Open to all girls, ages 5-17. You don’t have to be a Girl Scout to register! Our camps offer a unique life experience designed to help girls discover and develop themselves. Within a safe and supportive environment, girls participate in activities that develop skills, build self-esteem, and provide a sense of accomplishment. The programs are well-rounded and are appropriate to the age, interests, and abilities of the campers. What makes our camps so special is the connection experienced with new friends, the support of a trained staff, and outdoor experiences that provide progression, challenge, and FUN, all in a place just for girls!

Whether a girl is a first-time or experienced camper, Girl Scouts of Northern California has a summer camp program that’s right for her.

DAY CAMP – Perfect for the girl who wants to try a variety of activities designed for fun and self-discovery, make new friends, and return home at the end of the day. A wide range of Girl Scout day camp programs are available throughout Northern California.

RESIDENT CAMP – The next level in summer adventures for girls. The overnight experience away from home offers extended program opportunities, lasting friendships and enhances independent living skills. From the high Sierra Mountains to the Pacific Coast, there’s a resident camp program waiting for you! FAMILY CAMP – Bring the family and come to camp for your next vacation! Girl Scouts of Northern California offers affordable options for families to play and camp together at Sugar Pine, Deer Lake, and Bothin.

VOLUNTEER RUN CAMPS – Day and resident camps run by volunteers and held at community locations throughout Northern California. Parents can often attend with their daughter in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS – Older girls, 9th grade and up, can have the opportunity to gain Counselor and/or Activity Leader skills through training and hands-on experience in a day or resident camp setting. Many camps offer leadership programs that range from beginning Program Aide to Counselor-In-Training, Wrangler-In-Training, and even Adventure Counselor-In-Training. Some programs are application only and require previous Girl Scout leadership training. For complete information visit camprocks.org.

council run camps bothin, deer lake, skylark Ranch, and sugar Pine resident camps, and Camp Metro day Camp are all Council Run camps, organized and run by full-time and seasonal Council staff. Girls attend as an individual, not with their parents (except for family camp) or with their troop.

CAMP REGISTRATION

Registration for all Council Run Camps opens Feb. 1. Online registration is available through camprocks.org. Refer to page 26 for information on the registration process, deposit fees, camp confirmations, and refund instructions. Note: Girl Scout camps are open to every girl without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability. Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts to register for camp.

CAMP PROGRAMS AND FEES

Girl Scouts of Northern California strives to provide quality, affordable summer camp programs for girls and families. Fees for camps listed in this brochure vary due to paid staff salaries, transportation costs, food service, camp locations, and program fees for special instructors and/or equipment. Resident camp costs are higher due to the overnight and extended program experience. A camp t-shirt is included in the camp fee (except for family camp). Resident camp fees also include meals, transportation (unless noted), and a camp patch and photo.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial assistance to help cover the camp fees (maximum of 80%) is available for girls who live within the Girl Scouts of Northern California Council area. CAMP STAFF

Staff members are enthusiastic, talented, and caring individuals who are selected on the basis of their skills, experience, ability to serve as role models, and their genuine desire to work with children. We select staff members who are committed to creating a caring and supportive environment that respects each child as an individual and allows them to feel good about who they are. The health and safety of the campers is always their first priority. Staff members must be at least 18 years old to work directly with the campers. Background checks are completed on all staff. The average ratio of staff to campers is 1:8. In some specialty programs, the ratio may be one to four. Staff members are recruited from colleges and universities nationwide, local community agencies, Girl Scout referrals, and international cultural exchange organizations. All staff members receive training prior to supervising campers. This includes activity programming, safety, team building, caring for campers, meeting their needs, and much more. Staff members who supervise high adventure activities are required to have additional training and qualifications.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

All camps must meet established standards for health and safety, site maintenance, program and personnel, which are set by state and local governments and Girl Scouts of the USA. In addition, all camps have a qualified Health Supervisor on site. A doctor, or emergency services, is on-call if illness or injury requires medical attention. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency. Refer to the â&#x20AC;&#x153;For Parentsâ&#x20AC;? section of the camprocks.org website for additional information on health management practices in our camps. Campers are also covered by supplemental health and accident insurance. The insurance cost is included in the camp fee. 4

CAMP ACCREDITATION

All Council Run camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA is a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and for the delivery of quality programs.

GIRLS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

If your daughter has medical or other special needs and can function with a 1:6 adult-to-camper ratio, we encourage you to work with the Camp Registrars to find her the most appropriate camp program. Bothin and Camp Metro are especially adaptable for campers with special physical needs. If your daughter needs more support to be successful, please contact our office at 800-447-4475, ext. 2091 or email happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org so that we can help you find the most appropriate program for her abilities or refer you to a special needs camp program in your community.

GROUND AND AIR TRANSPORTATION

Most camps listed in this brochure provide charter bus or van transportation from designated locations. Travel to and from pickup points is a family responsibility. Refer to each camp description for transportation details. Transportation schedules will be sent in the confirmation packets. Take Your Summer Adventure to the Next Level! the fun, the friendships, the adventure, the self-discovery — it’s all here at our Council Run resident camps in northern California. bothin, deer lake, skylark Ranch, and sugar Pine each offer unique and exciting summer programs for all interests. Our camps are open to all girls ages 5-17. sugar Pine, deer lake, and bothin also offer family camp programs. Overnight sessions for girl programs range from 4-13 days.the ratio of unit staff to campers is 1:6 for 5-8 year olds and 1:8 for all other camper groups.

BENEFITS OF RESIDENT CAMP

The benefits of a resident camp experience come from the extended time that girls participate in their program. It is a wonderful way for girls to increase their self-reliance and independent living skills by living away from home. Girls also enhance their socialization skills as they live and interact with girls from all over Northern California. The extended time at resident camp also allows for enhanced skill development in activities. With positive, adult role models and a friendly, supportive environment, girls can have a truly enriching summer experience.

THE CAMP PROGRAM

At our resident camps, girls live in a unit with an average of 12–24 other campers who have registered for the same program. The unit participates as a group in activities throughout the session. Unit programs range from a sampling of camp activities, such as in our Sea Stars program at Skylark Ranch, to specialty units such as horseback riding, surfing, or rock climbing. Every unit program, regardless of the focus, includes a variety of general camp activities such as outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, songs, stargazing, hiking or swimming. General activities available vary with each camp. Campfires, theme meals, talent shows, carnivals, and other all-camp events that bring everyone together will be held throughout the session. NOTE: Girls in K-3rd grade or 2nd-4th grade programs do not participate in archery or high ropes/climbing activities. This applies to family camp as well. Deer Lake, our High Sierra camp, offers girls “Adventure By Choice.” While campers still register for a unit program, part of their afternoons will be spent in individual choice activities. Girls make independent decisions about what they want to do at camp. This is the next step in the resident camp experience which provides an opportunity for campers to design a unique and personal adventure like no other!

A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP

The daily schedule for each camp will vary according to the unit activities planned. Most days begin with waking up around 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. Lunch is served at midday and dinner is at 6 p.m. Program activities occur in the morning, afternoon, and early evening. “Lights out” for campers varies according to age but is usually between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS AT RESIDENT CAMPS

Sleeping arrangements vary by camp, program, and living unit assigned. Arrangements may include cabins, dormitories, or large canvas platform tents all with cots or bunks, or tree beds/hammocks, or tipis, dome tents, or sleeping right under the stars, all on mattresses. Refer to each camp description for a list of accommodations at that site or contact happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org.

FOOD SERVICE AND SPECIAL DIETS

Meals at resident camp are served family or buffet style. Salad and sidebars are provided, and light snacks are available in the afternoon. A vegetarian option is provided at every meal. Some food allergies, such as gluten-free and lactose intolerance, may require the family to provide specialty food items. Severe food allergies may not be able to be accommodated. HEALTH EXAMS

All campers attending resident camp must have had a physical by a Licensed Physician, Physician’s Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner acting under the supervision of a Licensed Physician, within 12 months of their camp session. A health form will be supplied in the electronic camper packet to use for proof of health exam. Health forms must be submitted during the check-in process on the first day of each camp session.

Swimming, outdoor cooking, campfires under starry skies, and magical days with new friends will round out your experience. Bothin provides an enriching atmosphere for girls to explore their own interests, find their strengths, and learn from each other. Together, staff and campers build a close-knit community that empowers girls and encourages them to shine. With fun-filled days and memories to last a lifetime, Bothin is the place for you! Sleeping accommodations vary from dormitories and open-air cabins to platform or dome tents with mattresses.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is NOT provided to or from Bothin. Check in is from 2-3 p.m. on the first day of each session. The closing ceremony will start at 11 a.m. on the last day of each camp session. Parents are encouraged to attend and celebrate their daughter’s week of camp. Check out will be directly after the closing ceremony at noon. Campers are expected to be dropped off and picked up during these times.

SUMMER FUN PROGRAMS fantasia

Grades 1 – 3 Sessions 3A, 6A, 6B Fee $300 Everything you like to do and more! Swim in the pool, have fun at the art barn, dress up in costumes, dig in the garden, have a cookout and sing songs around the campfire with all your new friends. Use your imagination and design your own set of fairy wings. Then take a whimsical hike to the Fairy Steps for a special picnic. The magic of camp is waiting for you!

Glitterfy

Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 3B, 6A Fee $300 It’s all about the bling at Bothin! Add sparkle and glitz to everything you touch! Use beads, ribbons, and rhinestones to make beautiful jewelry. Have fun when you create a sparkling mosaic or glitter modge podge collage! Make edible glitter and decorate a yummy sweet treat. In between all that glitterfying, enjoy other camp activities too. Grab your new camp friends and get glitterfied!

Sunsational Grades 4 – 6

Sessions 1, 4 Fee $460 Sessions 3A, 3B, 6A, 6B Fee $300 Step into the world of summer fun and help create your own camp adventure. You and your group will choose many of your activities throughout the week. So what will it be? Climb the giant cargo net and soar through the trees on the zip line, splash in the pool, get creative at the art barn, try your hand at archery, harvest the garden, or cook tasty treats over a campfire, it’s all here for you! You and your new friends will catch some summer fun and have the time of your life!

ArtVenture Grades 4 – 6

Session 1 Fee $485 Session 6 Fee $510 An art adventure is waiting for you! Create your own design to put on a signature tote bag, make “yarn” from recycled plastic bags and a scarf from an old t-shirt. Let your creativity soar as you spend extra time on the high ropes course too. Waddle across the Charlie Chaplin or hop across suspended lily pads 40 feet in the air. Back in the art world, write and illustrate your own comic book adventure and take a crazy trip to Mrs. Grossman’s sticker factory too. It’s an ArtVenture!

Animal Lovers

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 1, 4 Fee $540 Are you crazy about animals? Then it’s off on a safari adventure for you! Head to the Oakland Zoo where you’ll team up for a special expedition in search of unique animals, from amazing Pachyderms to exotic Island Flying Fox Bats. Meet some hip “hop” friends from SaveABunny, a local rabbit rescue organization. Round out your safari with an exciting overnight at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco! Have fun with new friends as you learn about aquatic critters, then fall asleep under the crystal clear tunnels of the Aquarium as thousands of fish, including sharks, skates and bat rays swim overhead. It’s an awesome animal adventure waiting for you!

Monkey Business Grades 4 – 6

Session 3 Fee $485 Session 4 Fee $460 Have you ever wanted to swing through the trees like a monkey? Here’s your chance to climb, hang, and zip through the air on the exciting Bothin ropes course. Spend time each day challenging yourself on different elements. Will you conquer the triple stack or vertical playpen to reach the sky bench above the trees? Or will you scale the giant cargo net tunnel to get to the zip line? At the end of the day, relax around the campfire and make tasty treats like banana boats with your new friends.

Grades 5 – 8 Session 3 Fee $510 Painting, sculpting, sketching, and many other art mediums will fill this imaginative week at camp. Take a trip to the de Young art museum in San Francisco for inspiration in your self expression. Then let your creative side come to life as you paint a masterpiece, make a mosaic, or glaze bisque ware to fire in a kiln. Make your own template for a custom silk screened shirt too! Display your creations in a special art show for all the camp to see.

Grades 5 – 8 Session 6 Fee $565 Fly through the air with the greatest of ease. Experience aerial art and trapeze with a trip to Trapeze Arts in Oakland. Spend a day on the flying trapeze and learn the techniques to make a flying catch. Then it’s back in the air to try the excitement of aerial arts with a static trapeze bar, hoops, or perhaps silk ribbons. Back at camp, spend extra time up in the trees on the ropes course challenging yourself on the sky surfers, zip line, or crossing the hop scotch over the creek. Get a lesson from professional circus performers in juggling and magic. Then create your own act and help host the Bothin Carnival.

H.I.P.

Grades 6 – 9 Session 1A Fee $300 Hike, Imagine, and Play – your way! In this fun and exciting four-day program just for older girls, you and your group will design your own camp experience. What to do? Get creative in the art barn, swim in the pool, plan a flashmob, take a twilight hike, or maybe hang from the trees on the high ropes adventure course. Try a little bit of everything and just be H.I.P.

The Incredible Race

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 1, 4 Fee $525 Race through camp and beyond on an amazing adventure, but watch out for detours! Teams will navigate a course of challenges in and out of camp where skill, knowledge, and teamwork get you ahead. Use different types of transportation and solve clues, riddles, puzzles and complete physical challenges to get to the next stop in the race. Will you be the master archer, the swimming champ, the camp song star? One of your races will take you across the Golden Gate Bridge, then you will come back to camp and explore Bothin’s own Golden Gate Bridge on our ropes course!

Rustic Retreat

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 3, 6 Fee $505 Come enjoy all that Bothin has to offer in your very own summer getaway! Climb to the top of the Adventure Course, express your self in the art barn, aim for the bulls-eye in archery, and hike the skyline trail to take in the breathtaking view of the Bay. Then hang out with all of your new camp friends on an overnight at a youth hostel at Point Reyes. Explore a lighthouse and relax on the beach. The rest is up to you!

On Belay

Grades 6 – 9 Session 1 Fee $540 Get “On Belay” when you climb into a week-long adventure challenge on the exciting Bothin ropes course. Spend time everyday setting goals and conquering the elements. Work with your teammates to scale the triple stack, climb the giant cargo net backwards, and fly through the trees on the zip line. Round out your week with an amazing Eco Canopy Tour in Sonoma where you will soar through the treetops on 7 zip lines!

Sand, Sun, and Route 1

Grades 8 – 12 Session 2 Fee $785 It’s the ultimate road trip with your friends along Highway 1. Create a playlist for the trip, pack up the car, and prepare to camp in some of the most scenic parts of California. Have fun cruising in your kayak along the shores of Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row in Monterey. Spend a day exploring the trails and sights of Big Sur and make a splash when you try stand up paddle boarding in Santa Cruz. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge and take a leisurely hike to the top of Mt. Tamalpais for spectacular views of the Bay and visit the beautiful Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Check out amazing coastal beaches, lighthouses, and other interesting spots as you discover the magic and fun of the great American road trip! Must be able to swim in deep water.

BOTHIN THEATER COMPANY

Immerse yourself in the world of performance art! Campers in these programs will explore and practice different aspects of theater production within a program theme. From acting, singing, dancing, and improvisation to make-up, set design, technical support, and more. All groups will work toward a special performance at the end of their session. Campers will also have time to enjoy other fun activities from swimming, outdoor cooking, and arts and crafts, to exploring the organic garden, games, campfires, and much more!

Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 3B, 6B Fee $320 Lights, camera, action! Take the stage and shine like the star that you are! Have fun with skits, costumes, make-up, and more. Then be part of the opening act for the BIG Off Broadway performance where all of camp can see you and your new friends light up the stage.

I Gotta Be Me!

COOKING PROGRAMS

Grades 4 – 6 Session 4 Fee $460 Tell the world who you are! If you like to dance, sing, write, or act, then this is where you want to be. From Karaoke and comedy to posing and poetry, explore many types of self expression. Design an interpretive dance, create a song, and put it to music or even write your own poetry or short story and perform for all of camp. This is your chance for YOU to be YOU!

Grades 2 – 4 Session 3A Fee $320 A spoonful of sugar, a dash of friendship, and a cup of laughter are the ingredients for a delicious time at camp! Learn the basics of baking and make scrumptious snacks or a yummy dessert. Decorate cupcakes and plan a party to share your creations. Design your own cooking apron too.

Sweet Treats

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 1A, 6B Fee $320 All the fun of outdoor cooking in a program that’s short, sweet, and filled with treats! Maybe you’ll make chocolate fondue over a fire, create a cake in a box oven, get creative with campfire crepes, or make a berry cobbler in a dutch oven. And of course, you’ll build a s’more! Have fun with new friends and enjoy all that Bothin offers. Yummy!

garden party Grades 4 – 6

Session 3 Fee $515 Session 4 Fee $490 Gardens and gnomes and goats, OH MY! Join us for a whimsical garden party where you’ll spend time tending and harvesting our very own B.O.G. (Bothin Organic Garden). Make delicious dishes with your fruits of the earth. Create paper lanterns to hang from the trees during a garden party you host with your new friends. Design and paint a garden gnome to watch over the B.O.G. while you travel to a local farm to visit the goats and learn more about a working farm. Visit the local farmers market to gather ingredients to use in your outdoor kitchen. It’s the party of the summer!

Grades 5 – 8 Session 2 Fee $640 Grades 8 – 12 Session 5 Fee $665 It’s showtime! From auditions to the final bow, work with your group to put on a complete musical production. Participate in daily rehearsals, design sets, create costumes, and learn about all aspects of a Broadway show. Attend a local theatrical performance and learn more about professional stage work too. At the end of your session, present your production to all of camp. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and can join you for a special “cast party” following the performance. Just hear that applause!

FAMILY CAMP PROGRAM Girls Just Want To Have Fun!

Grades 5 – 7 Session 4 Fee $530 Calling all food fans – the kitchen challenge is on! Work with your team every day to overcome some interesting kitchen and cooking obstacles and figure out what to make! Be on the look out for your mystery basket of ingredients, then find or create a recipe to make your team creation. Or perhaps you will find an essential ingredient is missing from the kitchen; what will you do? Problem solve like a true chef and make it work!

Grades 7 – 10 Session 6 Fee $560 Appetizer to dessert, design a five-course meal with flavors that complement each other and explore the world of fine dining. Discover what goes into running a restaurant or reviewing dishes as a Food Critic. Visit a local restaurant to meet a professional chef. Then turn the dining hall into your group’s own restaurant and help design and prepare a special meal for other campers. Delicious!

Sierra Seekers

Deer Lake has a unique program structure – Adventure by Choice! Girls make independent decisions on activities they want to participate in each afternoon. Activity choices may include specialty arts, music, swimming, canoeing or paddle boarding, the climbing tower, high ropes, archery, volleyball, fort or raft building, drama, or even hanging out in the “DL Zone” and more … the possibilities are endless! Girls will receive “Adventure Beads” for each different activity they try. Free choice activities are in addition to the unit program in which they are registered. (Note: Campers on field trips will not participate in free choice activities when they are out of camp.) Note: Grade means level entering in the Fall.

Grades 5 – 7 Sessions 1, 3 Fee $495 Your mission, should you choose to accept it: participate in a high-tech treasure hunting game called geocaching, played by adventure seekers like you all over the world. First, you’ll navigate a network of obstacles while working together as a team. Climb to the top of the Vertical Playpen, paddle your way through the canoe slalom course, or hit the bulls-eye in an archery team relay. With each challenge, your team will discover clues and by using a GPS device, you will solve The Great Deer Lake Mystery! Create your own geocache for other seekers to find too.

Grades 5 – 8 Sessions 1, 4 Fee $495 No kitchen required! This is outdoor cooking … adventure style! With your team of Extreme Chefs, take on this ultimate cooking challenge. Each day a mystery basket with surprise ingredients will arrive. What would you make using a dutch oven and pineapple? Create gourmet appetizers, entrees, or desserts based on what you get. Using different types of cooking methods and lots of imagination, you’ll prepare your delicious dishes – and our Camp Cooks will choose their favorites. It’s cuisine extreme!

Come Sail Away

Grades 6 – 9 Session 1 Fee $550 With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, spend your days on Kidd Lake. Balance the board, pull up a sail, navigate the waters, and experience the rush of windsurfing. Have a blast building crazy rafts and get a chance to paddle around Deer Lake. For some extra excitement, you’ll take a tour of Lake Tahoe aboard the 50-foot sailing yacht Tahoe Cruise.

Outback

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 1, 3 Fee $495 Step into the Outback for your wilderness challenge! You and your friends will set up your own backwoods campsite. Learn orienteering and advanced wilderness skills, practice lashing, and build your own shelter. Try your hand at animal tracking and finding your way by the night sky. Cook many of your own meals even hold a night watch if you choose. The adventure is yours for the taking — so join us in the Outback! 12

Then take on the challenge of some exciting Class 2 and 3 rapids on a half-day rafting trip down the Truckee River. Keep your water adventure going when you tackle the DL canoe slalom course and build a signature raft with your new camp friends. Paddle on! Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Rock N’ River

Grades 7 – 12 Session 4 Fee $635 Can’t decide if you want to raft or climb? Now you can do both! Spend a half day riding the rapids rafting on the Truckee River and one day climbing at Donner Pass. Back at camp, build rafts with your camp friends, and challenge each other to a team race across the lake. The rest of the week, have an awesome time with everything else there is to do at Deer Lake. Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Rockin’ Out!

Grades 7 – 12 Session 3 Fee $635 Your challenge … to CLIMB! Start your climbing adventure with extra time on the DL climbing courses and learn the skills and techniques of belaying. Then head to Donner Summit for two separate days of rock climbing instruction. Master basic knots, practice rappelling and climb both crack and rock face routes. Spend extra time bouldering too. Come rock out at Deer Lake!

Shoot the Rapids

Grades 8 – 12 Session 2A Fee $695 How adventurous are you? Grab your paddle and become part of a team as you spend 2 days rafting on the American River with qualified, experienced guides. Your group will camp out underneath the stars, explore the rapids, work together, and discover the adventurous spirit in each of you! Everyone back at camp will be waiting to hear about your amazing river adventure. Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Grades 8 – 12 Session 2 Fee $655 Take the Aerial Treetop Challenge! Your adventure begins by spending extra time on the DL climbing courses. Develop your belay skills and take the lead as your fellow campers climb on the high ropes course or climbing tower. Take a special trip to the aerial climbing adventure course at Granlibakken near Lake Tahoe. Ascend to your starting tree platform and then travel at your own pace through the forest on an aerial trek that includes a series of suspended bridges, zip lines, and exciting climbing challenges. Help design and/or build elements for a new low challenge course at Deer Lake too. Climb On!

Spend a portion of your day taking a lesson on these new techniques and then create a studio space to explore your creative side further. Journey up the Santa Cruz coastline on a team challenge sailing regatta with experienced skippers from Pacific Yachting. Grades 7 – 10 Sessions 3A, 4B Fee $570 Travel through the redwoods, across the sky bridges and zip lines over 400 feet long. Enjoy the pristine beauty of the coastal redwood forest from the unique perspective only a canopy tour can offer. Back at camp, climb the elements of the high ropes course and learn basic climbing knots. Practice your climbing and ropes techniques further at an indoor rock climbing gym where you can boulder and scale the walls. Note: Campers must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs.

Surf’s Up

Grades 8 – 12 Session 5 Fee $715 Hang ten and ride the waves as you surf the waters in Santa Cruz. Under the direction of a world-renowned surfing instructor, spend eight hours over four days learning the basics of this exciting sport. You’ll be on your board in no time! Spend a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and get a fish’s eye view on an underwater adventure as you surface scuba dive in the Great Tide Pool! Explore Point Lobos State Reserve and check out the hanging cliffside gardens off Bird Island Trail. Venture the waters of the Santa Cruz harbor for a day of sea kayaking too. EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM

Skylark Ranch offers quality riding school instruction in a summer camp setting. Our program features beginning to advanced lessons in both English and Western riding. Emphasis in all program levels is on skill development, progression, and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Campers receive a riding assessment on the first day of camp and are placed in riding classes based on their skill level. Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least one instructor to six campers.

SUMMER FUN PROGRAMS Horseback Rides

All campers in the Summer Fun Programs will have the chance for a horseback riding lesson once during their session (Mountain Do! has two rides). These lessons will be held in the arena and, depending on the riding skills and abilities of the camper groups, may also include a trail ride. The Riding Staff at camp determine if a trail ride will take place. For this activity, the maximum weight allowed is 200 lbs.

Jamboree!

Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 3A, 3B Fee $320 A jamboree of summer fun just for you! In this special four-day program, you can get a real taste of camp life. Swim in the pool, have a cookout and make tasty treats, get creative with crafts, take a special twilight hike, and sing songs under starry skies. Start your gold rush adventure with a trip to Mercer Caverns where you’ll mine for gems like emeralds and moon stones in a mining sluice. Stake your claim at Columbia State Park, a living restored gold rush town, and learn to pan for gold. Back at camp, head to the Art Barn to create a piece of jewelry with the treasure you find. These programs blend elements of both Western Pleasure and Western Equitation riding to offer girls a comprehensive and fun horse experience. Riding lessons in the arena and on the trail will focus on appropriate activities for their level. level i – No previous riding experience needed Practice correct sitting position at the halt and walk and how to ride in an arena without a lead line. Team up for a unique mystery trail. With your group, use orienteering to solve clues and navigate through trail obstacles until you reach your goal. At the stables, focus on mounting, dismounting, turning, and controlling your horse at a walk, then hit the trail to practice your skills. After the ride, it’s time for some cookin’ fun! Have a breakfast cookout, get creative with all the things you can cook on a stick or in a dutch oven. Finish your day around the campfire exploring new and unique ingredients for gourmet s’mores! Leading Latigos

Grades 5 – 8 Session 4 Fee $595 Lights! Camera! Horses! It’s time to shine in the saddle when you step center stage and combine your love for acting and riding. Learn or improve your basic riding skills. Practice correct position in the saddle and controlling your horse at the walk and jog. For the true performer in you, have fun learning some basic skills used for riding drill team too. Then with your group, create a story line, hop in the saddle and put on a Wild West show for other campers. Just hear the applause!

Climb and Ride

Grades 5 – 8 Sessions 1, 4 Fee $595 Yee Haw and On Belay? That’s right! Enjoy two of your favorite Sugar Pine activities when you spend extra time in horseback riding lessons and on the Adventure Tower. Have three riding lessons including a trail ride. Learn to ride in the arena without a lead line, demonstrate the basic balanced position at the halt and walk, and learn to control your horse at the walk and jog. Theory lessons and grooming and saddling are part of the fun. Camp Metro operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. An optional early morning and evening program is also available. The ratio of staff to camper groups is at least one to eight. Camp Metro is located in the Berryessa neighborhood, in the northeast area of Santa Clara County. The camp operates out of the Girl Scout Program Center near Hwy. 680 and Capitol Avenue. With its beautiful park-like setting along Penitencia Creek and convenient freeway access, this site makes an ideal location for a day camp. (Note: Refer to the transportation section for pick-up and drop-off options from different parts of the South Bay.)

THE CAMP PROGRAM At Camp Metro, girls are placed in unit groups with an average of 8-16 other campers depending on the program. Units spend most of their time together participating in activities based on their program focus. During the week, units come together at special times to participate in all-camp events. At the end of each day, the campers gather at “Circle” to sing songs, share stories and memories of the day, and look ahead to the next day’s adventures. Every Friday afternoon, the entire camp puts on a special show for parents and friends. Each week, a special guest visitor also gives an entertaining and educational presentation. From South American music or dance to African porcupines and exotic rainforest animals, campers delight in the fun of these weekly special visits that serve to enhance the environmental and cultural themes of Camp Metro.

MORNING & EVENING METRO PROGRAM

Pre- and post-camp programs are available for an additional fee of $25/week/ program. Morning Metro is offered from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and Evening Metro is offered from 5-6 p.m. Campers may be dropped off or picked up anytime during these programs. Fees will not be prorated for days not used. During these programs, a variety of general activities will be offered under the guidance of camp staff members. The Great Teddy Bear Adventure

Grades K – 3 Sessions 1, 3 Fee $240 Are you ready for a little adventure? A new, fuzzy friend awaits your arrival at camp to start the fun. Make your own teddy bear then team up with your new friends, and of course your bear, and have fun solving clues that will lead you on a new adventure everyday. Maybe your clues will take you to the art pavilion for some creative crafts, or to the stage to learn the “Teddy Bear Tango” or even to the nature room to find out about real bears. There’s even a special Teddy Bear picnic waiting for you!

LIMITED van transportation from designated locations in the South Bay is available for Camp Metro. Pre-registration is required and seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Volunteer Run Camps are day and resident camps planned and run by Girl scout volunteers and held throughout northern California.these fun, enriching, local camps allow girls to extend their Girl scout experience into the summer months and often offer leadership opportunities for older girls.

CAMP STAFF VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Run Camps are all staffed by screened and trained volunteers. Parents can often attend with their daughter in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation. Each camp handles volunteer registration differently. To obtain information about volunteering, contact the camps directly.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

All camps must meet established standards for health and safety, site, program, and personnel, which are set by Girl Scouts of the USA. Resident camps must meet additional state and local government standards. A qualified Health Supervisor is on site at all camps. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency.

tiPs fOR ReGisteRinG fOR CAMP • Register on the opening date, Feb. 1, to have the best chance of getting your first choice. • Go Green and Online! – Online registrations are processed faster than paper or FAX. Online payments will only be processed if the camper is placed in a program. Paper and FAX payments will be processed when received in the office, regardless of placement status. • Only register via one method (online OR mail OR paper/FAX). Registering by multiple methods does not give you a better chance of getting into a program and will result in multiple non-refundable deposit payments. • Do not sign up for multiple camp programs during the same session time in more than one camp. WHEN TO REGISTER

Registration officially opens Feb. 1 at 12:01 a.m. Online registrations will be accepted at that time on a first-come, first-served basis. Paper and fax registrations may be submitted prior to Feb. 1; however, placement will not occur until Feb. 1 during regular business hours. When more registrations have been received on Feb. 1 than space available, campers will be placed on a wait list for their first choice and confirmed in an alternate choice if listed and space is available. Registrations received after Feb. 1 will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

HOW TO REGISTER

There are two ways to register for camp: A. Online at camprocks.org – this option requires a credit card authorization and at least a $100 deposit for each girl only session and/or a $50 deposit/person for family Camp programs. •

On the website, refer to the “Register for Camp” section. Follow the link to register online. • If space is available in the program, your credit card/debit card payment will be processed immediately and you will be confirmed in the program. • If space is not available, you may choose to be placed on a waitlist and then try registering for another program. Your credit card/debit card will not be charged if you elect to be placed on a waitlist. If space becomes available, an email notification will be sent. Note: Online registration uses enhanced security features for secure transactions. Our service provider is Security Metrics Certified, meeting the Payment Card Industry security standards (PCI).

B. To register two campers for the same program, they must both meet the age requirements for that program. List them as Camper Buddies on each other’s online or paper registration form. For paper or FAX registrations, submit them together or mail them in the same envelope. Placement with a buddy is not guaranteed. A maximum of two names together will be accepted. An additional, non-refundable $12 registration fee will apply for all girls who are not currently Girl Scouts. An additional $50 fee will apply for all girls living outside the Girl Scouts of Northern California jurisdiction. This fee covers a portion of the indirect costs relating to camp operations, which are subsidized by the Council. Family camp programs require a non-refundable $50/person deposit at time of registration. A current health exam (within 12 months of camp) by a Licensed Physician, Physicians Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner acting under the supervision of a Licensed Physician is required for attendance at resident camp.

DEPOSITS

The deposit will not be refunded after camp registration is confirmed. Nonrefundable deposits are not transferable to another program or camper. For questions on this policy, contact the Council Registration Department.

CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION

Camp registrations are considered confirmed once they are placed in the Girl Scout computer system regardless of whether a confirmation notice has been received. A camper information packet with important pre-camp details will be sent approximately three weeks after the camp registration has been confirmed and no sooner than Feb. 15. If no email address is provided, the information packet will be mailed. Health forms will be sent to campers with the camp packet and must be signed by one of the medical professionals above, and brought with you on camp check-in day. Confirmation materials can also be found on the Parents Corner of the CampRocks.org section of the website. A user name and password is required to access documents and will be sent via an electronic confirmation email.

PAYMENT OF FEES

The balance of the camp fee is due three weeks before the opening day of the confirmed camp session. The total camp fee may be paid at any time prior, including at the time of registration. Online payments may be made by credit card or debit card only. Payments may also be made by mail or in person by check, money order, credit card, or debit card, or GSNorCal Cookie/Fall Sales Rewards card. A $35 service charge will be made on all returned checks. NOTE: A camper will be cancelled from a program if payment is not received by the three week due date. If your registration is cancelled, you will be sent a notification and all fees paid up to that point are non-refundable.

CANCELLATIONS

To cancel a registration or a waitlist spot, send an email or written notification to happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org or 1-408-287-8025. To receive a refund of the registration fees paid less the deposit, a notice of cancellation must be received three weeks prior to the first day of the camp session for which the cancellation is being made.

REFUND POLICY

Full refund: If your selected camp session(s) is full and no alternative can be found or if the financial aid amount requested is not fully granted, the total amount paid will be refunded. Partial refund: The balance of the camp fee, less deposit, will be refunded only if: •

Family plans change and the camper can no longer attend. In this case, written notification must be received three weeks before the opening date of the confirmed camp session; The camper does not attend due to illness or injury. A letter from a physician must accompany the refund request; The camper is sent home from camp due to illness or injury occurring at camp. Refunds are prorated in such cases and will not be made if the camper attends more than half of the camp session and will be made only at the written request of the parent/guardian.

No refunds will be made if the camper does not attend her camp session or leaves early for any other reason, even if her space is filled by another participant. Make refund requests in writing no later than Aug. 31, 2013 to the Girl scouts of northern California.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Any girl who lives within Girl Scouts of Northern California’s jurisdiction is eligible to apply for financial help to attend Girl Scout camps in Northern California. Girls who live outside of this Council must contact their local Girl Scout Council for financial aid information. Girls must be registered Girl Scouts by April 15. DEADLINE: Financial Aid requests must be submitted no later than May 15.

If you believe that going to camp is a valuable way to increase self confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of accomplishment, please join us in providing the camp experience to girls who cannot afford it. There is a place to make a donation to our campership fund while registering online at camprocks.org or with paper registration form in this brochure. You CAN make a huge difference with even a small donation! Share the power of the camp experience - be a Camp Champion! Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax advisor as individual situations vary.

Financial aid decisions are not made until camp placement has been confirmed. Families may request financial assistance for one session of resident camp OR no more than two sessions of day camp. All information is confidential.

Complete the financial aid and the camp registration forms in this brochure or on the website at CampRocks.org. Note: the camp registration form and financial aid form are two separate forms and are processed separately. List the name of camp, program, and fee for which assistance is being requested on the financial aid form. Girls or families must pay at least the deposit for their camp session. Should the financial aid amount requested not be fully granted and applicant chooses to cancel their registration, a refund of the deposit will be allowed. In such case, a refund request must be submitted in writing by Aug. 31. Financial aid is based on need and this must be clearly reflected on the form. The Council takes into account income level, family size, and a detailed explanation of circumstances when granting financial assistance. Documentation that verifies income level must be provided with the form (i.e. paycheck stub, tax return, unemployment check receipt, etc.) Incomplete forms or those missing proof of income will not be reviewed.

Bring the whole family to the mountains for a weekend and partner with us to prepare the resident camps for the summer camp season. There is no fee, and meals are provided beginning with Saturday breakfast. Projects at the camps may include putting up platform tents, opening up and cleaning out buildings from the winter, cleaning bathrooms, clearing trails, clearing brush and debris, painting, and more. Your much appreciated work will be followed by a special Saturday evening family campfire. Housing will be in seasonal shelters or buildings.
