Twelve-year-old Gaelan Edwards holds his baby brother, Kaynan, as he sits beside his proud mother, Danielle. Gaelan delivered Kaynan on this bed at about 2:15 a.m. this past Saturday when Danielle woke suddenly in advanced labour.

Twelve-year-old Gaelan Edwards delivered his baby brother all by himself this past weekend.

Danielle Edwards woke up with labour pains at about 2:15 a.m. at her home in Quinsam Heights Mobile Home Park in Campbell River on Sat. Aug. 20. She rolled over onto her back and realized the baby was crowning, so she called for her eldest son, Gaelan, to come and help her.

Gaelan proceeded to deliver the baby based on knowledge gained from watching informational television shows.

“Just do it like on the doctor shows,” said Gaelan when asked what was going on his mind in the 15 to 30 minutes it took to deliver his baby brother Kaynan.

“You wiggle the baby out, put the baby down, you clamp the cord, you cut the cord, you bring the blanket, and you wrap the baby up and give the baby to mom,” said Gaelan matter-of-factly.

Kaynan is Danielle’s fifth child and she was two days overdue when she went into labour.

Although she has a good relationship with the baby’s father, Ken Strong – who now shares three children with Danielle, and moved to Campbell River when Danielle did about two months ago to be close by – they are not romantically involved and live separately. She was home alone with her four children when she woke up with labour pains.

Homalco debut new Bears of Bute orientation centre T

he Orford River delta was quiet on Saturday except for the breezes sending waves through the long grasses lining the estuary.

In a few weeks, however, the grasses will be disturbed by the heavy footfall of 400 kg grizzly bears and that’s when the reason for a celebration held Saturday will become evident.

The Homalco First Nation transported 105 guests to commemorate the latest addition to the Homalco Wildlife Tours facility at Orford Bay, an orientation centre that will introduce visitors to the Homalco First Nation’s story from the pre-colonial period to the present.

“I just want to thank you for sharing and celebrating this special day for ourselves,” Chief Richard Harry told the visitors.

The Homalco Band’s story is one of a proud and powerful aboriginal nation suffering at the hands of European colonists through the loss of traditional territory.

They then endured relocation to a permanent site, the loss of their children to residential schools and then, finally, in the 1970s, the loss of their livelihood through a federal fisheries reorganization plan that left band members without commercial fishing licences.

After that, band members dispersed, many ending up in the downtown east side of Vancouver. To reconnect their community,

“I wasn’t even thinking telephone, I’m thinking, ‘I’m having a baby,’” said Danielle.

“I couldn’t have done it without him,” she added. “What if I pushed the baby out and my blankets had been bunched? What if I broke his neck, you know, like what if ?”

Gaelan knew how to support the baby’s head and neck properly during delivery from watching Discovery Channel and TLC. After Kaynan was born, Gaelan even found a bag clamp to use on the umbilical cord, then cut it and helped remove the placenta.

When all immediate duties were complete Gaelan called Danielle’s friend who took her and her new baby to the hospital.

“It was phenomenal,” said Danielle as she glowed with pride at her eldest son’s achievement.

Strong is proud as well, adding he doesn’t know if he could have done what Gaelan did.

“I would have probably hit the floor or something,” Strong said. “I’m very proud of him. He’s my hero and I told him that.”

Although he had no plans to become a doctor before his heroic act, Gaelan said he is now considering the profession.

“After it happened I was like ‘if I can do this at 12 I think I can do it when I’m 21,’” he explained.

Our Water Fixing the broken windows

Runaway driver caught Police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on McPhederan Rd. on Aug. 20. The driver fled the scene but the front licence plate was stuck in the large rock that the vehicle collided with.

Responding officers followed a trail of parts and fluids to the registered address of the vehicle. The owner was charged with failing to remain at an accident scene.

This area is the community drinking watershed and its surrounding access roads. Behind the beautiful trees and the pristine John Hart Lake are a series of dumping grounds for people who lack the moral fibre to visit the landfill or yard waste drop off centre.

These illegal dumping sites lower the intrinsic value of our precious drinking watershed, and threaten sensitive areas by damaging the environment and introducing invasive plant species. With this in mind the City of Campbell River is undertaking a thorough watershed clean-up during the month of August. So far the City has removed: • 4 abandoned cars • 1 abandoned van • 240 metric tonnes of garbage, yard waste, and building materials Even as waste is hauled from these sites, people arrive to dump more garbage, but turn around when they meet city crews. We’re fixing our broken window, and everyone can do their part in maintaining the value of our beautiful watershed by disposing of their waste responsibly.

Thank you to the Comox-Strathcona Waste Management Service, the Ministry of Forests, and local businesses for their help and support in this clean-up effort.

If you care about our drinking watershed, and you would like to get involved, the City of Campbell River is hosting a public clean-up event on Saturday, August 27th.

A B.C. man who survived a grizzly bear attack last month is recovering in Campbell River.

John Johnson, 51, is receiving physiotherapy at a local rehabilitation clinic for the serious injuries he suffered at the hands of a female grizzly.

Johnson, who is from the B.C. central coast, was transferred from Victoria General, where he spent more

than a month receiving treatment, to Campbell River for the second phase of his recovery process last week.

“North of the Island there’s not much in the way of physio,” said Johnson, who’s staying at a hotel. “(Campbell River is) one of the better places for it.”

Johnson is in the early stages of physiotherapy and his one visit so far was to determine the extent of his injuries.

Johnson suf fered serious head injuries –

including a torn scalp – a broken hand, a hip injury and other lacerations after being mauled by a grizzly bear July 4.

The forestry worker was picking berries in the remote community of Oweekeeno, near Bella Bella, when a grizzly, who was with her cubs, lunged at him, knocking him down to the ground.

“All I remember is it felt like a truck hit me,” Johnson said.

“And before I could get to my feet, the bear

was on top of me. It did damage to my feet, hip and head.”

Johnson has no memory of what happened next but was later told that after the attack he remarkably walked nearly one kilometre down a gravel road to the nearest house where he got help.

“I have no clue how I did it,” said Johnson, who was suffering from serious blood loss. “I don’t remember the walk. For the first 10 days (after the attack) I had no clue where I

was.”

While in hospital, Johnson had surgery to insert a steel plate into his broken hand.

The terrifying ordeal has left Johnson unable to walk without pain and he experiences numbness in his hand and his hip.

He said physiotherapy should help bring the feeling back but he’s not sure how long the process may take.

“I just don’t know,” Johnson said. “All I can do is take it one step at a time.”

“The reduction in the number of sheriffs is due primarily to the hiring freeze that has been in place for the past two years within gover nment,” said Purdy.

“We have lost a number of members to other higher paying

law enforcement agencies like the police and sheriffs in Alberta, who earn $15,000 a year more.”

Over the last few years the number of sheriffs in B.C. has gone from 525 to about 385 right now.

“The cuts caused a number of trials to

be adjourned or stood down, including a home invasion trial and a murder trial, because judges felt their courts were unsafe without the presence of a deputy sheriff to provide security,” said Walker.

“This is a welcome step forward, but the government needs to continue to replace the more than 100 sheriffs that have left to higher paying law enforcement jobs,” he added.

Delaying your CPP pension beyond age 65 makes sense when: o You health is good. o Your life expectancy is above average. o You have a reasonable income and/or intend to continue working after 65.

• The work cessation rule has been eliminated. Before the changes you had to be at least 60 years of age and not working for at least two months in order to collect CPP. Now, starting at age 60, you can continue working and still receive CPP bene¿ts. Under the old rules, once you began collecting CPP you never again had to contribute to the plan.

Now, however, if you are under 65 and working while receiving a CPP pension, you (and your employer) will have to continue making CPP contributions (that will increase your CPP bene¿ts beginning in 2013). If you are 65 - 70 and work while receiving CPP bene¿ts, you have the choice of continuing to make CPP contributions

(that will increase your CPP bene¿ts beginning in 2013) or not.

• The earnings drop-out provision, which allows you to exclude a portion of your pensionable earnings that can reduce your CPP bene¿t, has been changed. Previously, if you retired at 65, you could ‘drop-out’ seven of your lowest earning years from age 18 to 65 when you were eligible to contribute to CPP. Under the revised rules, that ‘drop-out’ period increases to 7.5 years in 2012 and 8 years in 2014.

Layton – A class act Canadians were shocked to learn Monday morning of the passing of Jack Layton, federal leader of the opposition and longtime NDP leader, at the age of 61. He was a genuine person whose likeability was a key factor great effect in taking the NDP from 13 seats, when he became leader in 2003, to 103 in the May 2 election.

Layton was a man of conviction, but he was also practical. He took the NDP away from some of its

more extreme positions towards a party that was more middle of the road, and was able to do so in such a way as to avoid internal splits that could have caused many divisions.

His recent runaway success in Quebec is proof of his ability. Quebeckers were clearly tired of the Bloc Quebecois, which for 20 years has harped on Quebec’s problems without presenting workable solutions. Layton, more than any other leader, sensed the void that was being created and made a direct appeal to Quebeckers. It was his ability to convince Quebeckers that the NDP would represent their province well that led the party to win so many seats in the recent election.

It is not insignificant that Layton rose from municipal politics to become NDP leader. He was a longtime member of Toronto city council.

The most successful municipal politicians are bridgebuilders. They learn to work with people of differing political philosophies, because they know that they are all there for the greater good of the community.

Layton brought that kind of pragmatic approach to the national stage, and even when he disagreed heartily with his opponents, he never did so in a nasty, personal manner. He preferred to use his sense of humour.

He was a class act.

Good point: Arsenic Re: Mine fails to quash concerns, by Kristen Douglas, August 17 I wish to call your attention to an error in the above article. Paragraph 7 states, “A study by Dr. William Cullen and the Canadian Water Network in 2008/2009 found sediment samples taken from nearby Long Lake which feeds into the Quinsam River had sulfate levels 30 times higher than provincial guidelines.” The study of which Douglas writes found arsenic concentrations, not sulfates, exceeding provincial guidelines by 30 times. To date, the Canadian Water Network (CWN) has released four reports which can all be found at the Greenways Land Trust website. (see below) The fourth report by Dr. X Chris Le of the University of Alberta who is presently chairperson of the CWN, contains and excellent summary of the first three reports written in language understandable to the layperson and includes pictures.

The CWN team is continuing their research. The first research samples were taken of sediment found close to the surface of the lake bottom. This gave good information on the density of the arsenic but not on the total volume. Recently the team has employed divers and samples have been taken penetrating much deeper into the lake bottom. This will throw additional light on both the volume of arsenic (how much there is of it) and how long it has been there. In addition the team is continuing research on the effects the sediment is having on creatures found at the bottom of the lake by Continued on A9

The province’s power export plan not dead yet

He would never quite admit it, but former premier Gordon Campbell’s push for self-sufficiency in clean electricity has always looked to me like a long-term strategy to export hydroelectric power.

It still looks that way. B.C.’s spring and summer runoff match perfectly with peak air-conditioner season in California. But the recent review of BC Hydro operations discusses how the prospects for exports have changed since Campbell’s 2007 energy plan.

The government instructed BC Hydro to wean itself off power imports by 2016, even in drought years, and obtain new capacity mostly from outside sources with net zero

greenhouse gas emissions. Nuclear plants were formally ruled out.

The review of BC Hydro by three top bureaucrats acknowledges that government directions have “placed pressure on BC Hydro to increase their energy supply through increased long-term agreements with independent power producers (IPPs).”

Cue the doomsayers. Independent power production is enemy number one for BC Hydro unions. Their champion, NDP energy critic John Horgan, was immediately out with a grossly distorted version of the report. He cherry-picked statistics to compare the $124-per-megawatt hour average cost for delivering indepen-

dent power with the lowest end of the spot market for electricity, which currently swings wildly from around $4 to more than $50.

In fact the report puts the average price paid for IPP power at $63.85.

Compare that with the projected cost of $87 to $95 for power from Site C, the proposed third dam on the Peace River that will be BC Hydo owned and operated.

The $124 figure includes other costs, notably extending the electricity grid to connect IPPs. Horgan claims to favour wind or run-of-river for remote areas with no other clean energy option, but apparently is against hooking them up to the grid.

(Further evidence that current NDP

energy policy is nonsense: Horgan opposes Site C based on an assumption of little or no growth in mines, mills or other industries such as liquefied natural gas, which an NDP government would be a good bet to deliver. He’s against smart meters for the same reason he’s against the HST – because it looks like a popular pose right now.)

When it comes to electricity exports, the important point is not what power sells for today, but what it will be worth a decade from now.

And that depends on whether clean energy can command a premium price, and whether coal and other fossil fuel sources have a carbon price Continued on A9

Cross-Boundary Transfers

Students with approved cross-boundary requests are to attend their approved school, starting the ¿rst week that school is back in session. Those who have requested a transfer, but have not yet been approved, or are on a wait list, are to attend their present school until they receive information on their request (the latest date of noti¿cation is September 9). Late requests may be submitted, in writing with the proper form, but students will be added to the wait list and are to attend their present school until noti¿ed.

Returning Late from Vacation?

Students already registered, but who will be returning late from summer vacation must advise their school, in writing, by September 2 to ensure that they are included in the school’s enrolment count. Students who are not in attendance the ¿rst week of school will be withdrawn unless there has been contact with the school.

Transit Bus Service

BC Transit passes will be available for purchase through the secondary schools starting in September. More information will be available through the schools during the ¿rst week of school.

What if the School Bus Doesn’t Arrive?

Due to unforseen circumstances, a school bus may be late.

Parents should have an alternate plan for their children in the event a bus comes late or does not arrive. If, after 20 minutes, the school bus has not arrived, students should return home and phone their school or the Transportation Department at (250) 287-8808 for further assistance.

Although we do our best to prevent problems, sometimes circumstances arise that are beyond our control, such as poor road conditions in the winter months. Again, parents are encouraged to have alternate arrangements in place.

Pick-Up Times

Students should be at their bus stop ¿ve minutes before the scheduled pick-up, however, due to unforseen circumstances, the bus could be up to 10 minutes late.

Cancer survivor celebrates milestone

Campbell River’s Loree Smith wanted to celebrate a remarkable milestone in a big way.

So she put on her walking shoes and trekked 60 kilometres around the Vancouver area.

“It was a way to celebrate 20 years of being cancer free,” said Smith, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 37, with no family history of the disease.

To mark the happy occasion she participated in the annual Weekend to End Women’s Cancers benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.

The walk, which took place over two days Aug. 13-14, began at the University of British Columbia and ended there each day after taking participants through several Vancouver neighbourhoods.

Smith describes the long journey as “exhilarating, exhausting and emotional.”

“The challenging part for me came when I had 1.8 kilometres to go,” Smith said. “I developed tendinitis in my ankle and I had to put ice on it so I could finish.”

Smith also got to take

part in an emotional closing ceremonies where she, along with other cancer survivors, were honoured onstage.

“Just to see all the people who had defied the odds, it was pretty emotional,” Smith said.

Being around others who understand firsthand what it’s like to go through cancer was

also special for Smith who never believed she would have to go through that kind of struggle.

“I was pretty shocked as I felt I was too young to have it at the time,” Smith said. “I had just met my future husband when I discovered I had cancer but he stuck with me so he’s a keeper for sure as far as I’m concerned.”

“Things have come a long way in the 20 years since I was treated and diagnosed with cancer,” Smith said. “I felt very isolated when I had it but people’s minds are more receptive and open today than 20 years ago.”

Since the Weekend started eight years ago, there has also been an increase in funding made available for research into women’s cancers. Before the event, women’s cancer research had received $200,000 from the BC Cancer Foundation but since then, $20 million has gone towards the cause, said the head of the BC Cancer Foundation.

“What has occurred since it started is phenomenal,” said Douglas Nelson, President and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation.

“Researchers in B.C. have discovered new gene mutations that will aid in diagnosis and treatment of cancers; they have shown that ovarian cancer is actually five distinct diseases (and) for the first time in history, all three billion letters in the DNA sequence of a breast cancer tumour were decoded.

Cops for Cancer rider has INCOME TAX several fundraisers planned COURSE

Local Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock rider Shawn Hall is gearing up for a set of new fundraisers this month.

Hall, a firefighter and auxiliary with the Campbell River RCMP, is raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society through his participation in the 14-day event that will take him from one end of the Island to the other.

Hall lost his mother to cancer as a teenager and since then the fight to end cancer has been close to his heart.

“I’ve always wanted to do something for a worth cause, especially cancer,” Hall said. “It’s something I don’t wish on any kid.

I saw the tour as an opportunity to help.”

Hall has already visited Camp Goodtimes, a camp in Maple Ridge for teens and kids bat-

tling cancer and their families which is a recipient of dollars raised from the tour.

On Aug. 28 Hall will host a Kids Carnival at White Spot.

Activities include a dunk tank, Bounce-ARama, face painting, tours of a fire truck and police car. For $5 kids get a pirate pack and five tickets for the events.

Hall will also hold a Beer and Burger night at the Riptide Bar and Grill Aug. 31 from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are available in advance at the Riptide or at the door.

Lots of prizes will be given away throughout the evening.

The Bottle Depot on 16th Avenue and Willow Street is still taking donations, account name is Tour de Rock Shawn Hall and Outdoor Addictions is donating $5 for every bike sale or tune up to the Tour de Rock.

The tuition cost covers the complete course, including textbooks, all materials, reference guides and registration.

Driver Ted Dimitrov also had a great win

on the night; managing to outlast seven other cars to win the last boat race of the season.

The Roadrunners were up in car count on Saturday; five cars qualified with the best time going to Tyrome Pollock who set a time of 20.575.

Nick Leavitt won the Dash, but was unable to catch Pollock in the

eight-lap heat race, giving Pollock his first win at Saratoga Speedway.

Pollock started second in the main event and used his advantage to take an early lead and he never looked back from there, easily wining the 20-lap feature. Derrik Senft finished second, with third going to Andrea Cannon.

The Crash to Pass

cars made their third to last appearance of the season on Saturday.

Travis Stevenson set fast time in qualifying with a time of 19.091.

Dan Kemp won his first dash of the season. Stevenson dominated the field to take the win in the 10-lap heat.

Jeff May dominated the main event, but on

the last lap, Gregg Sagmoen spun him out on the backstretch and took the lead and held it from there.

Stevenson would finish second, with third going to May. Kev i n L aw re nu k once again set fast time in qualifying in the Hornet division, setting a time of 18.578.

Brianne Fenn won the C dash and heat, Dim-

itrov won the B dash, and Daryn Cahill won the A dash. Kyle Fallowfield won the B heat in a borrowed race car; and Jennifer Lawrenuk held off the field to take the win in the A heat.

Twenty-two cars took the green flag for their 30-lap feature. Dimitrov held the early lead but lost it on lap 12 to Daryn Cahill. He

and his brother Daryl battled hard the rest of the way but Daryn managed to hold his brother off to take the win. Daryn ended up finishing second, with third going to Lawrenuk.

Bradley Stephen Kane

November 9, 1964 – August 3, 2011 It is with such sadness that we write that our dear dad passed suddenly and unexpectedly from renal failure due to diabetes.

Dad was predeceased by his treasured gran (Marqurite Simmons) brother P. Lee Kane, Nana, Grandad, great grandparents, aunts and uncles. Dad is survived by our mum (H. Nicole), daughters: Kristin, Tianna, son: Reed, sister: Tammy (James Sawatsky), Nieces: Kayleigh and Alex Kane, Nephews: Xander and Oliver Sawatsky, chosen brother and best bud, Richard Heyer, Uncle Mick (Kane) Auntie Patricia and Uncle David (Prad), numerous cousins here and in Alberta, parents: Bruce and Margaret.

He grew up in the Valley, finishing school at G.P. Vanier. He had various jobs locally including, mechanic, logger, commercial fisherman and around the province as a road technician before finding his joy in the oil industry as a pressure tester (he so loved it). He had a passion for ball all his life. Even playing ball with his bud on leagues in the Valley. Dad was one awesome catcher and fantastic to watch. He also loved golf and sport fishing, camping with the kids and a good book.

He was a kind and soft spoken man and it took some doing to get him riled. He loved laughing with his family and friends over a few beers. He looked forward to his hunting trips with Richard – they had the best of times! With Richard looking after him always – thanks for being the best friend we could wish for dad, Uncle Richie!

Please join us in remembering dad at 2560 Macaulay Road on August 27, 2011 from 12:00 to 3:00.

Verna passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at Evergreen Seniors Home in Campbell River. She has gone to rejoin Len Polson, her husband of 54 years. They are dancing together again.

Verna is predeceased by Len (2001), granddaughter Amanda Horton (2006), and niece Daryl Conway Greybe (1995).

Verna is survived by daughters Nickie (David Smith) and Muriel (David Horton); granddaughters Fiona Smith, Julie (Ryan Chenard) and Stacey Horton; sister Wyn Conway and nephew Murray Conway.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Baerg and all the staff at Evergreen Seniors Home for their compassion, kindness and care. We also thank the staff at the Campbell River Hospital for their care during her recent stays.

Aug 23, 1938 - Aug. 13, 2011 Sadly we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Larry Widen on August 13th. He is survived by Sandy, his wife of 49 years, children Kirsten of Surrey and Drew (Sherry) of Abbotsford, grandchildren Keiffer and Danielle of Abbotsford and Linnea of Surrey, sisters Audrey Rennie of Sidney and Arlene Worsfold of Kelowna and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Sonny and sisters Annette Bowen and Alice Martin.

Larry was a wonderful, bright, articulate, hard-working and caring leader who was active in the labour movement and the NDP. He was also a member of the Kinsmen and K-40. He worked at Elk Falls mill in Campbell River for many years before joining the Vancouver office of the CLC in 1974. He will be dearly missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 28th at the Willow Point Hall, 2165 South Island Highway, Campbell River, BC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend our thanks to all those who assisted at the scene by administering CPR, calling 911 and offering comfort.

The effort is nondenominational and several other churches, corporate sponsors, and volunteers from the general public will be joining in the big food drive, which is designed to become an annual event.

Women for Women Trail Mix Challenge and Kids Run is back A fundraiser to help Campbell River’s single mothers go back to school takes place next month.

The eighth annual Women for Women Trail Mix Challenge and Kids Run, which has raised over $13,000 for women to further their education, is Sat., Sept. 10 this year at Carihi.

Funds raised are distributed to single mothers registered at North Island College through bursaries.

The event was started

by Shelagh Germyn who knew first-hand the challenge of trying to get an education while raising children.

“When money is scarce, while working two to three jobs to pay rent, being a single mother is difficult,” Ger myn says. “The community is helping and providing you with the opportunity to apply for the Women for Women bursaries.”

The five and ten

kilometre challenges take participants from Carihi to nearby trails.

Kids are also welcome to attend and take part in the kids run or walk.

“We the committee, community, friends and acquaintances would like you to come out and participate,” Germyn says.

There will also be a hot dog sale at Save On Foods with proceeds to go towards the bursaries, from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 27.

united to create the first annual Quadra Island Fall Fair.

The Fall Fair is happening Sept. 4, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on the grounds of the Quadra Community Centre.

The Quadra Island Fall Fair has everything a fair-goer could desire. Be entertained by local musicians, enjoy the interactive family theatre stage, and check out the roving entertainers as you meander the grounds.

There will be dog obedience and dog agility demonstrations, a petting farm, and a pet parade as well as an exhibit area with poultry and small critters.

Watch the sheep-toslipper demonstration, or check out the many other demonstrations including: blacksmithing, apple pressing, bikes in the jump park, skateboarding, grain g r i n d i n g , p o t t e r y, honey bees, spinning and weaving.

Stop by the Informative Talks Tent to hear local experts speak on subjects relevant to self sufficiency. Scheduled topics include: per maculture, seed saving, west coast maple syrup, managing your fall harvest and compost tea.

Various local groups will be selling tasty food, both hot and cold.

The Fall Fair organizers are asking every-

one to bring your own water bottle, as there will be a refill area.

Games planned for the Fair include: chicken poo bingo, a cake walk, and the gumboot toss.

At the heart of all Fall Fairs are the exhibits. The Quadra Island Fall Fair has an amazingly diverse selection of categories, including applied arts, hobby crafts, flowers, vegetables, fruit, poultry, youth, needle arts, photography, canning and preserving, upcycled, and more. The Human Powered Invention category should be interesting, as well as the various People’s Choice exhibits, which are judged by all fair attendees.

It has been an amazing journey bringing the fair to fruition, one which includes over 100 volunteers and counting.

Fair organizers, volunteers and islanders alike welcome you to Quadra Island to the First Annual Fall Fair.

“The seed of an idea for a grand fall fair began with a few individuals and a vision,” said organizer Sioux Hartle. “Early germination led to a major volunteer collaboration, which bolted in April, self-seeded in May, and has grown steadily in planning and preparation since.”
