Our camps are rich in traditions with intentional program progression that empowers girls.

Council-Run Camps
Organized resident camps run by full-time and seasonal Council Staff members. Girls attend as individuals, not with their troops or parents (except for family camp). Bothin, Skylark Ranch and Sugar Pine are all Council-Run camps.
Volunteer-Run Camps
Day and resident programs run by volunteers held at community locations throughout Northern California. Parents can often attend with their daughters in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation.
Family Camps
Families enjoy affordable ‘fun’ vacations together at Skylark Ranch or Sugar Pine.
Leadership Programs
Girls in the 9th grade and older have the opportunity to develop leadership skills in our day and resident camps. Training and hands-on experiences teach Counselor, Activity Leader, Wrangler, Program and Camp Aide skills. Refer to page 17 for Council-Run leadership programs.

Council-Run
Resident Camp
Girl-powered adventures that build life skills! Whether a girl is a first time or experienced camper, an outdoor enthusiast or a creative type, there’s an exciting program at Bothin, Skylark Ranch or Sugar Pine just for her! Overnight sessions range from 4 – 13 days and are longer for leadership programs. Our caring and supportive staff create a community that respects each child as an individual and allows them to feel good about who they are and what they can accomplish.
GIRLS BENEFIT FROM THE CAMP EXPERIENCE In our nurturing yet empowering community, girls try new things, take healthy risks and learn how to live with campers and staff who have had different experiences than they have. The extended time at resident camp also allows for enhanced skill development in many activities. Girls return home with increased confidence and a sense of independence that helps them be more successful in school.
WE’RE INTENTIONAL ABOUT OUR CAMP PROGRAM Girls live in units with 12 – 24 other campers who are in the same program and of a similar grade in school. The unit participates as a group in activities and forms strong bonds throughout the session. Programs range from a sampling of camp activities to specialty areas such as horseback riding, surfing, rock climbing or theater arts. Girls in specialty programs spend extra time in activities related to their theme. Every unit program, regardless of focus, includes general activities such as outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, singing, stargazing, hiking or swimming. Activities vary by camp.
Campfires, theme meals, talent shows, carnivals and other all-camp events add to the fun. Refer to camprocks.org for more details on camp life! Note: Campers in 1st – 3rd and 2nd – 4th grade programs do not participate in archery or high ropes/ climbing activities. This applies to family camp as well.
STAFF ARE CAREFULLY SCREENED We recruit in colleges/universities nationwide, community agencies and international cultural exchange organizations. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a thorough background check before they are selected for their skills, experience, enthusiasm and ability to serve as positive role models. All staff members attend an intensive orientation prior to supervising campers and specialists have appropriate credentials.
OUR #1 PRIORITY IS HEALTH & SAFETY All of our camps meet standards for health, safety, maintenance, program and personnel which are set by the state, Girl Scouts USA and the American Camp Association. Each camp has a Health Supervisor on site with a doctor on call. We have a 1:6 staff-to-camper ratio for 5 – 8 year olds and 1:8 for older campers. In case of emergency, parents will be notified immediately. Refer to the ‘For Parents’ section of the camprocks.org website for more details.

Be an “Artist in Residence” and let your imagination soar, or join the Bothin Theatre Company and find out if you like to be on the stage or behind the scenes. Climb through the trees on our amazing Adventure Course, or discover the world of animals, it’s all here waiting for you! And with unique free-choice special events during each session, girls can make individual choices on many activities! Swimming, outdoor cooking, campfires under starry skies, and magical days with new friends will round out the experience. Bothin provides an enriching atmosphere for girls to try new things, find their strengths, and learn from each other. Together, staff and campers build a close-knit community that empowers girls and encourages them to shine. With fun-filled days and memories to last a lifetime, Bothin is the place for you!
Transportation
Transportation is NOT provided to or from Bothin. Check in is from 2 – 3 p.m. on the first day of each session. The closing ceremony will start at 11 a.m. on the last day of each camp session. Parents are encouraged to attend and celebrate their daughter’s week of camp. Check out will be directly after the closing ceremony at noon. Campers are expected to be dropped off and picked up during these times.

Everything you like to do and more! Swim in the pool, have fun at the art barn, dress up in costumes, dig in the garden, have a cookout and go on a special adventure to find the hidden fairy steps. The magic of camp is waiting for you!

Bunnies, Birds and Bears, oh my! What’s your favorite animal? Discover how different animals live and play, and have fun in art when you make wild animal masks or amazing critter collages. Hang out with the Bothin chickens and even make your own Bothin Teddy Bear. Learn the Teddy Bear Waltz and song, and dance the days away with all your new friends – bears included!

Celebrate the summer – Bothin style! In this fun-filled adventure just for YOU, get a real taste of camp life. Have you ever wanted to swing through the trees like a monkey? Here’s your chance to climb, hang, and zip through the air on the exciting Bothin adventure course. Or will you scale the giant cargo net tunnel to get to the zip line? At the end of the day relax around the campfire and make tasty treats like banana boats with your new friends.

Animal Lovers Grades 5 – 8
Step into the world of summer fun and help create your own camp adventure. You and your group will choose many of your activities throughout the week. So what will it be? Climb the giant cargo net and soar through the trees on the zip line, splash in the pool, get creative at the art barn, aim for a bull’s eye in archery, cook tasty treats over a campfire or have a sleep-out under starry skies. It’s all here for you!

“I Gotta be ME!”
Grades 4 – 6
Hike, Imagine, and Play – your way! In this fun and exciting four-day program just for older girls, you and your group will design your own camp experience. What to do? Get creative in the art barn, swim in the pool, plan a flashmob, take a twilight hike, or maybe hang from the trees on the high ropes adventure course. Try a little bit of everything and just be H.I.P.

Are you crazy about animals? Then it’s off on a safari adventure for you! Head to the Oakland Zoo where you’ll team up for a special expedition in search of unique animals, from amazing Pachyderms to exotic Island Flying Fox Bats. Meet some “hip hop” friends from SaveABunny, a local rabbit rescue organization. Round out your safari with an exciting overnight at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco! Have fun with new friends as you learn about aquatic critters, then fall asleep under the crystal clear tunnels of the Aquarium as thousands of fish, including sharks, skates and bat rays swim overhead. It’s an awesome animal adventure waiting for you!

Step into your very own summer getaway and enjoy all that Bothin has to offer! Climb to the top of the Adventure Course, express yourself in the art barn, aim for the bulls-eye in archery and discover breathtaking views of the Bay from the top of the Skyline trail. Then hang out with all your new friends on an overnight at the Pt. Reyes Youth Hostel. Explore the lighthouse, search for tule elk or elephant seals and relax around your beach bonfire under starry skies. It’s the perfect summer retreat!

Get “On Belay” when you climb into a week-long adventure challenge on the exciting Bothin adventure course. Spend time every day setting goals and conquering the elements. Work with your teammates to scale the triple stack, climb the giant cargo net backwards, and fly through the trees on the zip line. Try your hand at the Great Zip Line Target Drop – how high will you score? Round out your week with an amazing Eco Canopy Tour in Sonoma where you will soar through the treetops on seven zip lines!
Bothin Theatre Company
Immerse yourself in the world of performance art! Campers in these programs will explore and practice different aspects of theater production within a program theme. From acting, singing, dancing, and improvisation to make-up, set design, technical support, and more. All groups will work toward a special performance at the end of their session. Campers will also have time to enjoy other fun activities from swimming, outdoor cooking, and arts and crafts, to exploring the organic garden, games, campfires, and much more!

Take the stage and shine like the star that you are! Have fun with skits, dance, costumes, make-up, special effects and more. Then be part of the opening act for the BIG Off Broadway performance where all of camp can see you and your new friends light up the stage.

Lights, camera, costumes! Help bring Bothin’s own theatrical production to life by joining the crews that design and build the sets, create the costumes and produce the show. Show off your camera skills by creating rehearsal videos, and plan photo shoots with the cast. From sound and lighting to video production you’ll get to explore the integral parts of theater production! The show can’t go on without you!

It’s Showtime! From auditions to the final bow, work with your group to put on a complete musical production. Participate in daily rehearsals, design sets, create costumes, and learn about all aspects of a Broadway show. Attend a local theatrical performance and learn more about professional stage work too. At the end of your session, present your production to all of camp. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and can join you for a special “cast party” following the performance. Just hear that applause!

Spend a long summer day at Skylark’s very own beach lagoon. While at the beach, enjoy playing games and building sand castles for mermaids near the shimmering waves. Explore the tide pools where sea creatures spend their days. Visit Fern Grove to build a fairy house, have fun with arts and crafts, meadow games, and more.
Do you love the thrill of the ropes courses? Start the fun when you and your camp friends master daily obstacles on the low or high courses. Soar through the air on the giant swing, traverse the wobbly multi-vine and experience the ultimate challenge of these and more elements while climbing through the majestic Redwoods. Learn the skills needed to belay your teammates and develop the true meaning of trust. Belay on!

Ever wonder what it would be like to live on a farm? Join us and find out! Meet the goats at Harley Farms and learn about cheese making, then taste some delicious cheeses. Bake Australian Damper Bread over the campfire and then gather berries at Swanton Berry Farms to make delicious jam for your bread. Or even bake a pie in an outdoor oven! Spend your nights back at camp hosting whimsical parties full of treats and delights you’ve gathered from the farms.

Catch the best summer adventure when you explore Skylark by day and night. Try lashing and build awesome forts with new friends. Have fun with cookouts, archery, and climbing through the trees on the high ropes course. Weave a dream catcher to hang over your hammock and sleep out under a sea of stars. Dream on!

The ultimate outdoor skills experience! You’re stranded on an imaginary island with only your wits and camp friends to depend on. What would you do?! Lash a tree bed to sleep in, cook your own meals and learn outdoor skills and wilderness techniques of course. Then use your imagination to make this primitive camp “island” your home away from home!
Guitars & Gourmet Grades 6 – 9

Whether you’re cooking something delicious to eat or singing your favorite camp songs, this program has it all! Create gourmet meals— outdoor style—and sit around the campfire learning to play the guitar or just enjoy the music. Plan a campfire party for other girls and serenade them under the stars. Pacific Adventures! Seafari Grades 5 – 8

Explore the wealth of wildlife roaming the endless Pacific! Your Seafari begins by visiting the Elephant Seals at Año Nuevo State Beach. Then head to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center and check out the dolphins, otters, and other marine mammals before exploring the expansive tide pools at Natural Bridges beach. Your adventure continues when you hop aboard a catamaran and sail through a kelp forest where you may catch a glimpse of sea lions, seals, and sea otters.

Leave the shoreline for an amazing adventure at sea. Journey up the Santa Cruz coast on a team challenge sailing regatta with experienced skippers from Pacific Yachting. See marine mammals up close when you paddle through the harbor in your kayak, then take your adventure to the next level by learning to balance yourself on a stand up paddle board in the ocean! Note: Must be able to swim face down in deep water.
Oceans Away! Grades 6 – 9

Up, Up, and Away Grades 7 – 10
What could you see, when you step out to sea? Spend a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and get a fish’s eye view on an underwater adventure as you surface scuba dive in the Great Tide Pool! After an overnight in Monterey, explore the ocean on a boating excursion as you look for whales and other marine creatures. Then venture the ocean waters near the coast for a day of sea kayaking. Note: All equipment is provided. Must be able to swim face down in deep water. Maximum age limit is 13 years old for surface scuba.
Fee $795
Travel through the redwoods, across sky bridges and zip lines over 400 feet long, on an exciting canopy tour near Santa Cruz. Enjoy the pristine beauty of the coastal redwood forest from the unique perspective only a sky-high adventure like this can offer. Then explore the redwood forest on an amazing aerial adventure. Challenge yourself with different self-guided aerial trails through the trees, trying multiple elements, including swinging logs, cargo nets and cables up to 80 feet in the air! Back at camp, scale the elements of the high ropes course and learn basic climbing knots. Note: Campers must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs.
Sand, Sun and Route 1
It’s the ultimate seven day road trip with your friends along Highway 1. Create a playlist for the trip, pack up the car, and prepare to camp in some of the most scenic parts of California. Check out lighthouses, beaches and interesting spots as you discover the magic and fun of the great American road trip! Note: Must be able to swim in deep water.
Stars and Sky Route Grades 8 – 12

Head north along the beautiful Coastal highway and stop at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve to explore the amazing tide pools. Catch a glimpse of the epic surfing waves of Mavericks too! After an overnight at Montaro Lighthouse, head to Golden Gate Park and the California Academy of Sciences for an awesome planetarium show. Then grab your friends and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge and take in the San Francisco skyline. Travel on to Sonoma for a zip line adventure through the tree top canopy and then to Pt. Reyes national Seashore and Tomales Bay for an exciting evening bioluminescence kayak tour.

Have fun cruising in your kayak along the shores of Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row in Monterey. Spend the day exploring the trails and sights of Big Sur. Check out amazing coastal beaches before you travel on to see the exotic Hearst Castle. Visit Morro Bay and take a glass bottom boat cruise. Who knows what you’ll see. Then try balancing yourself on the ocean waves with a surfing lesson! Round out your road trip with an overnight by the beach, listening to the waves and enjoying time with new friends.

Equestrian Skylark Ranch offers quality riding school instruction in a summer camp setting. Our program features beginning to advanced lessons in both English and Western riding. Emphasis in all program levels is on skill development, progression, and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Campers receive a riding assessment on the first day of camp and are placed in riding classes based on their skill level. Campers unable to meet requirements may be placed in an alternate program. Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least one instructor to six campers. *Maximum weight of participants is 225lbs.

Sugar Pine Horseback Riding
All campers at Sugar Pine have one horseback ride during their session (Climb & Ride and Mountain Do! campers have additional rides). For this activity, the maximum weight allowed is 225lbs. These horseback riding experiences will either be a lesson in the arena or a trail ride, depending on the skills and abilities of the camper groups. The Riding Staff at camp determine if a trail ride will take place. To add to the fun, all campers have the chance to help feed and care for the Sugar Pine herd! Note: Grade means level entering in the Fall. Campers in 2nd – 4th grade programs do not participate in archery or high ropes activities.

Take the Aerial Treetop Challenge! Your adventure begins by spending extra time on the Adventure Tower. Develop your belay skills and take the lead as your fellow campers climb on the high ropes course. Take a special trip to the aerial climbing adventure park at Granlibakken near Lake Tahoe. Ascend to your starting tree platform and then travel at your own pace through the forest on an aerial trek that includes a series of suspended bridges, ziplines and exciting climbing challenges. The outdoors is calling and you must go! Start your troop year off with an amazing outdoor get-away to our beautiful Sugar Pine resident camp in the Sierra Foothills. From swimming, creek walking, fort building and the low challenge course, to hiking among the majestic pine trees and singing around the campfire under starry skies. Campers in 4th grade and above can also enjoy archery and the High Ropes Adventure Tower. (NOTE: Horseback riding is not offered during Troop Camp.) Use Sugar Pine as a base camp for your own family day excursions around Calaveras County. Add some adventure with a trip to Moaning Caverns to experience a 1,500’ dual zip line, enjoy an afternoon of kayaking on beautiful Lake Alpine, or have fun on a visit to a nearby Old Western Mining town in Colombia State Park. (Additional fees may apply.) Enjoy special excursions led by camp staff too. And of course, end the day with songs around the campfire, s’mores, and good times with friends and loved ones. Skylark Ranch Camp, Santa Cruz Mountains Minimum age to participate – entering 4th grade Spend a day at our beautiful coastal camp and enjoy some favorite camp activities! Shoot archery, swing through the trees on the high ropes course or take a horseback ride along the winding trails through camp. All activity sessions are 90 minutes. Register for up to four sessions in a day. Parents and siblings are welcome to enroll. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day of adventure with your family! Note: Session times are: 9 – 10:30, 11 – 12:30, 1 – 2:30, 3 – 4:30. Preregistration and separate fee is required for each activity and/or session.
Archery Fee $15/person/session Take aim and try your hand at Archery! Start out with a brief lesson then shoot 2 – 3 rounds and work at getting a Golden Arrow!
High Ropes Fee $35/person/session Test your courage on the Leap of Faith and try out the Double Trouble either solo or with a partner. Both elements are approximately 30' off the ground.
Horseback Trail Ride Fee $55/person/session On this one hour trail ride, you’ll see Skylark Ranch on horseback. This session includes 30 minutes of prep to depart and dismount time.

Volunteer-Run Camps
Volunteer-Run Camps are day and resident camps planned and run by Girl Scout volunteers and held throughout Northern California. These fun, enriching, local camps allow girls to extend their Girl Scout experience into the summer months and often offer leadership opportunities for older girls. CAMP REGISTRATION INFORMATION Each Volunteer-Run Camp manages its own registration process. Refer to the Volunteer-Run Camp Section at camprocks.org/our_camps.html for contact information and to obtain registration details. For further assistance, email volunteercamps@girlscoutsnorcal.org. Note: Girl Scout camps are open to every girl without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability.
VOLUNTEERS ARE CAREFULLY SELECTED Volunteer-Run Camps are all staffed by screened and trained volunteers. Parents can often attend with their daughter in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation. Each camp handles volunteer registration differently. To obtain information about volunteering, contact the camps directly.
HEALTH AND SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY All camps must meet established standards for health and safety, site, program, and personnel, which are set by Girl Scouts of the USA. Resident camps must meet additional state and local government standards. A qualified Health Supervisor is on site at all camps. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency.

Ropes Course Adventures
Choose between three amazing courses, or try them all! On the high ropes or low challenge course at Skylark Ranch (Santa Cruz Mountains) or The Adventure Course at Bothin (Marin), you can develop a strong sense of self, seek challenges, strengthen your cooperation and team building and more! Programs are facilitated by experienced and certified Ropes Course Instructors. The challenge course is for girls in 2nd grade and above and the other courses are for girls in 4th grade and above. Outdoor Program Center Fun
Get outside, learn new skills, and have an adventure with your service unit, troop, or group. Programs are available to all Girl Scouts and non-profit groups at several GSNC outdoor program centers and camps. Trained, experienced staff will set everything up for you and run the entire program from beginning to end. Program options include High Adventure days, archery, night hikes or outdoor camping skills. Fees and details are listed on the website at girlscoutsnorcal.org.
Outdoor Skills
From camp craft skills, fire building and outdoor cooking to wilderness techniques like shelter building, rainy day fires, Leave No Trace and more, it’s outdoor fun for all! Girls and leaders can learn or expand their outdoor skills with GSNorCal’s outdoor progression-based programs, available for Daisy to Adult. Trained staff will facilitate side by side, age appropriate learning opportunities for girls and adults to build confidence and skill for their next big outdoor adventure. High Adventure Special Interest Groups
For older girls, here are three ways to take your outdoor adventure to the next level! Backpacking Interest Group (B.I.G.): Backpack with Girl Scouts and put your back-country camping skills to work! No prior experience is needed. High Adventure Girl Scouts (H.A.G.S.): Brainstorm, research, and choose four high adventure trips for the group each year. Trips take place on weekends. Mariner Girl Scouts: Girls in 8th grade and above can participate in fun adventures involving boating and sailing.

Registration Opens February 1, 2017 Registration officially opens Feb. 1 at 12:01 a.m. Online registrations will be accepted at that time on a first-come, first-served basis. Paper and fax registrations may be submitted prior to Feb. 1; however, placement will not occur until Feb. 1 during regular business hours. Registrations received after Feb. 1 will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Girl Scout camps are open to every girl without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or ability. Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts to register for camp.

Individual girls can earn Fall Sale Rewards or Cookie Rewards to pay for all or part of their camp registration through the Girl Scouts of Northern California Product Sale programs. For the 2016 – 2017 membership year girls can choose a reward card at every recognition level for the Fall and Cookie sale programs.
