Global contract with Enhanced Drilling The locations of Blue Water’s offices are vital for the cooperation, which include sea, air and road logistics Enhanced Drlling (EDR) is an international company, originally established in Norway, and today represented with their own offices in Europe, USA, Asia and Australia. Their main focus is managed pressure cementing, dual gradient drilling and cutting systems and they have more than 25 years of experience as a global provider of innovative solutions to the Oil & Gas industry. “We have had a good dialogue with EDR and we are well-prepared for the assignment as we understand their needs. Geographically, we are located close to each other in several places, such as Baku, Houston, Rio de Janeiro, Bergen and Aberdeen which will all be involved in the project. This is of great importance for

our cooperation as well as providing the best service”, says Morten Iversen from Blue Water’s office in Stavanger, which is responsible for the cooperation. “Both Blue Water and Enhanced Dril ling aim at delivering high quality and service and we keep our promises. We see it as a good sign that we share the same values and feel certain that our cooperation will become a success”, says Thomas Bek, who is responsible for Blue Water’s global oil and gas activities. The agreement runs until the end of 2017 with 2 x 1 year options for prolongation of the contract.

Acquisition in Norway The Norwegian transport company Partner Solution is now part of Blue Water In recent years, Blue Water has increased its activities and market shares in Norway, Sweden and Finland through dedicated employees, flexible transport solutions and excellent service. These values are shared by Partner Solution and its 15 employees who provide transport and logistics to an array of clients from the company’s offices in Oslo, Stavanger and Bergen. Through the acquisition of Partner Solution, Blue Water will have more than 60 employees in Norway, which enables the company to provide its clients with improved service. “We are strengthening our set-up in the Norwegian market, where Blue Water are already represented with offices in Oslo and Stavanger, and it is our ambition to continue our good development from the recent years. Partner Solution has strong competences in sea, air and road transport, where Blue Water also holds a strong position. In addition, we work within dedicated segments such as Oil & Gas, Project Transports, Cruise Logistics and Port Services”, says Poul Aarre, who is responsible for Blue Water’s activities in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

airfreight activities in Norway as well as for the offices in Bergen and Stavanger. “I am pleased with this solution. Blue Water is a strong organisation with many possibilities, and we share the same values of focusing on the clients, being close to them and having a competent staff. Together, we will gain a strong presence in Norway and will be able to offer our clients more and better transport solutions and services than before”, says Lars Ophus.

The clients in focus On a corporate level, the acquisition in Norway is part of the objective to strengthen Blue Water’s position in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland through organic growth and acquisitions. “We want to b e clos e to our clients and provide the best so lutions while having a close dialogue with them. We therefore see good possibilities in the Scandinavian market, where we have built a strong organisation through an increase in local presence”, says Poul Aarre.

OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Large-scale supplier to the energy sector Earlier this year, Blue Water secured a contract with the EPC company Technip to provide logistics services – including chartering of vessels and helicopters, loading/discharging, sea fastening, welders, accommodation etc. - in connection with the execution of the subsea Valdemar & Roar

Gas Lift projects on the Danish continental Shelf in the North Sea. The contract was secured through Blue Water’s office in Stavanger. Technip is a major global EPC company, with head office in Paris and with 38,000 employees, providing engineering, procurement and construction

for the energy industry. “From June, a PSV (Platform Supply Vessel) will berth at Esbjerg ten times to load in total two riser caissons and 32 spools manufactured by another one of our clients, SUB-C Partner”, says Peter Gysing Nielsen, who is Head of the Agency department at

Blue Water Esbjerg. Projects like this involve several Blue Water departments in order to provide a full flexible 24/7 service of the highest quality, and being a “one stop shop”, Blue Water has proven to be an important asset to the overall success of such projects.

Great honour

New gas power plant Blue Water recently signed a contract with the Danish project engineering company Semco Maritime. The contract covers logistics support for the construction of a new gas power plant in Panama. The shipments for Panama will come from several locations worldwide, but the majority will originate from France. Blue Water Marseilles will coordinate the ship4

ments out of France and will among other things arrange for line item check, export packing and ocean freight to Panama. “We are proud to be selected as the logistics provider for this project. This is yet another testimony of the good cooperation between Semco Maritime and Blue Water”, says Thomas Bek, Global Head of Blue Water’s Oil & Gas activities.

A few months ago, Gianti Logistics, Tbilisi celebrated their 10th anniversary. Shalva Gabechava, the General Manager of Blue Water’s Tbilisi office, had the great honour of being among the invited guests. Gianti Logistics and Blue Water Georgia have enjoyed many years of partnership and friendship and the list of projects handled in cooperation is long. At the party, our Tbilisi office, together with several other companies, also had the great pleasure of being awarded an honourable certificate by Gianti for our trust, partnership and confidence in the company. OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Projects in Marseille The office in Marseille is an important part of Blue Water’s oil, gas and project network. The team works closely together with other Blue Water offices in handling many challenging assignments.

Challenging project to Romania Blue Water Marseilles recently completed a challenging assignment for a client in La Rochelle in France. The client, who produces hydraulic/electric lifting and laying equipment for pipelay operators, needed to move two units with a combined weight of 235 mt to Romania. The main issue was the loading at the quayside in La Rochelle. The quayside restrictions created some challenges and special attention to the loading operation, which was performed with shore cranes, was required. The load planning was done in close cooperation between Blue Water Marseille’s project department and the transport engineering department in Blue Water Esbjerg. “One of the strengths of Blue Water is our many in-house competences. By combining these competences, we are able to handle the most challenging transport projects”, says Lionel Guildbaud, Oil & Energy Project Director France.

Tunnel under the streets of London At the end of May, Blue Water Marseille executed the first shipment of a newly

secured project. An international joint venture, led by Alstom, has been awarded a contract to fit out and commission the 21-kilometre Crossrail (twin tunnels) currently being bored under the streets of London Part of the Blue Water scope was to transport a total of 38 rail wagons, which are part of a cement train used during the Crossrail project. 20 wagons were collected in Narbonne, France and the remaining 18 flat wagons in Mezy, France and transported by rail tracks to the Eurotunnel. When across the English Channel, the challenging task of moving the rail wagons from the tracks to special trailers started. “Several challenges had to be solved before the final delivery could take place at the job site; among other things getting the approval, to use the Eurotunnel, from the authorities”, says Cédric Novion, Project Manager at Blue Water Marseille. The final rail wagon has been delivered to the site and the project is “on track” and the Crossrail trains are expected in operation in 2018. Several challenges had to be solved before the final delivery could take place at the job site.

The first job for North Equipment was fi nished on time and the foundation drilling rig reached the exhibition as promised.

Getting there on time Nearly 17 metres long, 2.5 metres wide, 3.5 metres high and weighing 42 tonnes. Those were the dimensions of the foundation drilling rig that Blue Water Manchester transported to the Geotechnica exhibition held in Warwick in July. “We collected the rig in Monte Cassino near Naples in Italy. From here, the route went shortly into Austria, through Germany into Holland were we reached the ferry in Rotterdam. When the ferry arrived at Hull, the rig was trucked to the final destination and reached the exhibition on time”, says Steve Townsend, Sales Manager from Blue Water Manchester. The transport was carried out for North Equipment Ltd. and hopefully this business relationship will grow stronger in the future.

Possibilities ahead In June, Dan Nissen and Hanne Bärthel, both from Blue Water Esbjerg, visited our office in Tbilisi, Georgia. The office has experienced a positive development in 2015 and the General Manager Shalva Gavechava and his dedicated team see great possibilities for the future. In the picture Hanne and Dan are having dinner – which included lots of local specialities – together with our Tbilisi colleagues.

Silke Fieselmann was employed in July 2015, and Harald Pleier started in Düsseldorf in 2014.

New faces in Düsseldorf In 2014, Blue Water established a minor office in Düsseldorf with one employee handling business for the entire region. In July 2015, the second employee was employed an already now, it has been agreed that another new colleague will join the team in October. So far, the office is working under the umbrella of the Blue Water office in Bremen, but the plan is to make it an independent office. The primary business is general cargo and especially road freight Scandinavia. As part of the Blue Water fam ily, the office naturally has a large network enabling the team to handle all types of other freight requests as well. The future objective is to develop the Blue Water brand in the Rhein-Ruhr region and contribute to establishing a better sales structure for the northern part of Germany.

Celebrating 50 years of trade For 50 years, Danish Export Association has created networks within fishing, marine, offshore, wind energy, cruise, mining, railway, water technology and rehab. The purpose is to share knowledge, create a good environment and promote Danish companies in relation to export. The 50th anniversary was celebrated in May with a gala in the heart of Copenhagen. The royal family was represented by HRH Prince Henrik and from Blue Water, Kurt and Gyrithe Skov and Claus Bæk and his wife, Rie, participated. Claus is respon-

sible for Blue Water’s Exhibition department. Blue Water has cooperated with the association and been a member since the seventies when the association was only working within marine and fishing. “We handle worldwide transports for the Danish exporters when they participate in exhibitions arranged by the Export Association. We have always enjoyed a fantastic cooperation with everyone in the Danish Export Association as well as with Standesign, who builds all the joint stands”, says Claus Bæk.

Swift solutions Arranging a triathlon competition with participants from all over the world is a huge challenge. Therefore, Sonne & Steensgaard Aps contacted Blue Water in Herning to get some help in connection with the ChallengeDenmark event in Herning. “Blue Water really jumped the gun whenever we needed help at the last minute. The assignments were not only solved perfectly, the cooperation also put our minds at ease because we knew that the logistics would be handled without complications whenever we called Blue Water”, says Jacob SonneSchmidt from Sonne & Stensgaard ApS. “Blue Water has helped us a lot and been a good support for us in connection with the logistics. We have called them late at night and they have delivered whatever we needed the next morning. We are already looking forward to next year’s event”, says Jacob Sonne-Schmidt.

Network in West Africa Earlier this year, Lionel Guilbaud and Johnny Mortensen from Blue Water’s Aid & Relief team travelled through East Africa to streamline our local agency network. Now, they have also visited partners and potential agents in the western part of Africa. “For our clients, it is important to use a reliable freight forwarder with the strongest possible network in Africa, as the challenges are sometimes extreme and very different from what we see in Europe”, says Lionel Guilbaud. He was actually born in Africa and has worked in

various African countries for 14 years. In addition to his corporate role in respect of Africa, he also performs the functions of Blue Water France’s Oil-& Gas Project Director based in Marseille. “We must be very proactive in regard to challenges and changes in the local procedures, routings and accessible roads. For Aid Cargo, there are special rules and special import permits to be obtained - and we cannot allow mistakes, which will cost time and money for the various aid organisations”.

Kitchens to Estonia

Good service pays off Late one evening, Blue Water Dubai received an aircraft part coming in from Copenhagen. Time was running short as the part was for an AOG (aircraft on ground – an aircraft kept on the ground until repaired). After the customs inspection, the shipment was loaded on a trailer and escorted by Blue Water staff to Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies’ (ADAT) repair yard. Once again, the shipment had to undergo customs inspection before being

released to ADAT. Based on the service provided for this shipment, Blue Water soon received another request. “Our high service level was the basis for us being chosen to handle a similar shipment from Dubai to Sweden via Amsterdam. We always say that we will provide excellent service – and this is a clear indication that we live up to what we say”, explains Arne Iversen, who is the General Manager for Blue Water Dubai.

Blue Water Hirtshals has in close cooperation with Blue Water Herning handled the transport of 200 kitchens to a large project in Estonia. “Estonia is a new market for us, which is why a close cooperation with both Blue Water and our client is important for us in order to make both ends meet. We hope that we will win similar projects on this market in the future”, says Jan Jeppesen, Sales Executive at the Danish kitchen manufacturer HTH Køkkenforum. Following the thorough preliminary work and a test shipment, with the purpose of testing the delivery time and efficiency, the remaining shipments went according to plan.

Shelters to refugees

FL: Barbara Belli and Kelly Delle Fave promote Blue Water New York.

Promotion in New York

The Qushtapa refugee camp in Iraq has received a number of shipments of the new and durable shelters called Lifeshelter®. They are designed and developed by the Danish company Evershelter and distributed by Real Relief Habitat. Blue Water’s Aid & Relief team was responsible for the transport. “Evershelter and Real Relief Habitat have created a strong and affordable No. 110

shelter, which can be reused. Lifeshelters® have now been distributed to various locations in both the Middle East and Africa.”, says Johnny Mortensen, Head of Blue Water’s Aid & Relief department in Billund. “Lifeshelters® can last many years and provide better conditions for the refugees”, says Johnny Mortensen.

For the second year, Blue Water New York attended the third Annual Raritan Business Center Fair to promote the company and our services. Blue Water is a tenant of the Raritan Business Center and the event is a venue for networking within the business center. This way, we get an opportunity not only to meet our neighbours, but to meet potential customers and vendors to support our business. Last year, we met with a client at the fair whom we have recently supported in a warehousing project. More than 50 businesses attended the event and had tables to display company information, market their brand and raffle off prizes.

REEFER LOGISTICS

Agreeing on the strategy In July, Blue Water’s Reefer Sea Freight division had their annual meeting at the head office in Esbjerg and everyone contributed to a very interesting and fruitful event where markets, strategies and fu-

ture initiatives for the group were decided and agreed upon. Two very productive days with discussions, internal and external presentations and also important, socialising across the offices.

OFFICE PRESENTATION

Netherlands

Rotterdam Manager: Hans Poiesz Established: 1981 Employees: 28 Primary activities:

Blue Water Rotterdam was originally esta blished on the basis of conventional reefer vessels carrying food products to the Middle East. The office has grown considerably since its start in 1981, from a few employees to its present staff of 28 colleagues, and offers a variety of services. The office is situated in the suburb of Rotterdam, Barendrecht, close to the main infrastructure connecting the port of Rotterdam with Central Europe. The primary activities still include reefer transport import & export, but also cruise and marine logistics, general cargo deep sea import & export, general cargo road, oil & energy and projects and warehousing are offered. Furthermore the office provides customs services import & export. “In the past, the office has been involved in a number of projects. For instance the FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, Off-

MARINE LOGISTICS

Holland America Conference

Preparing next season

FL: Kurt Skov/Blue Water Esbjerg, Zaida Pena/Blue Water Miami, Lisette T. Munk/Blue Water Esbjerg and Turi Lagomarsini/Director Logistics for Princess Cruises/Holland America Group.

Zaida Pena from Blue Water Miami has together with Kurt Skov and Lisette Trab Munk from Blue Water Esbjerg participated in a suppliers’ seminar arranged by our good and long-time cruise client Holland America Group. The event took place in Coral Gables, Florida. It was an

interesting seminar which offered plenty of opportunity to discuss logistics and gain an insight in the internal development of Holland America Group. We also had the opportunity to meet with former as well as new employees of Holland America.

The Cruise & Marine Logistics department in Barcelona is already preparing for next year’s season. Being one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, and the largest port in the Mediterranean, it is important to continue the positive development. “We have acquired a new truck to handle the deliveries here in Barcelona because it is important that we have modern equipment at our disposal to fulfil the needs of our clients in the best way possible. In this growing industry, we need to be proactive to follow the development in the market”, says Angel Sánchez from Blue Water Barcelona.

Expanding the service In 2013, Blue Water was chosen as the forwarding agent for Resorts World Bimini. We started out with provision deliveries three times per week to the cruise vessel “Bimini Superfast” which docks at the port of Miami. Since then we have expanded our service to include air/ocean import, warehousing, container consolidation, loading etc. We currently load more than four containers per week (dry/chilled & frozen) and accommodate

the customer with any other additional need their account may require. Resorts World Bimini is located in the Bahamas and has a dedicated team who handles purchasing and logistics which includes delivery to the newly built Hilton Hotel. We are working on the consolidation of their dry dock goods coming from local and oversea vendors. The ship is sche duled to go into dry dock in January 2016.

Interesting visit to the UK In June, Rasmus Øllgaard from Blue Water’s office in Miami was in England on a client/ agency visit. Rasmus called on our agent, Southampton Freight Services (SFS), in their new office and warehouse facilities. SFS is a founding member of our Cruise & Marine Logistic Network. During the visit, the cooperation was discussed and the procedures were fine-tuned. The evening included dinner and socialising with the SFS colleagues. Rasmus also seized the opportunity to meet with our key contacts from our mutual client Carnival UK. “We received a friendly welcome and were given an informative guided tour on board P&O’s beautiful MV “Arcadia” followed by a meeting on the lido deck. It was interesting to learn more about the ship’s side logistics and operations - offloading and loading of luggage, new provisions, spare parts etc. – that are taking place on the pier during the short stay in port”, says Rasmus Øllgaard. Carnival UK operates the vessels of Cunard Line and P&O Cruises.

WIND LOGISTICS

Energy from tidal current Blue Water Brest has assisted French Sabella SAS with installing their D10 tidal turbine on the seabed off Ushant Island which is located 30 kilometres off the western tip of Bretagne, France. The installation of the tidal turbine took place during May and June and Blue Water Brest assisted Sabella on the full range of services. Initially, by acting as shipbrokers and fixing the cable installation together with Bourbon Subsea Services, who laid the cable from Ushant Island to the installation point at sea with their vessel “Argonaute”. Next phase was installation of the turbine. This was done by Combi Lift and their vessel M/V “Palembang” with assistance from tug boats holding M/V “Palembang” in position. Blue Water had arranged the

tug boats from Boluda France - a worldleading supplier in service vessels.

Torrential current The complex project was handled successfully in spite of the team being pressured both by the time and the current condition. “The current at Ushant Island is torrential which makes the installing process extremely complex. It is only possible to work during the so-called neap tides -

the time periods where the tide is not so strong - which only occurs few days every month. It was a very tight schedule requiring precise planning and we were all working under pressure”, says Mogens Nielsen, Director Blue Water France. The turbine was built on the quayside in Brest where Blue Water was also involved in various logistics and stevedoring activities. The latter were handled by Blue Water’s partner ADS. The overall project was a great success handled in close cooperation with one of Sabella’s main shareholders Saipem in Paris. Sabella SAS is a young engineering and project management company within the field of marine energies and more specifically tidal turbines.

Cost-saving solutions Blue Water is transporting 76 wind turbine foundations for Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects for the Gemini Offshore Wind Park. “Our own naval architect has together with the shipping line come up with a change in construction of the chartered vessel so that it can accommodate the foundations. After ten days’ dry-docking in Sweden, the ship was ready for the first shipment”, says Brian Sørensen, Sales Manager for Blue Water’s Wind Logistics. Focus has been to minimise the clients’ total costs for the transport. That is why the foundations are being transported on vessel instead of barge. This is often a cheaper solution and is also less sensitive to bad weather. 10

“Our clients have a lot at stake, so it is important that we deliver on time. All the installation vessels to which we deliver foundations must be kept occupied as waiting time is too costly”, says Brian Sørensen. The vessel will make a total of 38 trips carrying two foundations at a time. Most of the foundations will be transported from the German city of Rostock, but there are also a few shipments from Flushing. Van Oord Ofshore Wind Projects will be handling the installation of the foundations, the electric infrastructure, cables, transformer stations and is also responsible for installation of the turbines, which will be performed by the installation vessel “Aeolus”. The growth continues The large Pililla Rizal Wind Farm is located about 70 kilometres east of the Philippine capital Manila, where Blue Water has delivered the 27 x 2.0 MW turbines. “We have a thorough knowledge of wind turbine transport and the conditions in the Philippines and we make a great effort of doing our homework properly before we start on a project. This was a determining factor for us in winning this project”, says Bjarke R. Nielsen, who is responsible for Blue Water’s Business Development in Asia. The transport went through the extremely congested city centre of Manila in a narrow time span at night. The turbines

had to pass through many junctions and go below bridges with a minimum of clearance. When the trucks were safely through town, the route continued across a mountain pass to avoid busy streets. “We are continuing our good development with advanced logistics solutions for the wind industry in the new markets in Asia. This is our second big project in the Philippines and we expect substantial growth in the market. Having been given the responsibility for this project proves that Blue Water belongs among the few companies which have the competences to carry out these very complex logistics assignments”, says Bjarke R. Nielsen.

Global Offshore Wind Blue Water attended the Renewables UK Global Offshore Wind 2015 exhibition in London in June. There was a good atmosphere during the exhibition, and everyone had time to talk with new and old relations. The exhibition was well-attended and we established a lot of new contacts during the two-day event.

Loading for Sandbank In the German part of the North Sea, Bilfinger is installing 72 foundations for the Sandbank Wind Farm. Blue Water’s stevedore department in Esbjerg is responsible for the loading operations. The foundations consist of a monopile and a transition piece. The foundations are transported to Esbjerg on Bilfinger’s own barges and are

No. 110

picked up again by the installation vessel “Pacific Orca”. “The first port calls went as planned. We have cooperated with Bilfinger for many years on several projects, and the fact that they want to continue the cooperation with us as partner on this project is a big recognition”, says Brian Sørensen, Business Development Manager Wind.

A part for the gigantic hydraulic hammer is being discharged.

“The Gentle Giant” In April, Blue Water discharged a number of parts for the world’s largest and most powerful hydraulic hammer, the “MHU 3500”, also called “The Gentle Giant”, belonging to the German company MENCK GmbH. The parts that we discharged are called pile sleeves. In May, we discharged another cargo of parts for the hammer. When “The Gentle Giant” is fully assembled, it will be used by German Bilfinger Marine & Offshore Systems GmbH to install the 72 monopile foundations for the offshore wind farm Sandbank.

PORT SERVICES & AGENCY

Biggest bridge project in Denmark in 20 years Olivier served his internship in Esbjerg The young French postgraduate student, Olivier Fedeli, has successfully completed a six-month internship in our agency department in Esbjerg. With flying colours, Olivier succeeded in making himself conversant with the daily operation and added great capacity to the department. Olivier soon became our crew change expert and he more or less took over control of the ship’s parcels. Olivier built a relationship of trust with the clients and suppliers, he became a natural part of our young team and has established long-lasting relations and friendships within Blue Water. Olivier became a valued colleague at the Esbjerg office where the other departments also made use of his proficiency of the French language. Olivier has now returned to Grenoble to finish his Master’s degree.

The yacht M/Y “A” is 119 metres long, has a crew of more than 35 people and costs around 300 million dollars to construct.

Agency for yachts Blue Water Greenland was appointed agent and logistics partner when one of the world’s most expensive and largest yachts called at Nuuk, Greenland. Blue Water Greenland was involved from the preliminary preparations as well as during the more than 14-day voyage along the west coast of Greenland. “Our entire planning was carried out down to the last detail and we were in charge of crew change and delivery of supplies. In addition, we provided guidance to the crew on navigation in arctic waters. Navigating in Greenland waters places heavy demands on the ships and the weather may pose challenges” says Kristian Bruus Hald from Blue Water’s office in Nuuk. This assignment strengthens Blue Water Greenland’s competences within this special client segment and we hope for additional assignments of this kind in the future.

The tunnel project linking Rodby in Denmark with Puttgarden in Germany – and the indirectly connected construction of a new domestic bridge, Storstromsbroen - were approved by the national parliament of Denmark in May. The approval was, however, subject to three reservations which are partly related to the final price and partly to the handling of the objections from Germany. Hopefully, the three reservations will be handled in a satisfactory way in 2015 so that the contracts can be signed at the end of 2016 and the construction work can be completed in 2024. “The various consortia are now going through their revised tenders (the construction period has been extended by approx. two years compared to the original plan) and both Blue Water and the FB Suppliers network, which Blue Water among others are behind, have sent in their bids for the Consortia’s di-

Hirtshals is on the move Over the years, the number of staff at Blue Water’s Hirtshals office has increased steadily and so have the activities. verse assignments. The consortia have expressed an interest in using Bandholm Port during the construction period for the production facilities and for the work port Rodby. Since January, Blue Water has been responsible for the operation and promotion of Bandholm Port”, says Niels Tolstrup, who is the Director of Business Development at Blue Water and the negotiator on the contract with Bandholm Port. If the project keeps to the revised schedule, the first quarter of 2016 will be an exciting period. We hope to be negotiating with the winning consortia, and their subcontractors, of both the tunnel construction and the construction of the new domestic bridge as well as demolition of the old bridge. The new domestic bridge will be the most comprehensive bridge construction in Denmark for the last two decades. In total, the investments amount to more than 65 billion dkk.

Streck Transport have their own distribution network covering all of Switzerland and Lichtenstein, and with terminals at Basel and in Pfungen (Zurich), we now have a better coverage of the important industrial area in the north-eastern part of Switzerland.

“Blue Water has for several years a good traffic on Switzerland, where we control 90% of the goods. We look forward to this new cooperation. Streck Transport has a large and active sales force and we expect that the cooperation will strengthen and develop the activity and increase our market shares”, says Bent Weidinger, the General Manager for our Kolding office, controlling our Swiss activity.

Hirtshals Manager: Bent Rasmussen Established: 1990 Employees: 24 Primary activities:

»» Ro/Ro transport of seafood and general cargo to/from the Faroes and Iceland

»» Transport of seafood from Norway to the Continent

»» Transport of foodstuffs and other cargo from the Continent to Norway

»» Agency & Stevedoring

Blue Water Hirtshals was established as a two-man office to transport fresh fish to Europe from the Faroes based on the Faroese shipping line Star Line’s regular cargo service between Denmark and the Faroe Islands. The activities still include transport to/from the Faroes and also Iceland as logistics partner for Smyril Line. Furthermore, we supply agency and stevedore services to the vessels calling at the port. No. 110

“In addition, we have a new activity in progress: transport of temperatureregulated and ordinary cargo to Norway from Denmark and the Continent and seafood from Norway to Denmark for further distribution to the Continent. Blue Water has 20 trucks on the roads on a regular service covering all of Norway from Finmark in the north to Kristiansand in the south. A new rail cargo terminal will soon be ready in Hirtshals, enabling us

to send trailers/containers from Hirtshals to destinations all over Europe. We will also work to develop Hirtshals as a base port for the Oli & Energy industry and finally develop Ro/Ro transport from Hirtshals to UK and/or Holland/Belgium making Hirtshals an important hub within the Scandinavian countries”, says Bent Rasmussen, the General Manager in Hirtshals, who has taken an active share in developing the office since the very start in 1990. 13

Blue Water Relay Race A fun and tough run

Almost 1,500 participants had chosen to test their shape when the Blue Water Relay Race was held in Esbjerg. Blue Water had entered seven teams for the event with five participants on each team. After each of the teams had finished the 25

kilometres (5x5) in the forest, everybody met in a big tent to socialise and have something to eat. The relay race is a popular recurring event which is well backed up internally. The night ended with fireworks.

On 21.6, eight colleagues from Blue Water’s Aalborg office participated in the Nordea Aalborg Half Marathon. Only one of them had made the distance before and five had never even tried running before. All of them had been training seriously since last autumn, both as a group and individually, and it had been both fun and tough.

Thanks from Sisimiut With help from several sponsors including Blue Water, the Old Boys football team from Sisimiut in Greenland has participated in an international tournament in Barcelona, Spain. It was an eventful trip for the players and their hard work on the pitch was combined with pleasure as several players had brought their families along. The team has sent us their greetings thanking us for sponsoring their football shirts.

Run and fun in Herning When a local sports club invited local companies to participate in a running event, Blue Water Herning entered a team of runners for the event. The team consisted of present and former colleagues. Among them was the nearly 90-year-old Edith Sørensen, who was the oldest participant in the run. Everyone had a great day and enjoyed each other’s company along with some food and drink after the run.

Great results for Team TREFOR-Blue Water For the third year running, Team TREFORBlue Water won the Danish Championship for teams. The team was also successful in this year’s edition of the Danish Championship for U23 riders. Søren Kragh Andersen took home a silver medal in time trial. In the road race, riders from the successful Danish cycling team took both the first, second and third place where Jonas Gregaard Wilsly won gold. Finally, Asbjørn Kragh Andersen came in third in the GP race in Horsens. “The results are impressive. As sponsor for the cycling team, we are inspired by watching how far the riders can go when they work together as a team. We can relate to this as Blue Water has also developed over the years as a result of good team efforts”, says Marketing Manager at Blue Water, Jan Hjortlund Hansen.

In the Danish U23 Championship, Team TREFOR-Blue Water occupied all three podium places.

BLUE WATER SPIRIT

Crossfit is originally an American sport which combines weightlifting with endu rance and gymnastics. Throughout recent years, crossfit has become very popular around the world.

A brisk morning swim Blue Water’s Management and Management Assistant Kasper Diaz Sommer celebrated Kasper’s tenth anniversary together. They went for an early morning workout followed by a swim in the North Sea during a local sports festival. The celebration also marked Kasper’s upcoming

stationing in Miami. As from 1 August, he assumed his new role as General Manager in Miami. Kasper’s replacement is Mikkel Østergaard Kruse. Mikkel has previously been part of the Aarhus office and has recently got his diploma in business administration.

Tough competition Klaus Uggerhøj from Aalborg is one of Denmark’s best crossfit athletes. With help from Blue Water, he participated in Crossfit Meridian Regionals - European and African Championship along with athletes from both Europe and Africa. For three days, the athletes competed in different disciplines where both strength and endurance were determining factors. Klaus was very happy that Blue Water sponsored him and he has already promised to return next year – both stronger, faster and better.

Full speed on the go-cart track

Office expansion in Billund Our colleagues in Billund have got more space at the office as the facilities have been expanded by around 260 sqm. The workmen arrived on a Friday afternoon and knocked down the wall to the building next door, put in a new door and started painting. The work was completed Saturday so that all the colleagues from Billund could No. 110

meet on Sunday and arrange their new work stations. With great help from the IT department, everything was ready for Monday morning. Now, the Billund office has more space and there is even enough room to welcome new employees when the time comes.

Speed-crazy colleagues from Blue Water Esbjerg and Billund have recently competed to win the annual internal go-cart race. This year’s many competitors were divided into two groups after the qualifying round. Every second counted and one second of absent-mindedness might cause the difference between success and failure. It was a great event for all participants although disqualifications were heavily discussed as the results came in – only in fun. The editor shall not determine whether or not the decision of the external committee of judges were fair – all there is left is to conclude is that we are looking forward to having our revenge.

Jubilees Silver John Lauridsen

01.10.90–01.10.2015

On 1.10, John Lauridsen/Blue Water Esbjerg will celebrate his silver anniversary. John has from the start formed part of our West European department, and still does, handling the export to Spain. Despite the fact that 25 years have passed, John has not changed, only his hair is a bit shorter now. Having finished his football career in Spain, John started as trainee in Blue Water. Spain was a natural choice of market for John and he has contributed to developing this activity from scratch to the big activity we see today. Naturally, John speaks fluent Spanish, which is a huge advantage. He is very good at talking with people and when problems arise, John will solve them over the phone. John is very helpful, friendly and kind and always in a good mood – except when his computer is causing troubles. John is married to Hanne and the couple has two daughters, Sandra and Christina, who have flown the nest. For many years, Golf has taken up a great deal of John’s free time - in both Denmark and in the form of golfing trips to his second home country Spain. John also spends time weeding in the garden, going to the movies and running. Moreover, he is an instructor at the local fitness centre.

Silver Steen Bendix Jørgensen

22.10.90–22.10.2015

On 22.10, Steen Bendix Jørgensen/Blue Water Esbjerg will celebrate his silver anniversary. From the start, Steen formed part of our domestic department where he for many years was involved in the local dry cargo activities – in particular trucking of feta via the port of Esbjerg to Iran as well as goods to the monthly reefer vessels via Esbjerg to the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf. Later on, Steen moved on to our No. 110

then existing haulage department, Blue Water Transport, where he concentrated on logistics for the trailer fleet on Smyril Blue Water’s weekly departures to the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Steen is good at keeping several balls in the air and has always played the coordinator’s role in connection with the planning and organising of major events in Blue Water. When we moved into our new headquarters, which provide the perfect setting for major internal and external events, this special activity occupied an increasing amount of Steen’s time. Today, Steen has completely given up his freight forwarding responsibilities to solely concentrate on his new job as full-time event organiser, a job he is very much dedicated to. Steen is married to his flower girl, Nancy, and the couple has two grown-up children, Malene and Peder, and a little granddaughter, Liv, who is four years old.

Silver Pia Skytte

01.11.90–01.11.2015

On 1.11, Pia Skytte/Blue Water Odense/ Esbjerg will celebrate her silver anniversary. Pia started at our Odense office as one of the driving forces behind our Scandinavian traffic and our local dangerous goods expert. Based on her education within transport economics and transport law, Pia has for many years been our internal adviser and teacher of dangerous goods and claims. Also, the clients have benefitted from her expertise when she has counselled them in claims and cargo insurance matters. Pia has also, as mentor for our trainees, provided invaluable support to her young colleagues, especially in connection with their final examination. In 2008, Pia changed line to become involved in different functions across the organisation. Until recently, she was part of the Tender Management Group, in which she, due to her expertise, played an essential role in the bidding process. In 2014, Pia joined our HSSEQ group as quality expert responsible for Blue Water’s AEO certification as well as for product lines with special public requirements.

Pia has two grown-up sons and in her scarce free time, she is renovating her lovely house in Funen. Pia is also a frequent guest at the local library and in the evening, she often goes for long walks.

20 years Stephan le Badezet

23.10.95–23.10.2015

On 23.10, Stephane le Badezet/BlueWater Hirtshals will celebrate his 20th anniversary. Stephane’s Blue Water career started at our fish terminal in Boulognesur-Mer in connection with transport and distribution of fresh fish mainly from the UK and Denmark. When the activities from the UK stopped a couple of years later, Stephane moved on to our office in Padborg, Denmark. A few years later, Stephan moved to Hirtshals for love and this place is still his daily base. Stephane solely concentrates his efforts on sales and development of our fish activities – both national and worldwide - involving periods of travel activities and client visits. Stephane devotes his spare time to his Danish wife, Susanne, and their three sons – Frederik, Mathias and Mark. But he also finds time to play old boys football now and then and naturally he follows his sons’ performances on the pitch. It has always been Blue Water’s philo sophy to be close to our clients. Stephane certainly took this literally as he found his sweetheart among our clients – and part of the story is that she is still our client.

20 years Lene Durck

01.12.95–01.12.2015

On 1.12, Lene Durck/Blue Water Odense will celebrate her 20th anniversary. Lene started her career in Blue Water as accounts assistant. THEME NEW TERMINAL

With the new terminal, our clients will experience an even faster and more effective service.

Søren Nielsen Blue Water Shipping

Blue Water invests 16 million Euro in

new cargo terminal The growth in Blue Water has been remarkable throughout the recent years. The increasing amount of clients as well as cargo volumes mean that the company will now invest in a 12,300 sqm cargo terminal as well as 1,800 sqm office facilities by the motorway close to Taulov in Fredericia. “Today, Blue Water has a strong setup with offices and terminals in several locations in Denmark. This means that we are close to the clients and are able to deliver their commodities and cargo quickly and effectively and we will uphold our local presence and the local jobs. The new large terminal will become the centre for our European road traffics as

well as for our growing parcel activities. Also, a large amount of sea freight will be handled in the new facilities in Taulov. The establishment of the new terminal shall also ensure that we can handle the expected continued growth in volumes”, says Søren Nielsen, Director for General Cargo in Blue Water Shipping.

Excellent infrastructure The new terminal will be 250 metres long and 50 metres wide. With 100 gates, the modern terminal will become the centre for import/export as well as distribution in Jutland with daily connections to the other Danish terminals. Once the terminal is fully operational, it is expected that

800-1,000 trucks will be handled on a weekly basis. The location close to the motorway in Taulov is chosen with care. The infrastructure is excellent – close to the motorway and close to the rail terminal in Taulov. “With the new terminal, our clients will experience an even faster and more effective service. Also, we will be able to deliver service of a higher quality and with the possibility to fulfil the increasing demands, from the industry, to effectivity and flexibility. We focus on customised transport solutions and it is the individual solutions that make the difference”, says Søren Nielsen. The project amounts to 16 million Euro and the cargo terminal and office are expected to be completed next summer.
