Since we printed our first book in 1534, Cambridge University Press has continuously published materials that unlock people’s potential with the best learning and research solutions.
In 2014, we partnered with Editorial Edinumen, a prestigious ELE (Español Lengua Extranjera) publisher, with a global reputation for quality and innovative methodology that complimented our approach to English language teaching. We have come together with a shared vision – to impact the teaching of the Spanish language to students in the U.S., helping them acquire the skills necessary for fluent communication. With a 25-year history that grew out of their successful private school, Edinumen is a publisher specialized in creating materials for learning and teaching Spanish as a foreign language. With over 400 publications in use around the globe, Edinumen provides complete solutions that combine the best content with modern learning platforms and a student-centered approach. Edinumen has been a worldwide pioneer in the creation of different materials for learning Spanish with a commitment to research and supporting the ongoing professional development of teachers. Our partnership has produced a full line of Spanish language materials for learners at every age – from the very start of their language journey in elementary school to more advanced study at the college and university levels. With the support of Edinumen, we have realized our goal to create a series of programs that are fully accessible to the modern learner in a range of different formats. We are certain this partnership will impact the Spanish language learning community through quality content and innovation – helping learners communicate in Spanish in an ongoing, practical way.

WHAT MAKES OUR SPANISH COURSES SPECIAL
How did you learn to ride a bike? Did you sit in a chair while someone explained the fundamentals of bike riding, or did you go outside and give it a try? Did you get better by memorizing a set of expert techniques, or did you get a few skinned knees until you improved? Whether it’s riding a bike or learning a language, people learn best by doing! Out-of-context grammar and vocabulary skills or exercises designed to master isolated language functions can be difficult to use when you want to express yourself or understand something new. Even more importantly, this kind of instruction can make us forget Spanish is a living language that people speak all over the world.
An inductive learning journey of discovery and inference that keeps students actively involved and deepens their understanding of language.
Immersive, relatable scenarios steeped in real-life learning that provide a framework for communication.

INDUCTIVE LEARNING From the first page of every unit, students are invested in the inductive learning approach. The motivation to learn vocabulary and grammar is driven by the language functions needed to talk about subjects they care about. Meaningful communication is supported through scaffolded support of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in a media- and information-rich environment. Then, after explicit language instruction, students practice the language forms and vocabulary for true Spanish mastery.
REAL-LIFE LEARNING When students connect language with real-world scenarios and challenges, they become more engaged in learning. In preparation for a vastly different workforce, the days when students were required to listen and not question, or memorize and repeat are long gone. This evolution of education nurtures in-depth understanding and a passion for connection.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
CULTURAL & INTERCULTURAL LEARNING
Research shows that incorporating learning strategies into language curricula helps student become more effective language learners and facilitates a self-actualizing approach to achieving language goals. This philosophy helps students work smarter through the use of specific self-developed strategies, which have a profound influence on learning outcomes. By developing skills in learning-how-to-learn, students can better exploit classroom-learning opportunities and can more easily expand their language learning outside of the classroom.
Spanish is a vital, living language – which can be surprisingly easy to forget when conjugating endless strings of verbs. These programs remind us that the purpose of language is to connect: with ourselves and with others, in our own communities and around the world. By calling attention to the rich diversity of Hispanic cultures around the world, Cambridge Spanish programs explore opportunities to travel and experience other cultures.
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL RELEVANCE Embedding students’ interests in the speaking, listening, reading, and writing lessons helps learners achieve learning objectives and brings Spanish language to life. With themes developed to reflect students’ interests, these programs create a deeper connection through relevant activities and content that is familiar. This engagement not only creates a compelling classroom experience, it also builds neural connections and long-term memory storage for language retention. Research shows that being truly engaged increases learners’ attention and focus, motivates them to practice higher-order critical thinking skills, and promotes meaningful learning experiences. www.cambridge.org/cambridgespanish

The unit theme, vocabulary, and grammar in a cultural context combine to help students make connections to their own culture and experiences as they practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This section also develops critical thinking skills.
Scaffolded activities using short clips from feature films produced in Argentina, Spain, and other Hispanic countries ask students to anticipate content and predict outcomes. Students are encouraged to use multiple skills to assess meaning through interpretation, rather than focusing solely on language.
Vocabulary and communicative functions are grouped together to form a cohesive unit of instruction. Vocabulary, presented in context, is sequenced through a series of activities that build from one to the next. Working through these activities with a partner or in small groups encourages students to approach learning as a community.

HABLAMOS
Level: Novice High to Advanced Low
Hablamos is a flexible solution structured across six levels, each with 20 lessons that are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and the Curriculum Plan of the Cervantes Institute (PCIC). This new Spanish course supports online or distance (e-learning) Spanish courses. Hablamos gives students easy access to their course materials before class, at home, even on their way work–anytime and anywhere. • Short video clips present the language in context, with vocabulary and grammar presentation at the start of each lesson. Each clip features a variety of native and non-native speakers to help the learning process. • Audio-only recordings of the Hablamos videos test comprehension to review previously learned language, and introduce new language functions–students focus on how each word sounds, giving them an in-depth audible feel for the language. • Tutorials ensure that students understand and internalize the language by diving deeper into the grammar, vocabulary, and principal communication strategies of the lesson. • Interactive activities allow students to practice and combine the skills they have learned so that they not only learn the language, but use it. • Offline access to downloadable grammar and vocabulary content and expansion activities ensures students have access to their materials any time, any place. • Classroom management tools help monitor press, personalize instruction, and integrate teacher–created activities.
