Simply Me: A Collection of Poems by: Eesha S.
I Jumped Link to Audio: I grasped the crumbly rock with my fingers. Slowly, I pulled myself up. As I came to a stand, I noticed how high I was I was too scared to enjoy the view, or Remember why I did it. With my sweaty palms clamped in fists, I scrambled to the edge Of the rock. Nothing above me but the highest boughs of the trees. Nothing below me but water. Oh, that water. No backing out now, I said to myself I took a deep breath as the man said 3, 2, 1‌. Then, JUMP! As I let the breath out, I closed my eyes And prepared for the worst. I hit the water with a slap And a spray of water. Oh, the water. The cool, icy, spine-chilling water.
My arms were numb as I swam As fast as I could To the boat. It was over. I had done it. I jumped.
Doors Link to Audio There are many doors in life. It's up to you, Which you choose. You can take the yellow door. She's as sunny as a field of daisies on a spring day. She promises a life of happiness. But among the daisies are weeds. Dark weeds, with worms the size of your pinky. You can take the gray door. He gives some challenges, some hardships. Some stormy days, some hurricanes. But at the end, A sunny sky and a cool breeze. At first, you will not enjoy Being in his presence As he is a stormy figure. But, just wait. He'll change. You can take the purple door. She has crazy curls, and loop-de-loops. That you must endure. The end? Well, there is no end. Don't go inside until You are ready. Are you? You can take the orange door. He is not bright orange, like a ripe clementine. Not a deep orange, like the autumn leaves
As they drift to the ground. But orange, like a bubbly bottle of Fanta On a sweltering day. He gives a life of seeming perfection But life's not perfect, you see. You can take the pink door. Her life is full of love and laughter, But when the time comes, The pink must fade. Fade away, into a deep charcoal gray. You can take the blue door. He's very soft and light. Like floating on a cloud In a smooth summer wind. He will always be light, And never hard or demanding. It is hard for him to face The truth. What is the end of these doors? Where do they stop? Where do they begin? Nobody knows, But that my friend, Is life's mystery
Sand Dollar Link to Audio I found a sand dollar On the beach It called my name Like an owl's night screech I found a sand dollar Lying in the sand I picked it up In my soft little hand I found a sand dollar Wet with the sea's shower I wiped it off To find it crowned with a flower I found a sand dollar And clenched it to my chest I ran to my mom A little out of breath "I found a sand dollar! Look at this, Mom!" She glanced lovingly At my outstretched palm "You found a sand dollar, But what should you do? You need to let it go I am telling you."
I found a sand dollar But I had a break through It belonged to the sea Not me or you I found a sand dollar I loved it, so I set it free It came back, so it was mine But if it didn't, it never was meant for me
