WELCOME EMILY CARTER TO CALICO GALS! The Wonderful World of Sewing Machines Saturday, October 22 10:00 - 1:00 pm or 2:00 - 5:00 pm Sewing machines have changed so much! Join Calico Gals and Emily Carter as she demonstrates exactly what machines can do these days! Prepare to be amazed and go home with a whole new outlook on the world of sewing and quilting.
Emily has been designing and constructing garments since the age of 13, and has an excellent foundation in sewing, serging, embroidery design and digitizing. Since 1992, she has taught serger and sewing classes at highprofile events nationwide. Her work has garnered numerous awards and appeared in a variety of industry books and magazines. Emily’s lectures are filled with tips and techniques to make sewing more efficient and fun.
$20 per person includes: Emily’s fun lecture, refreshments, a free pattern and a $10 coupon to spend how you want!

Autumn Stitching! Snowman Shenanigans
with Rosanne Brown
Sunday October 2 Noon – 4:00 pm
Spend a fun afternoon with Rosanne making an adorable wall hanging by Kim Diehl. This project includes a sampling of techniques including piecing and appliqué. Get some great free motion quilting tips from Rosanne (she’s really good!). Although not complete in 4 hours, with some prep work before class, you will be on your way to a very sweet holiday project. Fee: $30

Autumn Blessings: Machine Appliqué Class
with Beth Broadway Create a beautiful 14 x 56” wall hanging that celebrates the blessings of fall!
Take home both a wonderful project and a lifetime skill of machine appliqué when you join this fantastic class. Learn to prepare your appliqué pieces and receive a complete lesson on different types of fusibles and stabilizers. Fee: $30 Charming with Lisa Wennberg Thursday, October 20 5:30 – 7:30 pm It happens to all of us… we find out we need a baby quilt right away. Charming is the answer! Fidget Quilt with Candy Tucker Tues. November 15 10:30 am – 1:00 pm
Fidget quilts are small lap quilts made to entertain or calm people of any age who suffer with dementia, autism, blindness, and sensory issues. And… they are even lots of fun for everyone else! Fidget quilts contain fun “feely” fabrics and small items to fiddle with. Create a fidget quilt personalized for the person for whom you are making it. Go home with lots of ideas for making more fidget quilts. Class fee of $35 includes class, pattern, an assortment of “fidget” items to attach to your quilt and a selection of textured fabrics. You should start with the Wedding Star Table Topper! It is a beautiful wedding ring pattern with stars in the middle - a new twist on the classic quilt. The topper can be a great companion to a bed-sized version and will give you the confidence needed to tackle the big quilt! It may be called a table topper, but Julie is hanging this on her wall! The class meets once a month for four months and is a great way to learn the Judy Niemeyer foundation piecing techniques needed to make any of her patterns including the larger wedding ring quilts. Because it is so fun, so foolproof and so fantastic! Create the whimsical sheep in the pumpkins to frame or stuff for a pillow. Lisa is teaching some great tricks on using the 15-degree ruler. Choose assorted fabrics for the backing pieces and the tree skirt becomes reversible! Quick and Cute Tuffet! with Lisa Wennberg Saturday, Dec. 3 10:30 am - 4:30 pm The tuffet craze is sweeping the quilting world! How fun to use our quilting skills to make something extraordinary! Learn to use a 15 degree ruler to cut your wedges. Then assemble those wedges into a cylindrical shape and create the cover for this adorable tuffet. Enjoy your sewing machine! Free Motion Machine Quilting with Candy Tucker Wed. November 30 & December 7 10:30 am – 12:30 pm This class will take the scary out of machine quilting! Learn to quilt using your walking foot and free motion foot. Make a sample book of quilting patterns so next time you are ready to make a quilt, simply open your sample book and choose from the quilting patterns you learned to do. With Candy’s encouragement, you will have fun and explore your inner artist. Be surprised at what you can do! Fee: $30
Happy Endings 101: Borders

Will you do simple overlapping or more interesting mitered borders? What about using a border print or stripes! Maybe you’ll try multiple borders or a border with a flange for a change. How about adding some prairie points, corner stones or even a pieced piano keys border? But, which is best to add the most interest and not detract from what you have already done? And, how do you figure out how much fabric you’ll need for those borders? In this technique class you will be making samples of all of the above borders that you can reference for years to come.

S.O.S. Serge on Sergers! with Melissa Morgante Fridays: Oct. 14, Nov. 11, Dec. 9 10:00 am – 3:00 pm The 2nd Friday of each month is a day of serging! Use your serger to the max! Start, continue or finish your current project. Melissa will provide encouragement and advice. Receive a 15% class discount on materials needed that day to finish your project. S.O.S. is for you if you have attended Serger Relief with Melissa or can convince her you know your serger well. Any brand of serger is welcome. Bring something to share for lunch. Fee: $10

There are a variety of feet attachments that can produce a variety of results in your sewing. Learn with Melissa to use the spectacular feet on the BL Serger including the Clear foot, Piping, Beading, Blind hem, Lace Applicator, Elastic and Gathering Foot. Learn a lot and have fun, too! Destiny Embroidery Club with Nina Dukette Tuesdays: October 18, Nov. 22, Dec. 13 1:00 - 4:00 pm The most beautiful sewing and embroidery machine in the Babylock line up can do the most beautiful things! Learn something new each month and use your machine to the max. Fee: $10 each class
Happy Endings 102: Bindings with Kathy Barden Saturday, December 10 10:30 am to 3:00 pm Now that your quilt top (jacket, tote, table runner, placemats, etc.) is quilted, how are you going to finish it? Do you want to add scallops, or rounded corners? Do you need to cut straight of grain or on the bias binding? Blunt end or mitered corners? What about a corded, false or two colored binding? Will you hand sew it to the back of your quilt or machine it with a decorative stitch and gathered eyelet? If you have questions like these (or any others) about bindings, this class is for you. A follow up to Happy Endings 101: Borders, this is the next step in the “Git ‘er done” series. Make samples to use as references for years to come. Fee: $35
Continuing education sergers and sewing machines Basic Computer Skills for Embroiderers with Tom Baxter Thursday October 6 6:00 – 8:00 pm Confidence with your computer skills will give you more flexibility when sewing. Review basic computer terminology (disk drives, curser, task bar, etc.), file and folder manipulation, internet downloads and the use of USB thumb drives. Create a folder, download a file, copy it to the folder you created and then copy it to an USB thumb drive. You can do this! Many of the concepts are the same for both Windows and Macs, but the visual aids will show Windows screens. Laptop required for class. Fee: $20
Bobbin Work for Babylock machines with Nina Dukette Tuesday Sep 20 1:00 - 3:30 pm or Thursday Sep 29 5:30 - 8:00 pm Many of you received the Special Bobbin Work case when you purchased your machine. This is your chance to try it out! In this technique class, learn to correctly wind a bobbin and all about the recommended stitches to use.
