swim to survive Ages 7-11 Fun & Education 1-Day Water Survival Workshop This new swim program has been introduced to teach children necessary self-rescue skills in and around water. This program is offered at an affordable rate and is available to children aged 7-11 years old. Enjoy your pro-d day with us. Don’t forget to bring a lunch, lots of towels and a change of clothes you can swim in (including shoes).

The facts may surprise you: • •

Most drownings occur only 3 to 15 metres away from shore or a point of safety - learn to swim and reduce the risk. Two-thirds of drowning victims had no intention of entering the water and died as result of unplanned immersion. They did not have the necessary self-rescue skills to survive the incident.

Learn essential self-rescue skills: •

• •

Learn how to get oriented after an unexpected entry. During a fall into water, learn to get your head above the water and avoid breathing it in. Learn how to support yourself at the surface. Swim to safety – learning to swim a standard distance of 50 metres could prevent a water-related incident and save your life.

Swimming is an important life skill: Acquiring a basic swimming ability is a fundamental requirement in the attempt to eliminate drowning. • Swimming is among the top recreation choices for Canadians. Leaning to swim can help you enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle that includes fitness and recreation. Date: Friday, October 21, 2011 Time: 10-3pm Cost: $25 •
