Congratulations on your engagement! Wedding planning can be a wonderful combination of fun and exciting, but also a tad stressful and intimidating. That second part is why it’s so important to hire vendors that click well with your personality and bring a sense of peace and assurance to your wedding day. With so many photographers to choose from, I’m honored that you’re considering Caley Newberry Photography. One thing all weddings have in common is that the day will fly by for the bride and groom, and I’d love to be a part of it to ensure you can remember every detail, every love-filled-glance and every once-ina-lifetime moment for years to come. There are a lot of questions to ask and information to retain, and this planning guide is meant to walk you through all your photography-related questions.

WEDDINGS I have three goals for each wedding I shoot. The first, naturally, is to capture the most stunning and timeless images that you’ll truly view as an investment. The second is to really get to know my couples and have fun with you before, on and even after your wedding day — to be an encouragement to your marriage, not just your wedding. I also want to cultivate an atmosphere where, even if the schedule is completely off or your flower girl spills pink nail polish on her white dress (totally happened at my wedding), I can help you stay relaxed and assured that we’ll still get every shot we need. I believe that the attitude of your photographer can change the overall enjoyment of your day, and I always want my attitude to reflect the joyous occasion your marriage already is. With features ranging from a complimentary engagement session to custom table cards and a same-day slideshow, I try to make the wedding photography experience a positive one for both you and your guests. With that, I recommend a few things to help enhance that experience for you and those there to celebrate you. Let’s talk about a First Look.

SO, SHOULD I HAVE A
FIRST LOOK? Deciding whether a First Look is right for your wedding can be tough, and it’s certainly an important decision. Speaking from a photographic standpoint, we’ll capture all the photos you want whether it’s before the wedding or after, so it really doesn’t matter much to me. But I will say I’ve never had a couple regret the more laid back and intimate wedding day a First Look usually provides. The real benefit of a First Look comes in setting the tone for your day. Seeing each other beforehand gives you time together, on your wedding day (crazy!), to focus on the commitment you’re about to make to each other and enjoy the company of your guests Bonus, who calms your nerves better than your soon-to-be? I recommend First Looks to
most anyone, but especially to couples not having a cocktail hour and those hosting an evening ceremony. This allows us to finish all the pictures before the wedding even begins, leaving you free to enjoy your reception and allowing your guests to enjoy you. After all, you’re why they’re there! My best advice? Go with your gut. Only you know what will be most meaningful to you, and only you can make that choice. But, if you choose a First Look, it’ll go down like this: I’ll find a private place, where I’ll capture your groom’s reactions and your first moments together. Then, I’ll leave you with a few minutes of alone time to talk, reflect, pray or just enjoy the brief time alone. When you’re ready, we’ll begin your formal portraits. Sounds great, amIright?

ENGAGEMEN I offer a complimentary engagement session with each wedding package. These sessions let you unofficially practice feeling comfortable in front of the camera, and we get to know one another better before your wedding day. All that mushy stuff leaves you with stunning portraits I think you’ll love just as much as your wedding photos.
NT SESSIONS
Most people prefer to have their engagement photos taken outdoors, so we’ll start your session about two hours before sunset to capture the best light. You’re welcome to bring a change of clothes. I recommend blending a mixture of colors and textures rather than matching, but the most important thing is to choose an outfit that makes you feel Beyoncé hot. I encourage you to pick a location that’s meaningful to you, but if you’re drawing a blank, I’m happy to suggest locations, too.
Before your wedding, I’ll ask you to fill out an extensive questionnaire. This assures no detail is missed. I’ll then work with your planner and send you a to-the-minute schedule so everyone knows where to be and when. We’ll be so organized you’ll say “I can’t believe this creative photographer is so well-planned and Type A!” I’m totally faking that part, which comes in handy if the timeline gets thrown off for whatever reason. We’ll still get every photo we want and relax in knowing we gave a schedule our best shot.
WHEN ONE GENERATION BECOMES THE NEXT Following your wedding day, I’ll edit and upload all of your photos to your Pixieset gallery, which will already have your engagements and the photos from your same-day slideshow. Since each package comes with a print credit, I’ll work with you to choose the best way to get your photos off a screen and on display. That credit can also be applied to a spectacular handmade (not by me) album, carefully printed on thick photographic paper — not the press printing you see in most albums — and are truly designed to last a lifetime. I’d love to meet with you in person for an ordering session to help you decide how each product could fit with your personal style, but you can certainly do it all online as well.
I LOVE IT ALL! ... NOW WHAT?
YAY! I love you too! I’ll start on your friendship bracelet right away. This will serve as your formal contract. OK, my lawyer said that won’t work and I should probably scale back the affection. My bad. But it’s still really easy. Pick whichever package you want, and I’ll send you an easy-to-understand contract. You’ll sign it and pay your retainer either online or by sending a check. That’s it! Payment plans are just as easy. As long as your final balance is paid 14 days prior to your wedding, the rest of your payments can be made however is best for you. Now, all you have to do is find a florist, a caterer, a cake artist, a dress and scour Pinterest for hours to make sure you’ve found all the coolest details. No biggie! Thank you so much for considering Caley Newberry Photography.
