My name is Kaison Wu, graduated from Birmingham City University, product design, master. There are two great spirits via my parents I get are positive attitude and responsibility, the two points make me doing ever ything hard, and do my best I can. In the studying, my parents always support any resources I ne¬ed when it is useful. “Study what I interest in, and love what is my interest” is the word I keep in my heart.

In college life, I acquire the professional skill in visual design and have some achievement in contests but it cannot satisfied my ambition, so I start to learn more about product design. To gain more knowledge, I spend two sessions to study the territor y and even get a chance, via my father to practice more professional face in drafting, material estimating and final modeling in the CAMEO Company. When I complete the basic ability, I am interesting in the minimalism of product, no more over decoration and just have necessar y element. “L ess is more” the MUJI designer-Fukasawa Naoto said. That is the issue I really want to study in and it will become my principle of design. After that, I have the opportunity to study abroad in BCU, product design, to learn more knowledge and different culture with professors and classmates. Moreover, in the period, I experience the process of design, the interaction with users and the different of thinking between European and Asian; the English skill is progressing as well.

After my master degree, I realize there are many things I need to progress and the aim working with colleagues from different countries makes me internationalized. Therefore, from now, accumulating my working experience in Taiwan or other countries will help me have more opportunities to work abroad.

The aim of this project is that brings the natural image and function into design and makes user enjoy the wild atmosphere even in their room. Following from this on, the concept is using the image of mushroom to design a lamp and that will look like a mushroom grows up from plug. With symbolism, the appearance neat cur ve is simplified from the image of mushroom and the top of lamp cap is an adjusting button which can make illumination

power- saving LED source. Furthermore, the night lamp can broadcast white noise such as the sound for forest which can allow user relax and release pressure. The target user may be nature -loving group.

這產品的目的主要是把打自然的意象與功能帶 入設計,而讓使用者也能享受自然的氛圍在家 中。以此發想後,以蘑菇的造型作為夜燈的概 念,有如插座上長出蘑菇一般。以象徵主義, 把蘑菇的造型簡化至俐落的曲線,而菌傘是為 可旋轉式的調節鈕以便調節光暗度。此外,在 夜裡能夠撥放如森林中的白噪音可讓使用者放 鬆舒壓;產品最適合自然愛好者。

This product was my first creation when I was entered Cameo Co., Ltd. which mainly produces network-related products mostly network modems for my internship. Due to most products being changed into more light and portable in this decade, the project is following the trend as well and even makes it for outdoors usage.

這作品是第一次接觸產品設計時所研發的同時 也第一次在友勁(CAMEO)股份有限公司實習。 公司主要生產網路相關產品,而主要的是網路 數據機。由於近幾年產品趨向輕巧好攜帶,這 作品一隨著趨勢進行設計甚至能讓數據機在室 外使用。

Therefore, the minimalism is the design principle in this project and it’s suitable for palm- size holding.

In addition, the outward

appearance adopts a grand rounding for reducing getting injure and promoting a comfort touching. This modem is different in color from others in the past. The mainly market focus on youth generation and colorful product can represent their image of energ y and young. Following from this on, I want to make it like personal belonging and reflect their personality such as ipod. And explore the youth market.

因此,這作品以極簡主義的概念為主,使體積縮小至手掌的大小 。而且,外觀大量的倒角讓觸感提升和降低刮傷的風險。與市面 上產品相比,此數據機大膽用色來吸引年輕族群,顏色如同這世 代有活力和年輕。從此觀點出發,我希望能使這產品像Ipad依 樣屬於隨身個性化商品。同時拓展年輕殂群的市場。

This product is applicant’s second creative work during my internship in Cameo Co., Ltd. By the time, I proposed this prototype product, and the mini projector was just at early stage of development in the market of electronics manufacturing industr y. In this trend the developments

of

projector,

nowadays,

the

product is no longer confined to office use but into daily lifestyle, leisure and entertainment areas;

moreover,

the size of

projector

is

required to be smaller and more portable convenience.

此產品是第二次在友勁(CAMEO)股份有限 公司實習時的作品,當時在市場上,微型投 影機正值開發的初期,我便選擇這案子做實 習時的開發。此產品的趨勢是改變以往的傳 統投影機,除了大小外,不在只是侷限於公 事上,更是將產品融入生活娛樂中,突破以 往的不便。


Through market research, I simulate the configuration of electric circuit board by recent projectors and design the outward appearance. The appearance of the product is designed with a simple arc cur ves which refers the situation of human holding by hands in ergonomic study. Following from this on, the structure can promote user a smooth touch and comfortable operation; in addition, there is a tripod which can adjust angle of projecting under the shell. Due to the portable feature, the power is supplied by batter y and it can be charging by phone or lop tap.

在市場調查之後,模擬了產品內的電路板配置和設計產品 的外觀。透過人因研究,以簡單的弧度詮釋握住手掌的曲 線。藉由此點,可讓使用者更舒適的操作與觸感。而且, 產品下方的腳架設計可調整使用時所需橋的放映角度。因 為可攜帶型的特色,能量供應除了可用充電電池外也可透 過電腦或手機充電。

This project is mainly based on material replacement. The material polypropylene provides matted surface and the sense of cool and fresh; besides, it’s easy to shape. Therefore, the material is suitable to develop the package design. Also, because of translucent finish, the material can enhance the sense of fashion while products are loaded into the bag and the shape or logos may be seen. After that, there are two kind of bag design, beer-bottle carr ying bag and hand-carried bag.

這作品主要嘗試材料的變化。聚丙烯有霧面特質和冷 又清涼的感覺;而且容易逤型。因此,這材料很適合 運發展在這設計中。也因為半透明的表面處理,能給 人種高級時尚感當主要產品被裝載在袋子中能隱約透 出商邀與身形若影若現的感覺。而運用此特點,主要 發展出兩種不一樣的袋子設計。

Beer-bottle carrying bag

The structure is based on the principle of locking via reverse hook belt flip. Also, the belt can provide some space for bottle to place when folding. The weight of these items helps lock the space and make the bottles more secure. Moreover, the sense of cool and fresh further signifies an image of tasty beer. 設計結構的發想出自於皮帶扣環原理。而 且,這皮帶原理當折疊後可以提供空間給 瓶子放置;瓶子的重量會幫助袋子讓每個 空間都鎖住而安全。整體可提供清涼的感 覺而更符合冷飲的形象。


Hand-carried bag

This type doesn’t limit to loading certain items. Its feature is that the bag can upload units for carr ying and it’s like a folder with number of holding pages. Then, it can be locked with a latch.

這款袋子沒有限制任何裝載物,而他的特點是 能夠加裝單原件而增加空間放置物品。有如資 料加一般能夠增加每一個書頁。最後能用卡榫 扣住每一個單元件得以裝載物品。

This is a case study and team work project for the course of product design at school. From market sur vey, we categorized three kinds of peeler in recent market including: 1. Practical type, easy to peel but the blade is exposed without protection. 2. Covered type, blade under protection but the product is bigger than others and difficult to hold it. 3. Interesting type, the design is emerged with cartoon characters and makes users have fun experience but doesn’t have proper protection on the blade. Furthermore, we discovered a problem from questionnaire sur vey that the peeled shreds scattered around, resulting in a dirty environment when peeling. Therefore, the summar y of design purpose is that avoids the blade exposed and keeps a clean area when using this product.

這是在產品設計課的一個團隊合作的作品。從 市場調查,我們把市面上的削皮器分類成三種 :a.實用型-方便削果皮,但刀片過分裸露, 易割傷手指。b.包覆型-雖刀片有作保護,但 體型較大不易掌握。c.趣味型-融合趣味人物 ,讓使用時添增樂趣,卻沒有對刀片做安全保 護。進一步得,我們透過問卷調查發現使用者 通常在使用時會造成果皮散亂的問題,而造成 環境髒亂。因此,總結這設計目的是防止刀片 外露和保持使用時的環境整潔。

The image of real model

The concept of peeler originates from butterfly, because the switch off/on structure is similar to letter X and we urge that offering a good quality of working space can make users have more efficiency and enhance elegant image. The outward appearance is cylindrical shape and able to collect all shreds while peeling; after that, the structure can be opened and clean all the peeled shreds out. The mainly material are transparent acr ylic which can be see through the structure for avoiding the shreds remain and soft plastic that the part of holding can increase the friction on palm to prevent slipping. Moreover, the blade is half exposed to reduce the accident happened.

削皮器的概念是從蝴蝶發想來的,因為產品 的結構,在開關時如同字母X,在與柔和的 意象做結合,而且我們推廣提供好的工作品 質能使工作效率提升和增加優雅的形象。外 型設計是圓柱狀且能蒐集殘渣至其中。再者 ,此產品的結構是可被打開清理的;主要的 產品素材是透明的壓克力,為了能便利檢查 殘留物和清理乾淨,而手把是軟塑料,為了 增加手握時的舒適度和防止手滑。最後,刀 片以半落露的形式呈現,可降低刀片刮傷的 意外發生。


The user group is focused on women of young ages and they tend to be more care about the decoration and quality of kitchen environment. Therefore, we present a light and soft color which makes overall product more bright, translucent and elegant.

消費族群落在年輕婦女年齡層,會裝飾自己 的廚房和廚具品質的要求,所以此產品也訴 求在不用時能作為一個裝飾品,為廚房添增 一些時尚感。色彩上,以淡雅色系為主。因 為壓克力材質,整體看起來更是透亮高雅。

The product is similar to hand ring with innermost layer made of soft plastic and that is easy to be fixed on the handle. In addition, its outermost layer is made of paper horn contented waterproof-painted and middle is a space for Bluetooth device and other electronic system. The target market is focusing

The maritime rescue is a difficult task and hard to sustain human sur vival at sea. In addition to life boat, life vest also is the important key to rescue and sur vival. Therefore, the project is that strengthen the functional performance of life vest and the main purpose of ser ves are sustain golden rescue time and strengthen distress signal equipment.

海上救援一直是項艱難的任務,不僅是難搜 救而且在海上難延續人類生存力。除了逃生 挺之外,救生衣就是救援的關鍵。因此,這 產品主要強化救生衣的性能:1.延續黃金 救援時間2.加強求救裝備

Generally, losing body temperature leads to a weakened vitality; following from this, the vest can sustain life by heat conductivity material, a special fabric. Moreover, the power is supplied by batter y and it will resume body temperature first. After that, with the theor y which generates power via thermal gap to product electronic heat, power can be offered by this system through using the temperature gap between product and sea water. Furthermore, for enhancing the efficiency of rescue and search mission, there are distress signal device and LED light on shoulder which makes user easy to be identified at night; and behind the vest, there is a hidden hat which can prevent sunburn and wound infection in the day time as well. In addition, the vest is contented basic equipment such as whistle, flashlight and hook ring.

ROCKING NEST

My project is to improve the development of children aged 5 to 10 years old and encourage interaction in an outdoor play area through informal learning with an emphasis on play. The design includes an installation and playground system which encourages children who are not used to playing with such apparatus to participate. This product therefore encourages children to play a pinball game which requires team cooperation and

the

development

of

ability

to

balance.

By

interacting with peers, they experience team-work which can cultivate the skill of

negotiation and

cooperation. Through participating

in such group

activities,

children

build

up

their

self-esteem,

confidence and are given the opportunity to develop trust relationships with peers.

There are two features for my design that make it distinguishable from other products. First of all, these installations will supply kinetic energ y during play and offer the energ y for a lighting system at night. Secondly, because different angles will set off these unpredictable fountains during playing the installation, children staying in the playground also can have interaction with water without playing on the installation. Therefore, all the children interact with each other but are allowed to stay with their own comfort z one.

In sum, the design of this installation in the playground relates to the informal learning of children in relation to sharing and the development of interpersonal skills.

Through braining storming, I am thinking how I can make the cost be lower than before research the recycling of polypropylene. After that, it would be possible to achieve this aim and the recycle material that doesn’t require degradation a second time round. However, the quality of recycled material is not better than virgin material and because of this, I intend to use 50% recycled and 50% virgin plastic. When the idea is established, I aim continue with the image of eco -friendly chairs which are ideal when purchased in bulk for educational purposes. The purpose is evolutionar y in material aspects and through the consideration of the eco issue, Hille can maintain long relationships with consumers and build a good image of being friendly to the environment. Moreover, the cost would be lower than using virgin plastic.

At first, my concept that using recycled material would be more profit and good for environment is overthrown, because there is negative information about recycling. Fortunately, when I visiting Hille’s factor y, the chairman, Forster B. told me about the future plan recycling their own chairs which would not mix other polymers and can using again directly. After that, my concept can keeps going and using recycled material conforms the brand value, low-cost; therefore, I design a chair with this plan and make a new image for Hille.

Downshifting

Downshifting is a trend to guide people escaping from rapid-paced and enjoy ever y moment within simple life style. Moreover, it can ease pressure and find a balance between work and life. In this poster design, I construct the scene of a metronome stopped in the moment and it provides the slowly feeling that almost frozen the time and space. Overall, people can feel the atmosphere of elegant and slow; they also will reflect on their rapid and stressful life.

慢活是一種社會趨勢,使人從快速的步調逃脫 ,投入簡單慢速度的生活。而取能紓壓和找到 工作與生活的平衡點。這海報以節拍器定格在 畫面中的氛圍去顯示時間與空間的緩慢。整體 給人優雅又慢步調的感覺,使人反思自己的快 速與壓力的生活。

In this project, I explored the difference between creating a useable product and a piece of art; In addition, I wanted to explore the conventions of simply creating a concept. Due to almost ever yone like surprise, I design a structure in the package box for surprising user when they open it. With the theor y of lever rule, I build a card board linked with the case in the box and then the action of open will drive the card board moving; finally, the phone case will be prop -up with the fulcrum below the box. The design is provided the function of display and make user feel be welcome.

幾乎每個人都喜歡快樂的驚喜,所以我在殼子設計了個結構 ,能給使用者在打開盒子的當下有出奇不意的驚喜。簡單利 用槓桿原理,在盒子內加載一個硬紙板與盒蓋相聯,再開合 的動作和運動方向帶動了紙板,最後,靠下盒當支撐點,把 手機盒撐起。有展示與迎接使用者的功能。
