IN THIS ISSUE EDITORS NOTE Nearing the end of 1964, American recording artist Sam Cooke sang of the change that was inevitably going to come. Woven through his lyrics are the histories of African Americans bereaved of the chance to tell their stories.

WHAT IS YOUR COMFORT FOOD? C e r e a l i s m y g o t o w h e t h e r i t ’s F r o s t e d Flakes, Fruity Pebbles, or Captain Crunch. IF YOU WERE TO EVER GET A TATTOO, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY? Spaghetti with Olive Oil, Garlic and Basil This delicacy was truly a treat. If you do not eat meat, or even if you simply appreciate meals that don’t feel like bricks in your stomach, this is the spaghetti for you! With beautiful bits of fresh garlic and a complimentary sauce made with olive oil, this dish is sure to impress if you are looking for something light. (As suggested by pairing professionals, a sweet, bubbly glass of Moscato would pair perfectly with this light meal. Its sweetness also makes it a great drink to end the night).
Spaghetti All Panna This dish was a big surprise! First of all, S-A-P is an offmenu item, but the staff at Roma would be glad to make it for you. Alla Pana sauce is Spaghetti sauce and Alfredo sauce mixed together, and the results are amazing! This dish had the creamiest, dreamiest sauce imaginable, and it tasted amazing! When ordering, I would ask to add shrimp or chicken to the spaghetti, because it is phenomenal! (A rich glass of Merlot is suggested for this hearty, creamy dish. The dark red wine is said to go perfectly with the pale pink sauce).
Spaghetti with Meatballs This is the classic! Exactly as seen in the Disney movie, this dish is definitely worth barking about! For starters, the meatballs are juicy, tender, and have a wonderful flavor! Then, when you add the fresh, tangy tomato sauce, everything comes together and you’re transported to Italy! (This classic plate is said to pair nicely with a glass of Cabernet. This mixed wine, not at rich as the Merlot, but not as sweet as the Moscato, will balance out the freshness of that great sauce and the heartiness of those tender meatballs). By Ieysha Cheney

Reel Em’ In!
Everyone knows what to buy women for Valentine’s Day... the classics! Adidas Super Star Shoes with the shell-toe, chenille sweaters, and Kendra Scott jewelry. But what do you get for the guys? No one ever knows! Every woman who has been in a relationship has asked her man what he wants, and they always get the same answer! “Uhh…I don’t know.” This answer is not going to “fly” this year! “Hook” your man (or woman... we love fishing too) up with some sweet flyfishing gear! Even if fishing isn’t really your forte, it might be fun to experiment with something other than the boring dinner date or movie night. So head north to the Blue River Public Fishing Area just off Highway 78 near Tishomingo. It’s a 30 minute drive and the river gives up beautiful rainbow trout.

Black History Month February is Black History Month. A month dedicated to honoring and remembering the achievements and successes accomplished by some of the most influential people of all time. Much of African American culture was preserved through music, and today, I will share with you my 6 favorite African American artists. There are hundreds of other artists that could have been included in this list, and they all deserve to be remembered! So, this month, take some time to explore the sounds of African American musicians, new and old!
Louis Armstrong Armstrong is recognized as one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. The sweet sounds of his trumpet and the swingin’ music he composed lives on to this day, and plays in jazz houses around the country.
Whitney Houston Whitney will always love you! In 2009, she was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most awarded female of all time. In fact, her song “I Will Always Love You” is the 6th best-selling single WORLDWIDE!
Stevie Wonder Stevie Wonder is arguably one of the most inspirational musicians of all time. He never let his blindness get in the way of his passion, and he has written some of the most beautiful songs ever. Not to mention his piano skills! Stevie definitely is a Wonder!
Tina Turner Tina sings some of my all-time favorite 80’s songs! Her hair, her vibe, her style, everything about Tina was on the edge! Some of my favorite Tina Turner jams are “Proud Mary” and ”What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix is recognized as the most influential electric guitarists of all time! He was one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century, even though his career only spanned only 4 years!
Michael Jackson The King of Pop! Ow! Michael Jackson was a frontrunner in creating pop culture. His songs have been popular since the day they came out, and they continue to be popular today! By Ieysha Cheney

oses Are Boring Roses are a cultural phenomenon. They have infiltrated every ounce of romance that still exists in our world, and all they have given us is bad rock music and pricked fingers. Instead of putting forth minimal effort in an attempt to flatter your significant other, go beyond the cliches. In 2018, we welcome back things like the boombox scene from “Say Anything.” To save face and money, check out these 3 unconventional Valentine’s Day flowers from Wal-Mart. (They start at $5, no excuses, lads.) By Ashlee Carr

Carnations Carnations represent pure love and good luck. This beautiful flower is the perfect compliment to a beautiful lady. PS carnations are edible, so we’re serving a dual purpose with this one. (Not that we recommend eating carnations...)
Daisies Perhaps one of the most romantic men in literary history, Jay Gatsby, was in love with a woman by this same name. A symbol of youthfulness, beauty, and cheerfulness, daisies represent vibrancy in every sense.
Tulips Most strongly associated with true love and royalty, get tulips to make your girl feel like a queen this Valentine’s Day. Fun fact: in the 1600’s, tulips cost more than the average house.

PROFESSOR, PUPPET MASTER, FILM GURU- CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I am Professor Dell McLain and I have been teaching at SOSU for over a decade. I received my MFA from the University of New Orleans and my BA from Southeastern. I am a recipient of the Oklahoma College Theatre Teacher of the Year Award, and have been inducted three times into the Whose Who Among American Teachers. WHAT KIND OF CONTENT IS PLAYED ON THE SE RADIO STATION, U92 FM? We play pop and contemporary music with a variety of hits. Additionally, we have shows by students. We have a pop quiz on every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday @ 6 p.m. Senior Broadcasting majors Jay King and Brandon Green do a sports show called Double Play. We welcome new students with interesting ideas for shows. HOW DO YOU ENVISION THE FUTURE OF THE PROGRAM? We hope to continue with radio enhancements. Also, we hope to utilize social media and YouTube to drive traffic to other media content. From my experiences at college conferences, it is apparent Southeastern has an edge on other programs in our use of technology. WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ON AIR SLIPUP? Early on about 6 years ago, we did the canned dog food challenge. We ate dog food on camera... that was a moment. WHY IS IT ESSENTIAL THAT SOUTHEASTERN STUDENTS GET PLUGGED INTO THE RADIO STATION? The Southeastern radio station should be a sense of enormous pleasure and information. It is a teaching tool, along with a place of entertainment. By Ashlee Carr

Valentine’s Day Do’s
For The Average-Broke-College-Kid
We all know that February is all about love, but what do you do when you can’t go out and buy those $20 roses and $15 chocolates? We’ve all been there. The Valentine’s Day Downs... You want to show your friends, family, or significant other that you care, but you’re downright broke! Well I’ve got news for you! Here are a few relatively free ideas that will surely spread the love! Stargazing Bring your friends (at least one who has a truck) and lay out among the stars late one night! Besides blankets and pillows, maybe provide some cheap snacks, and make some quality memories underneath the sky. Game Night If you are a lover of cards and board-games (like myself) then planning a game night is right up your alley! All you need is a few games to play, and some great friends to play with. Karaoke This one is fun and easy! There are plenty of apps dedicated to making Karaoke nights a blast! So get your suave friends together and serenade the night away! (Just make sure to stop before quite hours... please...)
Scavenger Hunt This one may sound a little wild. But, with the right people to do it with, scavenger hunts can be super fun! Head into out local Walmart with a list of items to find. Make up some rules, and you’re good to go! Thrift Shopping While this is something you can do on any day, it would be a cool date or group idea if you add a few extra rules. Find an outfit for your significant other (or one of your friends) for under $10, and wear them together for a whole day. By Ieysha Cheney
