The build is on!
April 2011
‘ The Wire’ (Reminders, information and important dates) NEW BUILD – The new school building has really started to progress over Easter and a steel structure is starting to rise from the site of the old school at a rapid pace. The front section of the school has already been completed; this area will comprise of a state of the art Learning Resource Centre, Sixth Form learning areas, office space and our entrance forum. The next phase of the build should see technology provision emerge, at the right of the school site, over the next few weeks and then work will begin on our zoned learning areas for different curriculum areas such as S c i e n c e , M a t h s , I C T, E n g l i s h , Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages. The new build is on schedule to be completed by February of next year.
ACADEMY NEWS – Following the Governors meeting on Thursday 7 April and after a period of consultation we have decided to look into conversion to Academy status from September 2011. There were very positive meetings held with all staff, parents and the wider community as well as Mr Sprakes speaking to students in assembly about the potential change. Feedback to the consultation was very positive and supportive. More information on the potential changes to Academy Status will be provided over the next term. Thanks to everyone for their continuing support. STUDENT HEALTH CENTRE Dear Parents This is to inform you about a new facility available to all students at Campsmount Technology College. A proposed Health Clinic will run from 2.30pm – 4.30pm on Wednesdays and will operate as a drop in session for students to self refer, it will also take referrals from staff for help and support for the student around health issues. The service will offer advice from professionals working in collaboration with the community and college setting. Inclusive of this will be Contraception & Sexual Health advice from nurses based at East Laith Gate House, Doncaster to offer advice and support to any student on a wide range of health issues including sexual health. Alongside this will be specialist workers from Smoking Cessation and Better Deal where students can access support and advice around stop smoking, drugs and alcohol. All health professionals provide the same level of confidentiality that would be guaranteed by their own doctors and medical teams working within the policies guidelines that protect the client.
Students will have presentations in their assemblies to inform them of the range and scope of the Health Clinic. Please note this is not a first aid service and will not replace the trained firstaid team that operates in school. If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact me in college. Yours sincerely Andrew Sprakes

Dubai Netball Tour 2011 Wow what an amazing trip we have just offered 20 students at Campsmount Technology College. The U14 and U17 CTC Netball Squads have just returned from an awesome week in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where they played a variety of private British Schools. The girls played some fantastic Netball, demonstrating their hard work and determination to succeed in all matches played. It was regularly commented on how impeccable our students behaviour was in public and that they were a credit to our school. What a fantastic cultural experience we have provided our students with, along with equipping them with memories which I am confident will last a lifetime............Mrs Knowland is very proud. Well done girls from all of the Dubai Staff Team! SSAT Digital Leaders’ Conference On 29th March some of our aspiring digital leaders took part in this year’s SSAT Digital Leaders conference at Birmingham Science Park. Students listened to some inspirational examples of how Students in other schools have worked with their teachers to help embed ICT further into their teaching and learning. Students were keen to see how they can work with teachers at Campsmount and assist them in creating even more stimulating and inspiring teaching and learning resources. Exciting times ahead! Spain Football Tour During the recent Easter break teachers and students embarked on Campsmount’s 9th annual football tour. This year saw a return to Barcelona, after an absence of five years. The weather this year was up there with the best we’ve ever experienced on tour, a bit warm for football! We took three boy’s squads and one girl’s squad, fifty students in total. All the students played some excellent football against some top quality Spanish opposition. With a mixture of wins, draws and losses across the twelve fixtures all the players showed improvements both in their own individual games and collectively as a team. A valuable lesson was also learnt in the differing styles of play between Spanish and English football. After some hard fought games students relaxed on the beach followed by a three-course meal in some of the local restaurants. A tour round the Nou Camp followed by a visit to Las Ramblas enabled the students to spend some money on gifts etc. We also visited Port Aventura for a stomachchurning day at Spain’s premier theme park. As is always the case, our students conducted themselves superbly throughout the tour and couldn’t have represented Campsmount in any better light. My thanks must go to the students for this and for making this year’s another successful tour. I would also like to take this opportunity to also thank the staff not only for giving up their Easter break but also for the hard work they’ve put in over the past year preparing for the tour. Mr. A King DAVID MILLWARD Sadly, over the Easter break David Millward, our former Head of Music and Head of Year, passed away. David was an outstanding teacher and an inspiration to many. I know that you will join me in passing on our sincere condolences to his family. Andrew Sprakes Headteacher
