Northeastern’s Master of Science in Music Industry Leadership (MS.MIL) prepares the next generation of music leaders through global, real-world engagement and state-of-the-art best practices in management, leadership, and entrepreneurship. We also offer a JD/MS.MIL dual degree option in coordination with the Northeastern University School of Law.

Professional The professional path is designed for those interested in developing highlevel training in music management. Graduate students with several years of work experience are encouraged to apply to this program.
CURRICULUM
The professional path consists of five core courses, four to six music industry electives, and two to four business courses. Students take eleven semester hours of electives from a wide array of courses offered by the Department of Music. A further six semester hours of courses are taken at the renowned D’Amore –McKim School of Business.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The MS.MIL is an intensive one-year program that will position you for creative, entrepreneurial, and management roles that address emerging issues in the music industry. Leveraging Northeastern’s excellence in global experiential learning, our program lets you study in Boston and gain realworld experience in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, and other music capitals worldwide. You will shape your own curriculum, following a path that meets your personal and professional aspirations through a focus on the profession, practice, entrepreneurship, or research. The degree consists of a minimum of 32 semester hours and nine courses.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
The practice path is designed for those interested in gaining real-world experience in the music industry.

CURRICULUM
SPRING
The practice path consists of five core courses, four to six music industry electives, and two to four business courses. Students take eleven semester hours of electives from an array of courses offered by the Department of Music and six semester hours of courses at the renowned D’Amore-McKim School of Business. A co-op concludes the requirements for the path.
Entrepreneurship The entrepreneurship path is designed for those interested in developing new ventures in the music industry. This program acts as a “global meeting place” where executives and students share best practices.
CURRICULUM
The entrepreneurship path consists of five core courses, four to six music industry electives, and two to four business courses taken at the D’Amore– McKim School of Business. A capstone project concludes the requirements for this concentration.
Research The research path is designed for those who are interested in careers as entertainment analysts or music industry educators.

SPRING CURRICULUM
The research path curriculum consists of five core courses, four to six music industry electives, and between two and four original theses that examines a critical issue in the music industry, combining qualitative and quantitative research under the supervision of one faculty member and approved by a faculty committee.

Candidates for the JD/MS.MIL program must independently apply and gain admission to the School of Law and the College of Arts, Media and Design. Admission to one school does not ensure admission to the other.
