Northeastern’s Department of Communication Studies helps students develop the communication skills and the understanding of the communication process required to thrive in a complex and changing society. Our students master the fundamentals of effective communication, learn core concepts in communication theory and practice, and develop a distinct area of emphasis. Our curriculum is designed to enhance the understanding of human communication in a variety of contexts and to empower students to become informed and engaged citizens.

Whether tackling poverty issues in Myanmar, leading campaigns for health awareness, or turning their blog into a business, Northeastern’s Communication Studies students are engaged with their communities and the world. Communications Studies major Natalie Dickinson, AMD’15, started the popular Tumblr blog “We Are The Kids” for young people interested in breaking into the music industry.
