BRAIN STORMING

Brainstorming is a creativity technique that tries to find a solution for a specific problem by gathering ideas proposed by the different members of a team or by a single individual. The purpose of brainstorming is using these ideas to craft an original and creative solution to the problem.

The term Brainstorming was popularized by Alex Faickney Osborn in his book from 1953 Applied Imagination. Osborn had published 4 books related to creative thinking before.

Osborn founded the BDO advertising agency in 1919 along with Bruce Fairchild Barton and Roy Sarles Durstine. In 1954 he created the Creative Education Foundation.

Osborn’s Method 1.Focus on quantity: the greater the number of ideas produced, the greater the chances of achieving an effective solution

3. Unusual ideas are welcome: participants are encouraged to generate unusual ideas that can lead to new and exciting solutions.

2. No criticism allowed: any criticism of ideas should be put on hold. This way, participants will feel free to generate non conventional ideas

4.Combination of ideas: ideas can be combined and associated to produce better results.
