40 Years in the Spirit of Adventure Eminent client focus, unique team spirit and the will to make a difference is the motivation for Blue Water’s founder Kurt Skov – and for the company he has created together with his staff. On 1.9, Blue Water will celebrate its 40th anniversary – and so will Kurt Skov, who founded the company in modest surroundings at Esbjerg Airport in 1972. Much has happened during Blue Water’s 40 years of existence: it has grown from three employees at one office to more than 1,000 employees at 54 offices in 26 countries. Today the company offers a variety of unique, highly specialized transport and logistic solutions within 7 business segments compared to the first years with traditional sea, air and road transport. “It may seem a bit naive to start my own company at the age of 25, but I was hooked on the business, and it was my ambition to create a local freight forwarding company, which could offer the clients a better service and a higher quality”, says Kurt Skov, who is a qualified freight forwarder and shipbroker. During the first couple of years, sea and airfreight were in focus, and through hard work, an efficient network and the ability to make a difference in relation to the clients, the business prospered. After the first year, however, unexpected challenges occurred: the first oil crisis set in resulting in very high oil surcharges, which in particular hit the sea and airfreight activity badly. This made Kurt Skov 2

and the rest of the small Blue Water team turn their thoughts to new initiatives. “We expanded our services by establishing road services to England and Ireland. As we took care of everything ourselves in connection with the transports - found the customers, made agreement with the shipping lines, issued documents and loaded the trailers - it became a profitable activity and we gained experience and valuable knowledge of road transport, which has since formed an essential foundation for our company. Today we operate 800 trailers on the European road network. Because of this activity, we established our first offices outside Denmark: Manchester in 1975 and Dublin in 1978”. The Client in Focus Since the start, Blue Water has expanded every year – in respect of employees, number of offices, clients and new modes of transport and transport solutions. Always focusing on new possibilities. “We soon found out that being close to the clients and building good client relations make a difference. It makes it easier for us to handle the clients’ transports, and we have been very good at seeing the possibilities and never been afraid of taking chances and meeting new challen-

ges. Our basic strategy has not changed since 1972: We want to be “Best in Town” – to be the best local freight forwarder in the business segments that we are handling, be it locally or globally” says Kurt Skov, the natural and respected director of Blue Water through all the years. A flat Organisation Kurt Skov has never managed the company from the top of his organisation, rather from the middle. He is more to be characterized as a creative, offensive midfielder on a football team, where he, seeing the big picture, plays his fellow players, giving them challenges and responsibilities. As Kurt Skov has always wished and been able to surround himself with managers and staff possessing the same values, Blue Water is today a strong team, and each single employee is an active valuable and responsible player. This also goes for the youngest trainee, who from day one will be taking his share in the work. “In Blue Water, everyone is given and taking responsibility, so that we can act proactively in relation to the clients and the assignments. Naturally this will sometimes result in mistakes, and it is our duty to learn from these mistakes. This way we develop and become more competent,

Blue Water News | No. 100 | August 2012

and fortunately we have over the years improved our skills and become better at making a success of things”. The Staff is Blue Water’s Foundation Kurt Skov stresses the fact that Blue Water’s all-important foundation is its staff, and therefore we shall be a desirable workplace capable of attracting motivated, competent and service-minded employees. Just like in the world of sports, we must find and develop the best talents, who will, together with the experienced players, make the strongest team based on the unique Blue Water team spirit. Because of – and to strengthen – this team spirit, we will celebrate the company’s 40th jubilee together with as many as possible of our 1,000 employees at a party in Esbjerg, the location of our headquarters. A knowledge-based Company In 40 years, our company and the transport business have seen a rapid development. Formerly, decisions were a bit faster and sometimes without too much consideration. In consequence, Kurt Skov and the rest of the team have been involved in many projects and transports that other companies would be careful of undertaking. However, these “adventures” have helped shape our company and given us experience, knowledge and competences. “Blue Water’s strength is that we are no longer a traditional transport company, but a knowledge-based company built on in-house competences and resources. Today we are able to fulfil a much bigger part of our clients’ needs with respect to transport and logistics. We are not just

freight forwarders, shipping people and shipbrokers, we have a number of specialists, e.g. IT developers, naval architects, lawyers and HSSEQ specialists, who are essential for our first-class service and quality”. “Developments necessitate a much greater extent of professionalism on our part due to rules, legislation and requirements from clients and authorities. High standards and demands on ourselves are necessary, but it is important for me that we can preserve our spirit and culture, so that we can still be close to our clients and focus on their needs. And it is essential that we remain trustworthy because we want our clients to have faith in us”. The History Much has happened in Blue Water’s 40 years of history: In the seventies, the traditional transport of industrial cargo and other commodities by air, sea, road and rail developed and is still the biggest business segment making up half of the company’s total annual turnover of DKK 3.5 billion. New solutions and concepts are continuously developed and adapted to the individual client’s markets, goods and needs. Based on our offices in Norway, Sweden and Finland, we wish to be a substantial Nordic player in the market. In the eighties, the development of reefer transport started, based on large shipments of poultry, meat, cheese, butter and fish, by the shipping line Lauritzen Reefers, from Denmark, France and Holland to the Middle East – as well as huge shipments of feta cheese to Iran. For that reason we also became hauliers and established Blue Water Transport. The

experience and relations have increased, and today Blue Water transports more than 50,000 reefer containers worldwide on an annual basis. At the same time, we bought the reefer vessel “Polar Nanoq”, together with Claus Sørensen A/S, Esbjerg and our Greenland partners, to carry shrimps and fish products from Greenland and Newfoundland. This was the beginning of our North Atlantic adventure which now comprises large activities and branch offices in Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. It is difficult to point out special events. However, one of the decisive steps was taken in the nineties, when the adventurous Kurt Skov decided to expand the company’s comprehensive activities in the oil and gas industry to include the Caspian Sea. As one of the first Western companies, Blue Water set up in this challenging region, and the startup in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia was also the start of one of the company’s greatest successes. Blue Water was awarded the transport of the equipment from worldwide destinations in connection with the upgrading of an oil rig in Baku in Azerbaijan at the Caspian Sea. The transport project was very successful and Blue Water has since been strongly involved the oil industry in this region. Based on this experience, we won the contract in 2000 for the first transport ever of a complete drilling rig – built in modules in Singapore - to the Caspian Sea through the Russian river system. Just now, we have finished yet another transport of an oil rig from Dubai to this region. Since 2000, Blue Water’s port activities 3

The Blue Water Foundation However, the all-important event for Blue Water – apart from the establishment of the company - took place in 2007, when Kurt Skov decided to transfer 75% of the company shares to an independent commercial foundation, the Blue Water Foundation, and keep 25% to himself. The purpose was to safeguard Blue Water’s future. “I want Blue Water to have a long and exciting future. The best way to make sure this will happen, is through this foundation, which purpose is to safeguard the identity, existence and development of the company and the jobs. Blue Water has never been for sale, and I have never ever considered selling regardless of the price. With the transfer of the share ma-

in Esbjerg are in a rapid development, in particular within the oil, gas, wind and ferry activities. Likewise, the establishment of a large specialist wind turbine division has made Blue Water a significant and important freight forwarder for the wind industry. Blue Water operates worldwide in transport, storage and handling of wind turbines to on & offshore wind farms. Furthermore logistics to the cruise industry was launched - based on our client, Holland America Line, and our offices in Holland and Florida – as well as a worldwide network of agents in the “Cruise & Marine Logistic Network”.

jority and consequently the control to the Blue Water foundation, I hope that the ownership and the future are secured”, says Kurt Skov, who just recently has decided to step down as CEO in 2012, once his successor has been found. Kurt will continue as executive chairman. The Future “It has been an exciting time with ups and downs, crises and successes – and hard work including 100 -140 days of travelling every year, as it is necessary to go out and see for oneself, consider and evaluate. I still expect to be working actively for many years, but I will now concentrate on business development, clients and networking, which I find incredibly interesting”. These are also the three all-important factors in Blue Water’s achievement of

1972 On 1.9, Blue Water Shipping is founded in Esbjerg Airport. The owners are the two Copenhagen shipping companies, N.Schiøtt & Hochbrandt and Fellowship I/S, and the staff of 3 consist of Kurt Skov, Bjørn Siig and Jørn Bøllund with Kurt at the helm. Shortly after, Kurt buys the two companies out.

its present position. Kurt Skov is therefore convinced that Blue Water has a bright future ahead of itself, as long as we just stick to our fundamental values. “Naturally, we must constantly follow the global development on the world markets, both financially and politically, and be prepared for quick, necessary adaptations to the market conditions. But our financial position is healthy and therefore we have every opportunity for continuing our success in the years to come. We spend a lot of money and resources on business development, and if we are willing to adapt and not just follow the trend, but lead the way, Blue Water will grow bigger and bigger over the next ten years - both in respect of turnover, profit performance and number of staff and offices – for the benefit of our clients”.

Historic Transport to the Caspian Sea With a clearance of just a few centimetres, Blue Water is the first company in history to transport cargo with a width of 17.35 metre on the Volga-Don river system. One of the items shipped on the barge weighed 1,050 metric ton alone. The record-breaking transport was part of a shipment of four river barges from Mariupol to Astrakhan. The overall project covers the transport of a Le Tourneau S116 (E) specially designed jack-up rig constructed by Lamprell at the Hamriyah facility in Sharjah (UAE). Due to the limited width of the Russian river system, the jackup rig was separated into smaller sections in preparation for transport. In total, the transport consisted of three heavy-lift shipments finishing with river barge transport to Astrakhan in the Caspian Sea. The transshipment of the cargo onto river barges was performed by a team from Blue Water consisting of stevedores, naval architects and project freight forwarders. ”Both the transshipment and the river transport are demanding tasks. Blue Water adheres to high HSEQ standards, which is

The total project included 85,000 m3 of cargo, totalling 8,205 ton. why we have put every effort into securing the safety and environmental aspects of the transport”, says Kim Beier, Quality Coordinator at Blue Water Shipping, who followed the transport on board one of the river barges through the river system. The experienced project team from Blue Water subsequently reported that the entire transport was successful. The total transport included 85,000 m3 of cargo, totalling 8,205 metric ton. For the past 15 years, Blue Water has pro-

vided transport and logistics solutions to the Caspian Sea - primarily for the oil and gas industry. During this time, Blue Water Shipping has completed several, historic transports to the Caspian Sea. 12 years ago, Blue Water was the first company to transport a rig to the Caspian Sea through the river system. Another recent project set the record for the longest cargo shipped on the river system with the longest items measuring 132.8 metres.

Large Oil & Gas Project in China and Brazil In the spring, Blue Water was awarded an extensive logistics contract in China and Brazil in connection with construction of an FPSO unit - floating production, storage, offloading - to the Oil & Gas sector. The extremely challenging task of providing logistics for materials and equipment to China and Brazil, where the conversion of the FPSO ” Cidade de Ilhabela” will take place, is expected to last two years. The FPSO is being converted from a tank vessel which is 400 metres long and 70 metres beam. Our client is SBM Offshore, who is one of the world’s leading actors within FPSO construction, production, installation and operation. The company operates a fleet of more than 20 of these special and very costly units worldwide and employs 6,000 people. Blue Water already enjoys a cooperation with SBM Offshore, and this new agreement is based on the efficient working relationship between the two companies. ”We have developed a good cooperation with SBM Offshore through our previous

projects, where Blue Water’s expertise in transport and logistics to the oil & gas industry has been a decisive factor in successful projects.”, says Thomas Bek, Global Manager Oil & Gas at Blue Water. Thomas Bek has been involved in the contract negotiation and believes that appointing Blue Water as logistics provider for the ”Cidade de Ilhabela” project is based on a couple of primary reasons. ”Blue Water offers high reliability of delivery and our incorporated IT systems ensure a unique service which will be of benefit to our clients. On top of this, we have a strong set-up in Brazil with local representation and profound expertise within the oil & gas industry”, concludes Thomas Bek. The project comprises several thousand shipments and involves Blue Water’s offices in Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Singapore, Esbjerg, Rotterdam, Aberdeen and Houston. First part of the project takes place in China where the preliminary, basic changes of the tank vessel will be car-

Subsequently the vessel will sail to SBM’s shipyard in Brazil where the final part of the conversion will take place. The entire conversion project is expected to be completed in 2014, after which the total price for the ”Cidade de Ilhabela” will be approx. EUR 3.5 billion. Blue Water is presently involved in several projects in Brazil for SBM Offshore, McDermott, Keppel Fels and Odfjell Drilling among others.

Total Solutions for Project Cargo Blue Water’s project department at the headquarters in Esbjerg assists with transport of all types of project cargo – not only the huge, out-of-gauge units, but all types of cargo demanding special solutions compared to ordinary groupage and standard transport solutions. In recent years, the level of activity has increased immensely in the project department, not least owing to our project specialists’ comprehensive professional knowledge, talents for finding unique solutions and handling of special enquiries. “Our clients’ projects often include transport of ordinary container or trailer goods as well as one or more out-of gauge-units, and here we are able to offer a total solution. It occurs less and less often that we are only involved in transport from one destination to another. Our involvement may start with the contact to the sub-supplier until delivery directly onto the foundation, including e.g. positioning of engines, is completed. We guarantee the

client a one-point-contact for the entire project and a smooth transport process performed in accordance with an overall process plan, explains Anne Skov from the project department. Project transportation also places severe demands on coordination and initial surveys. The project department often makes in-depth surveys of various factors before presenting one or more solutions to the client. Factors taken into consideration include e.g. quays, approaches to the site and crane capacity. In this connection Blue Water has a number of in-house competences: project freight forwarders, shipbrokers, naval architects, stevedore foremen with maritime background, quality, safety and IT people who are able to identify and analyse obstacles and opportunities. The nine experienced colleagues in our project department provide solutions by sea, air, road and rail across short as well as long distances and act as technical support and operational assistance for Blue

AN124 Charter from Egypt to Holland Late one Friday, Blue Water was contacted by one of our customers who needed an urgent transport solution for three tensioners* - each measuring 19 metres in length – from Cairo, Egypt to Holland. Within 24 hours, various solutions were presented to the customer, whereupon it was decided to charter an AN124 aircraft, which is the world’s second longest, custom-built cargo aircraft. When the agreement was signed, a Blue Water representative went to Egypt to coordinate local collection by truck and handling at the airport in cooperation with our longtime agent in Egypt Kadmar Shipping, Upon arrival at Schiphol Airport in Holland, our local office took care of customs clearance of the units and local delivery to the consignee. Blue Water has a long experience in

6

Water’s other Danish offices. Over the years, a lot of projects have been connected with the oil and energy sector, but the client segment has increased to include many other industries, and Blue Water now handles project transports worldwide. “The challenge of handling unique jobs with special equipment and special means of transportation is no longer linked with certain industries. It is our experience that project cargo is today spread out on more industries and different types of clients than before. Our most important focus is always to make sure to handle the assignments in the best possible way and to the clients’ full satisfaction”, concludes Anne Skov. Wind turbine projects are today a strong presence at Blue Water and are therefore handled in a separate wind logistics department.

Handling of Cable Reels for Energinet.dk From the middle of July, Blue Water Aalborg will be storing 84 large cable reels, with a diameter of 4.2 metres, for Energinet.dk in connection with Energinet.dk’s Skagerak 4 project covering cable-laying from Skals at Viborg to Bullbjerg in the Jammer Bay. Blue Water Aalborg will be in charge of the discharging of six trailers, four ship’s calls in the port of Aalborg as well as storage and terminal handling - incoming and outgoing. In connection with the cable-laying itself, Energinet.dk has acquired a special flatbed trailer for the transportation and laying of the cable. When the project is completed at the end of 2014, it will be the fourth electric connection between Denmark and Norway, and it will ensure a higher degree of adaptation of wind power to the Danish electrical system.

Blue Water Shipping A/S offers nationwide Port Agency Services Since the very beginning, Port Agency Services have played an important part in Blue Water. To start with, focus was on the port of Esbjerg, where we today hold a leading position. Over the years, Blue Water has established 14 offices in Denmark, of which the majority are located in Danish ports. With the increassing port activities in recent years in a number of Danish ports - the acquisition of Oestship in Grenaa, the setting up at Lindø and Rødby and the nomination of Blue Water as Danish representative for the worldwide network of shipping agents, Multiport - we have decided to extend our activities to include all Danish ports. Our port activities include shipbroking, chartering, stevedoring, warehousing and terminal facilities, and we handle all types of vessels and cargo related to heavy-lift, ro-ro, cruise, oil, gas, wind energy, bulk and reefer. For this purpose we have employed several experienced shipbrokers. The below persons are today in charge of our port activities:

Intensified Focus on Short Sea

Arne Iversen returns to Esbjerg. Blue Water is developing and strengthening its efforts in the Nordic countries within the interesting segment of short sea shipping of container cargo. As from 1.5, Arne Iversen has taken over as new sales and development manager for this business area. ”Transport-wise, Blue Water holds a strong position – and also on short sea, the combined European transport solutions by sea, rail and road. We will increase focus on the development of this area, as many companies can gain significant benefits

from shipping their cargo by sea instead of by road. A little planning is required, as the transit times are slightly longer, but it does offer a much more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly transport solution”, says Arne Iversen, who will be continuing his long and diverse career with Blue Water through this new position in the company. In total, he has spent 26 years with the company split over three separate periods. His latest position was as General Manager of Blue Water China and Qatar since 2005. Arne has now returned to Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg, the control tower of the short sea segment. Arne’s initial, primary focus will be that of overall development and sales for the Nordic countries. Blue Water’s office in Esbjerg will take care of the day-to-day operation and transport handling in Denmark, with the offices in Oslo, Gothenburg and Helsinki handling clients in the other Nordic countries.

New Name for Oestship On 1.1.2011, Blue Water acquired ship broking company Oestship in Grenaa. Since then, Oestship has been part of Blue Water under its own name. As from 1.7.2012, this has changed, as the office officially changed its name to Blue Water Shipping Grenaa, and became fully integrated in Blue Water. Blue Water Grenaa offers a range of port related services, and the department is a good match for Blue Water’s future development in services such as projects and wind turbine shipments. Today, Blue Water Grenaa is one-pointcontact for Djurs Windpower, and, in respect of the erection of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, the office provides services to and assists the different operators based in Grenaa. ”We have considerable activities in this area, and we have good expectations for the future because of the strong competences and experience, which we have gained over the years, locally, regionally and globally. Our strength is that we have solid, local roots in the community, while also being part of an international company, which has a wide range of compe-

tences and a large global network of business partners. This means that we are now able to provide know-how and services of a very high, international standard”, says Frank Larsen, General Manager of Blue Water Grenaa. This last year, the office has experienced steady growth, and the number of employees has increased along with new assignments and orders. The change to Blue Water Grenaa was marked by an informal reception at the office on Djurslandskajen 1 in Grenaa, where Frank Larsen and the rest of the office staff welcomed a lot of clients, business partners, business contacts and friends to a nice afternoon with food and drink.

Blue Water involved in Femern Belt Tunnel Project The Danish government has made initial decisions on a fixed link between Denmark and Germany. The plan is to build a 17.6 km tunnel from Rødby, Denmark to Puttgarden in Germany. Construction will start in 2015 and the inauguration is expected to take place in 2021. Considerations have been about building a steel bridge or a tunnel of cement floating caissons. The latter of the two possibilities is the solution being worked on today, which is an advantage for the local area, as the production port will be in Rødby. During the entire project, it will be one of the busiest ports in Denmark, and the total price for the project will be approx DKK 40.7 billion (2008 prices). Blue Water sees a lot of possibilities in the project, both in connection with the construction and the operation of the production port, but also with regard to the logistics and services needed for a project involving about 6000 people. In the spring, we therefore established a branch in Rødby – a satellite office under Blue Water Copenhagen. Furthermore we have entered into cooperation with companies of the local business community for the establishment of a 24/7 service company, Femern Belt Services A/S. This new company is also a sales organ for the interest organisation, Femern Belt Suppliers, through which suppliers, such as workmen, warehouse owners, hotels etc., can market their services in connection with the large tunnel project. For a number of companies, collaborating on such large projects is necessary.

India Campaign

The sales campaign also included a costume competititon. Here you can see Aarhus colleagues - Indian style. In cooperation with our long-time Indian business partner, Flyjac - one of India’s biggest agents with more than 26 national offices and a staff exceeding 1,300 - Blue Water has managed to become one of the leading actors in the market in respect of transport to and from India. This is the reason why we decided to increase our focus on India in week 16 and 17 through an extensive campaign including both visits to clients – spiced with curry presents - and internal events including a costume competition between the offices. During the campaign, Flyjac – Mr A.S. Madhavan, MD and National Head, Corporates Mr Uttam Banerjee visited Denmark, and in May, we paid a return visit to Flyjac in India.

Blue Water has a large import traffic from all destinations in India, and several weekly groupage departures by sea from all important gateways as well as regular consolidations from a number of major Indian airports. “We also see an increased growth in the export to India from Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. We expect great things from the Indian market and continuously improve our service to and from India by increasing the departure frequency”, says Jesper Hetebrügge Hansen, who is in charge of our sea and airfreight activities in Scandinavia. India is one of the countries with the biggest financial growth next after China, and is therefore a natural focus for Blue Water.

Increasing Activities in Port of Aarhus One of Blue Water’s 14 Danish offices is located in Aarhus. The company now intensifies its focus in the port of Aarhus by establishing a satellite port office in order to increase its port related activities. Today Blue Water offers stevedoring, storage and various port services in many Danish ports, and the increased focus on the port of Aarhus is only part of a natural development. Over the years, Blue Water has built large stevedore competences and the company has employed a number of specialists as foremen and managers, including former ship’s officers and naval architects. These specialists make it possible for Blue Wa-

ter to offer services and transport and logistic solutions of very high, international standard. Likewise, Blue Water expects synergies with the other port activities – e.g. the company’s great involvement in Grenaa with extensive logistic and port related projects in connection with the erection of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm. Blue Water’s satellite office in Aarhus also performs the function of base office for a number of Blue Water staff involved in central and cross-organisational projects on different locations. This includes for instance core staff within the fields of wind logistic sales, sea/airfreight and HSSEQ.

Blue Water Shipping attains to 1000 Employees 1 August was the day when Blue Water Shipping passed 1000 in number of staff. The same day, nine new colleagues started with Blue Water, which made it necessary to draw lots to choose the “official” no. 1000. Jes Leegaard Jensen, employed as freight forwarder with Blue Water Aalborg, was the lucky winner. In addition to a note of congratulation, he was presented with a gift voucher for the football match between AaB and Esbjerg fB scheduled for 23 September 2012. “Passing 1000 in number of staff is a milestone in Blue Water Shipping’s history. In the mid-eighties, we passed number 100, in 2003 the number was 500 and now we have passed 1000”, says Managing Director Kurt Skov.

Kurt Skov welcomes employee no. 1,000, Jes Leegaard.

Danish Space Capsule Test Blue Water participated when a group of Danish rocket builders from Copenhagen Suborbitals tested their space capsule in June. Blue Water supplied crane equipment for the test which was carried out at Lindoe, close to Odense. The space capsule was tested by dropping it from a crane into the basin to simulate the fall of the capsule by parachute towards the sea after the space journey. “We found the project exciting, and having a suitable crane at disposal at our Lindoe facilities, it was interesting to be part of the Danish space project by sponsoring our equipment and assistance for the drop test”, says Kim Thygesen/Blue Water Lindoe.

Chinese Prototype tested in Denmark Denmark’s position as global centre for innovative wind energy is further manifested with the import of a test wind turbine from China to Denmark. On Monday 16.7, m/v ”Jannes H” arrived at Esbjerg from China with tower sections and components for the first wind turbine prototype having two wings rather than the usual three. Blue Water Shipping has many years of experience with the handling of wind turbines, making the company the natural choice for the unloading of components in the port of Esbjerg.

The Chinese company Envision Energy has chosen Denmark as the natural location for its Global Innovation Center. 30 employees are tasked with the development and testing of new types of wind turbines. The wind turbine components arriving in Denmark, are sourced from several global suppliers, and will be transported to Frederikshavn for assembly, once safely unloaded in Esbjerg. The onshore wind turbine will then be erected for testing at a site in Thyborøn.

Visit from Cargo Services in Copenhagen In late April, Blue Water Copenhagen had the pleasure of welcoming Vivian Zhang, Corporate Marketing Manager of our partner Cargo Services (China) Ltd. in Shanghai, China. During her stay, Vivian seized the opportunity to pay a visit to her colleagues at Blue Water’s offices in Copenhagen, Odense and Esbjerg. Furthermore she made time for visiting existing and potential customers as well as a tour of Tivoli Gardens.

Cruise Visits to Esbjerg

Blue Water Shipping works closely with the Port of Esbjerg and Visit Esbjerg in order to attract more cruise ships to Esbjerg, and this summer, the port succeeded in having three cruise visits compared to no visits at all 2011. Recently, the 109-metre long cruise ship m/v “Star Flyer” from the shipping line Star Clipper called into port. The sailing ship is quite unique, as it is a four-master. Its 170 passengers enjoy a very special atmosphere on board the luxury ship, when it sails in full sail. Following the port call at Esbjerg, m/v “Star Flyer” continued its voyage to Kristiansand in Norway. In July, the cruise vessel m/v ”Deutschland” called at Esbjerg with 392 passengers on board. During its stay in Esbjerg, visits were arranged to Legoland, Fanoe and the historical town of Ribe. m/v ”Deutschland” was launched in 1998 and has capacity for 513 passengers. Previously, the vessel has been used as the setting for the German television programme ”Das Traumschiff”, and later this year it will be used as a hotel ship in connection with the 2012 Summer Olym-

The last cruise visit this year will be m/v “Himmelskibet” arriving in the port of Esbjerg in August. ”We will mostly be seeing the small and more special types of cruise vessels calling at Esbjerg. If we can provide a good set-up for tourists with the possibility to visit interesting places such as Esbjerg, Ribe, Fanoe and Legoland, calls at Esbjerg will be of interest to cruise ships in the future”, says Søren Stougaard, shipbroker at Blue Water Shipping.

Global Offshore Wind 2012 London

Blue Water Danbrit participated at RenewableUK 2012 trade exhibition, which was held in London on 13-14.6. ”Before the exhibition, we attended A2Seas’s golf event as both players and sponsors, and the event was a great start to the exhibition week. In addition to a good round of golf, we had the possibility of networking with the other participants”,

EWEA 2012 Copenhagen

Blue Water participated with two stands at the EWEA 2012 exhibition at Bella Center, Copenhagen in April. Our first stand was located in the Danish pavilion and the second one at the French collective stand. There was great activity at the EWEA, which is one of the most important events in the wind industry. Blue Water’s representatives at the exhibition had lots of meeting activities going on during the exhibition with both existing and potential clients, suppliers and business partners. “The wind turbine industry is experien-

says Jacob Kjærgaard, Business Development Manager at Blue Water. Jacob Kjærgaard participated together with Søren Stougaard and Peter Aarosin, who represented Blue Water Danbrit at the golf event. The exhibition itself stretched over two days with exhibitors from the entire industry. The exhibition was also an opportunity to introduce Robert Ballance, new Business Development Manager at Blue Water Danbrit, to the different operators within UK offshore wind. Robert is employed as per 1.6. at the head office of Blue Water Danbrit in Goole, and is seen here with Søren Stougaard and Jacob Kjærgaard. ”It is an extremely exciting industry, and I am very much looking forward to continuing the work that has already begun in Blue Water Danbrit. Since the mid-nineties, we have been involved in this industry and built a strong set-up, and we continuously use many resources on the strengthening and development of our competences and services”, says Jacob Kjærgaard, Business Development Manager at Blue Water. Blue Water operates worldwide with onshore and offshore wind projects. The company has for instance been involved in two different transports of wind turbines to Australia as well as port operation and other services to the offshore wind farms London Array and Sherringham Shoal and Anholt Offshore Wind Farm.

Windforce 2012 Bremen

In June, Blue Water Shipping participated in Windforce 2012 in Bremen, Germany. This was the first time for an exhibition and conference in Germany to exclusively focus on offshore wind, and Blue Water was represented by Jacob Kjærgaard from Denmark, and Jörn Grüner from Blue Water’s office in Bremen, Germany. ”Considering that this was a pioneer offshore wind exhibition on German soil, the organisers managed to attract representatives from the industry. Overall, the conference program was very interesting with important topics for discussion. It is difficult to attract attention to yet another exhibition in this industry, but we had some very good days in Bremen”, says Jacob Kjærgaard. Jörn Grüner recently joined the Blue Water team, and will be responsible for sales of project cargo in Germany, and in part wind energy.

Cruise Shipping Miami Again this year, we participated in the world’s largest cruise exhibition, as always held at Miami Beach Convention Center. As part of the Danish pavilion under the Danish Exporters’ Association, we had our own stand (30 sqm). During the exhibition, we had the opportunity to meet customers, business partners as well as potential agents to our expanding network. “We have had the pleasure of signing new agency contracts with competent and reliable agents in very strategic places and are still busy looking for new

Offshore Containers for Maersk

In early May, Benny Otzen of Mærsk Olie & Gas in Esbjerg contacted Blue Water

with an enquiry for transport of 357 offshore containers of different sizes from the supplier in Dalian, China to Mærsk Olie & Gas in Esbjerg. Right away, we started investigating various transport options based on price and transit time. It soon became clear that the best solution would be a part charter which was approved by Mærsk Olie & Gas. A suitable tonnage was found and loading commenced on 24.5. Following a successful loading operation, the vessel

Discharging Sailing Boats in Brest Blue Water Brest acted as agent for the m/v “Martha” calling at Brest on 5.6. Our Brest office was nominated agent by the shipping line Soreidom in Paris, operating conventional and project cargo vessels between Europe and the Caribbean. The assignment covered return transport of 14 Figaro sailing boats after participation in a transatlantic race between Concarneau in France and Saint Barth in the Caribbean Sea. The stevedoring operation was carried out through our partner, ADS, and was supervised by SDV La Rochelle who was responsible for the transport from Saint Barth to Brest.

The discharging of the sailing boats directly from the ship into the water was performed successfully within 12 hours, and the boats were ready for transit to Paimpol on the north coast of Brittany for their next race which started on 24.6.

Jeanne d’Arc Mission in Rio de Janeiro A group of officer cadets had embarked on one of the three French Navy BPC vessels, the brand-new “Dixmude”, for this year’s world tour, Mission Jeanne d’Arc. Brest Metropole Oceane - led by the mayor, Urban Council in collaboration with the Technopole Brest-Iroise Science Park, Brest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Finistère County Council and various private companies - had arranged an economic and scientific mission to one of the vessel’s ports of call. This time, the port of call was Rio de Janeiro, and for this reason Mogens Nielsen from Blue Water Brest participated in the mission. Blue Water in Rio had arranged a special cruise of the bay of Rio de Janeiro for which we invited the mayor of Brest, François Cuillandre, as well as the President of Brest Chamber of Commerce –

left Dalian on 25.5. bound for Europe with arrival at Esbjerg in the middle of July for the planned discharging on 16.7. As the supplier’s original stowage plan was changed before loading at Dalian, we were regrettably unable to get all units on board. A remaining 28 offshore units had to be shipped separately from Dalian to Esbjerg on 4 x 40’ flat racks.

Visit to Chinese Container Terminal

Blue Water France attended for the second time Sial Shanghai Food Show, which took place from 9-11.5. As representative for Blue Water, Fabrice Rolland observed that the number of meat and food suppliers to the Chinese market is continuously increasing and of worldwide origin. Just before the exhibition, CMA CGM took the opportunity to invite Blue Water and the French meat suppliers, Jestin, to visit the impressive, new Shanghai container terminal, Yangshan Deep Water Port. The terminal opened in three phases from 2004 to 2010 on the Yangshan Island, which is linked with the mainland via the 32-kilometre Donghai Bridge. The afternoon the visit took place, the seven berths of terminal 3 and 4 were occupied and the 26 port cranes were all in operation at the same time –an impressive sight indeed.

Cruise Season in Brest / Lorient Blue Water Brest is acting as agent for Office Maritime Monégasque, who is general agent for HAL (Holland America Line) in France. Four cruise ships called at Brest and Lorient this spring/summer. First ship, m/v “Rotterdam” (1,300 pax) called at Brest on 30.4 and m/v “Prinsendam” (771 pax) on 26.5. Both ships arrived from Lisbon, after a cruise from the Caribbean Sea to Europe, with destination Cherbourg, England and the Netherlands. Les Tonnerres de Brest 2012 In keeping with tradition, Blue Water France participated again this year in the international sailing event ”Les Tonnerres de Brest 2012” which, by the way, was the 20th anniversary of this maritime festival. To start with, our Russian/French colleague Elena Gadzhieva and Mogens Nielsen General Manaher of our French offices, were invited to join Brest’s mayor, François Cuillandre, and the ambassador of the event, the famous sailor from Brest Olivier de Kersauson, to welcome the Russian delegation on board a big supply vessel from the Bourbon Group on the roads of Brest. “Incidentally, Olivier de Kersauson, who holds several world records in sailing around the globe, is a very good friend of the house”, says Mogens – “as he is the owner of the building containing our beautiful office placed in the middle of Brest Traffic Harbour”. After this, we were invited to sail in the bay of Brest on our stevedoring partner ADS’ sailing ship on the French Bastille Day, Saturday 14.7. On board we celebrated ADS’ 20th birthday together with several of our loyal long-time potato clients including Germicopa, Gopex, Elorn Plants and Triskalia.

Blue Water’s reception on 16.7

As usual, Blue Water France also hosted an event for our local customers during the festival. Monday 16.7, we had several clients for a cocktail reception at the office followed by a cruise around the sailing ships. Furthermore we acted as port agent for the following three beautiful, old ships: ”Stad Amsterdam” - ”Götheborg” - and ”Sjokurs”. Last but not least, we were again invited by our very good potato client Gopex, managed by Pierre Cadiou, to sail on the old German sailing ship ”Sigandor” (104 years old). This year, Gopex had invited clients from no less than 26 different countries around the world.

USAPEEC Summer Event

For more than 10 years Blue Water has been a member of USAPEEC (USA Poultry & Egg Export Council). During this period, we have formed friendships with many of the organisation’s members, whom we today take pride in assisting with reefer logistics. It is important for us to understand the challenges the US exporters face when selling their products to e.g. countries on the African continent – a region of high potential for any exporter/supplier, and a place which currently sees tremendous growth, making it the third-fastest growing region in the world. From a Blue Water US perspective, Africa is one of the areas in which we are experts. The monthly number of 40´reefer containers handled by our Fort Lauderdale office in Florida accumulates 700-

800 units. The main commodity is frozen poultry being exported to countries like Angola, Ghana and Benin. The annual USAPEEC summer seminar took place in Southern California in June this year, and was as always an interesting event filled with discussions relating to current and future potential markets for US poultry. Victor Sapp/Blue Water New York and Kim Thue Andersen/Fort Lauderdale participated in the event. The agenda, as well as the highly anticipated “International Marketing Forum” were packed with interesting subjects. The Africa discussion was chaired by Zelda Sharp, who gave a fine presentation. The event came to a close when Thierry Murad stepped down as board chairman, and Chaz Wilson assumed the role for the next 12 months.

Seismic Investigations in Greenland Blue Water has from mid-July established a provisional satellite office in Upernavik, Greenland in connection with the servicing of three survey vessels and nine support and supply vessels for Polarcus and one survey vessel and two support and supply vessels for CGG Veritas. Polarcus and CGG will be carrying out seismic explorations for oil and gas in Baffin Bay north-west of Upernavik for Shell and Mærsk (Polarcus) and Conaco/ Philips (CGG Veritas) respectively. Together with our agent in Upernavik, we expect great activity in connection with ship’s arrivals, which comprises supply of provisions, equipment, crew change, carriage and many other odd jobs, during the four-month project.

Joint venture in Belfast Blue Water has partnered with Michael F. Ewings Shipping in relation to port agency and marine-related activities in Belfast, Northern Ireland. ”With its new quay facilities, I have no doubt that Belfast Port will become an important location to the offshore wind industry in relation to future projects in e.g. the Irish Sea. This fact makes Belfast an extremely attractive location for Blue Water”, says Kurt Skov, founder and CEO of Blue Water. ”We have great experience from numerous, large, international projects, but it is difficult to provide first class service without local knowledge. This is why we have decided to enter into a joint venture with Michael F. Ewings Shipping, which has a strong set-up in Belfast and focuses on the values required from an active agent and operator. In addition, Michael F. Ewings has valuable experience from

This fact has naturally had an impact on our decision to enter into a cooperation”, says Kurt Skov. The agreement means that Blue Water will

be establishing an office in Belfast, bringing the company’s total number of offices up to 54. The cooperation agreement between Blue Water and Michael F. Ewings was signed at Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg

2006 Based on a new logistics agreement with the cruise line, Holland America Line, we establish an office in Fort Lauderdale, USA. Another office is opened in Milano, Italy. New Works of Art adorn the Headquarters Meeting room Rømø 1

The 13 conference rooms of our new headquarters deserve something special, something unique as decoration of the walls. Last year, the southwestern part of Jutland got its own national park – National Park Wadden Sea. As this park is right outside our windows, it is a natural choice of motif for our wall decoration. We have divided our conference rooms into four groups named after the nearby islands: Langli, Fanø, Mandø and Rømø. Designer Nienke Johansen, flung herself enthusiastically into the decoration project. “We are incredibly happy with the result, which is often the object of great admiration from our guests and not least our own staff, who enjoy the finishing touch to our headquarters every day – Nienke’s magnificent pictures composed in a unique way. When spending time in the rooms for meetings or events, we cannot help enjoying the pictures, discovering new motifs and angles every time” says Gyrithe Skov.

Nienke has the following remarks to the pictures: It is my intention to present the four islands - Langli, Fanø, Mandø and Rømø - in a way that gives each room its own atmosphere so that the collection of pictures forms a whole. The motifs are created on the basis of my own photos taken over six months in order to catch the autumn sun high in the sky, the dark and stormy days of December as well as the bright days of spring. The islands have many common characteristics – the entire National Park Wadden Sea has its own characteristics which differ from the rest of Denmark. I have decided to focus on the accessibility to the islands, which is different for each island and is of importance for the life on the islands: Rømø is connected to Jutland by a 10-kilometre embankment created from sand stabilized with boulders. Mandø can also be reached by car, however, only at low water. By tractor bus driving directly on the bottom of the sea following a special signposted route (Ebbevej) or by bus or private car following a gravel road (Låningsvejen). Daily tide-related bus service (tide changes twice a day). Fanø has a ferry connection with several hourly departures. Langli: No admittance most of the year, as the island is first and foremost a birds’ habitat. Late in the summer, when access is permitted, the island can be reached by boat or on foot at low water.

Canteen

Meeting room Fanø 2

The end wall of our canteen depicts Blåvand Lighthouse Denmarks westernmost point, that has given us inspiration to the name Blue Water Shipping. The picture is composed of many photos: In rough weather and in bright sunshine - the remains of the sunny, bright blue sky can be seen around the lighthouse lamp. At the bottom of the picture, you can see part of the beach after a storm. People searching for amber cast up by the sea.

2007 At the end of 2006/the beginning of 2007, two new offices are established in Bremen, Germany and Gothenburg, Sweden. Due to increasing activities in Greenland, an office is opened in Ilulissat. On 21.4, Kurt Skov transfers 75% of the company shares to a commercial foundation “the Blue Water Foundation” to secure Blue Water’s future; its identity, independence and growth.

The Suprime Trial of Strength

Blue Water lends its name to Sports Hall -

BLUE WATER DOKKEN On 5.10, the inauguration of the rebuilt Stadionhal (sports hall) in Esbjerg will take place. The transformation of the old hall into an ultramodern sports hall with room for 3,000 spectators totalled almost DKK 60 million. Here the spectators will in particular be able to enjoy top class men’s and ladies’ handball in the Danish Premier League which is among the best in the world. The rebuilding project is based on the men’s team, Ribe-Esbjerg HH, and the ladies’ team, Team Esbjerg, which are both sponsored by Blue Water. The sports hall is next-door neighbour to the most impressive football stadium in Denmark, Blue Water Arena, the home ground of EFB/Esbjerg Football Club which is now back in the Danish Premier League. The new sports hall will bear the name Blue Water Dokken because Blue Water Shipping and Pedersen Gruppen, who is

behind the ”Dokken” project in the port of Esbjerg, have decided to be its name sponsors for the next three years. This is a good solution for all parties involved - the clubs, the sponsors and the town - says Mayor Johnny Søtrup. Bjarne Pedersen from Pedersen Gruppen is pleased with the joint sponsorship: “Pedersen Gruppen and Blue Water Shipping are both strongly involved in handball in Esbjerg as joint owners of Team Esbjerg, and it is therefore only natural to have a joint name sponsorship. The name shows that there is a great synergy in handball”.

Blue Water Play Centre

On 23.6, Martin Pavel/Blue Water Oslo participated, together with his brother Even, in the Supreme Trial of Strength – a 540 km cycling race from Trondheim to Oslo. The training programme to be in great form started around Christmas and included running, cross-country skiing and 2000 km cycling. The first 200 km of the race, with 2600 m altitude, went smoothly. Then we faced knee problems and headwind. Without painkillers and our iron will, we would never have made it (4050 m altitude). We came in after 28 hours, overjoyed, as number 1600 out of 2500 riders – and we are already contemplating to repeat the success next year, says a proud Martin Pavel from Oslo.

Summerparty in Aalborg

“Family get-together” was the order of the day at this year’s company party for the colleagues of Esbjerg, Billund, Herning and Padborg. A fabulous event, arranged by our local staff club committee, who had invited our staff, their partners and children to Blue Water’s own Play Centre. Due to the unpredictable Danish summer weather, the scene of the day was moved to a local sports centre in Esbjerg, which held a variety of bouncy castles, climbing walls, rodeo bull, mini golf, bungee-run, human football, face painting and gladiator arena. Even a hot dog stand was provided to satisfy our hunger, and it was so popular that

2008 The business platform in Norway expands with Unifeeder’s freight forwarding activities. Blue Water sets up an office in Doha, Qatar. 16

in the end, the hot dogs were sold out. Outside the centre, a lot of the male persons challenged themselves to swing the hammer in an attempt to hit the bell. Soon they had a competition going resulting in frustration when the hammer, technique and the muscular strength did not work together. The event was a great success, and many of the kids refused to leave when Blue Water’s Play Centre closed for this year. In the evening, our staff and their partners partied and dined in the splendid surroundings of our headquarters in Esbjerg.

Saturday 9.6. was the day when our colleagues of Blue Water Aalborg found their inner cowboys. They enjoyed a fantastic day which included horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and throwing the axe, and everybody showed enthusiasm and style. The day ended with good food and watching the European match between Holland and Denmark on television on the first floor of our new office.

2010 2009 Blue Water establishes an office in Port Klang, Malaysia.

Blue Water wins a contract, with the Danish Defence, covering transport to/from North America. Blue Water Port Services provide services from Danish ports to Siemens Wind Power. Blue Water offices are established in Shanghai, China and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to handle projects for the oil, gas and wind energy sectors.

Camp Denmark Carsten A. Olsen (to the left) at Camp Denmark. Blue Water was appointed transport and logistics partner by Camp Denmark in connection with EURO 2012, the European football championship, which was held in Poland and Ukraine in June. Our job was transport of tents for the 500 Danish supporters who had chosen to stay at the camp. Pavilions and tents for the camp were erected in the Nordic spirit in “Buhta Vikingiv” (Viking Bay), approx 15 km out of town. The Danish national team played two out of their three matches in this town against Portugal and Germany respec-

tively. Blue water was also in charge of customs formalities in Denmark and assisted with customs clearance in Ukraine. The main part of the shipment, which consisted of tents, was transported back and forth on ATA carnet permitting free import and export to/from such events. “Camp Denmark” was put into reality through a cooperation between DBU, TV2 and tour operator Take Offer. In addition to the “Camp Denmark” project, Blue Water was, at the request of Adidas Denmark, responsible for the dispatch of supporter’s shirts, which were part of a package solution for the Danish supporters. Carsten A. Olsen, Blue Water Herning personally collected the shirts from the truck, after they had been cleared through customs, and delivered them at the camp at the very moment the Danish supporters arrived. The shirts were delivered to the project manager for “Camp Denmark”, Jacob Lauesen, who was happy and relieved that they arrived in time.

Open House in the Port of Aalborg On Sunday 17.6, Aalborg Port Authorities held open house, and on this occasion Blue Water had a joint stand in Warehouse 1 together with other companies located at the harbour area in Aalborg. Here we presented Blue Water’s activities, in particular in relation to cargo to Greenland. Most visitors were surprised by the number of Blue Water offices worldwide – 54 – and our three Greenland locations were also a positive surprise to them. In connection with the open house, we gave a guided tour of our new impressive

Aalborg office to show the visitors how a modern transport and logistics company looks and functions from inside.

Tour de Paris

Once again, Blue Water was represented on Team Rynkeby*s “Tour de Paris” as Mette Rolund Sørensen from the accounts department in Esbjerg participated with Team Bramming. “It was a fantastic tour, but also hard work – the experience of a lifetime for sure. We had all kinds of weather – from cloudburst to bright sunshine and headwind, tailwind and cross wind. The best of it all was the companionship. From the start, the team spirit was in top and the riders helped each other through the hardships. The climax of the tour was riding into the streets of Paris seeing all the people – and in particular my own family - who had travelled to Paris to meet us” says Mette, who got a prize for her drive and cheerfulness during the tour.

Honorary Member of Danish Freight Forwarders’ Association At the general assembly of the Danish Freight Forwarders’ Association in the spring, former Director of Blue Water, Jørn Bøllund, was nominated honorary member. According to the association, Jørn Bøllund has taken an impressive share in the work of the association as long-time local chairman in Esbjerg. For many years, Jørn was also a member of the executive committee. In addition, he has been chairman of Special Committee Education and an indefatigable proponent for more education and training in this business. Jørn retired last summer (2011) having formed part of Blue Water since the start in 1972, when the company was founded by Kurt Skov, who is still the managing director. Naturally, Jørn felt flattered and very happy for the honour, which came as a big surprise for him.

Jubilees Silver

10 years

Poul Aarre/Blue Water Aarhus can celebrate his silver jubilee on 1.9. Poul originally comes from the freight forwarding company Samson in Herning, but moved to Esbjerg when Stena Portlink opened a new service to England. It was precisely Poul’s great experience with the UK traffic that made him become head of Blue Water’s UK department in Esbjerg in 1987. The challenges have since then been many – e.g. 5 years’ residence in England for the whole family followed by the appointment as general manager of our Aarhus office. No challenge is too big for Poul, Today, Aarhus has grown into one of our biggest offices. In addition, Poul is in charge of the entire Scandinavian traffic and the offices in Oslo, Gothenburg and Helsinki. Poul takes pride in participating in various events of the company and the Aarhus office. He is for instance former Blue Water badminton champion (Kurt is still grumbling). While living in England, Poul played handball on the British national team. He is a real fighter. Today, sailing is enough for Poul, who, in the summer, spends a large part of his leisure time sailing, weather permitting. Poul and his family also fancy holidays to faraway destinations. The story goes that on a holiday to Cuba, Poul and his wife, Helle, gave some hitchhikers a lift, and after they got off the car, two suitcases were missing. Poul and Helle live in Fredericia and they have three children – the twin daughters, Ann Kirstine and Marie Louise, and a son Frederik.

Anders Frølund will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 21.10. Anders came in from the cold when Blue Water’s activities increased in the port of Esbjerg. To start with, his primary responsibility was to look after the goods, of one of our customers, at warehouse 9. When this activity moved to Kolding, Anders was transferred to the quay area where the wind turbine activities were expanding. Anders is a competent reach stacker operator based at our RO-RO terminal in the South Port. It is amazing to see how fast he can move the containers, and with pinpoint accuracy like nobody else. On 1.11, Per Bertelsen – also called Pjevs – has been employed with Blue Water for 10 years. Pjevs started as trainee at warehouse 1, when it was still a groupage terminal. In his second year of apprenticeship, he moved to the quayside to operate the big machines. Not many of the old hands were willing to listen to the young lad. However, once they had seen Pjevs handle the big machines they gave in. Pjevs has a special talent for operating all kinds of vehicles. Even when we have some very old junk machines arriving on the RO-RO ferry, and everybody has given up, Pjevs will know how to start the engines. Pjevs is a great lad – though very talkative at times – but very popular among his colleagues and the regular visitors to the harbour. Being a bachelor, Pjevs finds it difficult to meet on time, and when he arrives, he is

Management Training In April and May, 15 Danish Blue Water managers completed a management training course: Management put into Practice. The course was arranged through business academy Rybners in Esbjerg, with Claes Jensen as teacher, and included four modules, project and final examination. The participants have studied motivation, coaching, change management, teamwork, feedback and the difficult conversation. The modules were a mix of theory and practical examples from the working day. Participants: 18

• Brian Grandt Pedersen – foreman at the groupage terminal in Esbjerg • Brian Johnsen – project manager at the office in Grenaa • Henning Andresen – foreman at the terminal in Hirtshals • Jan Nørgaard – deputy manager at the office in Hirtshals • Kasper Nielsen – manager of airfreight import in Copenhagen • Kenneth Lykke Lauritsen – manager in the Greenland department in Copenhagen • Kim Fialla – manager in the project department in Esbjerg

always in a good mood and with a catching gaiety. On 1.9, Christopher P. Winkel will be celebrating his 10th jubilee with Blue Water. Having graduated in computer science, Christopher threw himself into Lotus Notes and was self-employed for a period until Blue Water succeeded in laying our hands on him. Over the years, Christopher has been involved in development of IT systems in Lotus Notes for in-house as well as external use. Christopher is the originator of quite a lot of our systems, e.g. SMS, Staff, BLS and the fish system. Christopher has always suffered from the same disease as a lot of other IT people. He is a gadget geek – and it is hard to find anything that has not been tested by him. It is typical for Christopher that he does not choose the same trend as the rest of the consumers. It has to be nerdy. No matter whether it works or not. In private life, Christopher is married to Hanne and they have two daughters, Naia and Liana. He is also interested in sports. So far, he has tried out Badminton, golf and football. You can always keep a conversation going on the subject of AGF (football club) – but for Christopher it has to be nerdy, and once the big thing was Frisbee golf. Christopher’s motto is: morality is good, double morality is twice as good. He is no doubt in the top 3 when it comes to cake eaters of the IT department – but he does not like his own three girls to eat too many sweet things. • Klaus Odby Jensen – manager in the agency department in Esbjerg • Lars Søvsø Jensen – manager in the airfreight department in Esbjerg • Mads Paugan Jensen – manager in the airfreight department in Billund • Marianne Muff Førrisdahl – project manager in the IT department in Esbjerg • Mette Kelstrup Madsen – manager in the airfreight department in Billund • Petter Jull – coordinator in the IT department in Esbjerg • Sven Erik Ladegaard – manager in the Norwegian department in Aarhus • Søren Svennum – manager in the reefer deep sea department in Aalborg
