But why do we turn killers, robbers, and gangsters into heroes, or atleastanti-heroes?Andwhichonesgetthattreatment?Thiscourse matchesupthereal-lifestoriesofseveralofthesefigureswiththe legends they’ve become, as told by the movies. Each class begins with adiscussionofamovieaboutoneofthesefigures,thengoesonto compare it to the real life of these criminals, and looks at how the person became the legend. We start with some English examples, then move on to the gunslingers of the Wild West and the gangsters of the 1920s and 1930s here in the U.S. Movie list and bibliography provided. Looking at current and year-round opportunities, the lunch and learn workshop (1 hour, Sec. 01 and 03) introduces participants to short and long-term volunteer options at dozens of nonprofit agencies representing a vast and varied local volunteer landscape. Attendees are encouraged to jump in with relevant first-hand experiences, but we will move along at a pace! During the volunteer fair (1.5-hours, Sec. 02) we will first discuss how to find and contribute value in a volunteer role that- matches your inter ests, time and talents, and then we will segue to your choice of breakout rooms, where you can meet up to a dozen volunteer managers from diverse agencies.
