BISCUITS ARE ON THE RISE It’s the bread of the South and a staple on our tables. Biscuits are very comforting, and come in all sizes, shapes, and personalities. We sought out Durant’s best fast-food breakfast biscuits to give you the bread and butter (and sometimes jelly) of Southern comfort food. CARL’S JR. “You don’t even need jelly.” “My only complaint was that I could taste the baking soda.” “Too doughy, but good flavor!”

WHATABURGER “Oh wow!” “It’s just you and the biscuit.” “Fluffy and not too messy.”

MCDONALD’S REGULAR “Golden like the arches.” “Tastes like margarin.” “No flavor, but very soft texture.”

MCDONALD’S JALAPEÑO “Bursting cheese niblets.” “Not just a biscuit.” “A little dry, but good texture.” By Maddison Poteet

HEAR ME OUT Scott Gaines

Scott Gaines works for KICKS 101.5 in Atlanta, GA. Scott gets to vote for the artists in the CMAs and ACMs which means he is exposed to many new artists. This is his top 5 new country hit list.

1. Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You”

2. Maren Morris’s “I

Could Use a Love Song” 3. Carly Pearce’s “Every Little Thing” 4. Jon Pardi’s “California Sunrise” 5. Midland’s “Drinking Problem”

Jayson “Jay” King

Jason “Fuzzy“ Smith

I’ve done a vast amount of radio work since I arrived here at U92 such as hosting Double Play, engineering and producing shows, creating commercials and liners, getting the station FCC compliant, and DJ’ing campus events.

Fuzzy graduated from Southeastern with a BA in Broadcasting. He books concerts for local artists. Fuzzy’s most impressed by R&B artists Chance the Rapper and SoMo. Fuzzy loves their raw talent that is rare in the genre where singers are often more producer than artist.

Right now, I’m listening to 311’s new album Mosaic.

He was born in the music industry with family ties dating back to the 40‘s. When asked about his go to shower song, he replied, ”Depends on my mood, but a recent song was Dustin Perkin’s “Guy” that he listened to nonstop for 5 days everywhere including the shower.

I’ve attended a handful of concerts this year, such as Earth, Wind & Fire, John Mayer, 311 (twice), Blink-182 (twice) and Metallica. Vibes are what make a concert great. The band may be fantastic, but the fans make the atmosphere special.

BREATHE

offee In The Morning Coffee is an essential part of the dreaded morning routine. Without it, the day drags on and our bodies slowly deteriorate from lack of sleep and the absence of caffeinated energy! There is a simple solution to this dilemma, and that is waking up about 10 minutes earlier and making a much-needed trip to Hot Shots Coffee off University Blvd.! They have everything from the feisty Americano (hot water and a stout shot of espresso) to the classic and much loved pumpkin spice latte (Disclaimer: must be wearing Ugg boots to purchase.) Whether you prefer coffee that hits you in the face, or coffee that dances around on your taste buds (or a combination of both), Hot Shots can deliver! If you have absolutely no clue as to what coffee you like, but frequently experience early morning drag, here are a few Hot Shots employee favorites! Photo courtesy Hot Shots

BREATHE

The Wild Card Peyton is an SE student who loves adventure and is an expert in experimentation. Her current crave is a Lavender Honey Americano with cream. Sounds like a party in my mouth!

The OG The Original Gabbie is an SE student who enjoys bold flavors. Her Hot Shot favorite is a Coconut Americano on ice. Sounds pretty cool to me!

The Grad Former SE student Ashleigh recommends an Americano with cream and a pump of marshmallow and caramel. This drink isn’t too strong, isn’t too sweet, and it’ll hit the spot just right! By Ieysha Cheney

“WE TAKE ON EVERY MATCH AS A NEW CHALLENGE” SE VOLLEYBALL The SE Woman’s Volleyball Team is an amazing group of girls with some killer moves! I LOVE watching the volleyball matches, and you should check them out too! I caught up with Coach Barry, and she gave me some great insight on the team. Since last year (and throughout this season) the team gained phenomenal freshman players who bring their talent and drive to the court. So far, the season has been up and down, but Coach Barry say that the girls “take on every match as a new challenge,” so I’m sure we will see great things in the future! Our biggest competitors this season, according to Coach Barry, are Arkansas Tech and Harding University. These teams are big and bad, but as long as our girls stay consistent and stick with what works for them, then they will surely be victorious! All of this is great, but I’m sure you’re curious about who you should be watching out there! Coach Barry named some players that kill on the court, and do everything to keep the team energized and excited! Keep your eyes on #2, Alissa Benson, #1 Caitlyn Cosby, #9 Abby Jameson, #4 Arianna Baker, and #6 Grace Shehadeh at the next volleyball game. Photo courtesy of gosoutheastern.com

FALL SCENTS

Staff photo by Ashlee Carr

Keep it local and go to the Copper Kettle to find some rad scents this season! Students are allowed to have a light powered wax burner and oil diffusers in the dorms. Here are store owners Tammy Cross and Brenda Shipman’s current favorite fall aromas. Fireside Think “lake camping by the fire as the aroma of marshmallows envelope you in a cozy blanket.” Cinnamon Chia This smells exactly like red hot candy and is perfect for bringing red to the fall season. Frasier Fur Bring the outdoors in with the forest smell, perfect for the ladies or gentlemen who are feeling a little extra adventurous! Hot Toddy I fell in love with this sweeter scent that is reminiSCENT of butterscotch candies. Inhale the magic y’all. Oatmeal Cookie This is the perfect scent for when you are almost to fall break and seriously in need of momma’s homemade cookies. Let this smell sink in and push through those midterms!
