WELCOME HYMN 23 CALL TO WORSHIP
Prelude in C Major, BWV 553 J.S. Bach (1685 - 1750) Matthew Daley, Organ Jason Smith Praise, My Soul, the God of Heaven LAUDA ANIMA
Leah Grundset Davis
Young and old, sons and daughters of God, all you who are the diverse creations of God’s imagination and love, join in praise and thanksgiving as we worship the One who brings us together! We come to this place, bringing our varied stories, our unique gifts, and our distinct calls to serve. We come together in partnership and mission, knowing that we are called to be the church: to celebrate God’s presence, to serve others, to seek justice, to offer the hope of the Resurrected Christ. We are called to be the body of Christ—a community of believers, a household of faith, a communion of saints, the people of the covenant. We are called to the one hope of our high calling—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God. As members of the body of Christ, we covenant together in this hour to build on our sure foundation of Jesus Christ our Lord and to seek the vision of Christ’s hope for the world. Let us worship God! CALVARY UNPLUGGED, 2013. From July 28 to September 1, we will gather for worship in Woodward Hall to celebrate a participatory, less formal kind of holy time together. Our theme for Unplugged this year is the biblical book of Judges–specifically the men of Judges! The book of Judges introduces us to some very interesting men, to say the least. Guiding our exploration of the texts are six storytellers from our congregation. Calvary has many gifted and theologically trained members, and Unplugged will be just the opportunity for us to hear from them in worship. Please join us for riveting Biblical texts and talented storytellers, all summer long!
