Camden Catholic High School
“I Am Camden Catholic”
Because college starts here. Because your journey matters. Who is a Camden Catholic graduate? The Camden Catholic High School graduate is a student who has completed a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that will help him or her to succeed in higher education, and in life. The graduate will be goal-oriented, and because of choices made at Camden Catholic High School, the graduate will desire to be a life-long learner who is able to integrate instructional experiences into a realistic decision-making process motivated by authentically Christian values. These internalized personal values should direct the graduate to continually see individual concerns balanced against community concerns, and should always recognize the demands that building a just world places upon individual self-expression. The graduate will take full advantage of life’s opportunities. By developing personal interests in high school, the graduate will become a productive member of the greater community. By encountering people who are both similar and profoundly different from oneself, the graduate will willingly engage the social dimension of life in a global society. The graduate is a moral person with a sense of integrity and has learned to relate with God through prayer, sacrament, service, and personal relationships. The graduate will embrace cultural, economic, and spiritual diversity in life as he or she enters the world as a future leader in society. As a leader, the Camden Catholic graduate will embody convictions tempered by a loving interaction between all individuals with whom he or she comes into contact. The graduate displays a basic curiosity about the world in all its complexity, and is willing to investigate new challenges presented by an active life.

The Retreat Experience
Kristopher Noone ‘16 Pennsauken “Aside from the outstanding academics and extracurricular clubs offered at Camden Catholic, the religious activities are very much a part of student life. From memorable school Masses to praying the Rosary during my lunch period, to religion class and regular interactions with leaders in the Catholic community, the opportunity to practice the faith is always accessible and encouraged.” Classes: British Literature, US History I, Algebra 2, Chemistry, Internship, Personal Finance, The Church and Sacraments, Health Activities: Anti-Bullying Club, Football, Track
The Camden Catholic Retreat program seeks to provide an encounter with Christ through the experience of communal activity, reflection, and prayer. Each retreat is custom created, and lead by Camden Catholic students. Seniors in the Christian Leadership class are taught the principles of Catholic Social Justice and the word of Jesus to create the retreats themselves. Students apply to this senior class knowing the hours and extra responsibility of providing Christian leadership. They are involved in an overnight leadership retreat to learn these principles and how to share their experiences in the faith-filled community.
Themes of the Catholic Tradition to be explored during each retreat year: 9th Grade: The Notion of Covenant 10th Grade: Living the Gospel Message
11th Grade: The Meaning of Discipleship 12th Grade: Creating a Just Society
Retreat attendance is a requirement for all students.
Community Service Throughout their careers at Camden Catholic High School, each student is expected to serve the community with a total of 80 hours of service. High school is an important four years in the life of your teenager. It is a time for forming their moral compass that directs them in developing value-based decisions. It is a time for forming lifelong friendships that will give them a basis for building future relationships. It is a time for forming disciplined work habits, time management skills, social adaptability, and critical thinking skills. When looking at a high school there are many factors to consider:
1. What does the school offer my child academically? With many diverse educational needs, look at how the high school will challenge your student. At Camden Catholic, we take students on their individual academic journey challenging them from where they are as freshmen and take them to levels they never thought they could achieve. All schools will list numbers of accomplishments of their top students. We have shown those same numbers but we also challenge the average student in a competitive college prep program and help them to achieve success to go on to college. Lastly, we provide a
special smaller program for special needs students challenging them in their abilities.
2. How will the school help my child become a better person? In today’s world with many interferences of social media, it becomes difficult to form moral character. At Camden Catholic, we take pride in building upon the student’s moral values. The Link Crew program for freshmen helps them to develop an accepting community as a class, and skill sets to make new friends. The yearly retreat programs provide a platform for self-exploration of strengths and weaknesses and how to build on their strengths to be followers of Jesus. The Anti-Bullying Club provides an outlet for students to demonstrate accepting behaviors. The Camden Catholic graduate takes these skill sets on to college which makes entering an even bigger environment that much easier.
3. What type of setting is best for my child?
smaller allowing for more individualized attention from our caring teachers but big enough to offer a variety of courses, activities, and competitive sports. The size allows a class to be one big inclusive clique — athletes friendly with actors, etc. Your child feels accepted and a sense of belonging.
4. What will make my child be happy? Often a parent will equate happiness in 8th grade with the amount of friends their child has. We think that attending the same high school as their friends will give them happiness and that the adjustment is hard enough in high school without going with a friend. At Camden Catholic, we think happiness is learning how to make friends, how to build moral character, how to discover one’s niche, how to be a conscientious student, and how to be an accepting student. We take pride in teaching our students these skill sets that lead to a well-adjusted student.
There are a variety of high schools in the area with different sizes both large and small. At Camden Catholic, our setting is

However, after four years at Camden Catholic, seeing the outcome of your wellrounded child spiritually, socially, and academically, is a blessing way beyond the four years of sacrifice. Not all students who apply for financial aid will receive aid and the average financial aid award is from $500 to $1000 for the year. There are no guarantees that you will receive financial aid in future years. Your financial position may change and Camden Catholic must weigh the needs of all families each year based on our standards.

All financial aid applications are done on-line through FACTS Tuition Management (https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3KC1C) and are to be completed by December 31, 2014, which includes sending all supporting documents to FACTS Tuition Management. You will use financial information from 2013. Often applications are delayed because the family did not send all the completed supporting documents. This will delay receiving any information about aid. Financial aid awards will be made by the middle of January based on these applications. While applications are accepted until March 15, the financial aid funds are more limited after the December deadline.
Tom Kenney Scholarship – 1 year
Awarded to a student who shows academic promise and a desire to further the mission of the school.
John Oakes Scholarship – 1 year Awarded to a student who is an alumni legacy and shows academic promise. Awarded to a student with financial need and exhibits the qualities of honor, faith, and loyalty.
Various Alumni Memorial Scholarships Every year families of deceased alumni often choose to have donations in lieu of flowers for their loved ones. These donations often lead to one year scholarships for students.
Students travel to Camden Catholic via various school district bussing services, school district rebates, CCHS bus contracts, or parent/student car pools. We make every attempt to make transportation convenient to our families. Often this requires sacrifices on all those involved in providing your child a well-rounded education. Our cafeteria is a monitored study hall from 7:30 a.m. until the start of school and from the end of school until 6 p.m. Camden Catholic does not charge for this service as we try to make every effort to help you in your journey through high school. For a list of school districts that provide transportation or aid (state reimbursement of $884), please go to our website under “Admissions” and “Transportation.”

In 1887, the first parochial school in Camden, NJ, was formed by the Sisters of Mercy and Holy Cross Brothers of Notre Dame. The Holy Cross Brothers soon were recalled to South Bend, Indiana, and the Sisters of Mercy continued to form what became a fouryear high school — Camden Catholic. In April 1960, the worst fire in the history of the Camden Diocese left Camden Catholic looking for a new location. The current site on Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, was chosen and the doors of the new school opened in 1962. The religious principles of the Sisters of Mercy and their founder, Mother Mary McAuley, still permeate the culture of Camden Catholic. Today Camden Catholic is an example of a school which maintains ties to the past, celebrates the present, and prepares for the future. This is our tradition. We are proud of our “tradition of excellence” and our strong commitment to guarantee its continuation. “We should be as the compass that goes round its circle without stirring from its center — our center is God, from whom all our actions should spring as from their source.” — Mother Mary McAuley
