“Chris was a fun and casual instructor. I am glad to learn guitar in a casual and low pressure environment. I thought Chris did very well demonstrating techniques over Zoom and keeping the class entertaining.” —REBECCA M., INSTANT GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS
All music students must provide their own instruments. Students will need to rent an instrument if they do not own one.

MUSIC APPRECIATION
Chris Brenne | Musician & Composer, B.A. Berklee College of Music
LISTENING TO PUCCINI Michael Frank | Ph.D. Cornell University
Giacomo Puccini remains, along with Verdi, at the very heart of the opera repertory—and arguably speaks more directly to us because of his mastery of theatrical effect and because his operas are anchored in a somewhat more modern idea about realist theater. In this course we’ll consider his earliest great success, Manon Lescaut, one of the operas of his middle period prime, most likely Tosca, and one of his later and more subtle works. While each opera will be placed in its historical and cultural context, the emphasis will always be on carefully listening to and learning the music itself, and not on background information. COURSE CODE: COMO Sec. 01: 8 Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30pm. Begins Jun. 23 | $240
A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES! MUSIC IN FILM Ryan Noe | Northeastern University, Adjunct Professor of High Brass In this course we will discuss how music within movies can affect different scenes and emotions. Some of the composers we will discuss include John Williams, Howard Shore, Danny Elfman, and Hans Zimmer. COURSE CODE: MUSI Sec. 01: 5 Mondays, 7:30-8:45pm. Begins Jun. 21 | $125 No class Jul. 5
This is a guitar class for beginners on steroids! We’ll use innovative practice methods to get faster and better results without taxing your valuable time. Anyone can buy a chord book, look up songs on YouTube, or download a tab, but this class will show you how to make use of these resources. We’ll focus on how to put a chord progression together with rhythm and expression in order to play songs using strumming and some fingerpicking. You’ll walk out of the first lesson having started playing your first song! Students have to bring their own guitar or rent one. CCAE does not provide them in class. COURSE CODE: GTB1 Sec. 01: 4 Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm. Begins Jun. 29 | $115
