Blue Water hosting OWIFT
Offshore World International Football Tournament 10-12 June, Blue Water hosted the first Offshore World International Football Tournament. The event was held in Esbjerg, and the initiators were SBM Offshore, Monaco in close cooperation with Blue Water. SBM has for a long time toyed with the idea of arranging an international football tournament for offshore companies, and with the good facilities in Esbjerg and Blue Water Arena’s central location, the idea was put into practice. 8 teams from companies involved in oil exploration or drilling around the world participated with a total of 180 players
of 16 different nationalities: Keppel Offshore & Marine, SBM Offshore, Vicinay Marine, NKT Flexibles, Alfa Laval, Dong Energy/Semco Maritime, Maersk and Blue Water Shipping. Friday evening, the team leaders met at the Hotel Britannia to go through the tournament rules and witness the draw of the matches. Saturday morning at 0800 hours, the tournament started with 8 preliminary matches, and the last 4 pool matches, semifinals and the final were played Sunday at Blue Water Arena.
Blue Water acquires Sea-Air Logistics As from 1.7, we have taken over the activities of Sea-Air Logistics in Gothenburg with the object of strengthening Blue Water’s set-up in Sweden. Sea-Air Logistics is built up over an 11-year period and has specialised in sea and airfreight to/from the Far East and the USA. The company was owned by Christina and Rocco van Horik, among others, and
after the acquisition, Rocco van Horik continues as business development manager for the sea and air activities at Blue Water Sweden. As the philosophy of high quality and personal service falls in line with Blue Water’s own values, we are confident that we will be a perfect match and look forward to the cooperation.

On 23.6, Blue Water Copenhagen received a short but fruitful visit from Robert Rankin/Sea-Air Logistics Hong Kong, who has also been involved in Sea-Air Logistics, Gothenburg. Robert Rankin was on his way back to Hong Kong from a visit in Sweden.

A lot of close and exciting matches, and in the end Blue Water won the final 4-2 over Keppel’s team made up of players from Singapore, Qatar, Holland and Brazil. The tournament finished with a magnificent gala in the evening in the Carlsberg Lounge at Blue Water Arena, where the fine cups were presented. From all parties, we have received positive response and been encouraged to repeat the success next year.
New Headquarters in Esbjerg This issue of Blue Water News is being edited with removal boxes and chaos all over the place. On Friday 15.7, we moved into our new headquarters at the address of Trafikhavnskaj 9 – just across the street, but still a removal that required an immense amount of preparation – especially in the holiday season. We have been looking forward to moving into our new facilities, but we are also anxious to see how our working day will be in such a big house. There is a long distance from top to bottom – even with a lift – but we will probably see each other around lunch time on the ground floor.

Fulton, visited Blue Water Shipping’s headquarters in Esbjerg, Denmark - which had been decorated with stars & stripes to celebrate the event. At 14.45, a welcoming committee with Kurt Skov in front was ready to receive the distinguished guests. Accompanying the ambassador was Shawn Waddoups (First Secretary, Economic Affairs), the Mayor of Esbjerg Johnny Søtrup and City Manager Otto Jespersen.
The guests received a guided tour of the office building with focus on trailer and cargo monitoring in Europe as well as the large commitment to wind turbine shipments from Blue Water’s project department. Finally, Kurt Skov presented Blue Water Shipping’s expertise and capacities internationally and in respect of the USA in particular. Ambassador Fulton showed great interest, asked many, highly qualified questions and was a very open and charming guest.
Change in the Blue Water Foundation Board Morten Hahn-Pedersen has joined Blue Water Shipping’s foundation board. He is replacing Mayor Johnny Søtrup, who did not wish to be re-appointed after four years as a board member. In this connection we wish to thank Johnny Søtrup for a good cooperation. Morten Hahn-Pedersen, 54 years old, is the managing director of the Fisheries and Maritime Museum in Esbjerg and is extremely passionate about the local trade and industry and port related conditions. In addition to his job at the museum, Morten is a very energetic author and board member, especially within his area of expertise, but also in Esbjerg Business Development. Morten Hahn-Pedersen has been resident in Esbjerg since 1988. We look forward to new inspiration and cooperation in the Foundation Board.
Visit from the Minister of Transport On 22 July, Danish Minister of Transport Hans Christian Schmidt visited Blue Water’s new office building in Esbjerg together with Member of Parliament Mike Legarth, Esbjerg’s Deputy Mayor Henning Ravn, the Mayor of Tønder Laurids Rudebeck, the Manager of Esbjerg Business Development Centre Tom L. Nielsen as well as Lars Erik Skydsbjerg from Tønder municipality. A friendly and constructive discussion took place with the quick-witted Minister of Transport. We expressed our opinions in respect of the new Port Regulations, and not least our wishes for a motorway connecting Heide in Germany with Esbjerg, i.e. a considerable upgrade of the A11 between Tønder and Esbjerg. This would relieve traffic pressure on the eastern A45, and provide far better possibilities for the increase in heavy traffic from e.g. many large wind turbine transports to and from the port of Esbjerg with ferry connections to Europe - and the western part of Denmark. Visiting Arla Together we are strong in England
One of Blue Water’s most substantial business adventures ever was the feta shipments from Denmark to Iran for MD Foods – the present Arla Foods. Between 1986 and 1996, no less than 750,000 tons of feta cheese were shipped from Esbjerg on big impressive reefer vessels. We were responsible for the transport from the Danish dairies to our cold stores in the port of Esbjerg, storage and the actual loading of the many vessels. In addition we followed the discharging in the Iranian ports. We enjoyed an excellent cooperation with the people from MD Foods – not least with the then chief negotiator for Iran, Sales Director Peter Lauritzen – and Søren Stougaard and Kurt Skov often accompanied Peter on his sales trips to Iran. Times have changed – and the export to Iran has stopped. Peter Lauritzen is now Managing Director of Arla Foods in England, where the company holds a strong position in the market. Arla Foods is just now investing a lot of money in the construction of a new, very advanced factory under the management of Factory Manager Lars Dalsgaard, who is also one of the MD people from the good old Iran days. During a visit to England in the early summer, Kurt Skov seized the opportunity to pay a visit to his old business relations and friends and exchange old feta memories.

Saturday, 25.6 at 1527 hours, Fin Hüttel of Blue Water Herning was contacted by Siemens in Brande. They needed a trailer with wind turbine parts delivered in Perth, Scotland by Monday afternoon, or else the work on the site would come to a standstill. Delivery deadline on the ferry in Esbjerg was 1830 hours, meaning that we had 3 hours to find a trailer, a driver and to book space on board. Fin, who was in the process of paving the surroundings of his private domicile together with his neighbour, started working on the case immediately. Soon a trailer was found, but finding a truck and a driver was more complicated. He therefore took contact to Henning Linding (married to Mette Linding/Blue Water Herning), who was in the middle of moving house. Henning was willing to help at once, collected the trailer in Herning and headed towards Esbjerg. Here, we shall not forget to mention that Mette was not very pleased! Next on the list was booking of space on
board the ferry. As this is usually not possible at weekends, Fin called Jørn Haubjerg of Stena Line Freight, Esbjerg. Jørn was just on his way out of his driveway in a car packed with holiday stuff, but stepped on the brake and took care of booking of space on board for the trailer. At 1822 hours, Henning arrived at the DFDS Terminal in Esbjerg. Now we had almost made it to England, and we only needed a truck to go to Perth. Saturday afternoon, Jesper Heinze/Blue Water Manchester was put on the case, and managed to find a truck and a driver the same day. Sunday, he went by the office to prepare the freight bill, and the trailer was collected in Immingham Sunday at 1730 hours - and Monday at 1100 hours, the blade parts were delivered safely on the site in Perth. Siemens were happy, but also surprised by the successful operation, which was only possible due to the fantastic efforts from our four troubleshooters Fin, Henning, Jørn and Jesper.
Danespo’s Silver Jubilee Danespo celebrated its silver jubilee on 1.7, and it was not done quietly. A reception was held at the company premises in the afternoon and in the evening, a magnificent party was held at the Hotel Koldingfjord in Kolding, to which Gyrithe and Kurt Skov were invited. Danespo is a good old client and we jointly own the old potato warehouses in the port of Esbjerg. In the season – from November to February – app. 20,000 tons potatoes are shipped to North Africe, and Blue Water arranges the transport from the potato growers to Esbjerg, storage at the warehouses and loading of the conventional reefer vessels. The jubilee was a perfect opportunity to invite everybody in the “chain”: the po-
tato growers and their organisations, the staff and also the consignees in North Africa. It was a fantastic evening with delicious food, fireworks and dance to an 8-10-man band - and naturally potatoes were a constituent part of all the dishes, even the dessert and the entertainment in the form of a “potato opera”. Danespo was founded in 1986 and has grown steadily ever since. Today the company employs more than 50 people in Denmark, Holland, Germany, France and Algeria and is exporting potatoes to more than 30 countries. Danespo if one of the leading companies in Scandinavia within the fields of processing, sales and production of seed and eating potatoes.

Networking at Blue Water Esbjerg In June, Blue Water hosted a meeting in the Short Sea Shipping network group – headed by Niels Tolstrup - under Det Maritime Danmark (Maritime Denmark) - the EMUC network. 25 persons participated in the event, and Terminal Manager Per Jensen/Blue Water told about the challenges that the new types of short sea shipping involve for the terminals and stevedores in Esbjerg - in particular in connection with oil and wind. A2SEA made a contribution on
future wind turbine installation vessels, and Port of Esbjerg informed about the plans for the new harbour extension to be launched in 2011.
Exotic Power Plant Project
Special Vessel to Angola By request from Svitzer in Angola, our project department in Esbjerg arranged transport of a special vessel from England to Angola. The vessel was built on a shipyard in Dorset, England and will be used in connection with Svitzer’s activities in Soya, Angola, mainly for depollution of ports in case of oil spill. The transport was performed as a combination of road and sea and proceeded according to plan.
Anchor Handling Vessels to Nigeria
Our naval architect, Poul Hennng Nielsen, attended the loading operation of the engines in Rotterdam. Blue Water has just performed loading of 2 engines for a power plant on Male, the main island of the Maldive Islands. The engines are made in Holland, and Blue Water has arranged sea freight from Rotterdam to Male, local transport from the port to the construction site on Male and finally installation of the engines onto the foundation. As well as transporting the engines, measuring 12.65 x 3.55 x 5.10 metres and weighing 148 tons, Blue Water also moved the chimneys, crane, tanks and
various other parts for the project. We have worked on the project for quite a long period, and have been to the Maldive Islands several times to prepare the project together with our good client Semco. As the people on the Maldive Islands are very environmentally conscious, we have among other things, together with the authorities and a local gardener, made a survey of the trees along the route in order to minimize the cutting of these trees, explains Anne Skov from our project department
In May, Blue Water Shipping arranged transport of two anchor handling vessels from Singapore to Lagos, Nigeria. The vessels are being used for local oil exploration in Nigeria. Due to the size and nature of the two vessels, ordinary ocean freight was not an option. As an alternative, Blue Water Shipping proposed using a semi-submersible vessel - the MV ”Combi Dock IV” - which can submerge its cargo hold under sea level and in this way for instance transport small vessels. The entire operation was monitored closely by Blue Water staff in Singapore and Esbjerg. Naturally, Blue Water’s own staff was on board during the float operation, and likewise, we had people present during the float off operation in Nigeria.
News from C&MLN – Cruise Network Blue Water has successfully completed two new ship projects in conjunction with Priano Marchelli in Genoa. Our cruise team completed all air and sea shipments to the “Carnival Najic” in Trieste and the “Seabourn Quest” in Genoa. We are currently responsible for the provisioning for these two vessels every other week while they ply the Mediterranean blue waters. Our dry dock team was awarded more
than 30 air and sea freight shipments by our newest client, Norwegian Cruise Lines, while in dry dock in Freeport Bahamas. NCL relied on our expertise to organise five small charters from Fort Lauderdale airport to the dry dock in Freeport plus various ocean and air shipments from Europe and Asia. Several of Blue Water’s Scandinavian offices were involved in the air and ocean shipments, either via Miami or directly to Freeport. 5

Comfort at Sea - Offshore Accommodation Vessels
Comfort at Sea - the joint venture between Blue Water Shipping A/S, Denmark and ISP, Miami for promotion and operation of accommodation vessels - has arranged a charter of the “Sea Voyager” to EBC-IGLU, s.e.n.c., Toronto, as an accommodation vessel in connection with port construction in Deception Bay, Canada. The vessel was
Windforce11, Bremerhaven In connection with Windforce11, Blue Water was invited to Bremerhaven to give a presentation of “Comfort at Sea”. The interest in Comfort at Sea and the flotel concept is increasing, and in particular the German offshore wind market, with

Deception Bay closes around the end of October due to ice, and the work must be completed before then. There is a number of other contracts, as well as long term contracts being negotiated, and we are looking forward to the expanded relationship between Blue Water Shipping A/S and ISP in the Comfort at Sea joint venture”, states Kurt Skov. ISP Inc. will handle the technical management of the vessel, and ISP Leisure will provide hotel services during this charter period. Following the job in Canada, the Sea Voyager will be positioned to Northern Europe for a winter laying up, following which it will be available for charters during the summer of 2012.

Visit on board the “Sea Spirit” On 28.6, Søren Stougaard and Jacob Kjærgaard from Blue Water paid a visit on board the accommodation vessel “Sea Spirit”, chartered by Siemens for the Walney II Offshore Wind Project. The vessel was delivered in Barrow on 1.5, and is now positioned at the offshore wind park serving as accommodation vessel for the app. 60 Siemens people who stay on board.
Minor changes have been made on board in order to adapt the vessel 100% to Siemens’ specifications. A boat landing has been installed at starboard side and changing facilities and fittings for container lashing and securing on the upper deck have been made. Both crew and Siemens’ staff are happy with the result.
The “Dannebrog” in Grenaa On 23.5, Her Royal Highness Queen Margrethe and the Prince Consort arrived at Grenaa on their annual summer cruise. It was bright sunshine when they arrived on board the royal yacht, to the strains of the royal anthem, and were greeted by a big crowd waving the Danish flag. A lot of children were present as the schools in Grenaa were closed in honour of the occasion. The arrival of the splendid yacht “Dannebrog” was planned to be at 0948 hours, and a major welcoming committee consisting of the town notabilities, bodyguards, a music band etc. was waiting on the quayside. The red carpet was laid out where the gangway would be placed with 6
almost millimetre precision so that the royal couple could walk ashore and meet the waiting crowd. It was no mere coincidence that the arrival went without a hitch. The royal yacht had already 3 weeks earlier made a test call at Grenaa to measure the exact position of the red carpet. Oestship/Blue Water Shipping as well as the Port of Grenaa provided linesmen for both the test call and the real event to make sure that mooring and securing on the quayside went as planned. It is always a spectacular sight to watch the royal yacht, which will be 80 years old in October, but still looks as if she has just come out of the building berth.

FPSO Project Cargo to Brazil As part of Blue Water Shipping’s agreement with Dutch company SBM Offshore for all logistics in connection with the FPSO Cidade de Paraty project in Brazil, Blue Water Shipping in Aberdeen recently arranged part of a series of project transports. Transport of the 3,200 tons project cargo to Brazil followed careful preparations and great efforts, as cargo dimensions, type, supplier location and general infrastructure in Scotland provided challenges. Several of the items were taller than 10 metres and weighing in excess of 126 tons. The supplier was located in the small Scottish town of Buckie, which was not equipped to handle large heavy-lift vessels. The solution was to transport all items on a small coaster from Buckie to
Invergordon for direct transfer at sea to a heavy-lift vessel. The final destinations were two shipyards in Brazil. On arrival at the first shipyard, the project cargo was discharged from the vessel onto a barge. On delivery to the last shipyard, the cargo was discharged directly on the quayside. All items will eventually be installed on board the FPSO.
Transport Project for West Diesel The m/v “Dijksgracht”of shipping line Spliethoff called at the port of Esbjerg to load wind turbines on 24.3. This was not at all exceptional, but it was indeed a coincidence that the first delivery of generator systems from our client, West Diesel in Esbjerg, to the Jinling Ship Yard was for a series of 8 multi purpose cargo vessels to Dutch shipping line Spliethoff (3 x 450 kW for power supply to the vessel’s 3 cranes and 1 x 450 kW for an emergency generator to each of the 8 vessels) and the first vessel in this series was the very same m/v “Dijksgracht”. At the same time, it was a cooperation between West Diesel and Blue Water covering a total transport project from supplier to manufacturer and finally to the client in China.
West Diesel is supplier of Mitsubishi and John Deere diesel engines and handles specific constructions of generator, propulsion and emergency power systems. Blue Water handles many transport projects for West Diesel, and one of the things that the company appreciates is having a regular contact at Blue Water. This makes their working day a lot easier, says Kim Kjærbøll of West Diesel.
Visit from Mexico On 8.6, Blue Water Amsterdam welcomed Frank Beutel, CEO of Interfrieght Global Transportation and Logistics in Mexico. The company has for the recent 13 years been our appreciated partner, in fact since they established offices in Monterry, Cancun and Mexico City, and we are very happy with their service, as they offer all modes of transportation and perform on a dedicated level. Our cooperation with Interfreight covers among other things airfreight of frozen food products out of Mexico into Amsterdam for our good client Simplot Europe. During Frank Beutel’s stay in Amsterdam, we seized the opportunity to make a joint visit to Simplot Europe’s office in order to discuss the existing and future traffic – both sea and airfreight.
Anchor Transport At the end of March 2011, Blue Water’s project department in Esbjerg handled the transport of a 42-ton heavy anchor from Bladt Aalborg to NKT Flexibles in Kalundborg. Before transport execution, thorough route surveys were carried out as well as investigations into the options for sea transport. Due to the heavy weight and anchor dimensions of 5.35 x 5.26 x 4.30 metres, it quickly became apparent that road transport would provide a challenge, and an all-sea transport would be costly for the client. It was therefore decided to perform the transport as a combined road transport from Aalborg to Aarhus and subsequent sea transport by RoRo ferry from Aarhus to Kalundborg. At the last minute, the project transport was complicated by road work on the main road to Aarhus. A further road survey located a possible bypass option, and the transport was carried out with delivery as planned to NKT Flexibles in Kalundborg.
Drilling Rig in Hirtshals For the first time ever, a drilling rig has called at the port of Hirtshals in the North of Jutland. Maersk Drilling appointed Blue Water Shipping agent for the rig ”Maersk Guardian”. In addition to acting as agent, we will be assisting with various logistics during the port stay. 600 people are expected to be working around the clock on the rig renovation. This is not the first time that Blue Water Shipping is involved in interesting jobs in connection with a rig call. Over the past five years, we have achieved substantial experience with rig upgrade logistics in the port of Esbjerg.

Cruise Ship calling at Brest Blue Water was appointed agent by Office Maritime Monegasque, Monaco for the call of cruise ship m/v “Prinsendam on 2.6. It was our first cruise ship call in Brest. The ship is 204 metre long, built in 1988 and belongs to Holland America Line’s fleet of cruise ships. 786 passengers – mainly Americans – were on a cruise from Forth Lauderdale to Rotterdam visiting Portuguese, Spanish, French and Belgian ports en route. While the ship stayed in the port of Brest, from 0730 to 1700 hrs, around 500 passengers chose to have a closer look at the most beautiful spots of Brittany.
Visiting Alimport, Cuba While on vacation in Cuba in May, Mogens Nielsen from Blue Water Brest seized the occasion to make a courtesy visit to our good old client Alimport. Alimport controls all food imports to Cuba from all over the world. All through the nineties, Blue Water did very good business with the company, especially in connection with large shipments of frozen meat and milk powder from France. A fine opportunity to touch base with our Cuban friends and introduce our offices around the world, from which destinations Cuba imports agricultural products. Naturally we hope to see reefer vessels in Brest again if Alimport buys French seed potatos next season, says Mogens Nielsen.
On 17.6, Mogens Nielsen and Robyn Briand attended the traditional Reefer Summer Shipping Seminar, which took place in Belgium this year. The event coincided with the 60th company anniversary of the Seatrade Group, one of the world’s leading specialised reefer shipowners. It was very interesting to listen to the panel discussion followed by a wonderful show “Wave of Emotions” during the anniversary party hosted by Seatrade, reports our colleagues from Blue Water Brest.

Trophy Hunting in Greenland In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for logistic solutions in connection with the trophy hunters’ packing, freight, document and customs handling of trophies when they have been on hunting expeditions in Greenland. To satisfy the demand, we have - in cooperation with our agents in Kangerlussuaq, Maniitsoq and our own offices in Nuuk, Sisimiut and Ilulissat – established a setup to handle the special “you provide the trophy - we provide solutions” logistics. Just call Blue Water or our agents and ask for our flyer describing the procedure from the animal is brought down until it is delivered to a taxidermist in Denmark or anywhere in the world. As the focus on trophy hunting in Greenland is increasing, we have great expectation to this new initiative, says Blue Water’s Business Development Manager for the North Atlantic region, Ole Ulriksen. Theatre Equipment Denmark/Greenland/Europe Blue Water is involved in transport for the “+/-0” theatre project for the company Unlimited Performing Art under the auspices of the famous Christoph Marthaler. The first production took place in Nuuk, Greenland in May and we subsequently delivered wings and stage requisites from Greenland to Vienna – with a very short deadline. Consequently we had to send it all by air. In good cooperation with Air Greenland, we succeeded in sending the equipment as 3 airbus shipments for delivery in Kastrup. Here the equipment was reloaded on to 3 box trailers destined for Vienna. The theatre equipment has now been in both Nuuk, Vienna and Bergen and is left on standby in Esbjerg until the next performance in Berlin in September. So far, everything proceeds as planned and the play has met great interest in all the places where it has been presented. Berlin has asked for an exceptional eye catcher prior to the first performance. We
New Agreement with the National Health Service in Greenland
are therefore in the process of collecting 5 tons of ice floes (app. 2 x 2 x 2 metres) from Ilulissat in Greenland to be placed in front of the Volksbühne in Berlin. Local fishermen have been assigned the job of collecting ice floes of a suitable size in the bay. In the port of Ilulissat, the ice floes are lifted onto specially designed pallet frames and shipped in containers to Aalborg. From Aalborg, the ice floes are transported to the theatres in Europe on Blue Water reefer trailers. This is a unique initiative in continuation of the already very exciting project for UPA, reports Ole Bøgh Ulriksen from Blue Water Aalborg.
In the spring, we renewed our cooperation agreement with the National Health Service in Greenland. The agreement has already existed for long and includes also Region Copenhagen, Region North Jutland and most recently the State Serum Institute have been incorporated as well. From these three authorities, we deliver medicine, furniture and other equipment to hospitals, dental clinics and pharmacies. Delivery of medicine in particular requires great precision and delivery guarantee as the products are often sensitive to cold/heat and has a very short shelf-life. Since the mid-nineties, we have enjoyed a mutual good cooperation, which will now continue for another two years, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen from Blue Water’s Aalborg office.
Call at Aalborg Blue Water Aalborg was appointed port agent for the vessel m/v “Crownbreeze” calling at the cement works, Aalborg Portland, to discharge 2105 tons of waste packed in 3468 plastic bales. The waste was imported from Transwaste Recycling & Aggregates in Hull, UK. Aalborg Portland use the waste as fuel in their production plant. Discharging was performed by land crane lifting the bales from the vessel directly on to the trucks.

IL76 Air Charter for Maersk Oil Qatar Blue Water Doha proudly reports on a project for our good client Maersk Oil in Qatar. Maersk Oil needed transportation of an engine from Sweden to Qatar. The engine, manufactured by Siemens in Sweden, was something out of the ordinary, weighing 22,000 kgs, and with huge dimensions making transport by ordinary scheduled flight impossible. It was therefore decided to charter an air freighter for the project. Blue Water Billund was responsible for finding a suitable air charter for the job – an IL76 air freighter – which could ac-

commodate the huge engine. A lot of technical details had to fall into place before the actual transport, which was to start at a certain time, could take place. It was decided to move the engine by truck from Sweden to Billund, where we could supervise the loading ourselves and then guide our Doha office in connection with the unloading upon arrival there. The freighter landed in Doha at 1730 hrs. on 13.6. A crane and a step-frame trailer were ready to perform on-carriage, to the client’s address, which took place the next morning.
Renewable UK Offshore Wind 29-30 June 2011 Søren Stouggard and Jacob Kjærgaard represented Blue Water at the biggest offshore wind exhibition in England - Renewable UK Offshore Wind. Throughout Europe, there is an enormous interest in offshore wind, and we met companies from the traditional oil and gas nations, Germany, Holland and in particular Norway. In general, the wind business shows great interest in Danish experience, and we managed to follow up on existing contacts and establish new ones during the two-day exhibition, report our two representatives. More than 167 companies participated and Denmark was richly presented by e.g. A2Sea, Semco Maritime, MTHøjgaard, Per Aarsleff, Vestas and Siemens. In connection with the exhibition, A2Sea hosted the annual Offshore Wind Golf Tournament at Formby Golf Resort, where companies of the wind industry competed for the world champion title. Both Søren and Jacob achieved acceptable results.

North Atlantic Fish Fair 2011 Smyril Blue Water was represented with its own stand at the fisheries exhibition North Atlantic Fish Fair 2011. The fishing town, Klaksvik, was host town for this years exhibition and the organisers were very satisfied with the result. The exhibition attracted around 8000 visitors during the three days, and Smyril Blue Water’s stand was very popular. In addition to providing the perfect frame for conversations, Happy Hour, where Faroese spe-
SPE / ESE, Brussels Once again, the world’s biggest combined seafood and seafood processing exhibition – SPE / ESE – attracted a large number of visitors. Smyril Blue Water was represented with its own stand in the Danish pavilion under the Danish Exporters’ Association. Our own exhibition department was as usual responsible for coordinating the transport for the majority of the Danish exhibitors - app. 25 loads. After the exhibition, a large part of the goods were sent on to another exhibition in Düsseldorf. It was a big coordination job, which also included delivery of fresh fish every day, resulting in some long days for our exhibition forwarder on site, Lasse Reuss. All things considered, everybody was happy and it was a well-attended exhibition in a good atmosphere. Even the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries had taken time to visit the Danish stand and have a beer and a hot dog. All in all, another successful exhibition.

Offshore Wind China 2011 Exhibition Blue Water participated at the Offshore Wind China 2011 Exhibition with its own booth together with 11 other Danish exhibitors in the Danish pavilion organised by the Danish Exporters’ Association. After 10 years of wind energy development in China, the technology has matured, and China is now ready to speed up offshore wind power. Within the next 5 years, China’s investment in offshore wind farms is expected to be more than RMB 25 billion with an installed capacity of 10 million kW, and by 2020 the capacity is expected to reach 30 million kW.

AWEA 2011 Blue Water participated again this year in the AWEA wind exhibition - this time in Anaheim, California. 1400 exhibitors, at stands varying in size, received 20,000 visitors. Blue Water’s stand was in the Danish Pavilion together with other Danish companies, and was represented by the following offices: Shanghai (Arne Iversen), Singapore (Bjarke Riber Nielsen), Houston (Michael Rud), Los Angeles (Søren Thorup Nielsen) and Esbjerg (Claus Holk Poulsen). Due to our worldwide coverage of transport to the wind turbine industry, we met a lot of existing clients, but also a large number of potential suppliers and clients, who made our attendance very worthwhile.
The Chinese and Korean manufacturers were in particular a big surprise with their giant and impressive stands. They concentrate 100% on gaining a foothold on the US market. Despite the fact that it is the second largest market in the world, American wind energy only makes up 2% of the country’s consumption. This means here is a client potential which has not yet been cultivated. Once again, Blue Water coordinated the logistics for the Danish exhibitors through the Danish Exporters’ Association, and Søren Thorup Nielsen/Blue Water Los Angeles had a busy time both before and after the exhibition.

Sea and Air Meeting in Esbjerg

Saturday 2.4, a joint meeting was held in Esbjerg for the entire Danish sea and air group. Almost 100 colleagues took part in the meeting and the programme included information from the top management on the state of affairs and future of Blue Water, an external guest speaker and teamwork in the afternoon. The purpose of the meeting was to expand the cooperation between our sea and air group and contribute constructively to the working day at Blue Water. Director Lars Kloch and Kelly Dellefave of SBS, our partner in the USA, were visiting and participated in the meeting. It was a very interesting day giving priority to both business and social matters, and ending with a party at Blue Water’s premises in the evening.

Cooperation on Poland
On 26.5, the sales meeting of our Danish sales team was held on Funen. The team seized the opportunity to have a guided tour of Lindø – the base of our Funen project department since 1.2.

After several years of having its own office in Warsaw, Poland, Blue Water Shipping has decided to transfer all Polish activities and staff to Rhenus in Poland as from 1.7. With this move, Blue Water Shipping changes strategy from its own set-up to a partnership agreement with Rhenus. Rhenus Poland will gain access to Blue Water Shipping’s set-up in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland), and Blue Water Shipping will have access to a far larger set-up on the traffic operation and sales in Poland. Blue Water has for many years been working together with the Rhenus organisation on France and Spain among other markets. Today, Rhenus Poland is one of the lar12
gest freight forwarders on the Polish market with a staff in excess of 700, sales of more than PLN 150 million, transporting more than 1 million pallets annually and having access to 65,000 sq.mtrs. warehouse and terminal facilities around Poland. Rhenus covers Poland with its own terminals in cities such as Blonie, Lodz, Poznan-Sady, Wroclaw-Bielany, Dabrowa Gornicza and Rzeszow. Distribution is being handled by Rhenus’ own set-up with a maximum transit time of 48 hours covering the entire country. In addition to general road, sea and air freight, Rhenus Poland is very strong in contract logistics, national distribution, FTL distribution and home service covering delivery to private individuals.
Torshavn district needed 14 new busses to be put into service as from early June. Having placed the order, it was only natural to ask Smyril Blue Water - who handles the freight by m/v “Norröna” servicing the North Atlantic - to arrange transport of the busses from Denmark to the Faroe Islands. Hallur Danielsen, Magnus Joensen and Rógvi Helmsdal/Smyril Blue Water Torshavn received the busses on arrival in Torshavn.

Visiting Agents in Italy In week 14, Kaj Hansen/Blue Water Copenhagen, Claus Andersen/Blue Water Odense, Anders Knudsen/Blue Water Milan and our Business Development Manager for Italy, Henrik Sidding Nielsen, packed their suitcases and set out on Tour d’Italia. The purpose of the tour was to call on our Italian agents, which we usually do twice a year to nurture the relationship which is very important for the daily cooperation. First visit was paid to UBV, Ascoli Piceno, our new agent on Central Italy as from 1.6. From this destination, Blue Water has several weekly departures of full loads, part loads and groupage. Next stop was our agent in Tuscany,
Alisped, Prato, with whom we have enjoyed a good cooperation since 1.11.2009, and the traffic is making good progress. We finished our visit having dinner with our contact Francesco Silli. Alisped has subsequently made a joint venture with another local freight forwarder, Italtransport in Pistoia. However, the service will remain unchanged as we continue with groupage departure on Fridays, part loads on Tuesdays and Fridays and full loads every day. Next day, our small delegation continued to Arcese Trasporti, Campogalliano and then Mar.vi sped, Arzignano, with whom we had dinner in the evening.
The last day of the tour included a meeting at Gruber, Verona before the final stop at Blue Water, Milan. The departures from Verona and Milan are the same as from Arcese and Mar.vi, viz. groupage on Tuesdays and Fridays, part loads on a regular basis and full loads daily. In addition to the many departures of both industrial cargo and food products to Denmark, Blue Water offers direct departures to Sweden, Norway and Finland - within our own systems and in cooperation with our offices in Gothenburg, Oslo and Helsinki. Furthermore Blue Water Milan offers groupage departures to the rest of Europe.

New Agent in Italy
Transport Exhibition, Herning – 6-9 April
Blue Water’s road traffic to Central Italy has for a long time been progressing satisfactorily - especially the groupage volume has increased considerably du-ring 2011. As from 1.6, we have made an agency agreement with UBV Group, Ascoli Piceno, covering this region, with a view to strengthen our position and service from this part of Italy. Blue Water will act as agent for UBV in the whole of Scandinavia, and we jointly offer our customers direct departures from the central part of Italy to Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. UBV’s strength is no doubt their great flexibility on the terminal as well as on the national system, contributing to minimizing the transit time further for our clients. In addition, UBV is very familiar with the Scandinavian market. The UBV office is managed
Blue Water participated with its own stand on this year’s transport exhibition in Herning. It was a very interesting event focusing on trucks, IT solutions, transport politics and training and education of the transport sector. As always, our stand had the client in focus. A new initiative at the exhibition, education and training of the transport business, was interesting inspiration for the visitors. The Danish Association of Freight Forwarders encouraged their members to join them in taking part in the exhibition, and several freight forwarding companies regarded this invitation as a new challenge The exhibition received 17,520 visitors during the four days. Even though they did not all stop by our stand, we had indeed some interesting visitors, among others our qualified and reliable hauliers and their families. However, the interest in education/training was limited, and we will just have to realize that it takes times to promote new initiatives at exhibitions of this size. AGK Final in Parken Blue Water Copenhagen sponsors AG Håndbold, Copenhagen (AGK - handball club) through a partner agreement. The Danish handball championship final between AG Copenhagen and BjerringbroSilkeborg was played on 21.5 in Parken. We had high hopes and wished to help AGK set a world record in number of spectators watching a handball match. We therefore invited 100 of our good clients to spend the day together with Blue Water Copenhagen. They had a fantastic day together with a total of 36,651 spectators, which made the world record – and the gold medal - a reality.

Blue Water’s South Jutland Go-cart Race

A go-cart race took place on a rainy evening on the racing track in the little town of Vandel. The participants, who chose to brave the vagary of the weather, had an exciting evening in spite of cloudburst and changes in the racing form. For more than an hour, two participants from each team, chosen by lot, raced Le Mans. We hereby thank Vandel Go-cart for a fantastic evening – and we will for sure come back. The winners were Arnt Vad Jensen & Bo Stokbæk while Jannik Beiter & Karina Pedersen came in second and Teddi Holm & Ole Haahr took third place.
Staff Meeting in Blue Water Aalborg The half-yearly staff meeting of Blue Water Aalborg was held on 19.5, however, in a somewhat different way and in special surroundings – at Weber’s auditorium. The actual meeting was finished with a presentation of one of the new initiatives that the KIA project has given rise to (KIA – Creative alliance is a North Jutland project, for which individual companies have been selected to have an artist “employed” for 160 hours to uncover a topical theme from a new and innovative angle). We have tried to introduce Blue Water’s strategy internally in a new and interesting way. This has ended up in an initiative on social values where we attach great importance to job satisfaction. A working group “KICK” has been established to arrange events and inspire others to do the same. First event was a small-scale Olym-

pics which took place on the evening of the staff meeting. Preparation of a threecourse dinner on a Weber barbecue was the challenging competition – and a jury from Weber Grilleriet (restaurant/showroom) decided the very close race between the teams. The staff have been divided in 6 teams and they have since the start competed in golf and darts among other things. Our small-scale Olympics continue until the autumn, where new events will hopefully take over. The KIA project is finished after the summer holidays and an illustration - by the attached artist, Christina Kühl - of the course of events and the future at Blue Water Aalborg will be published, explains Ole Ulriksen/Blue Water Aalborg.
On 5.6, 100 Blue Water colleagues from Blue Water Esbjerg and their families participated in the annual local fun run “Vestkystløbet”. It was a fine summer’s day, and the social gathering – with beer, soft drinks and grilled sausages - in the park after the fun run is just as important for the spectators as the actual run. Volleyball Tournament on the Faroe Islands
Smyril Blue Water participated, as one of 28 teams, in a volleyball tournament for companies on the Faroe Islands, organised by the local volleyball club Fleyr. After the preliminary matches and semi finals, our team proceeded to the finals to play against Bakkafrost and Fysioterapeuterne (the physiotherapists) – last year’s winners. Both teams were defeated 2-0 and Smyril Blue Water came out the winner of the tournament. Well done!

Jubilees Silver 1.9 will be the day of Kim la Cour’s silver jubilee. Kim is originally a qualified auditor, but in 1986, he got a job in Blue Water’s finance department in Esbjerg as chief accountant for our offices in the North of Jutland in the company Blue Water Nord. For the recent 15 years, however, Kim has formed part of our IT department. For a number of years, he has been responsible for the department’s software development projects. Kim’s speciality is to listen to and understand the clients’ and colleagues’ IT wishes and demands. In close cooperation with qualified software developers, he converts these wishes and demands into efficient and innovative IT solutions, sets new standards and develops specially designed client solutions. Kim’s IT qualifications often take him around the world to meetings with clients and colleagues – which he finds rather entertaining The holidays and leisure time, Kim and his children prefer to spend caravanning under the southern sun On 1.12, Stephen Kenny will have completed 25 years at BWS Manchester. He started in 1986 as a salesman, but has been the cornerstone of our Danish import department for most of his Blue Water career. In his leisure time, Steve follows one of his passions, music, with many visits to concerts. Naturally, coming from Manchester, he is also a keen ”United” fan. Together with his wife, Karen, he is now the proud owner of a motor home, and they take off into the wide blue yonder whenever they can. Often outspoken and always sure to pass on his point of view, he may be considered by some colleagues to have grown from a passionate young man into a grumpy old man. To his colleagues in Manchester, he has always been a grumpy old man! We will, however not refrain from thanking Steve for the last 25 years and wish him all the best for the future – and we are sure that Steve’s colleagues in Manchester will be raising a glass or two.
20 years On 1.10, Inge Grønbæk Jensen/Blue Water Hirtshals will be celebrating her 20th anniversary. Inge started her freight forwarding career as trainee with the then existing Linde Shipping og Spedition, which on 1.5.1994 became part of Blue Water Shipping. Inge has over the years
with great enthusiasm been involved in all kinds of things within shipping and freight forwarding, from customs documentation, ship’s agency to acting as stevedore foreman in connection with loading and discharging of vessels. With her happy open mind, Inge is a very popular colleague, who always wants the best for everybody. Inge has two children, Line and Michael, and she likes playing bingo and spinning and of course spending time with her boyfriend Jan.
10 years Nicki Frandsen/Blue Water Copenhagen will be celebrating his 10th jubilee on 1.9. Nicki started at our warehouse in Vallensbæk and followed us when we moved to our present domicile in Greve. He is always in a good mood ready with a witty remark. Through the years, Nicki has primarily been involved in airfreight to Greenland, but has recently moved to sea freight including Smyril cargo. Nicki has built wide experience of the clients’ cargo, which have resulted in some funny incidents with retained illegal cargo. Nicki keeps fit by training many hours in the fitness centre and by eating healthily. He never eats cake – when anybody sees it. Nicki is married to Iben and they have a son Magnus. The little family loves to go on package holidays, and spent 2 weeks in Turkey in June. Kevin Rob will be celebrating his first 10 years with Blue Water Aberdeen on 3.9. Kevin came from EGL and was initially employed as operations assistant. Due to his hard work and commitment, Kevin was just over 3 years ago promoted to operations manager. He is fully conversant in all modes of transport and is a genuine asset to the office. Kevin is a big football fan and follows Manchester United and likes to get down to Old Trafford to watch them play. He was very happy recently when they won their record-breaking 19th league title. Kevin is married to Diane and they have 2 lovely little girls, Millie and Erin, and he adores all of them. He does enjoy the odd bacon roll in the morning, but has been working these off recently by doing some hill walking at the weekends. Merete Daubjerg Roug/Blue Water Odense will be celebrating her 10th anniversary on 1.12. Merete has been involved in a lot of different activities – including a freight forwarding job in our Italian department and an administrative job, where she was responsible for the optimisation and administrative routines in the continental department.
In 2010, however, Merete was talked into joining our tender group, where she with precision and diligence coordinates submission of tender proposals. Merete is also performing the function of Mocha superuser across the organisation, concentrating on administrative routines, e.g. automatic invoicing and optimisation. For both fields, Merete’s nature as a structured and helpful colleague, focusing on details, fits perfectly in. Merete spends her spare time with her family – Martin and their children Nicklas and Tobias, 2 little mischiefs aged 6 and 3, who try her generally big patience and brings her big challenges. With their daily visits, the little family makes sure that the construction of their new house proceeds as planned. Kristian Kragh/Blue Water Odense started his Blue Water career with 2 good years at our Kolding office involved in road traffic to and from Benelux. Later, Kristian was transferred to our Odense office, where he through all the years and still is taking care of export to Germany/Benelux. His wide experience and familiarity with the hauliers make him capable of finding the perfect solutions to the clients. Kristian is therefore very popular with the clients and also with his colleagues. Kristian is also known for his cheerfulness. He is a fantastic singer, and at parties he lets his hair down singing fanciful songs. Furthermore he is good at parody. When Kristian is around, nobody is bored – super-entertainment is guaranteed. In his spare time, Kristian plays football for OB in the Funen series. A few years back, it was Otterup’s second division team that benefitted from his football talents. Kristian also likes travelling with his family and friends. In his home in Odense, his girlfriend, Katrine, is in control. On 30.10, it will be 10 years since Denise Hanselman started with Blue Water Rotterdam the second time round. Denise did in fact join Blue Water back in 1988 as a young lady of 21, who had just finished her studies at MEAO. In December 1998, however, she wished to try her fortune outside Blue Water. For three years, Denise gathered experience in the outside world before she returned to her old job in the accounts department taking care of bookkeeping and general matters. During her second period with Blue Water, Denise has got married and is now the mother of a lovely little girl, Julie.

Christian de Linde – 20 years old – started as freight forwarding trainee on 1.8. He has, however, been assisting in the road transport department since 15.6.
Esbjerg 37-year-old Jan Steiness joined our IT team as IT supporter on 14.3. Jan has studied informatics and is a qualified information technologist. Jan has previously worked for KG Import as IT supporter and as terminal assistant concentrating on implementation of the company’s inventory system.
Aarhus 21-year-old Malte Brask Nielsen, who joined our local client department on 1.5, started his apprenticeship in the Norwegian department on 1.8. 43-year-old Jens Christian Beck Nielsen joined our team as terminal assistant on 1.5. Jens Christian has worked for Schenker for 18 years. On 1.5, we also took on Karsten Bonnhøft – 46 years old – as terminal assistant. For the recent 5 years, Karsten has been working for Freja. Since 30.5, Jesper Hansen – 28 years old – forms part of our sea freight department as freight forwarder focusing on FCL import. Jesper comes from a job with DSV, Oslo and has also gathered experience from his previous jobs with Seatainers, Maersk and Shipco.

Mike Bjørn – 24 years old – has formed part of our agency department since 4.4. As from 1.9, Mike will start his apprenticeship in the same department.
Harly T.E. Bregendahl – 47 years old – joined our terminal office as stevedore foreman on 6.4. Harly is a qualified shipmaster and has sailed as chief officer on gas tankers. He has also gathered experience from his previous jobs with SAL terminalen and Innertech Clebbrett as surveyor.
20-year-old Jannie Steffensen started as freight forwarding trainee in our sea freight export department on 11.7.
25-year-old Nicolai Mogensen has performed the function of service engineer in Blue Water Port Services since 6.4. Nicolai is primarily working in the port of Aarhus preparing wind turbines for transportation. During the last 6 years, he has been involved in wind turbine installation for various companies.
Billund On 1.4, 26-year-old Joy Sørensen joined our airfreight department as freight forwarder. Joy used to work for Leman, Herning.
Henrik Daugbjerg Nielsen – 30 years old – is employed as terminal assistant since 2.5. Henrik is a qualified truck driver and his recent job was with DSV.
53-year-old Max Juul is employed as canteen manager. Max received his training as a chef at Sønderho Kro and has a long experience within the catering business. His latest job was as canteen manager at KJ Maskinfabriken.
As from 1.6, we have employed 32-year-old Kim Fialla as administration manager in the wind turbine department. Kim has a B.Sc. as well as an MSc in Economics & Business Administration and has been involved in sales and administrative matters at ArtService and Atkins Danmark among other places.
As from 1.6, 55-year-old Erik Meyer is appointed project manager in the IT department. Erik comes from a similar position with Geodis Wilson Danmark and has for many years been focusing on process optimisation within the transport business.
42-year-old Michael Jørgensen joined the team at our groupage terminal on 21.3. Michael was previously employed with Sanistål, but has for the recent couple of years been a taxi driver.
As from 29.3, Michael Burmeister – 33 years old – forms part of our groupage terminal team. Michael used to work for Danish Crown.
On 1.8, we welcomed a new salesman to our team. 36-year-old Peter Fromsejer comes from a similar job with Fairtrans, Kliplev, but is originally a qualified freight forwarder. He received his training at Johs. Rasmussens Vognmandsforretning and has also worked for Schenker and DSV Road and as a salesman for Freja Transport and Logisitcs.
New Employees We have taken on 29-year-old Michael Johansen as stevedore foreman as from 15.8. Michael will primarily perform the function of supervisor for shipments in our port service department. Michael comes from a job with Scandinavian Auto Logistics, and was previously a seaman in the Maersk fleet and has also been employed at the APM Terminal in Aarhus. 20-year-old Stefanie Jensen is employed as accounting trainee as from 1.9.

On 1.9, we welcome our new Marketing and Communications Manager Jan Hjortlund Hansen, who will be the new man in charge of our marketing department. Jan is 41 years old and a qualified journalist with a long work experience. His latest job was as Media Director and Editor in Chief of the local paper ”Budstikken”.
Herning Camilla Gade Kirkegaard – 21 years old – started as freight forwarding trainee in our local customer/courier department on 8.8.
On 10.8, 29-year-old Simon Kvist joined our road team for transport to Eastern Europe. Simon comes from a job with DSV, where he for the recent 4 years has been involved in Eastern Europe – first as a trainee and then as a skilled freight forwarder.
Kolding As from 1.6, we have taken on 37-year-old Sune Porsholdt Andersen as freight forwarder in our import department for Germany. Sune is an old acquaintance, as he was employed at Blue Water for a number of years before he chose to take up new challenges. Sune has now returned to the paddock to take care of full loads import as well as planning and sales.
Anders Joensen – 23 years old – started as freight forwarding trainee in the continental department on 1.9.
As from 4.7, Leif Hansen – 56 years old – forms part of our road department for import Germany. In addition to Benelux, Germany is another market in which Leif has gathered great expertise from his previous jobs with EAT Spedition, Kolding and Hyla and Unique Spedition in Padborg.
As from 4.7, we have employed 22-year-old Eddie Pedersen in our department for traffic to Switzerland and Germany. Eddie comes from a job as freight forwarder with our partner K. Hansen Transport.
20-year-old Ruben Torngren Ibsen started as freight forwarding trainee in our local customer department on 15.8.
Copenhagen As from 25.5, we have taken on 60-year-old Frank Paterson as caretaker, responsible for maintenance and repairs indoors and outdoors. Frank used to work as a caretaker for IBM, where he was looking after a large property and 14,000 m2 garden.
Jonas Andersen – 20 years old – started as freight forwarding trainee in the department for North Atlantic airfreight on 1.9. Loke Rosenkrantz – 23 years old – started as freight forwarding trainee in the courier department on 1.9.
Odense 30-year-old Mark Magelund Larsen joined our deep sea department on 16.5. Mark served his apprenticeship with DFDS Transport, Odense and has furthermore been employed with Zederkopf and Haarslev involved in purchasing and logistics respectively. 19-year-old Kristoffer Lindballe started as freight forwarding trainee in our domestic/ Scandinavian department on 1.8. Brest Vincent Croc – 24 years old – joined our deep sea department as trainee on 6.12.2010 leaving a job with Brittany Ferries. Dubai As from 3.7, we have taken on 36-year-old Arifa Alakbarova as receptionist. Arifa comes from Azerbaijan and has previously worked for the Ministry of Economic Development and Production Union of Power Network in Baku. Furthermore Arifa has experience from a job with GGT in Dubai.

Nuuk We have employed Nauja Lyberth – 38 years old – as manager of our airfreight department since 1.6. Nauja comes from a job with RAL Logistics where she has been working for 15 years.
Fort Lauderdale 33-year-old Belkis Ataman started as freight forwarder in our reefer export department on 6.6. Belkis’ latest employment was with our client, Hakan Agro, in Dubai.
Oslo As from 1.6, 48-year-old Harald Thun performs the function of operations manager for sea and airfreight. In his long career with Geodis Wilson, Harald was in charge of sales and business development.
We have taken on 27-year-old Stephanie Falcon as administrative assistant as from 16.6. Stephanie comes from a similar position with Sony Latin America, Miami and has previously worked for UPS, Fort Lauderdale. Gothenburg As from 1.7, Rocco van Horik – 50 years old – is employed as business development manager for sea and air. Rocco was self-employed for 11 years, running Sea-Air Logistics which is now taken over by Blue Water. Rocco’s early career included jobs with KLM Cargo Amsterdam, Simon Edstrøm, Scanflight, Burlington, Aerocar and MSAS. Helsinki Kai Henrik Hermiø – 29 years old – is employed as freight forwarder since 1.4. Kai has previously worked for Kauko Group and most recently for Itella. Milan 59-year-old Mihai Mocan started as freight forwarder in our department for import Denmark on 22.3. Mihai has for several years been a self-employed freight forwarder in his home country, Romania, focusing on traffic to/from Italy and most recently Denmark as well. Furthermore he has experience from jobs with Sitam and MW Trade, both in Italy. 18
Rio de Janeiro As from 14.2, we have employed Rodrigo Faria – 31 years old – as customs supervisor. Rodrigo has previously worked at Transocean for one year, Panalpina for four years and Kuehne & Nagel for six years – always within customs brokerage of goods related to the oil and gas industry. On 21.3, 27-year-old Rafael Reis joined our team as operations assistant. Rafael has worked for Panalpina, among others, within the oil & gas segment since 2003. Rotterdam Astrid Deen – 51 years old – is employed as accounts assistant as from 16.5. Astrid has worked for Hoekloos for 32 years – the first many years she was involved in administrative matters and the recent 5 years as part of the accounts receivable department. As from 16.5, 39-yearold Stefan Rutjes has joined our warehouse team. Stefan comes from a job at the warehouse of Nippon Express and has among other places also been employed with Seawheel for 8 years. Sao Paulo Henrique Ortega Sanches – 25 years old – started as trainee in the operations department on 26.1. Henrique is studying foreign trade at the university and will graduate with a bachelor degree in 2013.
Singapore As from 3.5, we have taken on 37-year-old Clarence Loh as sales manager. Clarence, who has 5 years of shipping experience from Amasis Shipping, is now responsible for our sales and freight forwarding activities. Tbilisi Grigol Gurgenidze – 40 years old – is employed as customs broker as from 1.3. Grigol has previously worked for Tbilisi Customs Office and C & C, Georgia. Torshavn As from 1.4, Solborg Anthoniussen – 55 years old – is employed as customs broker to take care of customs clearance of import cargo. Solborg comes from a similar job with Havnar Timburhandil.
Blue Water Bremen in new Facilities Blue Water has been represented with its own office in Bremen, Germany – more precisely in Stuhr – since 2006. As from 24.6, the address has changed to: Gutenbergstrasse 14, 28816 Stuhr Telephone, fax and email remain unchanged. Our Bremen office has from the very start been involved in road transport, mainly to Poland and the Czech Republic and distribution for Norwegian shipping line Norlines. Along the line, the activities have increased to include sea and airfreight, e.g. transport of fire bricks from China, edge-glued panels/oak flooring from China and Vietnam, project cargo to Singapore for the offshore industry and steel products to Argentina. As a new initiative, we offer storage and distribution of footwear to the German shoe industry.

Dangerous Goods Courses
Staff Redeployment
The ADR convention dealing with the rules for transport of dangerous goods is being updated every other year. The latest edition came into force on 1.7.11. It is a legal requirement that all employees involved in transport of dangerous goods must have a so-called function-oriented education - an education adapted to the function of the individual. This means that Blue Water’s freight forwarders and terminal staff follow two separate programmes. All relevant staff groups at Blue Water’s Danish offices have during the period of April-June taken the up-to-date ADR course – 337 employees in total distributed on 51 teams at 10 offices. The education was performed in-house by our dangerous goods expert Pia Skytte. The freight forwarders’ education was in particular focused on customer service, information search and correct issue of documents. The terminal staff’s education was focused on correct placing of the goods, lashing, securing and practical conditions for packaging control and safety in general. As the ADR courses finished at the respective offices, a new series of courses, in the IMDG code regulating the comparable rules for transport of dangerous goods by sea, have been launched. In May, Rainer Holm moved from our Germany department at Blue Water Kolding to the road department for Southern Europe in Esbjerg. Having completed his apprenticeship with Blue Water Aalborg, Kasper Junge will be taking up new challenges at our office in Nuuk, Greenland.
Pia Skytte to UK/Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Baltic States and of course container transport to countries outside the EU, will attend these courses. The instruction is performed in close cooperation with our safety adviser, Bureau Veritas HSE Denmark A/S, and is expected to be completed in September. Staff related to airfreight will also attend the above-mentioned ADR course, as they also arrange road transport in connection with pre-carriage and/or oncarriage of airfreight. In addition, airfreight staff takes IATA DGT courses at regular intervals. The instruction in this connection lies in the hands of DGM in Billund and Kastrup in accordance with the present legislation.
The Accounts Department on Tour In the early summer, our colleagues from the accounts department paid visits to our offices abroad. The purpose of the visits was to strengthen the cooperation between the local accounts departments and the head office, but also to handle some of the challenges of the offices abroad. Exchanging experience of the different working conditions within the Blue Water Group is always interesting and fruitful. The conditions abroad are much more complicated than in Denmark, explains Hanne Bärtel, who is re-
sponsible for the accounting matters of many of Blue Water’s offices abroad. After the summer holiday, Karina Pedersen from Blue Water Billund will be transferred to the airfreight department in Gothenburg. Karina completed her apprenticeship a couple of years ago. Having served his first year of apprenticeship in Padborg, Rasmus Ludvigsen will after the summer holiday start his second year of apprenticeship in our Sweden department in Aarhus. On 1.9, Pia Laursen will start her second year of apprenticeship in our road department in Bremen after one year in the continental department of Blue Water Copenhagen. Pia is well prepared for the job, as she has previously worked in Germany for a couple of years. After 3 years in Greenland – Sisimiut and Nuuk - Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen will return to a job with Blue Water Aalborg on 1.9. Kenneth will, however, maintain the association with Greenland, as he will be involved in sales and business development of the North Atlantic region. To replace Kenneth, we have appointed Lis Borg new manager of our Nuuk office. Lis has been with Blue Water Nuuk since the autumn of 2010. As from 1.9, the daily management of our Milan office will be handed over to Mariluz Santos, who has been part of the Milan team since 2007. She will continue reporting to Henrik Sidding Nielsen, who is now based in Copenhagen and overall responsible for Blue Water’s traffic between Denmark and Italy. Morten Eskildsen, from our road department in Esbjerg for traffic to/from Portugal and Spain, will change base to Milan as from 1.10.

On 11.4, Tina Imer Jensen/Blue Water Aalborg gave birth to a healthy baby girl, who has been named Malou. Mette Trilling Lassen/Blue Water Aalborg became a mother of a fine baby girl, Marie (3.6 kgs/50 cm), on 12.4.

As mentioned in the latest issue of Blue Water News, Jørn Bøllund has retired after almost 39 years of loyal service. Friday 17.6, was an emotional day for Jørn right from the early morning, when he was received at the office with choir singing by all his colleagues followed by a big joint breakfast and later on, transport by rickshaw to his farewell reception at Blue Water Arena and a farewell party in the evening. A long working life has ended and a long and happy retirement has started.
