who’s hot
What is your greatest challenge? “The greatest challenge is the lack of respect from males in the industry. I have been told ‘That’s cute, but get a real job,’ and asked ‘Where’s your boyfriend?’ It takes thick skin to be a woman in aviation. I see it as an honor to help pave the way for future women in aviation.”
Elizabeth Resh is from Fayetteville, Arkansas and is majoring in Aviation – Professional Pilot. She is a current junior and is working on her Commercial Pilot Certificate. Elizabeth is the current President of the Women in Aviation chapter on campus and leads a Bible study through the Baptist Collegiate Ministries. She works as a student employee for the Aviation Department and loves to fly airplanes.
What would you say to future women pursuing aviation? “Don’t be discouraged when things go wrong. Don’t sell yourself short. Don’t take criticism for being a woman. The man probably had the same flying issue at some point in his career too; HAVE FUN!!!!!” What do you miss the most about your home? “My family. If I could transport them here, I would. I couldn’t care less about the town. I just want my family.” When did you know you wanted to be a pilot? “I was 12 the first time I knew I wanted to learn to fly. I was 13 when I knew I wanted to do nothing else with the rest of my life.” What is your favorite 90’s show? “Full House. I love the emphasis it places on good, solid family values.”

ust a quick stroll from campus, on 1st street, you'll find two new restaurants. On our visit to the Magnolia Cafe, we focused on their Mediterranean foods. Later that day (yes, we had two lunches), we visited Durant Station where we ate salads, wraps, and bowls, oh my! DS also has a shady outdoor patio (you know we’re about all things shady). Magnolia Cafe Mediterranean Salad-“I’m a fan of the feta.” The tasty Mediterranean salad is a mix of flavors. It consists of chopped lettuce, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, onions, cherry tomatoes, croutons, and a pickle. Lamb and Beef Gyro- “This tortilla is awesome!” Do not be intimidated by the gyro. It may be different, but it’s a delicious kind of different. The dish consists of homemade pita, meat, white onions, and tzatziki- a traditional yogurt sauce.

Durant Station The Bowl- “This is the local Chipotle.” The personalized bowl has all the wrap essentials minus the tortilla. This is the best option for carb cutters and people like me who enjoy eating everything with a spoon.
8
The Wrap- “The rice adds the finishing punch.” The wrap is customizable so be creative. Our wrap had cherry and sun-dried tomatoes, grilled chicken, corn, pico de gallo, spinach, and house-made chipotle sauce. That’s a wrap.

FEEL
Freshman year presents a rollercoaster of emotions. Here are a few hacks to keep you feelin’ like a “fresh”man all year. Hack 1: A banana a day keeps the Zzz’s away. Did you know bananas are a great source of energy? Skip the caffeine and embrace your inner monkey for all your late night study sessions. Hack 2: Let's be honest, the worst part of college is that moments when your stomach decides to publicly eat itself. To avoid this poke your stomach out like you're pregnant and the sounds should subside. Hack 3: Buy ALL the Vick’s Vapor Rub. Vick’s can heal pretty much anything. Use it on itching bug bites. For headache relief, put it on your temples. If you suffer from stress-ne (stress acne) as most do in college, Vick’s can heal those bad boys in no time! Vick’s is ointment gold.

#WOKE By Amy Ethridge
Dell McLain Southeastern Theatre’s first performance this season is called #Woke. The show takes place in an imaginary present tense with main characters facing social situations we commonly see in news today. The show presents mature content with a mix of drama and comedy, and is meant to challenge audiences. Professor Dell McLain wrote #Woke and is the production's director. McLain explains he hopes to inspire the audience to, “Look up, look around, and get #Woke!” "We don’t want to tell the audience what to think. We want to ask them TO think,” says McLain. Through the production, McLain hopes students learn the importance of social and political turmoil as a condition, but also as a precursor to ACTION. Support Southeastern Theatre students as they tackle this challenging material and attend their performances on September 27, 28, or 29 in the Visual and Performing Arts Center (across First Street from the old Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium). Following the show, there will be a short Q&A session for those who wish to interact with the director.
