girls discover and develop themselves. Within a safe and supportive environment, girls participate in activities that develop skills, build selfesteem, and provide a sense of accomplishment. The programs are intentionally designed to be appropriate to the age, interests, and abilities of the campers. What makes our camps so special is the connection experienced with new friends, rich traditions and history, the support of a trained staff, and outdoor experiences that provide progression, challenge, and fun, all in a place JUST FOR GIRLS!

Our camps are open to all girls, ages 5 -17. You donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to be a Girl Scout to register! COUNCIL RUN CAMPS

Organized resident camps run by full-time and seasonal Council staff members. Girls attend as an individual, not with their troop or parents (except for family camp). Bothin, Skylark Ranch, and Sugar Pine are all Council Run camps.

VOLUNTEER RUN CAMP

Day and resident camps run by volunteers and held at community locations throughout Northern California. Parents can often attend with their daughter in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation.

Bring the family and come to camp for your next vacation! Girl Scouts of Northern California offers affordable options for families to play and camp together at Bothin, Skylark Ranch, and Sugar Pine.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Older girls, 9th grade and up, can have the opportunity to gain Counselor and/or Activity Leader skills through training and hands-on experience in a day or resident camp setting. Many camps offer leadership programs that range from beginning Program and Camp Aide to Counselor-InTraining, Wrangler-In-Training, Adventure Counselor-In-Training and even Guardstart Lifeguard-In-Training. CAMP PROGRAMS AND FEES

SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS AT RESIDENT CAMPS

Registration for all Council Run Camps opens February 1. Online registration is available through camprocks.org. Refer to page 22 for information on the registration process, deposit fees, camp confirmations, and refund instructions. Note: Girl Scout camps are open to every girl without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability. Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts to register for camp.

Girl Scouts of Northern California strives to provide quality, affordable summer camp programs for girls and families. Fees for camps listed in this brochure vary due to paid staff salaries, transportation costs, food service, camp locations, and program fees for special instructors and/or equipment. All fees include meals, transportation (unless noted), a camp patch, supplemental health and accident insurance. A camp t-shirt and photo are also included (except for family camp). Remember, girls may use Fall Sale and/or Cookie Rewards to help pay for camp fees.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

All campers attending resident camp must have had a physical by a Licensed Physician, Physician’s Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner acting under the supervision of a Licensed Physician, within 12 months of their camp session. New This Year: Families may submit online health forms via CampDocs. An invitation will be sent to you upon registration and all health forms are due by June 1st!

Sleeping accommodations vary by camp, program, and assigned living unit. Accommodations may include cabins, dormitories, large canvas platform tents with cots or bunks, tree beds/hammocks, tipis, dome camping tents, or sleeping under the stars, all on mattresses. Refer to each camp description for a list of accommodations at that site or contact happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org with questions.

FOOD SERVICE AND SPECIAL DIETS

Financial assistance to help cover the camp fees (maximum of 80%) is available for girls who live within the Girl Scouts of Northern California Council area. To apply for a financial assistance, refer to the instructions on page 24. For questions about financial assistance, contact financialaid@girlscoutsnorcal.org or call 800-447-4475, ext. 6012.

Meals at resident camp are served family or buffet style. Salad and sidebars are provided, and light snacks are available in the afternoon. A vegetarian option is provided at every meal. Some food allergies, such as gluten-free and lactose intolerance, may require the family to provide specialty food items. Severe food allergies may not be able to be accommodated. CAMP STAFF

GIRLS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Staff members are enthusiastic, talented, and caring individuals who are selected on the basis of their skills, experience, ability to serve as role models, and their genuine desire to work with children. We select staff members who are committed to creating a caring and supportive environment that respects each child as an individual and allows them to feel good about who they are. The health and safety of the campers is always their first priority. Staff members must be at least 18 years old to work directly with the campers. Background checks are completed on all staff. The average ratio of staff to campers is 1:8. In some specialty programs, the ratio may be 1:4. Staff members are recruited from colleges and universities nationwide, local community agencies, Girl Scout referrals, and international cultural exchange organizations. All staff members receive training prior to supervising campers. This includes activity programming, safety, team building, caring for campers, meeting their needs, and much more. Staff members who supervise high adventure activities are required to have additional training and qualifications.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

All camps must meet established standards for health and safety, site maintenance, program and personnel, which are set by state and local governments and Girl Scouts of the USA. In addition, all camps have a qualified Health Supervisor on site. A doctor, or emergency services, is on-call if illness or injury requires medical attention. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency. Refer to the “For Parents” section of the camprocks.org website for additional information on health management practices in our camps.

If your daughter has medical or other special needs and can function with a 1:6 adult-to-camper ratio, we encourage you to work with us to find her the most appropriate camp program. Bothin is especially adaptable for campers with special physical needs. If your daughter needs more support to be successful, please contact our office at 800-447-4475, ext. 2091 or email happycamper@ girlscoutsnorcal.org so that we can help you find the most appropriate program for her abilities or refer you to a special needs camp program in your community.

GROUND AND AIR TRANSPORTATION

Skylark Ranch and Sugar Pine provide charter bus or van transportation from designated locations. Travel to and from pickup points is a family responsibility. Bothin requires families to drop off and pick up campers on site. Refer to each camp description for transportation details. Transportation schedules will be sent in the information packets. CAMP ACCREDITATION

All Council Run camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA is a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and for the delivery of quality programs.

Resident Camp Take Your Summer Adventure to the Next Level! The fun, the friendships, the adventure, the self-discovery—it’s all here at our Council Run resident camps in Northern California. Bothin, Skylark Ranch, and Sugar Pine each offer unique and exciting summer programs for all interests. Whether a girl is a first time or experienced camper, there is something special here for her! All of our camps also offer family camp programs. Overnight sessions for girl programs range from 4 – 13 days. The ratio of unit staff to campers is 1:6 for 5 – 8 year olds and 1:8 for all other camper groups.

BENEFITS OF RESIDENT CAMP

The benefits of a resident camp experience come from the extended time that girls participate in their program. It is a wonderful way for girls to increase their self-reliance and independent living skills by living away from home. Girls also enhance their socialization skills as they live and interact with girls from all over Northern California. The extended time at resident camp also allows for enhanced skill development in activities. With positive, adult role models and a friendly, supportive environment, girls can have a truly enriching summer experience.

THE CAMP PROGRAM

At our resident camps, girls live in a unit with an average of 12 – 24 other campers who have registered for the same program and are of a similar grade in school. The unit participates as a group in activities throughout the session. Unit programs range from a sampling of camp activities, such as in our Sea Stars program at Skylark Ranch, to specialty units such as horseback riding, surfing, caving or theater arts. Campers in specialty programs spend extra time in activities related to their theme. Every unit program, regardless of the focus, includes a variety of general camp activities such as outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, songs, stargazing, hiking or swimming. General activities available vary with each camp. Campfires, theme meals, talent shows, carnivals, and other all-camp events that bring everyone together will be held throughout the session. Note: Campers in 1 – 3rd grade or 2nd – 4th grade programs do not participate in archery or high ropes/climbing activities. This applies to family camp as well.

A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP

Note: Deer Lake resident camp will not operate for the 2015 season due to forest management work. Please see page 7 in this brochure for details.

The daily schedule for each camp will vary according to the unit activities planned. Some activities will be with just the units and some will involve the entire camp. Most days begin with waking up around 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. Lunch is served at midday and dinner is at 6 p.m. Program activities occur in the morning, afternoon, and early evening. “Lights out” for campers varies according to age but is usually between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun! Grades 1 – 12 Grades 1 – 12

Hey girls! Bring your mom, sister, aunt, or other special female adult and come to Bothin for some great summer fun. Enjoy activities led by camp staff while spending quality time together when Bothin transforms into a special retreat just for you! Choose your favorite camp activities and enjoy all that Bothin has to offer. Swimming, dancing, arts and crafts, campfires, hiking, outdoor cooking, the high ropes adventure course, archery, and special themed events are waiting for you. And don’t forget the special Wishing Tree Ceremony at the end of the weekend. It’s a camp tradition you won’t want to miss! Adults must be at least 18 years old. One adult may accompany up to two girls.

Howdy Partners! Time to saddle up and hit the old west for an amazing western style family adventure in the Sierra Foothills. Join the fun when Sugar Pine becomes your very own family dude ranch! Come for a few days or spend the whole week. Enjoy a variety of camp activities such as horseback riding, the adventure tower, swimming, archery, arts and crafts, horseshoes, gold panning, day hikes, games in the Great Hall, or just relax at pool side. Each day holds a special event for families, from our barn-raising hoedown and camp-wide talent night to the annual County Fair Extravaganza! Use Sugar Pine as a base camp for your own family day excursions around Calaveras County. Add some adventure with a trip to Moaning Caverns to experience a 1,500' dual zip line, enjoy an afternoon of kayaking on beautiful Lake Alpine, or have fun on a visit to a nearby Old Western Mining town in Colombia State Park. (Additional fees may apply.) Enjoy special excursions led by camp staff too. And of course, end the day with songs around the campfire, s’mores, and good times with friends and loved ones. It’s fun for the whole family. Yee Haw!

Skylark Ranch Adventure Camp September 4 – September 6 Children under 4 are free.

Fee $165/person

Coastal adventure for the whole family! Come to Skylark Ranch for a weekend and experience all the fun and excitement of this amazing coastal hideaway. Splash at the beach, build sand castles or venture out on your own to explore the beauty of the Coastal Highway. Scale the redwood trees of the high ropes course and experience the thrill of the giant swing or build up your family teamwork with challenges on the low ropes course. From arts and crafts, archery, and day hikes with spectacular views to campfire sing-a-longs under amazing starry skies, there’s something here for every member of the family. Try an activity led by camp staff or just relax and spend time on your own. Special all-camp events will be offered throughout the weekend too. Make it a family adventure and end your summer together!

spectacular high adventure mountain camp just for girls! Tucked away between two beautiful lakes at an elevation of 6,800 feet in the Tahoe National Forest near Donner Summit, Deer Lake has been providing incredible summer adventures for over 55 years.

Deer Lake Dear friends, Here is some important news regarding our beloved Deer Lake camp. We have been working with a professional forester to evaluate the health of the forest at Deer Lake. Unfortunately, the extended drought and presence of bark beetles have taken a toll on this 160 acre High Sierra forest, and it is recommended that we conduct major forest management work at Deer Lake to improve forest health and safety. The lengthy snow season at this high elevation camp means we have limited opportunities to conduct this work without utilizing the summer months. As such, Girl Scouts of Northern California has made the decision to NOT operate Deer Lake for the summer of 2015 in order to concentrate on this important forest management work. We understand that this may be disappointing to many, but we always place the safety of our campers and staff as a top priority, and we feel this is an essential step. Our hope is to reopen Deer Lake in time for its 60th Anniversary season in 2016! In the meantime, we are moving some of our popular Deer Lake camp programs to our other summer camps and also designing Deer Lake style high adventure programs at those camps for girls who want a High Sierra summer camp experience. Transportation

Transportation is NOT provided to or from Bothin. Check in is from 2 – 3 p.m. on the first day of each session. The closing ceremony will start at 11 a.m. on the last day of each camp session. Parents are encouraged to attend and celebrate their daughter’s week of camp. Check out will be directly after the closing ceremony at noon. Campers are expected to be dropped off and picked up during these times.

Grades 1 – 3 Sessions 1B, 2C, 2D Fee $350 Everything you like to do and more! Swim in the pool, have fun at the art barn, dress up in costumes, dig in the garden, have a cookout and sing songs around the campfire with all your new friends. Take some glitter, ribbon and beads and use your imagination to create your own set of fairy wings and wand. Then take a whimsical hike to the Fairy Steps for a special adventure. The magic of camp is waiting for you!

Zoomunji

Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 1B, 2C, 3B Fee $350 Bunnies, Birds and Bears, oh my! What’s your favorite animal? Discover how different animals live and play and have fun in art when you make wild animal masks or amazing critter collages. Hang out with the Bothin chickens and even make your own Bothin Teddy Bear. Learn the Teddy Bear Waltz and song, and dance the days away with all your new friends—bears included!

Sunsational

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 1B, 1C, 2C, 2D, 3A, 3B Fee $350 Sessions 1D, 2A Fee $535 Session 3 Fee $565 Step into the world of summer fun and help create your own camp adventure. You and your group will choose many of your activities throughout the week. So what will it be? Climb the giant cargo net and soar through the trees on the zip line, splash in the pool, get creative at the art barn, try your hand at archery, harvest the garden or cook tasty treats over a campfire. It’s all here for you! You and your new friends will catch some summer fun and have the time of your life!

Animal Lovers

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 2B, 3 Fee$615 Are you crazy about animals? Then it’s off on a safari adventure for you! Head to the Oakland Zoo where you’ll team up for a special expedition in search of unique animals, from amazing Pachyderms to exotic Island Flying Fox Bats. Meet some “hip hop” friends from SaveABunny, a local rabbit rescue organization. Round out your safari with an exciting overnight at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco! Have fun with new friends as you learn about aquatic critters, then fall asleep under the crystal clear tunnels of the Aquarium as thousands of fish, including sharks, skates and bat rays swim overhead. It’s an awesome animal adventure waiting for you!

Monkey Business

Grades 4 – 6 Session 1D Fee $535 Sessions 1A, 2B Fee $565 Have you ever wanted to swing through the trees like a monkey? Here’s your chance to climb, hang, and zip through the air on the exciting Bothin adventure course. Spend time each day challenging yourself on different elements. Will you conquer the triple stack or vertical playpen to reach the sky bench above the trees? Or will you scale the giant cargo net tunnel to get to the zip line? At the end of the day, relax around the campfire and make tasty treats like banana boats with your new friends.

Shoot for the Stars

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 1D, 2A Fee $535 Get ready for an adventure that’s out of this world when you mix archery and astronomy for some real cosmic fun! Take to the range to learn the basics of archery. Explore the night sky through Bothin’s field telescope and go on a night hike and shoot glow-in-the-dark archery. Have a sleep out in the meadow and watch for shooting stars to make a wish on while you stargaze the night away. Amazing!

Supergirl!

Grades 4 – 6 Session 3 Fee $575 Bring your inner heroine to life and be part of something powerful in this Journey inspired adventure! Team up with your fellow Supergirls and work together to overcome exciting challenges on the adventure course. Explore the Rosie the Riveter National Park and discover how these amazing heroines changed history. Then visit the Marine Mammal Center and see more super heroes in action! Become an “Agent of Change” when you tap into your own superpowers, celebrate your strengths and discover how you can make a difference in the world too. Note: Girls will complete most of the Agent of Change Journey.

GO Detectives!

Grades 5 – 7 Session 2A Fee $535 Get Outdoors and use your code-cracking detective skills to solve the mystery! Hike the Bothin Adventure Trail to find the location of hidden messages and secret maps and work together to solve puzzles and riddles. Clues might be anywhere, from the sky bench at the top of the ropes course to a bulls eye at the archery range. Use GPS devices for some “high tech” orienteering to find more answers too. Twists and turns at every corner will keep you and your new friends guessing as you enjoy all the fun of Bothin and the great outdoors too!

Soarin’

Grades 5 – 8 Sessions 1A, 3 Fee $585 Soar over the waves on Lake Merritt and sail through the air on the zip line when you bring two of your favorite camp thrills together! In a one-of-a-kind experience on the water, grab your teammates and paddle a 25 person dragon boat across the lake. Back at camp, work together to anchor your friends as they climb the triple stack dynamic elements of the adventure course. Then try your hand at the Great Zip Line Target Drop – how high will you score? Add swimming, archery, raft building, time with new friends and much more. You’ll be soarin’ through summer fun and adventure in no time!

Artisans

Grades 5 – 8 Session 2A Fee $565 Painting, sculpting, sketching, and many other art mediums will fill this imaginative week at camp. Take a trip to the de Young art museum in San Francisco for inspiration in your self expression. Then let your creative side come to life as you paint a masterpiece, make a mosaic, or glaze bisque ware to fire in a kiln. Make your own template for a custom silk screened shirt too! Display your creations in a special art show for all the camp to see.

Bay Trippers

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 1A, 2B Fee $615 Each day is a new trip around the bay! Ride the ferry to Angel Island and take in the view while flying kites on the beach. Travel through Marin Headlands to Point Bonita Lighthouse and visit the Marine Mammal Center before heading back to camp. Try your hand at stand up paddle boarding on Tomales Bay, and spend the day in the sun at Chicken Ranch Beach along the west shore. Tee off at a local miniature golf course with your friends. The adventure continues as you make a splash at the pool, sleep under the stars, shoot some arrows on the archery range, hang out with your new friends and so much more!

H.1.P.

Grades 6 – 9 Session 1C Fee $350 Hike, Imagine, and Play—your way! In this fun and exciting four-day program just for older girls, you and your group will design your own camp experience. What to do? Get creative in the art barn, swim in the pool, plan a flashmob, take a twilight hike, or maybe hang from the trees on the high ropes adventure course. Try a little bit of everything and just be H.I.P.

Summer Retreat

Or perhaps you will find that an essential ingredient is missing from the kitchen; what will you do? Problem solve like a true chef and make it work!

Culinary Creators

Grades 7 – 10 Session 3 Fee $625 Appetizer to dessert, design a five-course meal with flavors that complement each other and explore the world of fine dining. Discover what goes into running a restaurant or reviewing dishes as a Food Critic. Visit a local restaurant to meet a professional chef. Then turn the dining hall into your group’s own restaurant and help design and prepare a special meal for other campers. Delicious!

On Belay

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 1D, 2A Fee $615 Get “On Belay” when you climb into a week-long adventure challenge on the exciting Bothin adventure course. Spend time everyday setting goals and conquering the elements. Work with your teammates to scale the triple stack, climb the giant cargo net backwards, and fly through the trees on the zip line. Round out your week with an amazing Eco Canopy Tour in Sonoma where you will soar through the treetops on seven zip lines!

Movie Makers

Grades 7 – 10 Session 3 Fee $575 Lights! Camera! Action! Direct and produce your own short camp documentary with an outdoor spin. Will you scale to the top of the ropes course to capture your teammates flying off the zipline? Or be inspired by the birds of Bothin or the view from the tree-top canopy? Grades 4 – 6 Session 1D Fee $555 How does your pizza grow? The Bothin Organic Garden (BOG) is full of all the fresh veggies and herbs you need to make tasty homemade pizzas. Go on a behind the scenes tour of a pizzeria and learn to toss and flip dough in the air. Make a pizza sauce and use toppings and ingredients you harvest to create different thin crust, deep dish and English muffin pizza masterpieces! Express yourself as you decorate a wood-fire pizza board and plant your very own pizza herb garden to take home.

B O T H I N T H E ATR E C O M PA N Y Immerse yourself in the world of performance art! Campers in these programs will explore and practice different aspects of theater production within a program theme. From acting, singing, dancing, and improvisation to make-up, set design, technical support, and more. All groups will work toward a special performance at the end of their session. Campers will also have time to enjoy other fun activities from swimming, outdoor cooking, and arts and crafts, to exploring the organic garden, games, campfires, and much more!

Grades 4 – 6 Session 2A Fee $555 If you’ve ever dreamed of singing with friends combined with great dance moves, this program is for you! Grab the mic and have a blast at a Karaoke party and sing the night away. Put together a performance of your own favorite songs and WOW the crowd at campfire with a production of Bothin’s second annual AirBand show! Off Broadway

Grades 5 – 8 Session 1 Fee $750 Grades 8 – 12 Session 2 Fee$750 It’s Showtime! From auditions to the final bow, work with your group to put on a complete musical production. Participate in daily rehearsals, design sets, create costumes, and learn about all aspects of a Broadway show. Attend a local theatrical performance and learn more about professional stage work too. At the end of your session, present your production to all of camp. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and can join you for a special “cast party” following the performance. Use basic skills and materials along with a lot of imagination and even some teamwork as you take things apart and put them back together in new and interesting ways. Follow your own exploration or work together and perhaps design and build a rope bridge between trees in the challenge course. Soar through the air on the giant swing or traverse the wobbly multi-vine and experience the ultimate challenge of these and more elements among the majestic redwoods. Add to your experience as you spend a day on the adventure course at our Camp Bothin in Marin. Clip in and out as you cross over the creek on the static course or climb to the swinging bench at the top of the dynamic course. Belay on!

Up, Up, and Away

Grades 7 – 10 Sessions 2A, 4A Fee $625 Travel through the redwoods, across sky bridges and zip lines over 400 feet long on a special canopy tour. Enjoy the pristine beauty of the coastal redwood forest from the unique perspective only a sky-high adventure like this can offer. Back at camp, climb the elements of the high ropes course and learn basic climbing knots. Practice your climbing and ropes techniques further at an indoor rock climbing gym where you can boulder and scale the walls. Note: Campers must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs.

Grades 5 – 7 Session 4B Fee $600 Explore the wealth of wildlife roaming the endless Pacific! Your Seafari begins by visiting the Elephant Seals at Año Nuevo State Beach. Then head to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center and check out the dolphins, otters, and other marine mammals before exploring the expansive tide pools at Natural Bridges beach. Your adventure continues when you hop aboard a catamaran and sail through a kelp forest where you may catch a glimpse of sea lions, seals, and sea otters.

Sea Quest

Grades 6 – 9 Sessions 3D, 4B Fee $655 Leave the shoreline for your amazing adventures at sea. Journey up the Santa Cruz coastline on a team challenge sailing regatta with experienced skippers from Pacific Yachting. See the marine animals up close when you paddle through the harbor in your kayak. Take your adventure to the next level when you learn to balance yourself on a stand up paddle board on the ocean! Grades 8 – 12 Session 3A Fee $790 Hang ten and ride the waves as you surf the waters in Santa Cruz. Create a playlist for the trip, pack up the car, and prepare to camp in some of the most scenic parts of California. Have fun cruising in your kayak along the shores of Half Moon Bay. Discover phenomenal tide pools at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and even catch a glimpse of the epic surfing waves of Mavericks. Head north and explore Golden Gate Park in San Francisco or the forts at Marin Headlands before traveling on to Pt. Reyes National Seashore and Tomales Bay for some stand up paddle boarding fun. Oceans Away!

Spend a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and get a fish’s eye view on an underwater adventure as you surface scuba dive in the Great Tide Pool! Skylark Ranch offers quality riding school instruction in a summer camp setting. Our program features beginning to advanced lessons in both English and Western riding. Emphasis in all program levels is on skill development, progression, and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Campers receive a riding assessment on the first day of camp and are placed in riding classes based on their skill level. Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least one instructor to six campers. Campers in all levels: • Have daily riding lessons (unless noted) • Participate in theory lessons • Take part in horse care and management • Participate in the sport of vaulting, which teaches balance while learning to move with a horse • Receive a written evaluation of their skills throughout the session and a ribbon of completion

Choose the level that’s right for you...

Finding the correct riding program for your daughter is important not only for the quality of her program but for her own safety. To help you select the program that would best suit your daughter, review the levels of the Equestrian Programs offered and their descriptions. ALL skills listed for the chosen style of riding need to be met consistently to qualify for that riding program. Riding time varies with each program and lessons are more in depth as riding levels advance.

Vaulting

Gymnastics on horseback! This is sure to bring out the stunt rider in you and help develop balance and riding position. Practice your moves on a barrel horse first. Then, with an assisted mount, show off your skills on horseback!

Saddle Sampler

(Level 1: English OR Western) Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 1B, 3B, 3C Fee $470 Take part in two riding lessons, a vaulting lesson, and learn about how to take care of your horse! Campers will get to try Western OR English styles.

Saddle & Paddle

(Level 2: English OR Western) Grades 6 – 12 Session 4B Fee $645 The best of both worlds! Climb in the saddle and participate in 1 arena, 1 trail and 1 vaulting lesson. Learn the basics or enhance the skills you already have in horseback riding. Mount Up

R I D I N G

All campers at Sugar Pine have one horseback ride during their session (Climb & Ride and Mountain Do! campers have additional rides). For this activity, the maximum weight allowed is 225lbs. These horseback riding experiences will either be a lesson in the arena or a trail ride, depending on the skills and abilities of the camper groups. The Riding Staff at camp determine if a trail ride will take place. To add to the fun, all campers have the chance to help feed and care for the Sugar Pine herd!

Grades 2 – 4 Sessions 1A, 1B, 3D Fee $360 A jamboree of summer fun just for you! In this special four-day program, you can get a real taste of camp life. Swim in the pool, have a cookout and make tasty treats, get creative with crafts, take a special twilight hike, and sing songs under starry, starry skies. Have a Country dance party and jam with your new camp friends too!

Pine Pixies

Grades 2 – 4 Session 3C Fee $360 Step into the enchanting world of make-believe when you dress up in costumes, act out fairytales, have fun with face paint, and find your own pixie power. Explore the creek and spend your days splashing at the pool. Design a whimsical flower crown to wear to a tea party under the Sugar Pine trees. Host a Pixie Party for your new camp friends and dance under the twinkle of the stars!

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 2A, 3A Fee $545 There’s nothing better than camping out under the stars. Have fun with night time games from flashlight tag to glow in the dark archery. Take a twilight hike then have a sleep-in breakfast! Plan a special stargazing camp-out and explore the night sky for brilliant constellations and shooting stars. Then create a dreamboat to launch in the creek and carry your special wishes. Enjoy all of the daytime fun of Sugar Pine too!

Splash Mob!

Grades 4 – 6 Sessions 2B, 3A Fee $545 Splash into summer fun—Sugar Pine style! A sparkling pool, pool parties, creak stompin’, and a hike to a nearby Alpine lake are part of the fun waiting for you. Turn up the music and practice your dance moves for a surprise flash mob for the whole camp. Invite your friends to a glow in the dark dance party in the Great Hall. Back at the pool, play inner tube polo, complete the noodle maze, and build team rafts to paddle and splash around.

Grades 5 – 7 Session 2A, 3A Fee $580 All that glitters, sparkles, and shines is waiting for you! Start your gold rush adventure with a trip to Mercer Caverns where you’ll tour the cave and mine for gems like emeralds and moon stones in a mining sluice. Stake your claim at Columbia State Park, a living restored gold rush town, and learn to pan for gold. Back at camp, head to the Art Barn to create a piece of jewelry with the treasure you find. Round out your gold rush days with an authentic steam locomotive train ride through the beautiful Gold Country.

Spend extra time at the archery range, make your own targets, and learn about fletching as you prepare for the Great Tri-Archery Adventure! Grades 7 – 12 Session 2A Fee $665 An underground adventure awaits you! Enter the crystal-filled caves at Mercer Caverns to see a beautiful subterranean wonderland. On this spelunking trek, view amazing calcite formations, rootsicles and stalactites. Then take a swim in an underground cave at Natural Bridges State Park. The adventure continues when you rappel 16 stories down in a cave at Moaning Caverns and crawl through tunnels on a guided spelunking tour. Back on the surface, you and your camp friends will enjoy all the fun Sugar Pine has to offer. Note: Campers must be at least 12 years old, at least 4 feet tall and weigh a minimum of 100 lbs. Grades 7 – 12 Sessions 2B, 3A Fee $665 Grab a paddle and hit the water for some lake and river fun. Enjoy a kayak tour on the beautiful waters of Lake Alpine. Then take on the challenge of some exciting Class 4 rapids on a half-day rafting tour on the Stanislaus River, passing some of the biggest trees you’ll ever see—the Giant Sequoias. Keep your adventure going when you spend extra time on the Adventure Tower and build your own signature raft with your new camp friends. Paddle on! Note: Campers in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water. Grades 8 – 12 Session 3B Fee $750 How adventurous are you? Grab your paddle and become part of a team as you spend 2 days rafting on the Stanislaus River with qualified, experienced guides. Grades 8 – 12 Session 2 Fee $815 From the Gold Country foothills to the High Sierra, get ready for an amazing road trip adventure! Start your journey at beautiful Ebbett’s Pass and connect to the epic Pacific Crest Trail where you’ll take a scenic day hike. Relax overnight at Grover Hot Springs, before hitting the road for a day on the beach at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. The adventure continues as you take to the treetop adventure park at Granlibakken for an amazing ropes course experience. Then raft your way back towards Sugar Pine on a day long trip down the American River. With your friends by your side, you’ll spend a night at Indian Grinding Rock State Park and check out the Miwok village. The only rule on the trip: keep calm and drive on!

GO Wild!

Grades 5 – 8 Sessions 2A, 3A Fee $545 Explore the WILD side of Sugar Pine! Learn advanced wilderness skills and practice the art of lashing to build geodome forts for overnights. Then cross the camp creek and put your skills to work as you navigate using a map and compass, set-up a backwoods campsite, cook over a fire and see if you have what it takes! Learn to timber toss to safely store your food, build an outdoor sauna and create a team monument for your outback camp. The thrill of the wilderness is waiting for you!

Alpine Adventure

Grades 7 – 12 Sessions 1, 3B Fee $635 Let the adventure begin! Challenge yourself with extra time on our high ropes Adventure Tower. Experience the fun and challenge of the vertical playpen, the climbing wall, or the horizontal ladder and soar through the air on the zip line. Take your Alpine Adventure to another level by flying across a canyon on a duel 1,500-foot zip line at Moaning Caverns. Your adventure continues when you head out on a special lake trip, such as swimming in an underground cave at Natural Bridges or swimming to the islands at Lake Utica. Awesome! Note: Campers must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs.

Mentor younger girls in a camp setting as you build skills toward becoming a camp counselor or lifeguard. Go Green and Online! – Online registrations are processed faster than paper or FAX. Online payments will only be processed if the camper is placed in a program. Paper and FAX payments will be processed when received in the office, regardless of placement status. Paper registration forms can be found on CampRocks.org.

Do not sign up for multiple camp programs during the same session time in more than one camp. Deposits are not refundable once a camp registration has been confirmed.

If your 1st choice program is full, sign-up on the wait list. Programs often open up due to wait list demand.

Be sure to read the refund information carefully.

If registering by paper, remember to SIGN the registration form in all required places AND use blue or black ink.

Only register via one method—online OR paper (mail, in-person or FAX). Registering by multiple methods does not give you a better chance of getting into a program and will result in multiple non-refundable deposit payments.

WHEN TO REGISTER

Registration officially opens February 1 at 12:01 a.m. Online registrations will be accepted at that time on a first-come, firstserved basis. Paper and fax registrations may be submitted prior to February 1; however, placement will not occur until February 1 during regular business hours. When more registrations have been received on February 1 than space available, campers will be placed on a wait list for their first choice and confirmed in an alternate choice if listed and space is available. Registrations received after February 1 will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

HOW TO REGISTER

There are two ways to register for camp:

1. Online at CampRocks.org—this option requires a credit card authorization and at least a $100 for each girl only session and/or a $50 deposit/person for Family Camp programs. • On the website, refer to the “Register” section. Follow the

link to register online.

• If space is available in the program, your credit card/debit

card payment will be processed immediately and you will be confirmed in the program.

• If space is not available, you may choose to be placed on a

wait list and then try registering for another program. Your credit card/debit card will not be charged if you elect to be placed on a wait list. If space becomes available, an email notification will be sent.

Note: Online registration uses enhanced security features for secure transactions. Our service provider is Security Metrics Certified, meeting the Payment Card Industry security standards (PCI).

2. By mail, FAX or submit in person—download the registration form on camprocks.org. Send completed registration form(s) and at least the required deposit of $100 for each girl only session and/or a $50 deposit/ person for Family Camp programs to: Girl Scouts of Northern California 1310 South Bascom Avenue San Jose, CA 95128 Attn: Camp Registration FAX: 1-408-287-8025 Important: Do not include your credit card number when faxing a registration form. We will contact you by telephone to request your credit card information. Your registration will not be entered until your credit card information has been received and is processed. Placement is not guaranteed. A full refund will be given if a camper is not confirmed in any program.

PLEASE NOTE • Telephone and email registrations are not accepted. • The downloadable camp registration form on the website

allows you to register for up to two sessions of camp per form. To sign up for multiple camp sessions online, follow the instructions in the Register Now section of the website.

• To register two campers for the same program, they must

both meet the age requirements for that program. List them as Camper Buddies on each other’s online or paper registration form. For paper or FAX registrations, submit them together or mail them in the same envelope. Placement with a buddy is not guaranteed. A maximum of two names together will be accepted.

• An additional, non-refundable $15 registration fee will apply for all girls who are not currently Girl Scouts. • An additional $50 fee will apply for all girls living outside the Girl Scouts of Northern California jurisdiction. This fee covers a portion of the indirect costs relating to camp operations, which are subsidized by the Council. • Family Camp programs require a non-refundable deposit of $50/person at the time of registration. • A current health exam (within 12 months of camp) by a

Licensed Physician, Physicians Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner acting under the supervision of a Licensed Physician is required for attendance at resident camp. This does not apply to Family Camp programs.

DEPOSITS

The deposit will not be refunded after camp registration is confirmed. Nonrefundable deposits are not transferable to another program or camper. For questions on this policy, contact the Council Member Services Department.

CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION

Camp registrations are considered confirmed once they are placed in the Girl Scout computer system regardless of whether a confirmation notice has been received. A camper information packet with important pre-camp details will be sent approximately three weeks after the camp registration has been confirmed and no sooner than February 15. If no email address is provided, the information packet will be mailed. NEW THIS YEAR: Health forms can be submitted online prior to camp via CampDoc. Information will be sent with the camper information packet. They must be signed by a medical professional and completed by June 1.

PAYMENT OF FEES

The balance of the camp fee is due three weeks before the opening day of the confirmed camp session. The total camp fee may be paid at any time prior, including at the time of registration. Online payments may be made by credit card or debit card only. Payments may also be made by mail or in person by check, money order, credit card, or debit card, or GSNorCal Cookie/Fall Sales Rewards card. A $35 service charge will be made on all returned checks. Note: A camper will be canceled from a program if payment is not received by the three week due date. If your registration is canceled, you will be sent a notification and all fees paid up to that point are non-refundable.

CANCELLATIONS

To cancel a registration or a wait list spot, send an email or written notification to happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org or FAX to 1-408-287-8025. To receive a refund of the registration fees paid less the deposit, a notice of cancellation must be received at least three weeks prior to the first day of the camp session for which the cancellation is being made.

REFUND POLICY Full refund: If your selected camp session(s) is full

and no alternative can be found or if the financial aid amount requested is not fully granted, the total amount paid will be refunded.

Partial refund: The balance of the camp fee, less

deposit, will be refunded only if:

1. Family plans change and the camper can no longer attend. In this case, written notification must be received three weeks before the opening date of the confirmed camp session; 2. The camper does not attend due to illness or injury. A letter from a physician must accompany the refund request; 3. The camper is sent home from camp due to illness or injury occurring at camp. Refunds are prorated in such cases and will not be made if the camper attends more than half of the camp session and will be made only at the written request of the parent/guardian. Note: No refunds will be made if the camper does not attend her camp session or leaves early for any other reason, even if her space is filled by another participant. Make refund requests in writing no later than August 31, 2015 to the Girl Scouts of Northern California.

Registration Information Continued FALL+ COOKIE REWARDS = CAMP!

Girls can earn Fall Sale Rewards or Cookie Rewards to pay for all or part of their camp registration through the Girl Scouts of Northern California Product Sale programs. Reference the Fall Sale and Cookie Sale order cards for the details and have your Girl Scout talk with her troop regarding their girl and troop rewards plan choice. The girl and troop rewards plan choice is a decision made by the girls for the entire troop.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Any girl who lives within Girl Scouts of Northern California’s jurisdiction is eligible to apply for financial help to attend Girl Scout camps in Northern California. Girls who live outside of this Council must contact their local Girl Scout Council for financial aid information. Girls must be registered Girl Scouts by April 15. DEADLINE: Financial Aid requests for Council must be submitted no later than May 15. Financial aid decisions are not made until camp placement has been confirmed. Families may request financial assistance for one session of any resident camp OR no more than two sessions of a Volunteer Run day camp. All information is confidential. To apply for financial aid:

• Complete the camp registration process either online or by submitting a paper/FAX registration form found on camprocks.org.

Camp Care Packages

Everyone LOVES mail at camp! Surprise your camper with a Camp Care Kit! Choose from three care packages to be delivered to your camper mid camp session. Kits range from $25 – $40 and can be easily purchased through the camp registration process. Camp Kits can be purchased up to three weeks prior to your camper’s session. • Complete the financial aid form in this brochure or on the website at camprocks.org. NOTE: The camp registration form and financial aid form are two separate forms and are processed separately. • List the name of camp, program, and fee for which assistance

is being requested on the financial aid form.

• Girls or families must pay at least the deposit for their camp

session. Should the financial aid amount requested not be fully granted and applicant chooses to cancel their registration, a refund of the deposit will be allowed. In such case, a refund request must be submitted in writing by August 31.

• Financial aid is based on need and this must be clearly demonstrated on the form. The Council takes into account income level, family size, and a detailed explanation of circumstances when granting financial assistance. • Documentation that verifies income level must be provided with the form (i.e. paycheck stub, tax return, unemployment check receipt, etc.) • Incomplete forms or those missing proof of income will

not be reviewed.

Bring the whole family to the mountains for a day or a weekend and partner with us to prepare the resident camps for the summer camp season. There is no fee. One day work parties include lunch. Weekend work parties include free camping and meals and offer a great opportunity for a weekend getaway that combines service work with free time to play, explore or relax. All age groups are welcome! Projects at the camps may include putting up platform tents, opening up and cleaning out buildings from the winter, cleaning bathrooms, clearing trails, clearing brush and debris, painting, etc. Housing will be in seasonal shelters, buildings or your own family tent. CAMP STAFF VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Run Camps Volunteer Run Camps are day and resident camps planned and run by Girl Scout volunteers and held throughout Northern California. These fun, enriching, local camps allow girls to extend their Girl Scout experience into the summer months and often offer leadership opportunities for older girls.

Volunteer Run Camps are all staffed by screened and trained volunteers. Parents can often attend with their daughter in exchange for helping in different areas of the camp operation. Each camp handles volunteer registration differently. To obtain information about volunteering, contact the camps directly.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

All camps must meet established standards for health and safety, site, program, and personnel, which are set by Girl Scouts of the USA. Resident camps must meet additional state and local government standards. A qualified Health Supervisor is on site at all camps. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency.

Ropes Course Adventures

Choose between three amazing courses, or try them all! On the high ropes or low challenge course at Skylark Ranch (Santa Cruz Mountains) or The Adventure Course at Bothin (Marin) you can develop a strong sense of self, seek challenges, strengthen your cooperation and team building and more! Programs are facilitated by experienced and certified Ropes Course Instructors. The challenge course is for girls in 2nd grade and above and the other two high courses are for girls in 4th grade and above. For fees and details visit camprocks.org.

The Bothin Program Center in Marin

Get outside, learn new skills, and have an adventure with your service unit, troop, or group. Programs are available to all Girl Scouts and non-profit groups. Trained, experienced staff will set everything up for you and run the entire program from beginning to end. Programs include everything from archery, arts and crafts, night hikes, outdoor cooking, hands-on science or ecology activities to guided experience in the Bothin Organic Garden! Family GO Festival

March 28, 2015 at Bothin in Marin Calling all Girl Scout families and friends, let’s GET OUTDOORS! Join us for a fun-filled festival all about outdoor activities and adventures you can do with your family around the Bay Area. Visit booths filled with community partners and vendors who will share resources for your next outdoor adventure. Enjoy outdoor skills activities including archery, nature hikes, games, and more. Music, food trucks, and a chance to try the zip line will round out your family festival fun. Let’s GO! Note: The Festival is free. However there is a fee for the zip line and pre-registration is required through the Activity Finder on girlscoutsnorcal.org. Minimum grade for the zip line is 4th.

Every year, Girl Scouts of Northern California offers a variety of weekend outdoor adventures for girls of all ages. From camping and outdoor skills events to kayaking, back packing, white water rafting, zip-line canopy tours and more. Note these special school year programs: S’mores and More A full day of outdoor fun for Brownies, Juniors and Leaders to learn camp craft skills like knots, lashing, fire building, orienteering, outdoor safety and more! High Adventure Days Groups participate on high ropes elements that challenge both individual and team skills. TEQUE: Trailblazers-Enthusiastic-Quest-For-Unsurpassed-Efficiency! April 10 – 12, 2015 Senior and Ambassador Troops test their camping skills in the ultimate outdoor skills competition! Individual Girl Scouts are welcome to sign up and join others to create their own troop for the weekend.
