MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES

FRANK HOOGEBOOM NETHERLANDS For as long as I can remember I have been interested in photography. My father was an enthusiast amateur photographer and I think he must have sent some of his enthusiasm over to me. I started taking pictured when I got interested in aviation. I took pictures of all kinds of airplanes and soon the moment came, when I realized that I liked taking pictures more than I liked looking at aircraft. I then started to focus on other subjects as well but soon learned that if you want to become better, it helps if you focus on one or two subjects. I have developed a distinct preference for landscape photography and this really took off when I joined a photographic course on the Lofoten Islands in

Northern Norway, capturing the northern lights. This trip opened up a world of posibilities for me and I soon specialized myself in fine art landscape photography. This still is what I do most. Since I consider buildings and infrastructural objects as “manufactured landscapes”, this soon got my attention as well. I really can enjoy a beautifully designed building or bridge. These two areas of expertise keep me rather busy, especially since I also have a full-time job as an IT-consultant. The contrast between both occupations, however, allows me to take distance when needed and focus on what is really important.

Although I am always trying to be creative and work on my own personal signature, I do have heros in photography. I admire internationally well known photographers like Michael Kenna, Bruce Percy, Joseph Hoflehner and Michael Levin. Closer to home, I have had the privilege to personally learn from excellent Dutch photographers like Arthur van Riet, Wilco Dragt, Theo Bosboom and Bas Meelker. They have shown me the way and still follow my footsteps along this journey.

SOME PERSONAL INFO I was born in 1970 nearby Amersfoort in The Netherlands and I still live in this area together with my wife. I sincerely hope that my images will inspire you. Should anyone want to get in touch with me, please do not hesitate to contact me.
