In the past month I have spoken with anglers from Scotland, the U.K. and a few from the Vancouver area. They all ¿sh with their own hand tied Àies, in which there seems to be a difference in size and styles. The local ¿shing tackle shops in both Courtenay and Campbell River can recommend what is working for each ¿shing application, fresh or saltwater. Spider Lake can produce some very nice trout as experienced by Roy Dash, who caught and released a 26 inch trout. Meanwhile Comox Lake is producing ¿sh trolling plugs by the ski club and Wolf Lake can be productive at times with some large ¿sh being caught. Maple is a good place for small trout, this lake gets hit hard as it is close to Courtenay and can be busy on weekends. GERHARD KRAUSE SOUTH SURREY AT In the Campbell River area SALMON POINT Brewster Lake has been very productive for trout ¿shing if you have a boat or belly boat, also at certain times in the morning a nice rise of ¿sh can be seen right off the shore.

In the last week of September we saw a decline in ¿shing on the Campbell, Oyster, and Quinsam Rivers due to the windy and rainy weather. I found myself ¿shing alongside some locals who were spin casting for Coho. A gentleman from Surrey managed to hook into a nice ¿sh between the bridges on the Campbell.

Beach ¿shing for hatchery clipped Coho has been very good for spin casters at Salmon Point. Anglers are casting out pink or red spoons, while Ày anglers are using pink, blue or green Àies that are weighted.

knee joint. Another common complaint is joint locking, or the inability to completely straighten the joint. This is due to a piece of the torn cartilage physically stopping the joint from moving properly. X-rays and MRIs are the two tests commonly used in patients who have meniscus tears. An x-ray can be used to determine if there is evidence of degenerative or arthritic changes to the knee joint. The MRI is helpful at actually visualizing the meniscus. However, simply ‘seeing’ a torn meniscus on MRI does not mean a specific treatment is needed. Treatment of a meniscus tear depends on several factors including the type of tear, the activity level of the person with the injury, and the response to simple treatment measures. Often times, if the tear is small the knee will get better with physiotherapy. Exercises to stretch and strengthen the knee are enough to bring it back to normal function. When surgical treatment of a meniscus tear is required, the usual treatment is to trim the torn portion of meniscus, a procedure called a meniscectomy. If you think that you may have a torn meniscus talk to your doctor or a physiotherapist about the proper course of treatment to get your knee back to full health.
