Blue Water’s Second Funen Office On 1.2.2011, Blue Water became part of Lindø Industripark, Odense (Lindoe Industrial Park). Blue Water Lindø offers tailor-made transport and logistics solutions including heavy-lift handling, internal transport, ship’s clearance, loading/ discharging and consequently shipping in and out via Lindø Industripark’s own port facilities or via Odense Port Terminal. On 1.12, Blue Water’s Lindø team totals 6 people, who will be supplemented by their colleagues from the Odense office. Blue Water Lindø has made a cooperation agreement with Lindø Industripark (LIP) for supply of manpower to operate SPHTs, (Self Propelled Heavy Transporters), terminal tractors and other transport equipment of the industrial park. Furthermore, Blue Water supplies riggers for LIP or other companies in connection with heavy-lift by gantry crane. The crane

has a unique lifting capacity up to 1000 tons. The large industrial park (1.2 million m2) has so-called Kamag transporters (Self Propelled Heavy Transporters) with a lifting capacity up to 1100 tons at its disposal. The crane capacity within the area is up to 1000 tons. Rental of covered space including cranage is also an option. Odense Stålskibsværft (Odense Steel Shipyard), owned by A.P. Møller, closes at the end of 2012. The huge area is in the process of being transformed from a shipyard to an international industrial park, where 40 companies have already set up their own business. The new residents include Fayard, Siemens Windpower, Lindø Industriservice (LIS), Smulders and Maersk Drilling. Other strong and globally-oriented companies will follow soon.

New large Project to Blue Water Lamprell awards Blue Water Rig Transportation to the Caspian Sea Over the years, Blue Water has been a major player moving huge structures through the Russian river system to the Caspian Sea. Several of these movements have been dismantled FSOs (Floating/ Storage/Offloading – special tanker for storage of oil at sea) or drilling rigs, built on shipyards outside the Caspian Sea. Due to the limitations of breadth and draft in the locks of the river system, the rigs have been moved in many small sections for final assembly inside the Caspian Sea. Back in 2009, Lamprell approached Blue Water Dubai for preliminary talks about a rig move, as Lamprell knew of Blue Water’s previous experience in the area. However, the global recession and a drop in oil prices held back the project for one year. But in late 2010, Lamprell signed a contract with the largest independent provider of land drilling in Russia, Eurasia Drilling Company (EDC). EDC wished to increase their activities in the offshore sector and selected Lamprell as their partner for construction of a Le Tourneau S116(E) designed jack-up rig. The scope of work also included the transport to the Caspian Sea. As the contract covers around 85,000 cbm (8205 tons in total) of cargo weighing up to 1050 tons per unit, significant and detailed negotiations were conducted during the spring of 2011 before 2

Lamprell awarded the entire transportation to Blue Water. Our experience, service and long-time presence in the Caspian region played in favour of Blue Water, explains Claus Laursen from Blue Water Dubai, who has been responsible for the contract negotiations in close cooperation with Thomas Bek from our project department in Esbjerg. Since the project is a very significant award for Lamprell, as it marks Lamprell’s biggest project into the Caspian Sea, a meeting was held in Moscow in late June, where the 4 CEOs from the involved parties – Alexander Yu Djaparidze/Eurasia Drilling Company, Nigel R. McCue/

Lamprell, Ilya Kokarev/Caspian Energy Group and Kurt Skov/Blue Water Shipping - made a commitment to make the turnkey project a success. Furthermore the meeting was a good opportunity for the operational staff from all the involved companies to meet and share their views on the challenges we will be facing during such a big project. In Blue Water, we are extremely proud that we again have been chosen for a major rig move to the Caspian Sea and look forward to a good cooperation with all parties during the project, which is scheduled to commence in March 2012.

Hard working Managers

In September, 70 Blue Water managers from Denmark and abroad gathered in Esbjerg for 3 days to discuss strategy and management. The purpose of the conference was to strengthen the management values within the company to ensure that they will always be based on the so-called Blue Water culture – a very strong “we” culture. With an annual conference for all Blue Water managers, we safeguard the presence of these values - also with our colleagues at the offices abroad, who in their daily work might not always remember that they are part of a worldwide organisation with 930 employees at 52 offices in 25 countries.

It is important to strengthen our culture and values, as they are essential for maintaining a good workplace as well as achieving our commercial goals. “The reason why we summon our managers is to cultivate our common values and goals”, explains Kurt Skov. The conference programme included management besides strategy and status on operation and development. As for development, all participants were especially pleased with Blue Water’s continued positive development within the individual business segments and its sound financial position. “I am sure that the strong team spirit in Blue Water is essential for the results.

Without qualified, motivated and committed employees, we would not be able to handle the many complicated and demanding projects, we are challenged with every day”, says Kurts Skov. The three-day conference was held in our new large headquarters (10,000 m2), the workplace for 200 of Blue Water’s employees. The building has excellent conference facilities for both main conference and parallel meeting activities, while the rest of the house remains undisturbed. Saturday evening’s dinner party, however, was held at Blue Water Arena, which supplied the perfect setting for the strong team spirit of the participants.

Large Wind Turbine Project to Australia Blue Water Shipping has together with its Australian partner, Noske Logistics, signed a major contract for the transportation of 140 giant wind turbines from Denmark to Australia. Blue Water Shipping will be handling logistics in cooperation with the Australian transport company Noske Logistics. Loading and shipment from Denmark will be managed by Blue Water, whereas the Australian partner will be handling unloading in Portland port in Victoria as well as the subsequent 100-kilometre road transportation to Macarthur, where the largest wind turbine farm in the southern hemisphere is being erected. The order originates from an agreement with an Australian consortium consisting of Vestas and Leighton Contractors, one of Australia’s largest contracting companies. The 140 wind turbines are Vestas V112 turbines, the largest commercial wind turbines manufactured by Vestas, each producing 3.0 MW. The transport assignment is demanding due to wing spans of 55 metres and nacelles weighing 125 metric tons each. Blue Water’s office in Singapore will be

coordinating the assignment. First shipment took place in late September and the project will be completed by the middle of 2012. Blue Water Singapore in cooperation with Blue Water Shanghai services the wind turbine industry in South East Asia, China and the Pacific.

“This is Blue Water’s first large wind turbine project in Australia. We have acquired substantial international expertise in wind turbine transportation, and this project will further enhance our global position. In the years to come, we expect a notable increase in the number of wind turbine projects”, says Kurt Skov. The first vessel was loaded in Esbjerg in September and arrived at Portland, the port of discharge in Australia, on 7.11. The discharge operation was completed on 11.11 and went as planned – smoothly and with no damages or delay.

New Administration Building in Aalborg The office capacity of Blue Water Aalborg has in recent years become more and more cramped due to prosperity within all activities – North Atlantic traffic, courier & airfreight, overseas container transport and European road transport – resulting in an increased number of staff. Therefore an addition to the office facilities has been a long-felt desire. Christmas is drawing close, and the wish list is going to be fulfilled. The topping-out ceremony for a new administration building, of 325 m2, was held on 25.10. Port of Aalborg is the developer and the building is expected to be completed by February. After the relocation, the present office building will be renovated and a minor engine room installed as well as archives next to the terminal, which after the addition in 2008 has a capacity of 3,000 m2. When the new building is ready in April, we will have favourable growth condi-

tions for the future. Not just the fact that we have hopefully overcome the crisis, but also the assurance that Aalborg will hold its position as Greenland’s basic

port until 2022, have been important factors in our decision-making on the extension project, explains Ole Ulriksen, General Manager of Blue Water Aalborg.

Specialists in Transport of Prefabricated Construction Modules Smyril Blue Water - the only ro-ro operator in the North Atlantic region – is an expert in transport of prefabricated construction modules. The modules can be rolled directly on board, which makes the m/f “Norröna” well suited for this special type of transport. Blue Water is working closely together with MT Højgaard, and when MTH was to build a new petrol station for MAGN (the former Faroese Shell) in Runavik on the Faroe Islands, we jointly decided to use the “Norröna” for the transport, as it would be the best solution. The biggest challenge proved not to be the loading and discharging of the cargo, but passing through the tunnels on the Faroe Islands, as the prefabricated pavilions were too high and too wide. Another option was to use the old road which, for the last 40 years, has only been used for sightseeing. The transport was carried out in 5 hours ( whereas it would only have taken one hour through the tunnels if possible) and went smoothly despite the fact that, at certain places, the vehicles took up the entire breadth of the narrow mountain roads apart from a few centimetres.

Interesting Project for Blue Water Brest Years back, our offices in Brittany, France were established to concentrate on reefer activities. They have always been experts in this special field arranging any kind of transport – by truck, container and even entire shiploads - of food products. The last-mentioned arranged by our specialised chartering department for reefer vessels. Our French colleagues wish to maintain this image, but would also like to call attention to their many other qualifications. They are in France also geared to handling offshore wind projects and projects in connection with alternative renewable energies among other things. In the summer of 2011, we won a tender, invited by DCNS in Brest, for stevedoring – discharging and reloading of turbines and large units from ship onto barge - and road transport of minor items. In this connection, m/v “ Filia Ariea” called at Brest, and Blue Water was entrusted with the agency and discharge operation on behalf of Amasus Shipping BV Holland. Our partner, ADS, acted as stevedore for the call and Blue Water as port agent /surveyor. The ship’s cargo included a big marine tur-

bine (weighing 110 tons and with a diameter of 16 metres), and auxiliary equipment built by Open Hydro Greenore in Ireland for French DCNS Group. The equipment will be used for generating electricity by means of tidal waves. The local director for the Brittany region, Jean-Yves Le Drian, was in Brest, together with representatives from DCNS and staff of Electricité de France Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), to attend the unloading on the site where the plant is to be built. The first turbine was tested at sea in August, and another three followed in the autumn. A good opportunity for Blue Water Brest to show that they have the expertise to handle such projects, comments Mogens Nielsen/ Blue Water Brest.

On 5.10, Blue Water Brest acted as agent for Louis Dreyfus – Fret Cetam when their big ro-ro vessel M/V “Ciudad de Cadiz” (vessel intended for self-propelled units) called at Brest. The vessel was in Brest to carry out a test for discharging a heavy-lift convoy onto the port’s ro-ro ramp. The vessel – built in 2009 – is normally used to transport Airbus A380 components from Hamburg, Liverpool and Nantes to Pauillac in France (near Bordeaux). Fret Cetam is a branch of Louis Dreyfus Armateur, dedicated to this specific ro-ro transports. The test in Brest was carried out to satisfaction within 3 hours, and the vessel continued on it usual service to Hamburg.

Enercon Wind Turbines to Brittany Blue Water Brest was awarded the stevedoring and reloading operations in Brest for the Enercon project of four entire wind turbines to be erected in Lamballe in the northern part of Brittany this autumn. First shipment of 16 steel tower sections arrived at Brest on 29.8, and the second shipment, consisting of hubs, nacelles, blades and power convertors, arrived in late September. The tower sections were delivered by m/v “ E-Ship”, built in 2010 (length: 130 m, breadth: 22.50 m, draft 9.30 m, GRT 12968, NRT 8907, DWT 10020). This ultramodern vessel was built as per order of

Enercon and is fully owned and operated by Enercon themselves. The vessel is equipped with four turbines generating energy from wind, allowing the vessel to reduce her impact on the invironment as well as her fuel consumption.

Prize to Copex

of a large part of these potatoes. Naturally, we hope that Copex’ growth curve of 10% per year will continue, and take the opportunity to congratulate the company on the award.

Thursday, 30 September was a memorable day for our good friend and client Pierre Cadiou, Managing Director of Copex Distribution S.A. in Brest. The big French business and financial paper “Les Echos” awarded the first prize for export growth in the Finisterre region to Copex among 874 companies in the region. The selection was based on the data bank of French credit insurance company Coface. Copex are exporters of seed potatoes to approx. 40 countries all over the world, and Blue Water arranges transportation

Agency in Brest

Late in the evening of 22.9, Blue Water Brest was contacted by Holland America Line in Seattle, USA as their cruise ship m/v “Seabourne Pride” was running out of fresh drinking water. The ship was cruising along the French coast from Saint Malo to the island of Belllle-en-Mer south of Brittany, where it would be impossible to load drinking water, as the ship would only lie at anchor, and the passengers would be sailed ashore. Our people in Brest immediately started to get hold of the necessary permissions in order that the water tanks on board could be filled up the next morning. An operation, which normally takes 7-8 hours, but was necessary as the ship only had 85 m3 of water left for its 196 passengers and 170 crew members. The operation was, however, completed within 4 hours, and the delay was made up for before arrival at the next destination – Le Palais. Our team in Brest was sorry that it was too late to get permission for the passengers to go ashore in Brest. They had to be satisfied with enjoying the beautiful weather on the sun deck.

Relocation of Blue Water’s Activities in Spain Blue Water Projects has been active in Spain since 2006 with the main activity then being shipment of wind turbines from Denmark to Span. Today, Spain has a large production of wind turbines being shipped to destinations overseas from the west coast of Spain. Therefore Blue Water Projects has now moved office from Barcelona to La Coruña. This new port location will bring Blue Water closer to the activities, enabling us to supply solutions to demanding and specialised transports and logistics projects, primarily for the wind turbine industry which is seeing rapid growth in Spain. Blue Water Projects has built great expertise in wind turbine projects. It is our aim to continue consolidating our position as a strong, competent and global transport and logistics supplier. With its excellent port facilities, La Coruña is strategically located in relation to the wind turbine industry, which makes it fit into our stra-

tegy as a location for our Spanish project office, says Niels Tolstrup who is overall responsible for Blue Water’s global wind activities. Blue Water Projects handles its global transport and logistics solutions for the wind turbine industry from seven project offices located in Denmark, England, France, Spain, Singapore, China, the USA and Brazil. Every year, more than 3,000 wind turbine units are shipped and 700 port calls handled with the services that follow, such as stevedoring and storage. The project office in La Coruña was opened on 1 October and is staffed by Operations Manager Sebastian Stackelies as well as Aleksandra Kurek and Fernando Sieira. Barcelona is still the location of Blue Water Shipping España, which handles transport and logistics assignments in respect of sea & airfreight, reefer transports and cruise logistics.

RTG Cranes from Oman to Iran The Iranian company Mobasher Norr Darya Co. procured two RTG cranes in the spring of 2011 from Salalah Port in Oman which is partly owned by APM terminals. The RTG cranes will be used for the stacking of containers at a privately owned terminal, established by Mobasher Norr Darya Co. in the port of Bandar Abbas in 2001. In July 2011, Blue Water’s project department in Esbjerg, was assigned the task of shipping the two RTG cranes from Salalah in Oman to Bandar Abbas in Iran. As the cranes are not constructed to be lifted, the only solution was to roll them on board a ro-ro vessel. For this purpose, Blue Water chartered the vessel “Condock IV” from Condock BefrachtungsGesellschaft mbH & Co KG in Hamburg, Germany. The vessel is equipped with a loading platform at the back so that the cranes could roll on board themselves. Project freight forwarders from the project department in Esbjerg travelled to Oman to ensure that the loading process in the port of Salalah went according to plan. The transport was completed without major problems, and the “Condock IV” arrived at Bandar Abbas on 28 July for unloading at high tide.

Pollcat to Nigeria In July, Blue Water Shipping’s projectdepartment in Esbjerg was awarded the transport of an anti-pollution workboat (pollcat) to Nigeria. Our client, Desmi RO-Clean UK, has sold the pollcat to the Nigerian organisation NOSDRA (National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency). In Nigeria, the vessel will among other assignments be assisting in the clean-up of oil spills in Nigerian ports. The pollcat sailed under her own power from Portland through the English Channel to Antwerp in Belgium, from where it was loaded directly from the sea onto a multi6

purpose freight ship in early August 2011 for delivery at Port Onne, Nigeria in late August.

Danfish, Aalborg 12-14 Octotber In the autumn of 2011, Denmark was hosting a fisheries exhibition – Danfish in Aalborg. The exhibition takes place every other year, and for the fourth time, Blue Water performed the function of exhibition forwarder. The job was handled in excellent cooperation between Blue Water’s exhibition department in Esbjerg and Blue Water Aalborg. In addition to handling the goods at the exhibition, Blue Water coordinated the transport to and from the exhibition – 12 truck loads in total via our terminals in Esbjerg and Aalborg. 13,000 visitors attended the 3-day exhibition experiencing hectic activity. Blue Water was represented with a fine stand at the Danish collective stand under The Exporters’ Association.

DSEI Military Exhibition,

London – 13-16 September Due to our new contract with Danish Defence - covering the USA, Canada and the rest of the world - Claus Bæk, Henrik Damgaard and Ole Bøgh Ulriksen participated in this year’s Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEI), the biggest exhibition of land, sea and air applications for defence and security products and technologies, taking place in London. In connection with this contract, we have obtained extensive knowledge of transport of munitions to Danish Defence. In excess of 29,000 visitors attended the exhibition – an increase of 16% compared to the latest exhibition in 2009. A total of 1391 exhibiting companies,

representing 46 countries, at 30 national pavilions made this year’s exhibition the biggest DSEI ever. DSEI attracted official delegations from 44 nations including Australia, Brazil, Estonia, the Republic of Korea, Romania and Turkey. It was a forum with plenty of opportunity for contact to both suppliers, and to a great extent to the defence of other countries as well, where we can draw on our experience with transport for Danish Defence. We met a lot of useful contacts, to be further developed, and obtained information about defence units, authorities and suppliers whom we might meet at AUSA in October.

AUSA Military Exhibition Washington DC – 10-12 October Icelandic Fisheries, Reykjavik – 22.-24.9.

In keeping with tradition, Blue Water participated in the exhibition, Icelandic Fisheries, on a collective Danish stand. Everybody can see that the fishing industry is in a prosperous phase. The exhibition attracted lots of visitors. Every day, people were waiting in line go get in, and during the entire exhibition, the Danish collective stand was busy. Response from various exhibitors indicates that in general everybody was extremely satisfied with the exhibition. Blue Water was also handling the successful transport of most of the exhibition goods to Iceland.

Blue Water decided to participate in the AUSA Military Exhibition in Washington with our own stand in the Danish pavilion under Danish Industry. The exhibition had more than 700 exhibitors and attracted well over 30,000 visitors. Our stand received many interesting visits and we paid visits to old and new suppliers and have great expectations for this new business segment in Blue Water. As our offices in both USA and Denmark have the expertise, we hope in the long term to secure similar contracts with the defence authorities in other countries, and are primarily focusing on countries

where Blue Water have their own representation. Our authorization as carrier of both material and munitions in the USA provides the opportunity for supplying similar services to defence authorities in other countries. During the exhibition we called on the Danish Embassy in Washington, where we enjoy a close cooperation with Niels Ulrik Plesner Olsen in respect of suppliers, licences etc. An interesting visit, during which we clarified the set-up and procedures to all parties’ satisfaction.

China Wind Power Exhibition Beijing - 19 - 21.10. Once again, Blue Water participated in the annual China Wind Power Exhibition in Beijing from 19-21 October. Since the start in 2008, this event has developed to become the leading trade show for wind energy in China. The exhibition has in excess of 600 exhibitors - this year including a record Danish participation of 29 companies, represented at a joint, Danish pavilion organised by The Exporters’ Association (the former Danish Exporters’ Association) in cooperation with the wind turbine industry. The joint Danish stand was opened by Export Ambassador Ritt Bjerregaard, who was beautifully accompanied by Danish majorettes from the city of Vedbæk. During the exhibition, China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced new development plans for wind energy up to 2050. The aim is that 17 % of the Chinese energy consumption is to be produced by wind turbines through the establishment of a total wind turbine capacity of 1,000 GW. Initially, the focus is on land based wind turbines until 2020. After this time, public funded offshore wind turbine farms will be implemented.

Anuga 2011 For the first time in 15 years, we had our own stand at the Anuga Food Fair, which was held in Cologne from 8-12 October. 150,000 professionals of the food industry visited the more than 6500 exhibitors. Blue Water formed part of the USAPEEC (USA Poultry & Egg Export Council) pavilion with a popular stand primarily focusing on worldwide export of poultry and meat from the USA. We have seen an overwhelming pressure of business in 2010 and 2011 and expect to ship more than 5000 x 40’ containers from the US in 2011 as well as several break-bulk vessels with frozen poultry on a monthly basis. It was very important for us to meet a number of key personnel from most of the offices in our worldwide reefer network enabling us to maintain the contact to our good clients and business relations. This year, Blue Water was represented by people from our offices in Brazil, USA, Spain, France, Holland and Denmark. We will be back in 2013!

Danish Offshore Event 2011 On 3-4.10, Blue Water participated in Danish Offshore Event 2011 organised by Esbjerg Industry & Trade Development Council, the Danish Exporters’ Association and EnergyMetropolis Esbjerg. The programme of the event included a trip on board m/v “Dana Sirena” to the offshore wind farm “Horns Rev 1”, installed off the coast of Esbjerg in 2002, and interesting networking on board the

ship the same evening. The following day, b2b meetings were arranged – round table meetings of 10 minutes each, a sort of “speed dating” for the participating companies – where we met EDF Energies Nouvelles, among others, who are planning the first three offshore wind farms in France. In general, the event attracted much attention in Denmark as well as from abroad.

Gantry Crane from Denmark to Lithuania

On the night of 8.9, Blue Water Shipping Lindøe successfully loaded a secondhand gantry crane as deck cargo on board the m/v ”HELGA”. The consignee, Tosmare Ship Yard, purchased the crane at an auction held at the former Odense Steel Shipyard earlier this summer. Blue Water Shipping was asked to arrange storage, mobilisation, loading and sea fastening of the 56-ton heavy crane (3420 cbm). Project freight forwarders from our project team were present to ensure that all preparation work was carried out as per agreed specifications and arranged all details to ensure a smooth and safe delivery to the new owners. The job was executed and completed without incidents, and the crane arrived at its destination timely and in good order and condition. 10

Intensified Requirements to Airfreight

Airfreight

Based on the European Commission’s regulation no. 185/2010, the Transport Authority (the former SLV – Statens Luftfarts Væsen / Civil Aviation Administration) intensifies the requirements to you as airfreight carriers. In this connection, Blue Water wishes to make the importance of this initiative visible to you as exporters. For further information, please visit http://bws.dk/information.aspx or www. trafikstyrelsen.dk/DA/Civil-luftfart/Luftfartserhverv/Fragtoverdragere.aspx

Even though you would think that airfreight is a fast and modern mode of transportation, you have got it wrong. The industry is, despite its modern looks, rather conservative in its routines. In fact it has a very old-fashioned attitude to work routines. So far everything has been done on paper. The International Air Transport Association - IATA – now wishes to change and modernise the routines. The aim is to take out the paper of the air cargo supply chain and replace it by digitalized formats, which will hopefully result in a reduction of costs, increase in efficiency and higher security level in the transport chain. To offer E Freight, as we call it, every participant in the logistics chain will need to contribute to making the system work. In March 2010, Blue Water Amsterdam was requested by the Dutch Air Forwarders’ Association (ACN) to become part of a forum, E Freight–NL Consortium, with the purpose of piloting the implementation of E freight for the “new era”. Since June 2011, Blue Water Amsterdam is, as one of the first few freight forwarders at Schiphol Airport able to offer E Freight to destinations where this is already accepted and part of the daily routines. So far, E freight is only accepted at few destinations, but within a time frame of 2 years, it is expected that the majority of the shipments will be sent in this way. The gained knowledge on operating airfreight in E mode is now rolled out to all Blue Water offices offering airfreight and where the local regulations allow this. Long live the paperless society.

Togo moved from Esbjerg to Scotland Blue Water’s airfreight department in Esbjerg had the pleasure of moving the one-year-old baby seal, Togo, from the Fisheries & Maritime Museum in Esbjerg to St. Andrews Aquarium in Scotland - a 1000-kilometre flight. Togo was transported in a specially made container – with space for turning and limping a bit around. Water for Togo during the flight was not necessary, however, the animal keeper sprayed him with water before departure from Esbjerg Airport. Togo looked cute, but still the sign “The animal bites” must be taken seriously, as he did bite a piece off the keeper’s trousers during the capture. A funny and different job for our airfreight team in Esbjerg.

Facts Togo was born on 19 July 2010. Togo is the 65th baby seal born in the sealarium of the Fisheries & Maritime Museum. Togo got his name on the occasion of Esbjerg being nominated UNICEF City 2010.

The local clients’ department in Aarhus has been involved in a transport for an artist on the island of Samsø, “VI Design & Dekoration”, when he at first needed transportation of a sea shell sculpture to Meerzentrum on Fehmarn. Next time it was a jellyfish sculpture and soon another marine animal will follow. We hope they are building an entire zoological garden with marine animals on Fehmarn.

Renewable UK 2011 Blue Water Danbrit participated in Renewable UK 2011 in Manchester - an annual wind exhibition and conference for parties interested in wind energy. This was the 33rd exhibition and a great success - with close to 5000 visitors and 300 exhibitors - despite the fact that it took place close to the EWEA exhibition, which will be held in Amsterdam from 29.11 to 1.12 with representatives from Blue Water as well. We received extremely positive feedback on our new joint venture, Blue Water Danbrit, when presenting our plans concerning the UK set-up. Blue Water’s offshore wind experience combined with Danbrit’s local knowledge have no doubt created a business attracting a lot of attention within the UK, and which will become an important factor, explains Jacob Kjærgaard.

Updating on Comfort at Sea In mid-September, m/v “Sea Discoverer” arrived at the Walney II Offshore Wind Project in the UK. M/v “Sea Discoverer” has taken over the assignment as floating hotel after m/v “Sea Spririt” which has been on the project since May, but is now transferred to another contract. The contract with IGLU Construction in Canada is now finalized as planned, and m/s Sea Voyager” has returned to European waters. “2011, which is actually our first year in the floating hotel business, has been a good year. With the potential of 2012 and forwards, the future for this segment looks promising”, concludes Joacob Kjærgaard and Søren Stougaard. A video presentation of Comfort at Sea can be seen on website www.comfortatsea.com. It was presented for the first time at OWIB2011, a b2b event in Esbjerg, where Blue Water gave an introduction, of its wide range of services to the offshore wind industry, to the many international participants.

Future Energy Systems Forum Blue Water attended the “Future Energy Systems Forum” at the British Embassy in Copenhagen from 10-11 October. The event programme included a network dinner at the British Ambassador, Nick Archer’s, residence the first day, and a round table discussion at the embassy the next day. The event served as a platform for the participants for networking and discussions as to the effect of British energy politics. A unique group of people, representing leading Danish and British companies interested in renewable energy in England, gathered for 24 hours. Jacob Kjærgaard represented both Blue Water and Blue Water Danbritt at the event.

Visiting Buss Ports, Hamburg On 7.9, Blue Water paid a visit to Buss Ports in Hamburg. The offshore wind activities in the German sector of the North Sea are indeed progressing, and the future plans show activities comparable to the many installations planned in the British sector. Today, many German ports handle loading and discharging of wind turbines, and the north-western ports have to a great extent gained wide experience in hand-

ling of offshore wind turbines in connection with the installation process. Buss Ports are strongly represented in several German ports and keep an increased focus on the offshore activities in the German North sea sector and in the Baltic Sea region. We received a warm welcome at Buss Ports’ new office followed by a guided tour of the terminal in Hamburg.

Reception at Blue Water Bremen Blue Water Bremen celebrated its 5th anniversary on 1.11. At the same time, our German colleagues seized the occasion to mark the inauguration of their new facilities and invited clients and business relations to come by the office. In the evening, a dinner party was arranged for chosen clients at the “Bremer Freimarkt” – the traditional Bremen town fair – where everyone let themselves go in the special homely and amusing Ger-

man style known from the popular October parties – especially in Sourthern Germany. Our long-time business friends – Thorbjörn Bye and Lars S. Hansen from Nor Lines in Norway – were among the guests, and Blue Water Denmark was represented by Jesper Nielsen and Thomas Johansen Wexoe from Copenhagen and Carsten Eskildsen and Kurt Skov from Esbjerg.

Blue Water’s Tender Group The financial crisis in 2008 caused more and more companies to change procedure to inviting tenders for their transports. Blue Water’s Danish offices for ordinary goods, in particular, have seen a significant increase in the amount of written inquiries, which has resulted in a lot of pressure on our local sales departments. This made Blue Water decide to establish a central tender group with the intention of standardising the handling and submission of tenders. Today, the tender group consists of: Carsten Eskildsen, Per Holm Nørgaard, Dorthe Heimbürger, Anette Bay, Merete Daubjerg Roug, Jacob Hornegaard and Team Manager Pia Skytte. In addition to a large number of projects across the organisation, the tender group is responsible for the evaluation of all incoming tender material and submission of bids for the projects chosen. Comprehensive presentation and tender documents are thoroughly prepared in close

Facts

A tender is a comprehensive transport inquiry sent to a restricted number of carriers, typically with a deadline of 1-3 weeks for submission of quotation. The client, or the client’s consultant, chooses one or more carriers to be awarded the assignment for one or a specific number of markets for a period of 1-2 years. The tender process may include pre-qualification and several meetings dependent on the scope of supply. cooperation with the sales manager. Processing time of the tender documents is 2-3 weeks dependent on complexity, details, scope (number of markets and modes of transportation) and language. The strength of Blue Water’s tender group is a wide, central expertise and a concept in constant development.

Safety Courses It is of great importance to Blue Water that the staff are well-equipped to perform the different jobs assigned to them – in particular when it comes to safety and health. We give high priority to prevention of accidents on the job, and training/education and information is therefore an important focus area. As part of our wish to maintain a safe place of work – at the office, warehouse/ terminal as well as at external locations – we have for several years been working together with the company Worklife. They are experts in this field, and on a recent inspection round to our warehouses/terminals, we only saw “green smileys”. Safety expert Piet Andersen has during the recent couple of months adapted the education to our staff as well as tailored it to the various job functions in the port area, as we in particular here see an increasing

demand for certified education depending on with the character of the job. Safety is not just a question of work instructions and physical protective equipment. It is important also to possess knowledge and common sense – to use both brain and heart in the process. The main thing is that everybody concerned comes forward with their own ideas about the occurrence of the dangerous situations, and how we can avoid them.

Standesign - Farewell Reception and Inauguration of new Facilities A farewell reception was held at Standesign along with the inauguration of the company’s new facilities on Friday 30.9. The farewell reception was in honour of Per Frandsen, son of the founder, Aage Frandsen, who established the company in 1967. Per started with Standesign in 1980 and took over after his father in 1984. Over the years, Standesign has worked closely together with the Danish Exporters’ Association and has always been responsible for the association’s exhibitions around the world. In 2006, Per decided to sell the company to the Danish Exporters’ Association, and André Minier was appointed daily manager. Since then, André and Per have enjoyed a very close and good cooperation. The reception was also a farewell to Bent Schönherr, who – after 25 years with Standesign and 25 years with Atlas - had decided to retire. Bent has all through the years concentreted on the agencies for the German exhibition centres. Furthermore the reception marked the inauguration of the new facilities in Glostrup. Many loyal customers came to say goodbye, see the new facilities and enjoy the afternoon in good company and with delicious food from the barbecue.

An introduction week was held in Esbjerg for 21 freight forwarding trainees and one accounting trainee from 26 to 30 September. One week of information about Blue Water – history, culture, our different business activities, dangerous goods presentation, claims handling and additional sales. After the entire week, our trainees have got a clear picture of Blue Water and created good and valuable relations. 13

Biking for Charity – Varde/the Skaw Four Blue Water colleagues participated in a three-day charitable bike race from Varde to the Skaw from 9 - 11 September. The tour was organised by IFS Vestjyderne, a local sports club for the mentally handicapped, with the sole objective of raising money to provide the mentally handicapped with better possibilities to play sports. Kurt Skov, Carsten Steffensen, Kim Beier and Lennart Voss joined the 100 riders on five teams. Team captain for the Blue Water staff was Jørn Lund, one of Denmark’s bike racing pioneers. It was an enjoyable tour for Blue Water’s participants - a tour enhanced by the fact that it was done to promote a good cause.

Safely arrived at the Skaw after three days of hardship – left to right: Jørgen Emil Hansen and Jørn Lund (two of Denmark’s best riders through time, winners of both world championships and Olympic titles) as well as Blue Water’s riders: Kurt Skov, Carsten Steffensen, Kim Beier and Lennart Voss.

Blue Water Kolding Teambuilding “The A team – concerted action in Yellow Jerseys” was on a teambuilding course at “Gammelrøj” near Kolding on 16-17 September. The start was gentle. Cold refreshments and rounders in bright sunshine - boys versus girls – ending with a runaway victory to the girls hitting the ball “almost” every time The evening continued in high spirits with challenges like guessing games etc. Next day’s challenges, however, were of a more advanced nature. The “High and Low” teambuilding was performed differently – some up in the air spreading their wings whereas others preferred to be on firm ground. All in all, a fantastic experience.

Blue Water Aarhus was represented with 4 running teams and one walking team at the annual DHL Relay in Mindeparken (memorial park) on 16.8. Luckily the weather was beautiful and we achieved splendid results and enjoyed a pleasant evening afterwards. 14

Weekend Event in Brande Everybody involved in the traffic between Denmark and Norway – 30 persons in total - met in Brande, during the weekend of 17-18.9, to exchange ideas and thoughts about the daily routines. The weekend was filled with various activities, both professional and social. Saturday afternoon, a lot of physical activities were on the programme - paintball, throwing the axe and many more – and the mixed teams from Oslo, Copenhagen and Aarhus had some formidable fights against each other.

Our tough girls ready for a paintball game - left to right: Wenche Tøgersen/ Blue Water Oslo, Ann Rasmussen/Blue Water Odense, Julie Pedersen/Blue Water Aarhus, Stine Nørgaard Pedersen/Blue Water Aarhus and Cecilie Clausen/Blue Water Copenhagen.

”Gammelnok” In keeping with tradition, Blue Water Aarhus participated in Fut Cup (football tournament) arranged by Østjyske Speditører (East Jutland Freight Forwarders) on Saturday15.10. Blue Water’s three teams performed well, but did not win any medals.

Our staff club in Esbjerg arranged a collective fishing trip to Nebel Sø (lake) on 25.9. The anglers met at 0900 hours, refreshed after the night’s rest, for a joint breakfast before trying their fortune with fishing rods, bait and various gear. Few of them were lucky, but only one big “goldfish” (according to the children) ended in the basket. The other fish were more or less the size of sardines! Luckily the day’s menu was not fish, but sausages from the barbecue.

A start-up meeting was recently held in Esbjerg in the “Gammelnok” group (gammelnok means old enough). The group is established with the aim to stay in touch with our retired colleagues and keep them updated on what is going on in Blue Water. Though the group is not yet very big, we will try to get the club started. Our middle-aged employees (55+) are also invited into the group to form the link to our “old” colleagues. They still have some years left on the labour market, but in a far distance – depending on their sense of reality - they see their retirement coming, and will be able to benefit from the club themselves. The club members will be active, coming forward with proposals to future events of interest. At the meeting, at lot of interesting proposals came up – and the first event was marked in the calendar; a walk around Kvie Sø (lake) followed by brunch at the lake restaurant. We all look very much forward to this new social initiative.

Jubilees Silver On 20.1, Anne-Grethe Biehl will be celebrating her silver jubilee as secretary in the reception at Blue Water Esbjerg. With her linguistic background, Anne-Grethe has answered an enormous amount of telephone calls and handled just as many translations, of which the English Blue Water News constitutes a considerable part. Over the years, Anne-Grethe has also been our travel organiser booking flight tickets and handling visa applications. When the tasks land on her desk, they will be accomplished in a quiet and serious manner. Anne-Grethe is a cheerful girl, who often delivers the daily entertainment – and sometimes at company parties as well. If you ask her, she might remember Damp 2000! She has a key problem, as she has several times locked herself out of both her house and car. Anne-Grethe is creative. She used to play the bagpipes, loves to paint and visit flea markets. She is a frequent visitor on the island of Fanø – her favourite spot. At home, the male cat, Malthe, has a special place in her heart. Some of us had the pleasure of cycling to Paris together with her. Here we saw her strong willpower, At times the tiredness from the hardships was great, but AnneGrethe just lied down in the grass, while eating her sandwiches, and was ready to continue.

20 years Richard Dunning will be celebrating his 20th jubilee on 17.2.12. Richard joined Blue Water Manchester as a young man and handled export to Sweden. After a couple of years, he took over the Danish export. Richard has, for the past year or so, been on sales, but still manages to help out his colleagues during busy periods and holidays. His ability to step into different roles within the office has led to his colleagues giving him the nickname “Floater”. A keen Manchester City fan, Richard is now able to hold his head high in the office, as a reversal of fortunes on the football scene saw City give United a severe “seeing to” after many years as the underdogs. Despite taking up a career in forwarding, Richard is a well-educated man. Now his daughter, Aimy, is showing that she also has exceptional academic skills, which must make him and his wife, Rachel, very proud.

How time flies! On 1.3.12, Rhona Linehan will be celebrating her 20th anniversary with Blue Water Dublin. Rhona is a true specialist on worldwide reefer transport by ship/container. She has through all the years been involved in transport of food products and possesses invaluable market knowledge. What we wrote in our magazine on the occasion of her 10th anniversary: ”Rhona still rules the office in Dublin with a firm hand”, is still true. To avoid repeating ourselves, we can now also inform that Rhona has not only been doing reefer transportation during the recent 10 years, she has also got a husband and become a mother

10 years Christian Herms of Blue Water Aarhus will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on 1.2. In February 2002, Christian was headhunted from Frode Laursen, Vitten for a job as freight forwarder in the Norwegian department of Unifeeder Forwarding in Aarhus. As from 1.4.2008, however, Blue Water acquired all Unifeeder Forwarding’s activities and Christian has been working as freight forwarder in Blue Water’s Norwegian department ever since. Christian has an extraordinary gift for staying calm and remaining friendly in an often hectic and busy working day which characterizes an extensive road service. If a client or one of Blue Water’s freight forwarding offices need an analytic and pedagogic explanation for a disagreement, Christian, with his sympathetic and winning manners, is usually the one who supplies the information and finds a good solution. Christian enjoys his sparse free time together with his wife, Ann Birthe, and their children Philip and Nicolas. Jan Lundgaard’s second time round is resulting in the celebration of his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.3. Jan has through all the years been involved in UK export – and most of the time from the same place – no moving about. Jan is (almost) always in a good mood – and you will know for sure when he is not :o) He is always willing to help – along with teasing his colleagues, especially the new ones. Jan seldom makes mistakes, and if he on rare occasions does, it is never his fault :o) Besides, there is sometimes something wrong with his keyboard (the keys tend to shift).

When we have a party, Jan puts on his dancing shoes and dances the night away (especially after a glass or two of neat vodka). On the home front, Jan has his hands full with 3 active boys. However, once a year, when the hunting season begins on the island of Mandø, everybody and everything come second. Ten years ago (on 11.3.2002), Tim R. Lind Olsen of Blue Water Odense joined our company. Tim started as trainee in our airfreight department in Copenhagen – first Vallensbæk and then Greve, when the office relocated. During his time on Sealand, Tim concentrated on the Greenland traffic. Tim is born and bred in Søhus close to Odense, and when he in 2007 wished to move back to Funen, he got a job in our airfreight department in Odense. Tim is a very popular and dedicated colleague and has just been promoted to manager of this department. In his spare time, Tim is an enthusiastic athlete who enjoys various sports. Orla Kjærsgaard of Blue Water Aalborg will be celebrating his 10th anniversary at our terminal in Aalborg on 11.3. Orla is a health freak, who gladly passes on his recipe for good health - and wears shorts from April until October. Orla is a football enthusiast both playing and coaching in Hune Boldklub, where he is just as committed as in his job. He is the quiet and modest type, but very dedicated and reliable. Orla has a daughter of 18, and his wife, Helle, has brought two sons into the family. Serene Goh will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Singapore on 22.4. Serene originally started with accounts and administration duties, but gradually wished to take up new challenges and was transferred to our operations department as operations assistant. Serene took on from scratch the special role of servicing our important client Keppel Fels Ltd. and is today key account manager of our project freight forwarding department. She is always willing to lend a helping hand in other departments including sea and airfreight – locally and globally. Serene has the experience, which she is never afraid of sharing with her younger colleagues. Serene is married to Ken Ng and they have two lovely little girls - Chloe and Jamie.
