CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY Find your Calling ...

Campbellsville University was founded in 1906 by the Russell Creek Baptist Association as Russell Creek Academy in Campbellsville, Ky. In 1924 the institution became known as Campbellsville Junior College. It made the transition to a four-year college in 1960 and reached university status in 1996, changing the name once again to become Campbellsville University. Now in her 108th year of service, Campbellsville continues to see unprecedented growth in terms of enrollment, construction of new facilities, renovation of existing facilities and producing successful graduates. Nestled between the Cumberland Plateau and the Appalachian Mountains, Taylor County and Campbellsville, Ky., serve as home to Campbellsville University. Taylor County, population 25,000, is located in the geographical center of Kentucky, only 85-90 miles away from Bowling Green, Lexington and Louisville. The university family gives back to the community through service and time but also provides a more than $101 million economic impact to the area. CU is ranked 69th on the U.S. News & World Report’s list of top regional universities in the South. It is also listed among America’s Best Christian Colleges, rated as a Military Friendly School and has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. With a student body comprising more than 3,600 students from 97 Kentucky counties, 30 U.S. states and 37 foreign countries, Campbellsville University has a diverse cultural mix on her campus. The university is also noted for a strong faculty with over 70 percent of its professors holding a Ph.D. or the highest degree in their field of study and a low student/faculty ratio of 13 to 1. Campbellsville offers certificates of study along with 63 undergraduate options, as well as 17 master’s degrees, five postgraduate areas and eight pre-professional areas. The 101-acre university campus features a total of 45 buildings. In the past 18 years there have been more than 26 major renovations or new construction projects. The university also features satellite centers in Louisville and Somerset as well as developing a strong online presence. CU holds dual athletic membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) and is a member of the MidSouth Conference. In addition to these organizations, CU sports teams also compete in the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association, United States Bowling Congress and National Cheer Association. With more than 700 student-athletes, CU fields 26 teams in 16 sports, and Campbellsville’s studentathletes and coaches are consistently being recognized for their success in the MSC and on the national level. 2

MORE THAN A GAME

COACHES TO COSTA RICA

Thirty-two Campbellsville University coaches, athletic staff, student-athletes and supporters spent a week in Costa Rica, July 18-24, on CU’s first athletic department-wide mission trip. Football coaches Perry Thomas, Matt Atwood and Hunter Cantwell were among those on the trip. The seven-day mission included sports clinics, visiting orphanages and women’s shelters and feeding the homeless.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY Throughout the year, Campbellsville University Athletics looks to give back to the Campbellsville and Taylor County community through various activities. Starting in 2013, CU joined the annual cleanup of Green River Lake in September. CU also started its annual Tiger Fall Festival the last week of October.

CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER FIVE STAR INSTITUTION CU is an NAIA Five Star Champion of Character Institution and instills the core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership in its daily activities. CU encourages its community to Live 5 through the NAIA Champions of Character platform by highlighting each of the core values every three weeks from September to May throughout the athletic department and campus. FOOTBALL FACILITIES Finley Stadium & Citizens Bank Field

Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field are home to Fighting Tiger Football. Built in 1987, the field has been home for the Tigers since the program’s rebirth. In 2006, the stadium was named in honor of former head coach Ron Finley and the stadium and field were renovated in 2007. The grass surface was removed in 2010 as synthetic turf and lights were added. The field was named for Citizens Bank & Trust Company in 2012 after the bank provided the lead gift in the “More Than A Game” fundraising campaign for lights and turf. The Greg Vaughn Pavilion (right) is located in the southwest corner of the stadium. Dedicated in 2011, the pavilion, originally know as the Dave Fryrear 12th Man Club Pavilion, serves as host to hundreds of Fighting Tiger football recruits each season. It also houses the train horn, which has sounded after each Tiger touchdown through the years.

He has also led renovations to the football and baseball stadiums and is working on plans for further facility upgrades. Under Hollingsworth’s watch, 14 national championships have been won individually or as a team. His program’s success has not gone unnoticed. In 2011, Hollingsworth was named the Athletic Director of the Year for the NAIA Southeast Region by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA). He has twice been named the MSC Athletic Director of the Year in 2004 and 2010. For more than a decade, Campbellsville has built a solid reputation under Hollingsworth for a strong academic showing with more than 100 All-Academic Mid-South Conference selections in 2013-14 and various teams and student-athletes receiving national academic recognition. CU student-athletes are also an example of character, as several have received the MSC Champion of Character award in recent years for their respective sports. Also, the 2010 Tiger football team, 2009-10 Lady Tiger basketball team and 201314 men’s and women’s swimming teams were named NAIA Champion of Character teams. 2013 REVIEW

Joe Blackstone (47) and Blake Young (10) lead the Fighitng Tigers onto Citizens Bank Field for one of their final home games of the 2013 season.

or the third time in the last five seasons, Campbellsville University Fighting Tiger football was only one win away from at least a share of its first Mid-South Conference championship since 1997. Despite being 4-6 on the season, CU shined early on against MSC West Division opponents. The season began in an unusual fashion. Sophomore kick returner Jarrod Harrington returned the opening kickoff of the season 98 yards for a touchdown at Lindsey Wilson College. The Fighting Tigers took a 17-10 lead into halftime and had just recovered a fumble early in the third quarter when a storm hit Columbia, Ky. Rain flooded the turf field and lightning delayed the game for three hours before play resumed around 12:20 a.m. CDT. CU was unable to hold off a refreshed Lindsey Wilson team in a 24-17 loss. The game ended six hours after it began. It was the first of five losses during the season to teams which ended the year ranked in the NAIA Top 25. Campbellsville suffered another bump in the road in week two, traveling to NCAA Division I opponent Murray State University on Sept. 7 for an 83-14 loss. However, a week off helped the Tigers get back to the basics and CU opened its MSC West schedule with a 26-0 shutout at Bethel University on Sept. 21. The following week, CU unveiled its new gray uniforms in its home opener and put on a show for its fans, running past Belhaven University, 54-22. The Fighting Tigers outscored the Blazers 47-7 after the first quarter to move to 2-0 in the MSC West and even on the year, 2-2. Campbellsville stretched its win streak to three games with a 32

23-6 Homecoming victory over Kentucky Christian University. CU hoped to make it four wins row Oct. 12 as it traveled to No. 12 Georgetown for its only road trip of the month. The maroon and gray Tigers converted two fourth downs late in the game for a chance at the win, but a holding penalty negated CU’s go-ahead touchdown and Georgetown held on for a narrow, 19-14, win. Campbellsville bounced back at home the following week with another win in gray, beating Cumberland University, 24-19, to remain in first place in the MSC West. However, November was not kind to the Fighting Tigers, falling to No. 2 and eventual national runner-up University of the Cumberlands, 70-17, at home. The following week, CU dropped its first MSC West game, 52-17, to conference champion Faulkner University, ranked ninth. CU closed the season at home with a chance to beat first-year program Reinhardt University and claim a share of the MSC title. CU put on its best offensive show of the season, racking up 532 yards, but Reinhardt also had a record-breaking day and used a strong third quarter performance to pull away with a 66-48 win and share of the MSC West. Following the season, Dekwain Tarrance, Blake Young and Alex Zimmerman were recognized as All-Mid-South Conference First Team selections and All-NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) First Team Selections. Trevon Chatman, Davian Evans-Dufrene, Jarrod Harrington, Nick Reed and Tyree Wilson were All-MSC Second Team selections. Harrington, Tarrance and Young were later named to Kentucky’s All-Commonwealth Team in the summer of 2014.
