florida provide services to ISP and arrange shipment of machinery, hotel equipment and food products to many interesting destinations worldwide, including the special Antarctic continent and Greenland. On a lovely summer’s day, 24.6., ISP had invited their business relations for lunch and a tour of the cruise ship “Clipper Adventurer” which was moored at Langelinie in Copenhagen. From Blue Water, Niels Tolstrup and Kurt Skov participated in the reception.
Friday 18.6., was Jean Jacques Le Nen’s last working day after 16 years as customs broker at our Brest office. It was the first retirement in Blue Water Brest’s history. During the day, a very nice reception was held for colleagues and the Brest Port partners. In the evening, all the colleagues gathered for a nice farewell dinner with Jean Jacques, who will now leave Bretagne together with his wife, Genevieve, and move to warmer and sunnier skies in the South of France. It was a wonderful and memorable evening, however, emotionally a bit sad.

Intro-Days On 7 – 8.6., 12 newly employed Blue Water colleagues from all our Danish offices were assembled in Esbjerg for a two-day introduction. The Introduction Days are always a comprehensive input of Blue Water history, strategy, business activities, future development and about being an active player on the Blue Water team. Marianne and Ditte have both put their experience into words. Marianne Høxbroe employed at Blue Water Odense: Two days in Esbjerg with a lot of information, new colleagues and interesting stories. Although I have worked for Blue Water for 9 months, I still learned a lot that I did not know about the company. It was in particular interesting to hear about
the company’s history and development. It was also good to have a face put to the many colleagues I work together with and hear about in my working day. It is a great way to welcome new employees to a big company. Ditte Maria Wammen: I had only been employed for one month when I participated in the Introduction Days. After the 2 days in Esbjerg, I feel that I do not only belong to Blue Water’s Aalborg office, I have a feeling that I am part of something bigger. The introduction of the entire organisation and the tour of the port of Esbjerg gave one a good knowledge of the Blue Water Group, and the informal tone used in the organisation is just fantastic.
Blue Water Copenhagen participating in the Bridge Race On 12.6., 15 brave colleagues from Blue Water Copenhagen’s Runners Club participated in the Bridge Race across Øresund in record time ….or so was the plan! Some of the runners had not tanked enough fuel before start and some just used more than expected. But there was no doubt about the aim: everybody WOULD finish the race. If you ask the participants whether they are satisfied with the result, they all agree that they are proud and satisfied with their performance. “What a fabulous race with lots of tail wind, sunshine and energy drinks – and a fantastic view from the top of the bridge, which made one forget how exhausting it was. Now that our legs are not sore anymore, we are contemplating our next challenge, which could be the Great Belt Marathon, the Hans Christian Andersen Marathon or a couple of other interesting races”, says Mikael Skinnerup.
Blue Water’s Health & Safety Plan Blue Water participated in DONG E&P Supplier Days 2010 - Health & Safety Conference for DONG ENERGY suppliers - in Copenhagen in February. This year’s conference programme included a competition. All participants should present their Health & Safety Plan for the next year, and afterwards they should all vote for the presentation with the best contents and message. We are very pleased and proud to announce that Blue Water took first place. The other participants liked our way of visualizing and simplifying the Health & Safety Plans by using blackboards and chalk to get the message from the top management out to the staff, says Kim Beier, Blue Water’s HSEQ Manager.
The Blue Water team: Anders Olsen, Barbara Tullberg, Cecilie Borch, Jesper Lisbye, Oliver Hasslund, Jonas Nielsen, Kenneth Lauritsen, Laila Teilhof, Michael Petersen, Mikael Skinnerup, Natacha Pedersen, Thomas Dam Larsen, Thomas Jeppesen and Thomas Johansen.
Newly Certified Forwarders in Blue Water It is a very extensive education, where subjects such as forwarding law, NSAB, forwarding economy, sales and service are combined with a detailed insight and personal efforts in the special subject chosen by each individual. Every year, the newly certified forwarders are invited to Børsen in Copenhagen (the Danish Stock Exchange building), where a representative from the Danish Forwarders’ Association presents the certificates to each individual forwarder. This year, two of our 14
girls, Heidi Nielsen and Sanne Sønderup Petersen, participated and report on a very positive experience, especially the guided tour of the old historical building made an impression on the visitors. The speeches, flower bouquet to each forwarder, meeting the teachers and fellow students were also among the highlights of the day. We do hope that even more of our employees would like to represent Blue Water on Børsen in the future, says the Blue Water Group’s HR Manager Aase Bjerregaard Christensen.

Family Day in Aarhus On Sunday 18.4., Blue Water Aarhus had an open day for the entire staff and their families. The idea of the Family Day was to tell the closest relatives about Blue Water in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. General Manager Poul Aarre started the day by welcoming the many visitors followed by a tour of the office, during which the family members asked a lot of questions about the working day at Blue Water. Later in the day, the children as well as
Exciting Race on Aalborg Racing Track As part of Aalborg Racing Track’s attempt to launch new and exciting initiatives - e.g. talks given by well-known persons before the races – an “Open Day” event was held on 26.6. The stables were open to the public and one of the highlights of the day – in addition to free ice cream, sausages and racing to live music - was the “iron horse” sponsor race. Blue Water Aalborg among others sponsored Jeanette Villadsen, Marketing Manager of Aalborg Racing Track, riding the well-trimmed iron horse “TREK”. Jeanette made 18 kilometres in one hour, which produced a good many of the DKK 83,000 that the race realized in total.
Jeanette Villadsen and the iron horse.
the playful grown-ups were offered a short truck ride. Fortunately we also had a few trophies from Africa at our warehouse, for which Blue Water is in charge of the transport. The children were overwhelmed with excitement at the sight of a preserved crocodile. The day’s amusements also included a bouncy castle, which was very popular with the children. Another attraction was the hotdog stand. All in all a very pleasant and interesting day for everyone.
Summer Party During the weekend of 29-30 May, the summer party of Blue Water Aarhus took place in Søhøjlandet (holiday resort), in Gjern. Saturday afternoon was dedicated to amusing and physical challenges like mega table football. The teams were very enthusiastic and invented fabulous team cries. The evenings programme included a delicious Italian buffet dinner, entertainment and dance. Indeed a very pleasant weekend in good company.
Children supporting Children During the World Cup in South Africa, TV2 (Danish Television) has together with DGI (Danish Gymnastics and Sports Clubs) and SOS Børnebyerne (SOS Children’s Villages) collected used football boots in Denmark for children in South Africa - direct aid from Danish children to children in another country. In other big cities, football containers were placed at strategic places. In Esbjerg, however, there was no official collection point so the local SOS Børnebyerne group was responsible for the collection and Blue Water sponsored the domestic transport. In total 181 pairs of boots were donated (32 by Blue Water’s staff) as well as various sports wear, packed in 13 removal boxes and transported to Odense for transshipment to South Africa – to the delight of the African children, we hope.
Collecting and packing the many boots to South Africa.
At this year’s Green Concerts in July, Blue Water Esbjerg participated in a dodgeball tournament. Our very tough and efficient team “The BLUE Dolphins” went straight through to the final, where they unfortunately lost the draw and had to settle for second place. In spite of the result, our team had a fantastic day.
Kim and Connie – our drivers on the service between Padborg and Boulogne-surMer - have bought a new vehicle – naturally with Blue Water’s name on it. 15

Jubilees 20 years John Lauridsen – also known as “Senor” – will be celebrating his 20th anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.10. 20 years ago, after his long professional football career in Spain, John returned to Denmark with his family. He was 31 years old at that time and started as trainee in our department for European road traffic – naturally with export Spain as his main field. John is very dedicated to his job, and we can give him much of the credit for the positive development of the Spanish traffic – e.g. through his sales trips to his second home country, where he is often recognized in the street and enjoys having a football chat about the good old days. John is a company man and very popular among his colleagues and customers because of his positive attitude and friendliness towards everybody – no snobbishness at all! Although John has passed the age of 50, he is still going strong – with golfing, running and not only as a frequent visitor at the local fitness centre, but also as an instructor. On 22.10., Steen Bendix Jørgensen – alias “White Willow” – will be celebrating his 20th anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg. Steen started in the domestic department, where he is still very active. For the first many years, Steen was involved in the local dry cargo activities, devoting most of his time to haulage of feta cheese in connection with the monthly reefer shipments to the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf via port of Esbjerg. After a number of years, Steen was transferred to Blue Water Transport, where he for the last 10-11 years has concentrated on logistics of the trailer fleet on Blue Water’s weekly departure to the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Steen is no doubt a company man, always leading the way in the daily work as a member of the emergency committee in case of flood, as inhouse caretaker and always ready to assist whenever a “company hand” is needed. Steen is married to Nancy and they have two children, Malene and Peder. When he was younger, Steen was very much involved in jogging and cycling and his coaching job in EFB (Esbjerg Football Club). During recent years, however, Steen has become active on other fronts, as he has become member of a lodge and frequently studies the stock prices. On 1.11., it is Pia Skytte’s turn to celebrate her 20th anniversary. Pia was for many years involved in road transport to Scandinavia at our Odense office – in particular Norway – until she in 2008 changed her 16
forwarding job with several other functions across the organisation. Today, she forms part of our tender management group, where she is a guarantee of good quality and precision in connection with our tender proposals. Furthermore Pia is our dangerous goods expert, teacher and internal adviser. She also deals with claims in a very professional way and therefore often acts as client adviser in relation to damages to the cargo and cargo insurance. Blue Water’s trainees also benefit from Pia’s wide transport knowledge, as she performs the function of trainee mentor and is an invaluable support in connection with the trainees’ final examinations. Pia is known and respected for her great commitment no matter what kind of job it is - big or small. Quality is Pia’s trademark.
10 years On 18.9., Peter Taylor will celebrate his 10th anniversary as driver and warehouseman at Blue Water Aberdeen. Peter and his wife like to spend their summer weekends relaxing at their caravan in nearby Banchory. However, they also like a foreign holiday and try to get abroad twice a year if possible. Another big interest is football, and Peter supports Aberdeen and Spurs. Despite his urges for our clients’ tea and biscuits, they all seem to like him and he is well thought of by them all. Peter’s colleagues maintain that he keeps the cleanest truck in Aberdeen and its environs – both inside and outside. Hanna de Jong will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Kolding on 1.10. Ten years ago, Hanne started with invoicing and other accounting activities. She has since become very much involved in claims and has developed into a claims expert, capable of giving her colleagues competent advice whenever needed. Hanna is a member of our Health and Safety Committee – a task she performs with great accountability. Hanna is very popular among her colleagues, and when there is a summer party, Christmas party or other events, we can always count on her support in the form of a helping hand and cheerfulness. Hanna is married to Bent and has 2 children. The family’s great passion is sailing in their own sailboat in both Danish and foreign waters. 10 years ago, Helle Glass joined our deep sea department in Esbjerg (on 1.10.00), leaving a job “on the other side of the
desk” at company Colorlux. Helle did, however, start her career with a freight forwarding apprenticeship and has also worked as such in Hamburg and Padborg. At Blue Water, Helle is responsible for overseas import. Helle has 3 children, Christian, Anna and Frederik. She is a very active girl and used to run a lot, but has now changed to cyc-ling, and is always on the road whenever the opportunity arises. In 2009, she cycled to Paris with Team Rynkeby, and she is also part of this year’s team cycling to Paris. In addition to her active life, Helle is very interested in health and nutrition and has in her spare time studied to become a die-tician. We all benefit from her interest for food and health in the form of good advice about a healthy life style, wholesome cakes etc. On 16.10., David Earp will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his employment with Blue Water in Manchester. Still a youthful 31-year-old, Dave is now an important member of our import team. Sadly for him, the nightclubbing days of his early career have come to an end since the arrival of his daughters Lucy (2) and baby Ruby. Svetlana Lohals, who originally comes from Ukraine, will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.12. Sveta, as she is also called, started in our offshore department, involved in transport of drilling equipment to the North Sea. After a few years, she changed to terminal administration and has since become part of Blue Water Transport, where she is keeping check of Blue Water’s trailer fleet (600 units) and the external haulage contractors operating for the Blue Water Group. In order to get a Danish certificate, Svetlana has just completed a commercial and clerical education along with her daily work. In private life, she is married to Allan and they have a daughter called Freja. In her free time, Svetlana goes in for fitness and likes to bake, a hobby her colleagues benefit from (that is, if she does not forget the cake in the oven!), and she also helps Russian-speaking people to integrate in Denmark through the local Russian club. On 1.12., Anna Lizunova will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Moscow. Anna is taking care of the secretarial duties, but is furthermore involved in accounting matters. Her daily responsibilities include bank and customs & tax reconciliations as well as reporting accounting matters to the head office in Esbjerg. Anna has a little son, Maxim, aged 7.

At the annual Scandinavian football tournament in the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in Houston, John Moyell met this young fellow , who may seem familiar to some of you – Lars Jedermann Jørgensen from Blue Water Houston - who defended the Danish colours. Naturally the best team won, and they were of course wearing red and white shirts. Strangely enough, Lars has never boasted about the result!
On 25.5., Gerben van Giesen/Blue Water Rotterdam had a daughter, Veerle, weighing 3.8 kgs. The family also includes the proud big brother Lars. Torben Nyborg/local customer department, Esbjerg and his wife, Anne-Sophie, became parents for the first time on 8.6. Their big baby girl (4.5 kgs) will be named Cecilie. Marc Nielsen’s/terminal assistant in Esbjerg little girl (2.8 kgs/49 cm), Elina, saw the light of day on 10.6. Christina Husted Bergmann/overseas department, Esbjerg gave birth to her third daughter, Camille (3.78 kgs/51 cm) on 10.6. On 13.6., Kaj Hansen/continental department in Copenhagen became a father when his wife, Lonnie, gave birth to a baby girl (3.482 kgs/53 cm).
On a sunny day, 24.6., our sales manager in Manchester, Steve Townsend, “tied the knot” with Lorraine at Prescott Registry Office on Merseyside. The happy couple followed the sun and honeymooned in Egypt. They first met in 2002, when Steve was on a sales call to our good customer, Hansen Glass, where Lorraine worked at the time. This is a proof that our salesmen should be ready for anything when out on the road!
Carsten Bøttcher/Blue Water Transport, Esbjerg entered into matrimony with Anne Mette in Horne Church on 3.7. By the way, she is almost part of “the family” as she used to work in our accounts department in Esbjerg.
